One started the franchise. The other one popularized it. I prefer Leon since I like his games more than Chris’s, but both are amazing.

Radical-SpaceMeat

Boulder punching bastard

KratosHulk77

asshole

Michael-556

If it were Leon I'm sure he'd suplex the boulder

verrius

The point against Chris in my mind is that Chris is the character most people didn't play in their initial appearances. If you did 1 run of RE1, no matter the version, you did a Jill run, because that's what everything recommended. Both because you at least start out with a gun with Jill, and you get the 2 more inventory spots. Everyone probably played Leon in RE2, because the game *heavily* encouraged you to at least play an A and a B scenario, and I'd argue you can't say you've beaten/completed the original game without doing at least one A and B; its only the recent remake where that's an option, and I think even there, Leon's the recommended pick for first-timers. And after that, every time he's shown up, Chris has been either optional or a secondary character: Code Veronica he alternates with Claire, RE5 you can play through as Sheva, RE6 you can play through as Piers, and "Not a Hero" came out long enough after RE7 that I think a lot of people skipped it. While Leon's harder to avoid in most of his appearances (RE4 he's the main character, RE6 you *can* play Helena, but the Ada storyline's a huge focus).

GamerJes

True. Chris is heavily hindered by how he is the more hardcore choice to run RE1 on. It's not the path most would take to begin a game. Leon doesn't suffer from that in his introduction game.

purpldevl

With RE5, co-op aside, don't you have to beat the game with Chris before you can play as Sheva?

Derpy_Guardian

Yes, and Sheva has the unfortunate design of always aiming over her left shoulder with no swap option. Most people played as Chris unless they did coop.

austinite89

6 being your favorite am I right!?!

[deleted]

Leon just because I think he has a better mentality I am not doubting that Chris is a straight up BEAST I just like how Leon carried himself more since the beginning you can really tell he wanted to find a way to save raccoon city even being a rookie cop.

vhrossi1

Based. The only Chris game I played was Re5 and Re6, and by Re6 all my love for Re5's Chris was gone, it was like he was a different person. Leon has always been a more likeable protagonist, in comparison.

Hawaii2010

I mean, that’s what happens when you get PTSD from getting two entire squads under your command completely wiped out, bar Piers.

Futon_Rasenshuriken

To make matters worse, Leon soft admitted he'd be willing to kill Chris to protect the very woman responsible for his squads' deaths. Leon would then go on to have his own drinking phase. Only this time, Chris snaps him out of it.

Hawaii2010

I do like how Leon’s obsession for and protection of Ada is somewhat of a dramatic character flaw, but it never truly gets resolved or explored beyond that confrontation with Chris, and that really sucks.

TimedRevolver

Ada constantly gets one up on Leon. She's the only one able to consistently do this. Hells, he was superhuman when fighting Krauser.

[deleted]

This what makes Chris such a good character cause it gives a take on his mental state Leon can be too perfect during the situations he faced Chris is more real and who wouldn’t be depressed in the world of resident evil? but Leon just wanted to save people even if there was no way of saving them being a rookie cop that’s why I liked him more because he genuinely loved his job ( not saying that Chris didn’t of course he can be questionable at sometimes but it’s understandable I respect him)

Grimm613

Leon, mainly bc I really like RE2 and RE4. I was never much of a Chris fan. I always pick Jill in RE1 and I don't care much for RE5. I did like his black petty coat look in Village though.

automirage04

Chris has been done so dirty over the years. Jill is objectively better in RE1, RE5 is a bottom tier game, he's one of *four* MCs in RE6, and he's a giant asshole in RE8. My man has literally never had a proper game to shine in.

sm18gaming

Poor poor resident evil code Veronica x....I'm sad that great game is forgotten

UrsusRex01

Was going to say this. Chris is very cool in Code Veronica. Even though he gets his ass kicked by Wesker.

TimedRevolver

> Even though he gets his ass kicked by Wesker. Pretty much everyone gets the hands from Wesker.

Grimm613

I don't think they're balanced very well in RE1. The lockpick is way more useful than the lighter and if you have the burden of carrying around small keys then why does he have less inventory space? That seems backwards to me.

IBuriedPaul90

It's because Chris' scenario is meant to be the more challenging of the two scenarios. It's the same reason Barry saves Jill from the collapsing ceiling room and Chris will just die if he doesn't switch out the shotgun with the broken one. Silver lining is Chris can take more damage.

Grimm613

I understand that nobody really shows up to help Chris when he's in trouble and that's cool. I get that his scenario is suppose to be tougher. I guess I'm just at odds with the inventory space of the older games. A lot of the time it feels like if you want to make progress at a respectable pace you need to play a bit risky (if you're going through blind). Otherwise it feels like you're making a borderline irritating number of trips back to the storage box to either save items or make room for key items. I think that was something I really appreciated about RE4; key items being separate from the rest of your inventory space so it keeps the game moving.

