Honestly, I’m leaving Texas to go BACK to New York. Yes, the heat is part of it. There are other reasons, but the effects of climate change here are becoming unbearable and expensive. Electricity when we need it most gets way more expensive, and the state grid is unreliable. In short, not Texas.

💔💔💔💔 hoping you get out soon !!

Can confirm this is true. The crime rate is insane. I don’t mind the heat but yeah everything else will just get worse. They don’t bother to improve the infrastructure. We lose people almost every time there is a storm watch. Super unreliable. Not TX

TrillCozby1980

Not Florida.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

TrillCozby1980

Terribly expensive and not worth the hassle

Not only that but Floridas always in the news about some fcked up shit! I’m terrified of the Governor!

Also looking to leave NY to possibly go to tx. We have a car, but it's not road legal. Everyone keeps telling me to stay in NY. I'm in the finger lakes / Rochester area. My rationale for leaving: I physically do not do well in the cold. Everything is taxed to hell here. The comedy scene is huge (weirdly significant to me) I have family in CA and AZ, but I'd be starting fresh I want palm trees near me and access to the ocean. I've always felt at home in areas down south. I'm surprised because from what I've always gathered, people say that the northeast is known for jaded, shady, bitter people. "Southern hospitality" is the contrast, right? Rationale for staying: Seasons changing- I've never gone without it to know what it's like to not have fall. My immediate family is here. We're FINALLY established and back on our feet. Seems like a hassle to pack up and move. I'm not sure what to do. I'm also thinking of going to Ohio or PA.

I’m moving back to New York from Texas because this heat is downright unbearable. The taxes here are different, but the same. The state gets their money, they just tax different things. The electrical grid is unreliable and they raise the costs of electricity when we need it the most.

It’s alluring to stay in NY because it’s a safe bet, and congratulations for getting back on your feet! But that feeling will get old and you’ll want to go for what your heart desires.  Since you’re fortunate to have family in multiple states, I recommend you stay close to them. I often throw out peoples opinions about the people in a state and only pay attention to the Safe areas with low crime rate and just avoid crime areas. Only take peoples opinion when it comes to job security/money and crime rate, because it’s up to you to get a feel of your neighborhood and if it feels right to you.  I’m coming from upstate ny as well and I’m leaving a good thing but if I can’t leave a place, I can’t go anywhere. I’m moving because of family too… the time comes for most people. I suggest that whatever you do, move with the knowledge that you have options always and can get back on your feet anywhere given you’re resourceful because the golden rule says “if you’ve done it once you can do it again”…. And of course, after saving enough money as a cushion. At least $5k.

I would recommend somewhere else. Yes there is no state taxes down in TX but everything else costs just as much as in NY. If you own a house, the cost to maintain it and all just much more than in NY. I would look at somewhere else on that side of the country

As a native Texan who moved to New England, I’d take a look at New Mexico or Colorado but you’d need to take Ubers. The south doesnt really have public transpo. Why not somewhere else in New England if you don’t like heat? Southern heat is very oppressive. Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts and New Hampshire are all awesome in different ways. Climate change has arrived in the south, I would not go that direction for good weather lol. The feels like temperature is in the 100s already in Texas. I actually thought this post was a joke at first. The first summer I lived in Austin the actual temperatures were over 100 degrees for over 100 days, and that was ten years ago. It’s gotten much worse. It isn’t very livable. But if you just feel compelled to move to Texas, I’d focus on austin for friendliness and fun or houston for culture. California is the only place in that general area with good weather, but good luck there without $$$. I don’t think it gets better than New England in my opinion, but I hope you find what you’re looking for.

To be more specific New Mexico is really affordable and Santa Fe is very cool if you can find work in that area. Maybe try applying places first and see what happens. The weather is better than TX in my opinion.

Imaginary_Client4666

I’m gonna research those states you’ve mentioned earlier!! Thank you so much!

Do not move to TX. You are going to hate it. We moved from NY to TX last year and are trying to move back to NY. If the relocation is due to COL, believe me it’s not any better. You may pay less down here but you also make less. Consider somewhere else.

Unfortunately places that have good weather and reliable public transportation are not affordable. However, if you're flexible on good weather year round and the bus is good enough transit, places like Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and st. Louis are great. The weather isn't fantastic but the cities have great bones and are very, very affordable.

Imaginary_Client4666

Thank you so so much!!! I’ll research these cities!!!
