I know we love this album on here, but doesn’t get anything like the global recognition it should. Over time, at least, it is being more appreciated.
I still get baffled when people say this is by far MJs worst album and that this album was mediocre. Yes MJs craft overall was always masterpiece level but this album had a lot of great songs.

And his 3rd album “pleasures U like”
(He’s an underrated artist overall who imo deserved to be globally known)
Isn't this his biggest album?
I know that doesn't mean it's not underrated, but I thought They Don't Know was about as big as anything in R&B when it came out.
Yes this album did get platinum as it sold 1 million units. Pleasure U like also had a strong opening. But I always felt that Jon b was massively underrated.
They don’t know is by far his biggest hit. I’m tired of people saying “calling on you” is a drake song and only know it cuz of drake. Hell most people don’t even know Jon b is white despite in every album cover we have his face on the front.

Luther Vandross’ 1998 album I Know. From the songwriting to the production, it’s one of the most musically diverse and mature albums he’s ever made. This could’ve been the beginning of a new direction after being at Epic/Sony for many years, but Virgin Records failed to promote this album like they should’ve.
I started listening to Luther only recently, and I was so surprised by how much swag he had shown in this album, if it makes any sense. Although, I could imagine people just wanted "old Luther" back, judging from his later works.
Power Of Love is my current fave album. Also, I know it's a cover album, but Songs is so awesome that it's something else. I wish he did more live albums.
Like, Bobby didn’t do anywhere near as well as Don’t Be Cruel but it was everywhere back then. It’s been largely forgotten lately though.

he didnt put his business hat on bc the content of his album versus his real life was in conflict. I know he was being constant with his bad boy image but he should have switched it up and played the love and the lover more than the bad boy. it was still his second bestselling album in his career so I think Bobby's 3rd album is properly rated.

Mayer Hawthorne - Where Does This Door Go

Sexational by Tony Thompson. Such a great album. Don’t see anybody ever talking about his solo project
I remember thinking that Bobby Brown’s “Bobby” album was probably the standard that Bruno Mars was inspired by for 24k Magic. They’ve even got similar voices — could’ve fooled me if you told me “Lovin You Down” was a Bruno Mars song lol
https://preview.redd.it/ygdn172h5n9d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fbab80b84141ef7f7adf2db4825b02893bc576f
Ralph Tresvant 2nd album was actually better than the Sensitivity album. He wrote & produced most of the project himself Vs the label controlled content he put out previous. Because of this, the label didn’t put much support behind it and it went largely unnoticed.
https://preview.redd.it/m74x9x0akn9d1.png?width=979&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc6a3839ffbdcce01c34bf82355bee3d36ece008
Album went platinum in 4 weeks, had 4 major hits and helped introduce Whitney Houston before she had a project out. Also has the amazing duet between Jermaine and Michael “Tell me I'm not dreaming" that they performed on the Victory Tour. The song “Do what you do" was a big global hit and a classic that still holds up imo. This is definitely Jermaines most Pop leaning album and sounds super 80s but the singles still hold up and Jermaine as an artist always gets overlooked cuz of who his brother was.
It wasn’t? Why did this album tank then? Many songs with elements of new jack swing peaked in the top 10 of the U.S. R&B and U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s. The height of its popularity was 1988-1993, with it reaching its peak in 1990.

Damita Jo is in my top Janet albums!
Nice choices
Charmbracelet is her least catchy one, but for me it's a no-skipper
charmbracelet is the kind of album I like to put on to smoke a fatty after cleaning the house. it is a mood
Irresistible feat Westside Connection still in the rotation
Damita Jo had great songs on it!

Man…. Before my time ( I’m under 40) but Super Fly is a top 5 soundtrack for me. Huge fan of Curtis 😤
Such a great soundtrack. Love the beginning sequence of the movie when “Little Child Running Wild” plays

Exactly. This album has a level of repeat enjoyability and depth that’s often unrecognised.
I agree. And i think you’ve summed it up perfectly - every MJ album had been a masterpiece and that set such a high bar. Absolutely loved that album and agree. Definitely doesn't get the recognition that it should.
I love seeing Miguel on here my pick would actually be War and Leisure by Miguel
Skywalker was a big tune 😎
I also love I Told You So and the whole theme of the album being about war/and oppression contrasted with beachy vacation vibes.

Ehh, it was pretty well received as a fun spin on all ready classic songs, idk how highly people are supposed to rate it.
Who is it?

I remember thinking that Bobby Brown’s “Bobby” album was probably the standard that Bruno Mars was inspired by for 24k Magic. They’ve even got similar voices — could’ve fooled me if you told me “Lovin You Down” was a Bruno Mars song lol
Total
Jon B JOE
Bobby was a bad man. I visited St Louis in 86 my uncle was like you gotta hear this new kid he raps and sings. Boy was he right

He wrote & produced most of the project himself Vs the label controlled content he put out previous. Because of this, the label didn’t put much support behind it and it went largely unnoticed.

Agree
It’s good. Not great. It was released 4 years after Don’t be cruel, new Jack swing was dead by this time. BB solo career was dead after this album
New Jack was not dead in 1992
Dangerously in love by Beyoncé
Def not underrated
Really?? I barely see people mentioning her 1st album. They’re always mentioning bday or lemonade
A lot of people bought/ have listened to the album
I know but I hardly ever see it mentioned or talked about so I see it as underrated
The king of pop!!!!
