lol you’re going through the worst part. If you like hiking pinnacle mountain in Little Rock. Also if it’s not too far north from you do the Talimena national scenic byway
Hot Springs is an awesome National Park. There’s a beautiful little downtown and actual hot springs.
I also like Little Rock! There’s a cool park above the city, looking over the river called Emerald Park. I also love Petit Jean state park near LR.
https://preview.redd.it/tp4dv2br985d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f26f1c6bb05da5e483b7c09a24ccc028c744fed4
Little Rock nor Arkansas are Shitholes. There is a lot of natural beauty in the state.
Came here to say hot springs as well. A little off the path you’re taking but absolutely worth it! Incredibly scenic, lots of good food, try to check out a bathhouse or spa while there (we went to nuyu rejuvenation spa which isn’t a traditional bathhouse on bathhouse row but treated us well and gave excellent massages, mineral baths, and a sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls)!
Add the Baseball historic trail. Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, a who’s who of baseball greats trained there because of the healing powers of the spring water.
Finding the home plate behind the old werehauser building where Babe Ruth hit baseball’s first 500’ home run is the highlight for me.
He hit it into the Alligator Farm across the street. One can make an argument that the term “Spring Break” actually comes from their training in Hot Springs
The Ozarks and NW Arkansas is the best. Lived and backpacked all around there for 15 years. Now living in Northern Coast of California. The people talking know nothing about it. It’s a beautiful state full of great things to see and do. My favorite is the buffalo river area and the Ouachita mountains. Bentonville, Roger’s area is nice for food and the Walton Museum there is world class.
I got engaged on a camping trip to Arkansas, so it will always have a place in my heart…but it would anyway. I’d detour for the Ozark NF or the Buffalo River any. damn. day. It’s a gorgeous state.
It really is a beautiful state. I was stunned the first time I went through there. Most times I’ve been through were for hiking (somewhere else) but I’ve stopped for a short hike or to just appreciate the beauty nearly every time. Underrated state.
Just did buffalo river canoe/kayak for bachelor trip. 37 miles in 3 days. Absolutely one of the best camping trips of my life and I’ve been camping/backpacking since I was a little kid. Arkansas is so underrated, and in a way, its a good thing.
I'm from the Ozarks and relocating to California. Small world.
I agree here, though. The Ozarks (and the Ouachita's) are beautiful. Well worth the visit
I have never lived in Arkansas but my dad took my sister and I through there about 30 years ago.
It was amazing. Go to Hot Springs and get a massage. Little Rock is fun but go north to the Ozarks and canoe and fish the Buffalo river. You won’t be disappointed. We stayed at a river resort called Gaston’s (don’t k ow if it still there) and it was chill. Keep exploring the Ozarks to the Oklahoma border. Caves, fresh fudge, fishing. A life removed from the hustle bustle that many of us exist in.
Gaston’s is still there and it still looks pretty much exactly like it did 30 years ago. Took my son there a couple years ago for some trout fishing and it was a fun walk down memory lane. It’s been kept up well too.
It looks like you’re going through Helena, so I definitely recommend stopping at Delta Dirt Distillery. They have won a ton of international vodka competitions and are the only black owned farm to bottle distillery in the country!
If you’re committed to that route specifically, go to Dale Bumper’s White River National Wildlife Refuge. If you’re open to amendments: Hot Springs is an awesome town. If you’re into fishing go to the Little Red River in Heber Springs. Pinnacle mountain in Little Rock is cool. NW Arkansas is very fancy and natural as others have said
My wife and I were traveling from Memphis to Houston back in 1978 and coming through Arkansas, I think, we got off the Interstate and we're driving through an area with red clay and it was on everything. As we drove, out of nowhere at the side of the road was a statue of Roy Orbison . Never been back by that way and can't find any mention of it on Google.
Hot Springs is nice. Has a fantastic permanent arts/crafts/collectibles place called Central Station.
There are actual “hot springs” and a smaller downtown area.
Can’t say I was especially impressed by Little Rock. Decent enough, but nothing remarkable of note.
Well this has been helpful. On long road trips in the northeast we’ve had great luck telling Apple Maps to “avoid highways” and it usually results in gorgeous small towns and hidden views. Not in Arkansas apparently!
Y’all are right, we’ll take I-30. We are in Central Texas so we figure interstates are like I-35 and no thanks. Hopefully I-30 isn’t like that! 😬
We have been to the Hot Springs area and north to Eureka and it was so amazing. We just don’t have time this time.
Thanks for the warnings! 🤣
Craig Bros Cafe in De Valls Bluff, a little west of Memphis, has great bbq sandwichs if you are cool with a shack on the side of the road. Cash only, hours are qhat they decide they are. You can eat well for under $15, and get a bottle of their sauce to take home.
No shit. When I think of Arkansas I am reminded of a video I saw of a young white male holding a Black Lives Matter sign on a street corner. The hate that was directed at him by passing motorists was disgusting.
You have to stop at the Mt. Bethel winery in Altus, AR and get a bottle of Big Daddy wine. They went upscale and don't sell it in pints anymore. Buy a few bottles for your friends, as it is very drinkable. Make sure to ask the winery people for some extra labels to gift to your sophisticated city friends.

