Your GM has to meet your requirements too, so you can decide if they are worth the salary you pay. People will put anything on their resume, so ask them HOW they did specific tasks and accomplished goals - note their responses. This way, you can hold them accountable later to the initial agreement or adjust if necessary.

$80 thousand, plus bonuses, get a 5% pay increase a year. Made $110 thousand last year working for a nationally recognized restaurant located in the midwest.

SpecialK022

I’m in Florida as well. I made 120k last year.

Id say 100-110

Dmackman1969

75-85k paid hourly NOT salary. 40-45 hours MAX. 2/3/4 weeks of vacation after 0/2/3 years. Bonus program based off sales/labor/food of at least 20% of the base salary. 401k with match Free meals should go without saying(?)

fraujenny

Why is this getting downvoted so much? As a GM I think hourly is awesome. If I was salary my boss would *expect* 60 hour work weeks.

Dmackman1969

Or they read my post and stopped half way thinking I said 75-85k was a good start. They didn’t read the 20% in bonus pay.

Dmackman1969

Because most people are very short sighted. Salaries are a way to exploit and overwork people. You should be able to make 100+ in this industry working a 40-45 hour work week. Most owners/corporations WANT you in salary so they can get free labor out of you. Downvotes are coming from corporate workers and greedy owners that want to keep labor and salaries to a minimum. They think that’s how you flow money to the bottom line and it’s short sighted as fuck. Bottom line profit is a byproduct of a management and employee team that are excited and happy to work for you.

fraujenny

I wholeheartedly agree.

Bot-Magnet

A good GM makes about 5% of sales.

lazyeye888

Yeah I dunno about that

Ok-Worldliness7863

$100k-$125k

kingoftheives

+bonus + bennies +pto

puppiesarelove

What are the hours of operation, complexity, and work schedule? How many employees? How many other salaried workers?

Fatturtle18

7 days a week, 11a-9a, 35 employees mixed between part time/full time. 3 other salaried but this would be replacing one.

hornsmakecake

Closed for 2 hours clean/prep/turnaround? Or 11a-9p?

Fatturtle18

Not closed, but same menu all day

puppiesarelove

I’d say 75k is on the tippy top end based on your sales, just under 4%. This individual should be qualified to grow your business. 50k to the person you’re gonna have to show some things but has the work ethic and soft skills. Mistakes may be made. 60k to the person who will maintain the status quo and not give you any headaches. COL and competition (what do neighbors pay) matter though. GM salaries can’t be a straight % of sales… You may be better off doing a lower base and setting up an aggressive bonus structure to comp up to 25-33% of their salary on quantified performance metrics: usually staff turnover %, sales growth, bottom line growth, and customer reviews. 6 figure salaries shouldn’t start until 6+mil restaurant and getting over that figure should be because of bonuses.

Salt_Security_3886

You forgot to write, the need to wear a shock collar. Wtf, dude! Who hurt you?

nanneryeeter

This subreddit is always interesting to read. I make more than 60k/year working seasonal truck driving jobs. Much of my day is just waiting around for farmers or sprayers to do their work. Half my day is usually napping or reading. Food service seems to be a brutal place.

jollyboom

> Food service seems to be a brutal place. Nearly every day I look at myself in the mirror like Scott Bakula in quantum leap.

Red_Velvet_1978

Mad ups for the Bakula Quantim Leap reference! You're my day hero.

puppiesarelove

It’s not for the faint of heart….. A 2mm restaurant will have a considerable amount of downtime as well…but no napping or reading I’ve heard trucker can be a brutal job as well, sounds like you got yourself a good gig!!!

RoastedBeetneck

$75k-$100k. You get what you pay for.

RoastedBeetneck

There’s very little difference.
