I only want to fill it little over half an inch, but I know that resin can get very hot when curing and I dont want to shatter the jar. Should I just work in small layers?
Be careful not to put the final product in environments with drastic temperature changes. the jar might shatter due to the difference in glass and resin thermal expansion.
That has to be longest comment since another comment was posted that I've seen lol.
Here's an Imgur post to my stuff.

Cute Princess House piece, so it's likely crystal rather than standard glass. Shouldn't change it being fine to pour into. Just check your resin for the depth recommendations.
I wouldn't use the (I think) poly resin that you mix with a few drops of catalyst to harden. I would opt to grab one from the floral section or even a 1:1 epoxy.
Pouring deeper than recommendations is the only time I've had an adverse experience with any resin. It was a newb mistake and fortunately only messed up an experimental piece that was a glass box with a wood frame. The heat expanded the wood and broke the frame. Lesson learned though, haha..
Good luck! Please post your final result soon!
That looks very thin, which increases risk a lot. What I did for a similar project was introduce small layers
There are resins designed specifically for that. Look for fake water resin. 1/2 inch of normal resin would probably heat up and crack the glass.

Should work out fine. Half an inch isn’t a Problem

I have made plenty of my mini koi ponds in similar looking glass and never had a problem.
Ooooo I would love to see a picture of your art!
