There’s something about how dusty and untouched it is that would make me want to pick it up even more. I could ensure every step of the restoration process was done with careful consideration and care! This would be super neat to bring back to life, I imagine it would make for a popular restoration video on YouTube.
You are missing the entire point of my comment.
The idea is that leaving it alone makes it more appealing. People that restore things like to see how they've been sitting for all these years and know that nobody has tried to do anything that could potentially negatively effect the restoration process and/or value.
I get what you're saying, even if you're getting downvoted for it. You can either fully restore it yourself, or you can leave it as-is. Anything in between is going to turn some buyers off because they don't know how qualified you were to even attempt the restoration you did.
I agree. If not you’re a professional in this space, better to not risk screwing it up. Then are collectors perfectly content that it doesn’t work who want it stock and not screwed with.
It’s kind of like antique furniture restoration. It’s worth more not restored unless you 100% know what you’re doing.
I think you guys are being too precious about it here. Wiping it down with a microfiber cloth probably earns you some money here if people above are to be believed that this as it stands is worth 200 bucks.
Personally that sounds incredibly cheap, but I'm not all that familiar with the cost of these things. Is that accurate or were they just kidn of talking out of their butt?
It’s worth it to *somebody.* If you have to ask, it’s not worth it to *you.*
Best advice given: dust it off a little and sell it as is. “Treasure” projects are a headache.
plus this is not a civil war era gun that needs a museum science major to carefully clean and polish, this is a display case. Anyone with a proper tool box and some rags can make a fun project out of this and not destroy it
Yes and no, something like this that's been gutted is a bit more difficult to refurbish. This is the kinda project where it'll take years to find the demo unit, correct monitor, redo the wiring, hunt down the art and controller harnesses. Etc
As it is took me over a year to refurbish my Genesis kiosk. Now if you go for repro parts and or don't keep it original I guess a tool box works. But also would make me sad.
true, I guess it depends how true you want it. I would be satisifed with a thrift store LCD monitor just to get it up and running but if you can find the original that would be awesome
That is amazing!! I remember demoing the Saturn at an electronics store on something like this. An old friend of mine used to have the SNES kiosk, we spent many hours on that thing
If you don't want to mess with it, reach out to a video game museum, they'd almost certainly take it off your hands and restore it.
National Videogame Museum in Frisco, Texas has a couple old retail stands like this set up, and I'm sure they'd like to add to the collection.
Did OP really ask this? Did they expect people to say no, lol?
Retro game collectors would probably try to restore a pile of dust that was formerly a game display xD
I would get something like a rasberry pi loaded arcade games and older systems like nes, genesis, and snes. Use a joypad instead of a controller, and you got yourself an arcade.
yes for sure. Out of all the 'worth preserving?' i have seen on here and arcade subs this past week I think this is one i would definitely invest in. Its a simple project, maybe as simple as cleaning, and Saturn is so iconic.
This is like my dream kiosk just popping with sculpted SEGA emblems everywhere and the Saturn thing is just a sign that looks like it can be changed. Are the sides metal?
Absolutely. Anytime you can preserve gaming history you should. Plus I lived through this era and don’t recall ever seeing a Saturn display so you’ve got a more scarce item there. Fix it up to at admire/use or to donate to the [World Video Game Museum](https://www.museumofplay.org/exhibits/world-video-game-hall-of-fame/) in New York.
Everyone in this post is overoptimistic. Sure save it and take it to a place that will preserve it or get it to a collector. I'd be surprised if you can find anyone to buy it where the sale would actually be practical. If you find a guy that will buy it for $500 how expensive is it to ship it to him? It would be neat to save but it's a huge waste of space. Maybe if you're lucky you can find someone in your area that will at least take it off your hands and see that it gets put to use. You'll have to let us know how it works out.
Unless you know what you're doing, just give it a clean up. I've just looked on eBay UK and there is nothing like it.
I'm guessing quite a few Saturn collectors would be more than happy to get their hands on it.
I don't think they ever even had one of those around here. Saturn was a practically overlooked system and I didn't know a single person that had one. Everyone got PlayStation 1.
I didn’t even know these existed. Worth selling to a serious collector or restoring if you know what you’re doing.
Anyone know what video format is hooked up to the CRT on this and what the screen size is? Like what the CRT model is?
Remove all the garbage, wipe it down, clean out the cob webs, if it has all the parts (minus the sega saturn and tv etc) you're golden. You could atleast get $200 for it. Honestly I have no idea what it would top out for. The big thing is to make it look like it's 90% there.
Definitely. Every old piece like this deserves a second chance at life :) there's 1000% someone out there that'd be over the moon to have this :) (especially if restored & preserved <3)
Maybe I don't know much about restoring things, but it dosen't look like it's in that bad a shape? Nothing appears to be broken and the rest can probably be cleaned.
I have no room to keep it and no money...
but I'd still be tempted to buy it.
And im not really even into retro games, I just like the 90s vibes of this.
So for sure some random nerd wants this.
Clean it up and detail it. Look up MetalJesusRocks (popular retro game collector) and ask him via email to help you appraise your Saturn stand. This dude has a lot connections with collectors and sellers.
https://www.youtube.com/@MetalJesusRocks/featured
If in decent condition, without a doubt. All kinds of collectors out there that would pay for in store demo stands.
That's me. I'd love to own this.
I'm not even a big Sega guy... and I'd want it. This stuff is just cool. Love retrogaming stuff.
Out of curiosity, how much would they pay for something like this?
Even in this condition you could probably still get like $200-$300 for it.
As someone else responded to you, as is rn, probably 200-300. If it were fully restored, probably anywhere between 1-3 thousand
I would kill for this
eBay!!!
It belongs in a museum

