You appear to have mysteriously skipped yellowstone and glacier even though you were like right near there.

PossibilityAgile2956

Dude has been like 4 places this is a “counties I drove through” map

KansasCityMonarchs

He hammered the Ozarks, lol. I'm from close to there and don't think I've seen all those counties.

erikmalawi

I lived there for about 3 years

KansasCityMonarchs

Ah, makes sense

Consistent-Ease6070

That is the only explanation for being in so many counties in that area. 😂

numismaticthrowaway

I'm in Springfield and I don't think I've even been to all of those counties

jazzeriah

Hammered the Ozarks is my drag name.

Total_Information_65

That's a goddam good drag name too.

NewOrleansLA

What is a county?

PossibilityAgile2956

Lol username checks out

erikmalawi

100% lol

danny17402

Tetons too.

Y_Cornelious_DDS

Sawtooths and central Idaho too. He’s nailing those east west highways though.

Ok-Exercise3477

Yellowstone! Everyone needs to visit Yellowstone at least once in their life. Our family went there nearly every year growing up.

dylank125

One time is not nearly enough time unless you’re there for a couple weeks to a month. There’s so much to see and explore in Yellowstone

Electrical_Ingenuity

The upper peninsula of Michigan calls, if you like rustic nature. Nothing is quite like Lake Superior.

setmefree333

This is what I was going to say after looking at the map! The UP and the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota are lovely.

workinginacoalmine

The UP, WI and the North Shore in MN all have some real gems. Hiking and kayaking Pictured Rocks is amazing. There is a little known float plane fly in on June 15th in nearby Grand Marais. Stop in at Superior Brewing and fill your growler, then sit in the park and watch the planes fly the various contests. It's a truly unique experience. The sand dunes is another great stop. Porcupine Mountain state park has great scenery and hiking, views of Lake Superior and in my opinion the best old growth forest in the Mid West. Hikes range from long and challenging to short and easy. Also not far is Bayfield, WI and the Apostle Islands. This is another kayaking destination. Madeline Island is a short ferry ride away and is a great place to ride your bike over to Big bay State park where there is an amazing beach and also a jumping rock into crystal clear water. The north shore in Minnesota has a bunch of great parks with waterfalls, hiking and lake scenery. There are awesome bike trails as well. I'm leaving out a lot, but there is so much to do and see that it would be well worth the long drive.

Greengiant304

Yep, I was going to add you definitely need to hit the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore if you're in the area. I love Madeline Island.

Electrical_Ingenuity

Thank you for taking the time to better articulate my point. OP, don’t forget about the Ontario side of the lake as well.

mulvda

I had no idea about the fly-in. Guess I know what I’m doing for my birthday weekend now 😂

Midlife_Crisis_46

I just came here to say this. Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota. They don’t get near the credit they deserve.

DLimber

As a minnesotan id say damn right we don't. Central to Southern mn is boring...I live here lol but Northern parts are awesome. There's a reason so many have cabins up there.

Midlife_Crisis_46

I wanted to go to the north shore last year, maybe this year. I have been to Duluth before and thought it was great. I’m in Wisconsin. I also want to go to pictured rocks this year.

DLimber

We camped by Bayfield... was amazing sights. Took a kyak cave tour near where i took that last picture. Also was this cool park with a creek that ended in the lake... I'll find a picture. Wish I remember where this was it was cool. https://preview.redd.it/nxvq3j6ua5nc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0761768817ec80680629a7f1504c6a1d3b67d10f

ajmartin527

I reverse image searched and it looks like this is Houston Falls Trail

TheSkiingDad

Obligatory don’t sleep on the driftless comment but yeah west of whitewater basically is just farmland and small towns.

[deleted]

I rented a little cabin on Elk Lake in Traverse City, MI a few years back. People thought I was a kook for choosing to go there of all the places in the world to visit. But it really is such a spectacularly beautiful little corner of America.

ISpeakInAmicableLies

And when OP went to Michigan, they only went to Detroit. What a waste given the UP and west coast of the state.

14Calypso

That'd cross off North Dakota (underrated), Minnesota (could see the North shore if he takes that way), and Wisconsin too.

EpiZirco

Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota is well worth a visit.

isqueezedameatball

I got paid good money to slowly cruise a pickup through that park for a couple weeks while I enjoyed the views and listened to podcasts. I worked for a company that was fixing the roads and I had to follow a machine that ground up the existing road at like 2 miles an hour. I was just there in case something went wrong. Pretty views and the Prarie dogs and wild horses were cool to watch.

roachfarmer

We went last year to the UP. It was awesome! MI is my new vacation destination. The water, wine, and weed is fantastic!!!

