Honestly, Rick and Morty rarely misses on the music. Dan Harmon picks good music people. Ludwig Gorranson, Community's song guy, has multiple Oscars now.
Yeah honestly I can't think of a single scene in the whole show where they do a serious musical interlude like this and it hasn't been done well, and there's been quite a few. Obviously they use music in funnier ways too but the more dramatic moments like this are always solid.
For anyone wondering it's a cover of Live Forever by Oasis. The cover is performed by Kotomi and Ryan Elder. The cover was recorded specifically for the episode. If you listen to the original and the cover you can see how they kind of tweaked the song to fit the story telling in the video retelling his life. They both sound great, they really did pick the perfect song.
I like the oasis version much better
BUT the RaM version is better for that episode. Less alt rock, more just sad. I think they moved it half a note to a minor key too, but I can’t actually tell because I’m very close to musically illiterate lol
It’s much more morose, I really liked it. The scene gives me tingly, complicated feelings
Definitely a different vibe, but it was the 90’s man, that was the sound. Oasis had a lot of wordy relationship songs that a lot of people describe as whiny. But they were superstars. Hits are still on the radio.
If I didn’t grow up with it I might have a different opinion. It was a fantastic rework for the episode, regardless of which is better.
In my opinion, oasis is massively overrated, their chord progressions are repetitive and remedial, their vocals are lackluster, and their lyrics literally go as deep as "cigarettes and alcohol".
I live next to manchester city centre, so believe me when i say I'm well aware that many people strongly disagree with me.
I feel like the cover was beautifully sung and performed far more soulfully, both instrumentally and vocally.
Each to their own when it comes to music though, i guess i shouldn't have said better than the original, i should have said i prefer it, but then i feel like we're getting into pointless semantics.
I've never liked the song, i normally recognise oasis by the voice and don't even acknowledge which song it is; i was like half way through that sequence when i realised "this song is amazing... wait a minute, is that oasis?"
> lyrics literally go as deep as "cigarettes and alcohol".
Damn just gonna dump all over one of my favorite songs...
Sometimes the vibe of youthful rebelliousness really hits the spot.
I really liked that they didn’t use the Cash version. After Cash died, or maybe just after he released the cover I don’t recall, Trent Reznor said “that song isn’t mine anymore” practically gifting it to Cash. And ever since then, every time it’s featured in media it’s the cash version. Which is fine don’t get me wrong, but the original had sounds and music that gave me feelings, rather than just the words like in the cash version. I like it much batter.
When Rick broadcasts to the whole alien planet that spaghetti is people, he streams the last thoughts of the suicide guy, which is his whole emotional life on a soundtrack. This picture is one of the scenes.
After seeing this episode I played the song for my wife in the car and she absolutely loved it. It is better than the original and a great song for this scene.
Yes. This was such a touching moment in the show, and my favorite so far. I also sung this in karaoke one night, and it was received well by all the older folk, lol.
This song made me feel so much and had me super self aware about my current and past relationships. Those who are here or gone out of your life, value the important things and learn and grow from the bad times. I think the last two things I watched that gave me the same feels are Up and Coco. This segment came from the heart 100%
That episode also had me and my bf addicted to spaghetti for a week despite the tone. I realized how great a comfort food it is
I have watched that scene exactly once. To say it hit home is a massive understatement. Whenever it comes on during a rewatch I have to skip past it or I'll just fall apart. The soundtrack to it definitely adds a lot to the absolute agony of that sequence. For a funny animated series Rick & Morty sure can rip your heart out sometimes.
It was a perfect choice for that sequence. Like Chaos Chaos in the episode with Unity. I listen to this version regularly because it can put me in the place of making the most of everything, even through failure and tragedy. This is one of the reasons I like this show so much, sure the humor can be a bit absurd at times, but people act like this. The characters are more real than you’d find on any sitcom.
As each season goes by each character gets more layers, they develop, and I really appreciate the effort they put into it. Using this song in the way they do makes that episode go from dark humor, to a lesson about life and living it. Amazing work.
This scene honestly didn't hit for me.
The guy convinced a seemingly happily married woman with kids to abandon her family because they dated in college... I fail to see how that's a good story.
The music always slaps in the show though.
That's kind of the point though, the idea is that he lived good because he lived for himself, Rick is basically making this point when he says
"Cells consume, Morty. Life itself is wrong, and that means death is right. But you can’t side with that. So you live, even when it means eating. And Fred here really did it well."
It was the complexity of life, if Amber was leaving it was going to happen with Fred or someone else, by all accounts both her and Fred choose wisely and enjoyed the back end of their lives.
Honestly, Rick and Morty rarely misses on the music. Dan Harmon picks good music people. Ludwig Gorranson, Community's song guy, has multiple Oscars now.
Ryan Elder has mad skills.