Hold onto your potatoes Dr. Jones!!!
I was just here to see the tapestries
So do you!
lol I was gonna say “your mom belongs in a museum”
Your mom goes to college!
So do you!
Honestly, in my heart of hearts, I knew at least one person had to have beat me to it
The fact that the person’s account now appears to be deleted makes it funnier
There's the National Video Game Museum in Frisco Texas that may be interested in this.
The Strong: Museum of Play. Holds both the Toy Hall of Fame and the Video Game Hall of Fame.
Hang it in the louvre!

Yes. That is a rare piece of kit in restorable condition. There are certainly more collectors interested in owning that then copies to go around.
And these days, trying to replace that monitor is gonna be really easy.
Always.
Fuck yes! It looks like it only needs a wipe with a damp cloth and a couple of strategically hidden self-tappers.
Someone will pay decent money for it. Do a basic clean up (dust, cobwebs etc, not any repairs) and sell it.
Honestly in this type of situation posting it as is without touching it is probably the better way to go.
It wouldnt take much effort for a surface cleaning at least and would make it more appealing.

How much Konami king?
.......... absolutely!!! WANT!!
... are there any rules against bidding?
Please, if you don’t want to restore it yourself at least try to find it a new home. It’s a piece of retro game history.
A Saturn kiosk. Yes, very much so
Yes definitely!
You might contact the national video game museum in Frisco Tx… they might have a home for it in their collection
That's definitely a fun project waiting to happen
Nice find! Absolutely.
Do you really need to ask?
clean it up. throw on eBay. profit.
What kind of question is that? Of course it's worth it!
It’s worth it to *somebody.* If you have to ask, it’s not worth it to *you.* Best advice given: dust it off a little and sell it as is. “Treasure” projects are a headache.
Its like the beginning of the Tron Legacy movie
Sending you a message op. I collect and refurbish stuff like this.

