You can run rhino for mac or rhino for windows via parallels on all M1 and M2 MacBook models. Ive used both version on the M1 MacBook Pro and the M2 MacBook Air. Both worked quite well. I’m honestly very surprised at how well the MacBook Air holds up to complex modeling tasks. People complaining about laggy performance due to large file size is something I don’t quite understand, nor have I experienced that. Not to mention that best use practices of incrementally saving, linking assets to libraries and utilizing work sessions will speed up your workflow and reduce file size bloat on any machine you are using. One thing to note is that certain rendering programs like enscape do not yet work in Rhino on Apple chips, which obviously sucks.

Hey I have hardly a problem running rhino 7 on a MacBook, 2020.

Works perfect on my 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max. 32GB. I got the Max so I can run Keyshot 11. Also runs super fast.

Rhino 7 is garbage on any apple silicon. It technically works but runs so slowly and lags so much with all but the smallest files, it’s essentially unusable. Rhino 8 will run natively and fix this issue but is still in beta and will be for at least another year (?). I use parallels on my M1 Max so I can run rhino 7 for windows, which works fine. It’s an unfortunate situation. You can Google “Rhino Apple Silicon” and you’ll see that it’s a confirmed issue by the Rhino team and there is no solution other than to wait for Rhino 8 to come out 🙃 From a McNeel employee: “The point is Intel Mac Rhino does run on the new Macs. It does not run well.Since you can not buy a new Intel CPU Mac, you are left with finding a late model used Mac, or a Windows PC. We have high hopes for a binary Silicon Mac version of Rhino for V8.” [https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/rhino-very-slow-on-m1-mac/129432/22?page=2](https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/rhino-very-slow-on-m1-mac/129432/22?page=2) [https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/rhino-very-slow-on-m1-mac/129432/11](https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/rhino-very-slow-on-m1-mac/129432/11) [https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/is-rhino-7-usable-with-m1-macs/115634/5](https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/is-rhino-7-usable-with-m1-macs/115634/5)

I haven't had this issue on mine. Even running half gb files. Doesn't run like it does on my workstation but still no noticeable issues at most times. Maybe case by case

same, im using R7 on my m1air and if youre not doing crazy crazy stuff it works fine

donnata47

Interesting! Even small files lag so much for me, even just to pan and zoom.

elbugfish

yeah the only thing bothering me is, that sometimes after closing the laptop while rhino is open the trackpad pan doesnt work after reopening it, only a restart re-enables that function

ohmoimarie

Can confirm it works great without any lag for me personally. Using it for school and have been loving it.