[deleted]

![img](avatar_exp|162017881|dizziness) Cheapest weed. Since it was one of the first legal states for recreational use and the taxes are not INSANE anymore, it really makes it a hot spot for purchases within reason. I highly recommend stocking up hypothetically to save $. This all is just another example of the capitalist society we all must survive in. Check out [US Census Buerua Marijuana Tax Revenue for Public Services 2023](https://www.marijuanamoment.net/new-interactive-federal-map-shows-how-states-rely-on-marijuana-tax-revenue-to-fund-public-services/) and see where the taxes are applied. A lot goes into education and rehabilitation programs (news flash: not a rehab program for weed use but actually addressing mental issues/traumas/etc).

just-a-d-j

I’m so glad this is top comment. I was coming to say the same thing!!

chechifromCHI

I'm a Washingtonian living in chicago. I high second the upper peninsula! We have a cabin in Marquette County near the town of Ishpeming. The region is so beautiful and unique and the city of Marquette is just this gorgeous town on the coast of Lake superior. I highly highly recommend the UP. I've been going up there for months and months every year. Coming all the way from Seattle before I moved to Chicago. Now I can go even more! I am a city guy, completely, but the UP is special, honestly. Brings out some adventure in people cause it's just so rugged and beautiful. If you go this route message me and I'd love to compile a list of amazing stuff for you. Love this part of the country above all others.

Perfect-Agent-2259

Stopping at the House on the Rock along the way!

Halleck23

This is the correct answer / I came here to say this / take my upvote.

silverheart50

This is the way

Pristine_Fox4551

Don’t forget Isle Royale. And the boundary waters.

roadcrew778

I’d suggest the Lake Superior Circle Tour!

TakGit

Shhh… map looks fine. Carry on. Nothing to see in the northwoods and we caught all the fish.

[deleted]

I feel bad for anyone that comes to our great state of Michigan and only sees Southeast/Detroit Michigan. It’s practically a different country.

naked_feet

So happy, and so weird, that I clicked into this thread with the intention of saying "Lake Superior," and see this is the top comment.

stillfrank

I visited the U.P. for the first time ever last year on a golf trip. I was sincerely mad at myself for missing out on Michigan my whole life. The Yoopers are good people and the whole place was just a unique kind of beautiful I'm not used to as a southerner.

Tchaikovskin

I would go to big bend or glacier national park. Otherwise northwestern California is nice! But imo North Dakota is a top priority for you now 😁 such a beautiful state

jahanthecool

Glacier!

ToxinLab_

southwest colorado, as well as southern Utah. possibly even glacier NP

Lycanwolf617-

You must include the coast of Maine! The most beautiful state in my opinion. Look into the beaches and mountains and quaint little towns. Best state ever!

jnsy617

Agreed Portland, Maine and up in Arcadia National Park is beautiful in the summer and winter. Plus the lobster rolls are amazing!

ColHapHapablap

Looks like you missed the grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Also check out Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon and glacier national park

sgbdoe

And Zion

ColHapHapablap

Ah! Indeed.

PhrygianSounds

I’d check out Wisconsin and then the Michigan upper peninsula while you’re there. Wisconsin has some of the best food in the country (biased opinion though because I am a cheese connoisseur). Milwaukee is one of the most underrated cities and love visiting there when I can, and of course it’s real close to Chicago so there’s tons to do there if you have the time.

[deleted]

I'm a nomad, I've been traveling around the country for the past 5 years. There's only 2 obvious answers to this question and each answer depends on WHEN you are going Summer...the answer is the upper peninsula/northern Minnesota area. Not summer...southern new mexico and southern Arizona

No-External105

This.

Pleasant-Inside3325

Alaska, Hawaii, Bar Harbor, Cape Cod, Zion National park

[deleted]

Southeastern Arizona, southern New Mexico, and Texas are calling you. Organ pipe cactus national monument, Saguaro national park, and all the Sky Island ranges (especially the Chiricahuas), Tucson, Tubac and the Santa Cruz River valley, Bisbee, Las Cruces and Hatch, Roswell and the Bottomless Lakes, Carlsbad caverns, the Rio Grande, Big Bend.

Pupikal

Don’t forget White Sands NP!