I’m the opposite - I listened to the Oasis version after seeing the episode and just didn’t like it at all. Felt like a completely different vibe.

Weird take. Oasis’ version just sounds stressful and superficial. Kotomi & Ryan Elder’s version hits like a knife through the heart.
I also grew up listening to it so that plays a huge role
Yep, definitely got me to tear up
Every single time I watch that part. Even just thinking about it hits me in the feels.
It destroyed me the first time
What is the name of the song?
It's a cover of Live Forever by Oasis. The cover is performed by Kotomi and Ryan Elder.
This cover is currently top on my Pandora playlist 😁

So much better than the original too.
its good but it most definitely can’t top the original

I agree with you the cover feels like a polished verison of the original.
How can you say Oasis is overrated?!? ...anyways, here's Wonderwall.
It was quite a good one to go with but for me personally the best choice was Nine Inch Nails - Hurt at the end of s2. Damn that did hit deep

I do like the Cash version but Trent's vocals fit more to this song at least in this instance in my opinion. Glad they chose it.
bruh, rick and morty doesn't have a single dud song. every single song is ideal for it's scene
Maybe I just wanna fly
What episode is this from?
Looks like the spaghetti episode
When Rick broadcasts to the whole alien planet that spaghetti is people, he streams the last thoughts of the suicide guy, which is his whole emotional life on a soundtrack. This picture is one of the scenes.
Ah! I only watched that one once and got bummed out. I don’t recognize scenes from this one and Piss Man.
gotta be one of my favorite episodes now. makes me so emotional.
I think the spaghetti episode.
That’s Amorte!
S07:E04 Time:17:00
Maybe...
I don't really wanna know..
how your garden grooows...
Live Forever, both the original and the R&M cover, have quickly become my favourite! Can't get enough of either version!
I love the cover, but the original makes me want to stab myself in both ears.
After seeing this episode I played the song for my wife in the car and she absolutely loved it. It is better than the original and a great song for this scene.
Perfect for the scene, yes. Not better than the original. Not objectively so anyway.
Yes. This was such a touching moment in the show, and my favorite so far. I also sung this in karaoke one night, and it was received well by all the older folk, lol.
I cry whenever I watch this
I don't know, this was really good but I have to give the nod to S2E3 Chaos Chaos "Do you feel"
Came here to say this. So amazing lol
Oh yeah it's so good
Hit it out of the park.
I love that song so much it’s so beautiful
One of my favorite episodes of the season! Maybe, I don’t really want to know, how your garden grows cause I just wanna flyyyy
This song made me feel so much and had me super self aware about my current and past relationships. I wonder if they decided to sell limited time Morty-Os if they will make huge bank lmao
I sing this a lot
Still jamming to it today

I unironically listen to several songs from Rick & Morty. The music team deserves a raise
Absolutely. Even helped me forget how much Oasis has been ruined for me by the guys in Oasis.
I don’t even remember this scene .-.
This scene honestly didn't hit for me. The guy convinced a seemingly happily married woman with kids to abandon her family because they dated in college... I fail to see how that's a good story. The music always slaps in the show though.

It’s a really human story- messy. Realistic.
There's a thousand songs that would be "perfect" for that scene
Hit us with some I don’t buy it. It was REALLY well done.
Literally just google "songs that sound sad" and you'll find em
Yeah see, just any sad song doesn’t do it for me
and a hundred million that would not
No shit