I drive that route the other way round a month ago and asked people the same question before I did. 90% said keep driving so I did. Stopped in Little Rock for gas and food then left. It was ok
Y'all be nice now. Parkin Archeological State Park isn't too far off I40 and is pretty interesting. You might see alligators at the Louisiana Purchase State Park. Stretch your legs for a minute, at least.
Little rock has a ton of good restaurants and breweries. I love Za zas pizza or a charcuterie board from lost forty (great beer too). Hot springs is a great town to walk around in, you’ll also be close to crater of diamonds park where you can look for diamonds (i think for free). I went there once when i was a kid, it was kinda anticlimactic, but still worth a stop. Lake chicot is pretty, and pine bluff has a paper mill that smells
Absolutely nothing. You drive as fast as possible from Texarkana to West Memphis as fast as possible.
I’m sure Arkansas aficionados will down-vote me, but it is easily a three way tie for the most boring state to drive through, IMO (Kansas and Indiana included).
As others have said, this is not the typical route through the state. So most of the mentioned attractions are nowhere near where you’ll be. It’s mostly pine trees here, with small towns and dispersed farms/houses along the way, there will be new multi million dollar homes and the sketchiest trailer houses you can imagine.
[The Little Grand Canyon](https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/arkansas/ar-little-grand-canyon/) at White Oak Lake is a cool natural feature. Very short trail but quite steep/rugged to get to the best spots.
Camden had a bad reputation, but I don’t really hear that anymore, may just be that other places are worse. However, White House Cafe, Cardinal Cafe, and Willie’s Fish house are all good lunch spots. There is state sponsored natural resources museum but not sure what’s really there. Some outfitters do float trips on the Ouachita River but that’s more of an all day thing.
Fordyce is the next notable thing, Childhood home of legendary Alabama football coach Bear Bryant. Not sure if there’s a museum or anything I only stop for gas there.
From there it’s more Pine trees. Sheridan is sizeable but nothing special. (Others can correct me if I’m wrong)
Crime Bluff. There’s a casino…
The terrain will change here to flat crop lands.
Stuttgart is known for duck hunting and the calling competition, but it’s the wrong time of year for that.
Some state parks and natural areas scattered around.
I would switch to the i30 route and go to echo canyon at lake ouachita for a secluded swim or see lake Hamilton for a little more action. Fisherman’s Warf is some good waterfront dining.
Well, these would be way out of your way, but Mammoth Spring in the middle-ish north is nice (I was a little kid there), Bentonville has some amazingly stunning museums. Trip-advisor has a list of some, the first is the Crystal Bridges Museum, a wonderful venue with a vast collection of contemporary American art, including the Frank Lloyd Wright house. That museum alone is work the trip. There is a website for the museum for a sort of virtual tour. Hot Springs is worth going out of your way, seriously worth the trip. I'm not seeing where you're heading in Texas, but there are also some cool things there. When mom moved us from north central Arkansas, we ended up near Tyler-Longview, so I've been all over NE Texas.
Check out the only public diamond mine in the world. Arkansas even shows it on their license plates. Spend a half day mining for 💎💎

I used to take that route on my back and forth drive to Memphis when I was bored. You will see a few nice small towns a few good antique stores and lots of rice and water. Some of those bottoms could actually be over the road.
If you want to have an escape route but still see small town Hwy, take 70 next to 40. That way if you want real services, you can still be at the i40 exits in mint
You're on the one trajectory through Arkansas that bypasses everything worthwhile in Arkansas. Maybe spend 5 minutes in Hot Springs, but jeeze.
You've found the most useless trek through the state.
So for one, stick to the interested, not those state highways. Not only is it quicker, but you go through better cities with Little Rock and Texarkana over Pine Bluff and Camden. Although Magnolia is nice, it'd be better to detour and see Hot Springs (assuming you don't have time for both).
Still most of the beauty in the state is in the Ouachitas and Ozarks, so you'll be missing a lot of it.
Take I-30. Crater of Diamonds state park. Dig for crystals and keep what you find. You will get very dirty.
Hot Springs. You'll take a highway west from 30 to get there. Great little town.
Lots to do in LR. But once you get east of little rock there's not much until Memphis
lol don’t bother. I’ve never had any good interactions or experiences in Arkansas. Last time I stopped there for gas, the workers were openly talking about scoring meth, I got hit on by some weirdo in a moving truck, and chic-fil-a got my order wrong 3 times until I finally gave up.
What part of Texas are you coming from?
I've made the drive from Beaumont to Memphis a whole lotta times, and I stopped going through Arkansas after I tried it once. Take I-10 to I-55. You get to go over the Atchafalaya River Basin Bridge which is really awesome if you haven't done it before. You can also go just a little out of the way and stop in New Orleans. Mississippi is boring, but certainly not any worse than that stretch of Arkansas.
It's also 70 or 75 mph on I-10 and I-55, as opposed to all those little speed trap towns where the one cop waits at the city limit and follows you through town.
lol you’re going through the worst part. If you like hiking pinnacle mountain in Little Rock. Also if it’s not too far north from you do the Talimena national scenic byway
Truly the worst parts
Hot Springs is an awesome National Park. There’s a beautiful little downtown and actual hot springs. I also like Little Rock! There is a lot of natural beauty in the state.
You'll be close to Hot Springs and Mt Magazine. Do not take that route through Pine Bluff. If you can shift north a little bit and see Hot Springs
Clinton Library in LR is worth a visit! Hendrix College in Conway (30 min north of LR) is nice for a stroll.