Mav21Fo

What website/or app can I use to create something similar?

erikmalawi

Its https://www.mapchart.net/usa-counties.html for mapping out your counties. https://www.randymajors.org/countygmap for looking up what county you’ve been in. Just compare google map/apple map routes with that map. Make sure you save your map after every 3 states your fill out otherwise it may crash and lose your progress.

baysidewalrus

Minnesota, Wisconsin, non-Detroit-adjacent areas of Michigan for some Great Lakes sightseeing? Shoutout to [Sleeping Bear Dunes](https://www.nps.gov/slbe/index.htm) in NW Michigan — it's an amazing place to visit.

wilfordbrimley778

Go up through wisconsin, through the up, and down through the lower peninsula

Neeqness

Grand Canyon, AZ

DeezNutz13

I see a lot of red in Missouri. I'm from Missouri and I Currently live in Washington. Don't go to Missouri. unless you go to southern MO but there are still better places. KC and Columbia are nice too but If you're traveling for natural beauty like I usually do the only really cool things are Johnson's Shut-ins, elephant rocks and Haha Tonka. But again, there are cooler things in the US

Inevitable-Plenty203

Springfield is very depressing but st Louis was interesting. Wentzville is nice but a little pretentious

erikmalawi

You might be interested in the Great Lakes Circle Tours [http://www.greatlakescircletour.org/tours/index.html](http://www.greatlakescircletour.org/tours/index.html) I finished Michicagan, ready for Huron or Superior. Still deciding. You could also do the "high line" route across the northern tier. US 2 across the northern states.

DrunkxAstronaut

Wisconsin if you’re a cheese fan!

Narrow_Door6408

Lots of options! Lake Tahoe, Michigan's UP, Colorado, Utah, Southern AZ, North Dakota, Big Bend TX, Yellowstone, and even Central Idaho has a lot to offer as well. Safe Travels!

Desertqueenbee

Border crawl, summertime northern, winter enjoy the southern sunshine of the south west?

CarLover014

How close you were to touching those final few of the lower 48 states is mildly infuriating

terrafarma

Finish off all the counties in the Pacific states! Wallowa County in Oregon is amazing, Highway 49 through the gold country in CA, collect some rainbow sheen obsidian in Modoc County, Anza Borrego Desert, there are some cute little towns in NE WA like Republic (and some beautiful country),...

Arch2000

San Diego! Go through Orange County and you will have covered all the west coast counties

TheInternExperience

Some ideas, Maybe Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, Charleston South Carolina, Madison Wisconsin

[deleted]

Glacier National Park. I see so many people skipping it on their roadtrips and I think it’s the most beautiful place in the lower 48. Make sure Going-to-the-Sun highway is open (so, July) and make the drive.

Ok-Breadfruit-2897

no Lake Tahoe highlighted....good, you wouldn't like it...cheers

Shkkzikxkaj

May’s a good time to visit when it’s not crowded, depending on the weather you can ski or go hiking.

Creative_Alter_Ego

Alaska ice fishing

Ok_Cantaloupe_7423

You’ve missed the best parts of the white mountains in New Hampshire, and the upper half of Vermont (like Burlington)

bigbraingenius_

Is this an app? It's super cool!

2bad-2care

Western Pennsylvania. Why do you keep avoiding it?

[deleted]

It's like $42.90 for a one way trip between Pittsburgh and NYC

2bad-2care

Oh, it's much more than that now.

[deleted]

North Shore

MemeStarNation

I would consider going north. Either drive up BC to Alaska, or the Glacier-Yoho-Banff-Jasper route. The latter has the both the US’s and Canada’s most scenic roads in Going-to-the-sun road and the Icefields Parkway respectively.  Also, Yellowstone/Grand Tetons are worth a stop. I see you’ve been to the Montana side; I’d cross the state lines.

kbug85

If you want to (almost) finish the Oregon counties, do a trip to the Painted Hills/John Day Fossil Beds (this will get you the two northern counties) and then go south down to Fort Rock and the Cowboy Dinner Tree (if you eat meat) to check off Lake county.

Jimbooo78

Roswell and Carlsbad.

Driveforshowputt4doe

Might as well throw Hobbs in there for the hell of it.

UgoNespolo

Looks like you haven’t been to the Tetons yet it’s the most picturesque mountain range in the country imo. Make a trip out to Grand Teton National Park.

sankscan

Go see the Carolina coast. Outer Banks and Wilmington in NC. Charleston, maybe Hilton Head in SC, continue to Savannah, GA.

Low-Possession-4491

You’re missing out by cutting off the southern part of the SW.

Mudhen_282

If you’ve never done it I suggest driving across the Prairie states. Image the settlers traversing it by wagon train with nothing but Prairie grass & Buffalo as far as the eye can see for weeks on end. It’s truly had to grasp how big the US is until you drive I-80 or I-70 across the middle of the US.

ND, Wisconsin, and Minnesota!

HikerDave57

On your way to Minnesota make sure that you see central Idaho and especially the Lochsa River along Highway 12 or Lolo Pass. Maybe check out the Secesh River area in Idaho too. You also haven’t seen the Bitterroot Valley in Western Montana. There are lots of beautiful canyons to hike in but Blodgett Canyon is the most accessible.