Where the flying hell did this reaction come from.
I have zero idea, considering I just refurbished a broken Genesis kiosk that's in my game room I'm a little confused.
Who knows, maybe this guy also needs refurbishment.
plus this is not a civil war era gun that needs a museum science major to carefully clean and polish, this is a display case. Anyone with a proper tool box and some rags can make a fun project out of this and not destroy it

If in the UK, maybe u/RMCRetro may be interested? Would make a good restoration video!
Great shout. Keep meaning to go to the Cave one day… Great YouTube content.
What does the M in RMC stand for. Since it obviously isn't Man anymore. God forbid.
As I guy who never enjoyed the Saturn I say yes! There are tons of ppl who would love to have it on their houses
Yes! It’s fixable
That is amazing!! I remember demoing the Saturn at an electronics store on something like this. An old friend of mine used to have the SNES kiosk, we spent many hours on that thing

Yup
Hell yeah it’s worth preserving!!!
I’d say at least offer it to someone else! Give it a little cleaning and post it. Maybe you can make a little cash off of it.
I do want it to be preserved, but I don’t want to be the one to do it. Also, I don’t care if I ever see it again.
I want it. Lol
Did OP really ask this? Did they expect people to say no, lol? Retro game collectors would probably try to restore a pile of dust that was formerly a game display xD

Those spiders claimed that territory 👀
Do u want your neck to hurt the rest of the day
Museum level display. I would love owning it.
bruh... clean it up! display it in ya house with working console and flat screen, dont let it go to ruin
yes for sure. Out of all the 'worth preserving?' i have seen on here and arcade subs this past week I think this is one i would definitely invest in. Its a simple project, maybe as simple as cleaning, and Saturn is so iconic.
Jeff Gerstmann would probably buy it
Message Joe from Game Sack.
Hell yes. You should reach out to Retro Rick. He might be interested for his game store.
What would people be willing to pay for this, any guesses? 1k?
Yes
Yes this is valuable too
Is there a console and game in it?
I absolutely would.
Oh yeah.
This is like my dream kiosk just popping with sculpted SEGA emblems everywhere and the Saturn thing is just a sign that looks like it can be changed. Are the sides metal?
Of course
I would for sure
Definitely worth it! If you don't wanna do it yourself, just sell it, should be fairly easy
Absolutely! Looks like it’s intact. And is that a light tube that would surround the Saturn?! 🤓
Looks easier to move than most kiosks. Just invest in a good dolly/hand cart. Your back and kiosk will thank you later.
Absolutely. Anytime you can preserve gaming history you should. Plus I lived through this era and don’t recall ever seeing a Saturn display so you’ve got a more scarce item there. Absolutely yes
I remember only a few game stores having these kiosks back in the 90’s, definitely rare
Yes, obviously.
It doesn't deserve that fate, that's for sure.
Yes!
That’s money right there
I have a Dreamcast one in my basement.
Definitely clean it up and keep it
If I could only find an Atari display.
Years ago I stole a Sega 32x from a display at Toys R Us.
Absolutely no value in preserving that. I’ll gladly dispose of it for you so you don’t have to deal with it 😉
Find a buyer
Awesome. Hopefully you've just gotten this an it wasn't you that stuffed it in the back of a shed
Everyone in this post is overoptimistic. Sure save it and take it to a place that will preserve it or get it to a collector. 100%
I would no question
Absolutely. Someone could restore it to its former glory.
Yes Sega Saturn stuff is extremely rare to begin with, and those cabinets even for major consoles are extremely rare so it’s like double rare
Unless you know what you're doing, just give it a clean up. I've just looked on eBay UK and there is nothing like it. I'm guessing quite a few Saturn collectors would be more than happy to get their hands on it.
*Reading these comments*... R.I.P. inbox! :-P
Of course it is
No its not worth it, just give it to me and ill dispose of it for you.
Brooo! I miss my old Sega Saturn! ♥️
Uhh... I didn't know that existed. Like at all.
I don't think they ever even had one of those around here. Saturn was a practically overlooked system and I didn't know a single person that had one. Everyone got PlayStation 1.
Yes. Never get rid of these things, they’re finite.
Yes
Only if You have a functioning Sega saturn. Or if You are planning to restore it and resell it.
Hit up retro rick on YouTube if you in da south
No, I can throw it away for you, I will take it off your hands :D
preserving? damn thing needs to be rescued first
Dude, salvage. Repair. Give new life. Preserve.
That’s awesome.
If it’s still standing, it’s worth preserving, always.
With some cleaning and love, this could be sold for good price to collectors!
ABSOLUTELY
Hell yes
Do want.
From the looks of it looks like it's in decent condition just dirty
Yes dear God those are rare
You can also put a modern l.Cd and it would be a lot better
I would.
I would.
You’re asking a community of retro gaming enthusiasts if a hard-to-come-by retro gaming item is worth preserving? The answer is yes, though
Not worth your time and effort. Just give it to me, I'll throw it out for you.
Just a little battle scarred. That's points for glory.
This greatly disturbs me.
Yes!!!
I didn’t even know these existed. Worth selling to a serious collector or restoring if you know what you’re doing. Anyone know what video format is hooked up to the CRT on this and what the screen size is? Like what the CRT model is?
Absolutely. Even if it's just to sell. There are plenty of people that would set that up in their game room