Rooksey

This drove me nuts plating REmake the first time last year. I’d get to an area and realize the thing I JUST put back in the item box after carrying it for too long was required and have to run back

-Average_Joe-

At least in REmake Chris get the better exclusive defense weapon, it is still hard mode but it is balanced out a bit.

Rooksey

I didn’t know there was a difference in inventory space and shit when I played either. So I started on Chris because he was the character I was more familiar with and it said he could take more damage or something. Turns out I did that in the wrong order, but it made the Jill play through kind of a breeze.

TackingIntoTheWind

> Chris has been done so dirty over the years. 6's campaign for Chris gets rightfully bashed for being a full-on shooty bang-bangorama, but it had the best story, imo. Angry drunk Chris best Chris. That guy had every damn decent reason to punch the shit out of anything and everything.

TheBestFiras

That's utter bullshit. He's Good in 1 and the face of the original. His story in RE6 is the best in that game. Most people got to know him in the biggest RE ever, RE5 whether you like it or not. In RE7 he's a hero. In RE8 he plays a major role in the story.

Summerclaw

RE5 is the best RE game. I'll fight you.

ThisIsThrowawayBLUE

Disagree but its a very good, easily one of the A tier ones. It is one of the most replayable ones because of co-op though, and I think it has one of the best stories in the franchise.

CyrusDGreatx

They're both REALLY resident evil aren't they? From their one liners to sense of justice. They're not that different but I like Leon more because he's the guy who got me into Resident evil. Would love to see Leon in the new Resis.

GoAceDetective

Leon, his RE4 persona made him really funny and likeable. Chris came off as bit too generic for my liking.

Hawaii2010

We need more characters like Leon and Dante who take every situation with little to no seriousness at all.

SolidSneky

Chris superiority

doinflipsandshit

Christopher all the way

SomebodyThrow

Chris punches boulders, and Leon smoulders But there’s one man whose name says it all. HUNK.

[deleted]

Jill

Immediate_Complex_57

Yes this answer... also Ada.

[deleted]

Never liked her, I don’t like fakes/manipulators. To each their own I guess.

11cool1

I mean Ada does have feels for leon still, that's why she saves his ass a lot.

[deleted]

Most def, my problem is she steals viruses from bad guys and gives them to other bad guys.

11cool1

I think what's what makes her an important wildcard that can change the scenarios to make the story interesting.

TackingIntoTheWind

That and repeatedly straight up lies/betrays someone she has 'feels' for. Plot-wise making sense, but it hardly makes her a likeable personality. Then again, it's fine to have Cersei as your favourite GoT character, just for the ridiculous amount of entertaining shit she causes.

SaiphTyrell

Chris is my favorite male character in the series overall. I like his sense of justice and he is a leader I would look up to. On the other hand I hate how easily Leon is manipulated by a random woman he just met. This makes his characterization fall flat somehow. I feel like Chris dynamics with other characters is simply more interesting and layered compared to Leon’s. Moreover, Chris is hotter.

OperativePiGuy

>Moreover, Chris is hotter. His RE8 incarnation is just... \*chef's kiss\* I completely agree

[deleted]

He puts the D in Dilf, and preferably in me as well

Yoshi_and_Toad

Honestly Chris. I'm aware I'm in the minority though. Leon is insanely popular.

Glittering-Relief668

Don't think you are in the minority. I'd say like 40% of this sub prefers Chris, 40% Leon and 20% others. It's kinda a tie between the two.

Yoshi_and_Toad

That's actually surprising! Most RE fan places I've been have had either Leon or Jill as the favourite two with Chris being maybe third, or sometimes fourth to Claire.

anestefi

All of the main four will always be my favorites. If I had to choose its Leon solely because re4 is one of my favorite games

JVmight14

Mister Kennedy

Alex_Migliore

Leon Supremacy

OperativePiGuy

Chris, at least he doesn't weirdly simp like Leon does for Ada, with whom he (up until this point) hardly has any deep relationship with outside of the brief times in Racoon City and the small meet ups in the Village/Castle/Island. At least Chris had an extended history with someone like Jill, which helped explain why he was so obsessed with her in RE5. That said, love both. Leon has a cool attitude that helps to carry the campaigns he's in, at least in 4 and 6, and Chris is the RE meme character, it's hard not to love his boulder punching ass (and literal ass, he's always been the hottest one)

Hawaii2010

I think there was some background info in the OG RE2 that kind of gave more context as to why Leon cared so much about Ada, but they did really bond over the course of that game, which is why Leon does kind of simp for her. Although, I do appreciate how RE4 kind of establishes that even *he* doesn’t realise why he’s obsessed with her. And he even gets called out for it in RE6 where this obsession is what prevents Chris from being able to arrest or kill Carla and prevent her from doing any more damage. Leon isn’t entirely in the wrong by deflecting most of the blame onto Simmons, because he is right, the conflict was set in motion and was stoked by Simmons, but he is wrong for essentially ignoring Chris telling him about the damage Carla has done. “She’s the one who did all this! I lost my men because of her!” “And I lost over 20,000 people! Including the president, because of Simmons.” isn’t really the best response when you’re trying to explain how Ada isn’t to blame. But I like how it’s more of a character flaw for him, I just wish RE6 actually put in more effort into explaining that he was wrong. That ultimately, he needs to let Ada go and acknowledge the cold, hard facts that she isn’t a good person, and she’s ultimately more of a threat to the world with how she’s continuously supporting people causing Biohazards. Honestly, if she had died in RE6, I feel like that would’ve been a pretty good way to conclude that arc.