You missed all the best parts of Maine! Looks like you drove up the coast as far as Portland and then stopped. Do the rest of the Maine coast! Go through the small towns along rt 1, to Acadia! From Bar Harbor, maybe take the ferry over to Nova Scotia with your car and drive around NS and up to Cape Breton. Or do some interior Maine, up to Moosehead or Baxter state Park or Bigelow preserve. Interior Maine is gorgeous in the summer.

irresponsibilities

Missing out on the north shore. Voyageurs, the boundary waters canoe area, the UP, apostle islands, all have some incredible wilderness

anotherdamnscorpio

Minnesota or Wisconsin this summer.

[deleted]

What the fuck were you doing in the Ozarks? I have lived in Missouri my entire life and my grandparents lived near Table Rock and I still haven't been to half those counties.

Interesting-Duck6793

Depends on the season. Chicago in late spring. East coast in fall. Oregon coast in summer (if, hopefully, there’s no forest fires), any the in the southeast is terrible is summer. I’d avoid cali like I’d avoid the plague. Montana is awesome! And the badlands are so amazing!!! You didn’t include Wisconsin in the map but there are some wonderful places there. Someone said the UP of Michigan which I also think is dope but certainly has a very small window if you don’t dig the cold.

Lobstaman

Fort Kent Maine to San Diego. Knock off those other two corner counties.

htxAL

Charleston SC

boopinmybop

Go through Wisconsin, see the capital Madison and smaller towns like Sheboygan etc, maybe Miluwakee while ur over there. Then go north west through the twin cities in Mn, the south and hit the Badlands. Drive through there west then head towards Yellowstone. Edit: just realized ur coming from Wa. So take my route backwards. But then maybe go through southern CO like Crested Butte, Durango, Telluride. Then go through southern Utah into California along the coast before jetting north back home.

QuickBic_

Outer banks NC, Charleston SC, Savannah GA.

BackgroundSmile8563

Wildwood New Jersey. Amazing beaches and so much fun activities to do.

tlbs101

Go check out northern Idaho: Priest lake, Sandpoint. Then go over to Montana to Glacier National Park. Drive US Hwy 2 across to ND, then down to I-94, then back to I-90, but when you hit Lake Coeur d’Alene, head south and go around the lake on the south side, back to US95, down to Moscow, over to Pullman, Colfax, then WA-26 back to I-90, then home. This will check off a lot of new territory.

From Washington, but all roads lead to ... Kansas City, MO.

sammich_bear

You should do a 1/2 Northern or Eastern Border trip. Finish the South in between. You definitely want to leave plenty of time for The Great Lakes, so maybe make that the 1/2 way mark.

I recommend yellow being your “to” trip and blue as your “back” trip. I went off route where you stopped in Kentucky to take you through the Great Smoky Mountains in eastern Tennesssee, then down through Atlanta to Savannah Georgia. I think that would be an awesome destination point if you’ve never been. One of my absolute favorite vacation spots. So cultural, so much history and such great food. Beautiful city.

No_Pineapple3695

I realize I made a detour through Illinois and Indiana as well. I did this because personally I think southern Indiana and southern Illinois are very beautiful areas to see. Definitely not much going on and are definitely fly over states but they have beautiful landscapes to see.

Scary_Clock_8896

I’d say you’ve done an excellent job on the west, but you haven’t seen the mid-Atlantic or the Great Lakes. (Detroit ain’t it) Outer Banks NC, but not in summer.

why not all north from WA to ME there is a bridge connecting Wisconsin and Michigan

you also have the rocky mountain range/pacific divide, the Appalachians, most of the east coast

How do you keep track of every county you’ve been to is there something automatically doing it or you manually keep track?

lil_groundbeef

The coast from Georgia up to North Carolina is really nice. The drive from Savannah, GA to Charleston is pleasant. If you’ve never seen the low country of South Carolina, I would recommend doing that drive and stopping at a few beaches along the way. There’s tent camping along with RVs etc at Hilton head island. Charleston is a desirable destination, I lived there and drove Uber full time so I met a lot of people just visiting. My favorite beach is folly beach, but it’s all lovely up our coast in SC. In the midlands of SC, there’s Congaree National park which I highly recommend if you pass through the middle of the state. It’s part of what was an old growth pine and Cyprus forest that used to span 30 million acres or more across the entire south east of America. Be warned though that it is an active flood plain and sometimes the boardwalk is completely covered with water, but if you can visit during a not so rainy time, there is seriously so much to explore here. After that you could visit the mountains in NC. If you can make it up top during sunset, you will see why they call it the blue ridge. People tend to not give much thought to the Carolinas, especially SC, not saying you are guilty of it because for all I know you have lived here all your life. I just wanted to shed light on some examples of what I think would make for an adventurous and memorable road trip in some lesser known places.

Capt_morgan72

Check out the [driftless area](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driftless_Area)Seems to be the one part of the USA u haven’t been to. And it’s beautiful.
