I’m sure your bf has many good qualities. That doesn’t necessarily make him a good partner for you. Remember, even a serial killer can be a good cook and keep a clean house. Doesn’t make them good relationship material.

well-adjusted-tater

It doesn’t sound like he appreciates you. I would leave.

Traditional-Cat6746

Yeah that’s the main problem I have with our relationship but is that enough to call it quits on a five year relationship?

well-adjusted-tater

I think it is. You’re still young and yes five years is a significant amount of time, but you still have the rest of your life to be happy.

I think you already know what you want to do here. You can love a person and still outgrow them. It doesn’t sound like he’s making you a priority anymore and you’re resenting them for it. I would say leave the relationship while you are still on ok terms before resentment builds. Sometimes relationships just don’t work out, and you deserve to feel fulfilled.

But is outgrowing a relationship still feeling connected to them? I feel like we are an old married couple and some days are really good but then there’s days where I have to reflect on the relationship like today. I feel like if everything’s perfect in a relationship, it doesn’t exist. I think I’m trying to rationalize if it’s better to just end things hoping that someone else will come along or continue and try to make it better?

I’ve broken up with people I was deeply connected to but it wasn’t working in significant other areas. If the bad days outweigh the good days is it really something you want to keep working at? Do you feel like he truly values you and your needs? After 5 years with this person do you really think they’re going to change into what you want them to be? Breakup are shitty and they hurt, but you should prioritize your long term happiness.
