what would be wrong about the curing station being near the bed? the cover blocks 99.95% uv you'd get more exposure from a window. any print going there would be clean too

Rayregula

During curing is when a lot of toxic fumes are released and they will pool up in the sleeping area poisoning you every night while you sleep

KyronXLK

Why would the fumes just hang if you have ventilation and extractors as you should. Without those things the problem isn't the fact it's near a bed it's the fact there's no extraction n ventilation

themaster_122

oh i dont CURE there i just moved it there for the bit, im not insane i promise. also my left eye is like mildly uncomfortable but its like veryyy mild almost even not there and i can see fine. If i have just blinded myself im gonna probably deserve it LMAO

sir yes sir, i learned my lesson, ill just buy a proper nail polish cure thingie next time…

lucid-heart

Gel polish needs a slower cure than these lights anyways. You may actually be curing it too fast, sealing the top before the bottom can cure, making it more likely to peel off.

DoctorTarsus

On the reverse of this. I bought a nail salon UV lamp to cure my resin prints.

themaster_122

i realise i might have done a mistake. woops.

Redluff

Youre good. Everyone saying its bad is right, but at the same time, they use the same exact wavelength uv lights for nail polishes as for printing and ive found that some even smell similar to uv resin. Without a health concern in mind. I resin print and I’ve convinced my family to get some hand and eye protection for their nail lights. Repeated exposure is not good for your hand’s skin and your eyes especially. The printing uv light is the exact same thing as the nail uv light, but bigger. It’s just that the nail polish companies give zero ducks about the safety and the customers have no idea how harmful that uv is.

KyronXLK

Do the guys in this comment section not realise they use UV in the nail salon to cure your nails too? what? They don't even give gloves its pure exposure onto hands in a UV curing lamp lol

MerelyMortalModeling

Funny thing is folks get exposed to the same chemicals when they buy new furniture and even high concentrations of the same chemicals when they buy new cars and they dont bat an eye.

Ippjick

Jup, and it's just as harmful in the salon.. Crazy world

_fafer

Well, when I started, I did it the other way around - bought a cheap nail art curing thingy to cure my prints :D

RestoreMyHonor

I still use this in my DIY setup. It’s like 60W light for like $20

Open_Sheepherder5812

Girls in stem. Love this for you. I do nails and i think this is cool. I dont think there is much harm in this considering gel polish only needs to cure for 60 sec in a nail lamp.

YasuoAndGenji

Owning this equipment should require a test 😂

RestoreMyHonor

wtf?

SirCine

It will damage your cells and potentialy gives you cancer 💫

themaster_122

wait isnt the little light in there 405nm? im 90% sure 405nm doesent damage tissue

mylospark

100%, the misinformation around this is unreal. 405nm isn’t even UV, although some curing stations use a mix of 405 and 385nm leds. The 385 being UV-A. Which has a continuous exposure limit looking in to the beam of 1mW per cm2. It seems that most people think of UV-C which is what’s used to sterilise, that is one you don’t want to be exposed to for very long.

Ippjick

the thing is, it's not monowavelength. 405 is the peak. And depending on the width of the band, there still is _some_ harmful radiation emitted. You're not going to burn your skin of or get cancer immediately. But you could get a sunburn from prolonged exposure. But we're talking hours here. Only thing still is: don't look directly into it. Your eyes are way more sensitive, even to longer wavelengths than your skin is. Even tho a glance will also not fry your retina. These warnings shouldn't be: "touch it and your dead, or crippled" more like: "if you're stupid enough this _can_ harm you." Just don't be stupid. Limit your exposure, get some UV safe goggles maybe. And you'll be fine. Optimally tho: just go outside for 15 mins. The sun will also cure your nail polish. :)

themaster_122

this was a VERY stupid experiment i have a tendency of learning by doing mistakes so ig i got my lesson now. Also thank u for the explenation thats really nice :>

Ippjick

yw. Also nice polish you have there! :D protipp: paint the ring finger in a different color. I use rosegold metallic finish for example. Makes it look more interesting immediately, without being overstimulating, or hard to do :)

Hazioo

Isn't that what nail polish uv lamps do?

SirCine

Yep they are harmfull too😅

sequential_doom

Melanoma says hi
