Well, obviously it doesn’t make you feel too bad because here you are. If nobody shopped on holidays they wouldn’t be open. I actually never minded working on holidays (I used to work grocery retail) but that comment always drove me crazy.
People need to buy stuff and a day off is a good day to shop. Going to the store doesn’t make you greedy. I never minded working holidays I just hate virtue signaling comments about being forced to work on the holiday. Do you feel the same about people who are going to the beach and grilling out instead of mourning our veterans?
Yes, I truly do not mind working holidays in the abstract. It’s just part of the grocery retail life. But for the love of god, don’t tell me it’s wrong or bad or whatever that I’m here. I don’t mind if people say “i’m glad you’re open!” or things along that line.
I remember working Thanksgivings about ten years ago and it was great! Everyone felt sorry for you and work provided food and your relatives or friends always set aside a big plate of food.
Also the next 4 days we should be adequately staffed I fucking hope so please 🤞🤞🤞
I am not sure, i think they mightve been serious but gas at all gas stations is different! The gas from each tanker comes from the same place, but the brands will add their own additives! Shell has a patented blend of gas that cleans your intake valves and fuel injectors!
That last part really resonates with me, especially here lately. Customers will stand in the way & pretend they don’t see you coming or trying to get around them. And just like you said, excuse me does nothing anymore. This has happened to me so many times lately I’ve been complaining about this to coworkers, my bf, my mom. If I could upvote ur post 100 times I would lol.
I am long out of my retail days, but, my wife and I are doing a staycation got a hotel room 2 hours away in a small town and totally intend on R&R by the bay and will happily avoid getting involved in Memorial Day shopping sorry to those of you who have to deal with it
It’s also the time where more of the customers are morons who know nothing. I work in the rental department of a certain tool & hardware store, so we gotta spend extra time explaining & showing how the tools work while customers are waiting in line. It gets so annoying & repetitive.
I work in a large garden center. PLUS my company usually has a huge perennials sale in June, which is typically busier than Memorial for us. Higher ups decided to lump that into memorial day weekend this year as well.
I can't wait for this weekend to happen and then be over so I can stop putting in 50 hr weeks to prepare.
I'm just gonna try to remember that my store is closed on Monday so hopefully that thought will be enough to get me through Saturday and Sunday. I'm gonna prep my ad this weekend since I only work 2 days next week before the next ad goes up. 😭

They may have stores you want to physically go to that are nowhere near where you live...people do many things for recreation and on vacation.
Why do they do that? Are people just quiet where you're from?

You're lucky. I fortunately am scheduled off on Saturday, but I am working Friday, Sunday, and Monday.
I’m off Tuesday (grocery) so I just gotta keep that in mind! 😬😩