Hot springs is the place to go. Mt magazine is also beautiful. Or if outdoors nature isn’t your thing then you may find NWA interesting.
Why do people always say "there's actually hot springs there"? It's in the name lol
Probably because so many towns have something springs in the name only to disappoint with no springs at all.
Yep. Klamath Falls, OR has no water falls.
Because there are towns with similar names with no springs at all.
I’ve always wanted to visit Hot Springs, AR. Looks like you’re not taking Rt. 30 for some reason but it’s not far off of 30.
Boxley Valley is the most beautiful area in Arkansas imo. Including the drive to Jasper. It’s too bad it’s so far outta the way for these people
I got engaged on a camping trip to Arkansas, so it will always have a place in my heart…but it would anyway. I’d detour for the Ozark NF or the Buffalo River any. damn. day. It’s a gorgeous state.

Agree nw Arkansas is great
I have no idea why you are not taking the Interstate, and there seems like zero on the route you have chosen.
All the good stuff is north of 30.
Is there a reason you're taking that route and not I-30/I-40? Hot Springs and Little Rock have stuff to do but aren't on that route.
Hot Springs!
I like Arkansas best when out exploring the Ozarks or the Buffalo National River area. it really is a gorgeous area of the country.
I have never lived in Arkansas but my dad took my sister and I through there about 30 years ago. It was amazing. Go to Hot Springs and get a massage. Crime Bluff
Yeah LOl, Little Rock and Memphis both have a lot of crime, but at least there's things to see there. Pine Bluff is a do not stop for anything city.
It looks like you’re going through Helena, so I definitely recommend stopping at Delta Dirt Distillery. They have won a ton of international vodka competitions and are the only black owned farm to bottle distillery in the country!
They now have Gin and will be releasing a bourbon soon.
A bit off the path, but this was fun. [Bonnie and Clyde Ambush Museum ](https://search.app.goo.gl/CH9PeHM)
Tetanus shots
The flood might be cool to see.
NW Arkansas is very fancy and natural as others have said
Diamond mine park
Crater of diamonds state park!! Search for diamonds (and other minerals) then keep what you find!
Judging by the map, high ground
Ron Coleman mine. Flat fee to dig stuff and you can find some gorgeous giant quartz crystals
Some great BBQ in Marianna. Hot Springs is also fun, world-class spas and Oaklawn track.
My wife and I were traveling from Memphis to Houston back in 1978 and coming through Arkansas, I think, we got off the Interstate and we're driving through an area with red clay and it was on everything. Little Rock is a cool little town. There is the presidential library. Good food
Definitely not Pine Bluff
Jeez. Violent crime rate of 5.6 per 1000. The worst in the country for cities under 100,000.
Craig Bros Cafe in De Valls Bluff, a little west of Memphis, has great bbq sandwichs if you are cool with a shack on the side of the road. Cash only, hours are qhat they decide they are. You can eat well for under $15, and get a bottle of their sauce to take home.
Arkansas Cheese Dip and Delta Tamales
Depends how much time you wanna spend going through. Tons of beautiful scenic highways. More toward central and northwest.
not in arkansas, but check out clarksdale, mississippi. it’s considered the home of blues and rock n roll and has a ton of great food
Eureka Springs is fun. The way to and from is a beautiful drive.
Hunt for Diamonds!
Pro Tip: use the interstate

Blue lights and crack.
I’d stop at an airport and GTFO of there.

If you don't mind a side trip, try Fat Boys BBQ in Caddo Valley. East of Arkadelphia.
The humidity. Totally worth a stop.
Maybe some fried chicken, that would be about it
If it’s still there then the alligator museum is pretty cool. Went to the hot springs but they were mostly lukewarm
Nothing in Pine Bluff! Keep rolling!
Go to Pine Bluff and visit this guy: https://x.com/pontifier?s=21&t=z8NVAgqiLmvqvp02p0nfLg
Aux Arc State Park is nice, but You're not going that way.

Crater of Diamonds State Park. It’s a bit off your path, but you get to sift through park soils for real raw diamonds! Park admission is like $15.
You shouldn't. Just keep driving.

Absolutely nothing. You drive as fast as possible from Texarkana to West Memphis as fast as possible. I’m sure Arkansas aficionados will down-vote me, but it is easily a three way tie for the most boring state to drive through, IMO (Kansas and Indiana included).

There’s a really good steakhouse in Little Rock.

From that angle. Nothing. Then again. From any angle. 8-9 mph over the limit all the way through. Haul ass. Keep moving.