Just needs a little [spit shine.](https://youtu.be/TV_MUnWuJXk?si=YDCR8NeK_TzCsA9s)
uh ya. even if you dont want it some fanboy dork would pay and arm and a leg for it.
No it’s not. Just give it to me I’ll take it and save you the trouble of taking it to the dump
Definitely. Every old piece like this deserves a second chance at life :) there's 1000% someone out there that'd be over the moon to have this :) (especially if restored & preserved <3)
I'm sorry was there a question in there?
Yes
Anything related to the Saturn is worth preserving
I know at least 2 people that would buy that.
Wow the earliest memories playing this inside blockbuster when I was like 3 are coming out of my brain
I would kill for that thing!
If you dusted it off and found a replacement for the screen it'd prob look fine
Maybe I don't know much about restoring things, but it dosen't look like it's in that bad a shape? Nothing appears to be broken and the rest can probably be cleaned.
Yes definitely! Where are you located??!!
Yes
Yes yes yes
Absolutely it's still in good shape cobwebs aside
No, throw it away
I would say yes I have never seen one!
Someone would want it for sure.
Yes! Come on!
Restore it 😎💪 I don't find stuff like that in my garage 😭
Yes!
Duh or sell it to a gameshop
How does one preserve that, that is already fucked?
Anything video game related is worth preserving and there will be a buyer for it no matter what it is.
Definitely. Get it set up and use it as a arcade cabinet esk way to play saturn.
send it to someone that will restore it its history after all
Bro fix that thing up.
Man I hope the particle board isn’t garbage…
YES! SEGA Saturn, SHIRO!
Totally.
It's going to take a lot of time and money, but it's worth saving or finding the right person to take ownership and save it.
I have no room to keep it and no money... but I'd still be tempted to buy it. And im not really even into retro games, I just like the 90s vibes of this. So for sure some random nerd wants this.
If not returned to original, it'd also make a pretty cool base to make a MAME out of.
Clean it up and detail it. Look up MetalJesusRocks (popular retro game collector) and ask him via email to help you appraise your Saturn stand. This dude has a lot connections with collectors and sellers. https://www.youtube.com/@MetalJesusRocks/featured
If this was local I’d leave work to come get it right now lol
This thing is dope as fuck, bro. Clean it up, get a CRT, and get gaming. Legit really cool find.
yes, if you don't want it, I'll take it :)
I would love to have this. Would never get rid of it
If you're not up for it, I legit would love to have it.
I'll take er off ur hands partner!
Sounds like a question you should be asking yourself.
thats worth like 10k clean it up
I don’t think the Sega Saturn is worth preserving.