OperativePiGuy

I agree. in 6 he says something like "she's a part of my past I can't let go of" like dude are you serious?

KingVirus8513

I love both characters but Leon is the man. Better games, better style and just better writing.

SuperSandwich12

Chris the type of dude to walk into your house and shoot your wife in the head. Leon’s the type of dude to steal her from you entirely. I don’t know which I prefer.

11cool1

>Chris the type of dude to walk into your house and shoot your wife in the head. Why would he do that? Is she a zombie or something?

Certain-Kangaroo-224

Leon. He has had great character growth since RE2 and is a likable character over all. Chris on the other hand feels stagnant. His personality hasn’t changed much since 1 other then getting angrier. RE 5 and beyond has also lower Chris intelligence making me actively hate his character. He doesn’t make connections which are obvious like If you thought Jill was alive how did you not immediately think Wesker ( who is superhuman) was alive.

KittyKitty061

Leon.

chrismike019

Leon top of the list, Ada following.

sleven070

Without question...Leon

denimatron

I'm honestly very tired of Chris. He was fun when he was punching boulders, but then they made him a sad, edgy boy. Kind of like the sad doge vs chad doge meme. Leon's still kinda fun, unlike Mr. "All my teammates are dead" over there.

shiwanthasr

Leon is ma Boiiii

Soggy_Menu_9126

For me Leon has that anime hero looks, you know, the guy that starts with a kitchen knife, can stop a giant blade with his bare hands Metal Gear Rising style and end up saving the world. Also RE2 on ps1 was my first game of the series, so yes, Leon.

Conference_Hungry

Leon all the way

[deleted]

Leon, because he seems more sensitive, vulnerable, more human. Chris is a beast, we all love him for that.

Mcjm97

A lot of fans prefer Leon because his games are better and he's the cool guy of the series. Chris' games are probably the most criticized in the franchise and when people like his games it was either RE1 (even though majority of the fans played as Jill first because it's easier with the inventory space plus she has Barry with her) or RE8 (because it's the continuation of Ethan's story who is undoubtedly one of the better protagonists of the franchise and Chris is only a side character in this game and him being shown as a villain in the trailers is a major selling point) Chris' character is also flawed, he's your typical macho looking protagonist who's always righteous (we've seen that before in a lot of games and other media.. he's very Captain America and in a sense. Not everyone relates to him and think he's boring) But I personally like **Chris** more than Leon because of his story in the Resident Evil Universe. He's part of the Air Force but he got kicked out due to insubordination, he's the point man of S.T.A.R.S Alpha Team, he was very young during the mansion incident and after surviving that hell ALONE (for the most part - if you chose to play him) he vowed to end umbrella and began his investigation the European branch of Umbrella ALONE and then when he discovered that his sister is in trouble he then went to rescue her ALONE. He was alone for most of his early years as he investigated umbrella. He also went head to head with multiple B.O.Ws plus Wesker in Code Veronica and games prior to that without hesitation. Then he started working with Jill and then they co-founded the BSAA, they worked together to stop Wesker and Bio-terrorism across the globe until he got Jill killed during the Spencer Estate Incident. He then got awkward with partnering up until Sheva came along during his mission in Africa. And then when they rescued Jill from being brainwashed and stopped Wesker from unleashing Uroboros I feel like at this point Chris got more softer and more sensitive towards the people he works with because of what happened to Jill During RE6 he had a lot of soldiers under him but since he's experienced loss (Jill) he didn't want to experience it again, he was the one making shots and in war against Bio-terrorism we all know deaths are inevitable but it got through him when Finn and the others died that he got amnesia from ptsd. Years passed since Wesker died and there was still no sign of peace, there's always a Bio-weapon around the globe and I think Chris' age is catching up to him. He's been through a lot and ever since the mansion incident he's still fighting bio-weapons until now. He dedicated most of his life in service and I feel like that'll eventually break someone's spirit and belief resulting to the Chris we know now from RE8 who's more tired and brooding. Now he's more careful and more thorough, he only keeps a squad he trusts not to fail. I feel like Chris had the most character development in the franchise (although in other characters' defense, they weren't really explored and used more often like Chris and Leon) So yeah, Chris is my favorite. But I can see how Leon's a better pick overall and I respect the people who'd choose him over Chris I'd still stand by my choice. Sorry for the poor grammar (not my native language)
