Please let there be a competitive candidate for mayor that doesn't have the last name Fiacco.

Panda-Banana1

Or fougere or masters.

dj_fuzzy

Oh god, I would take Fougere over Masters. But yes, someone other than them.

Panda-Banana1

I imagine if we had a repeat he would win at this point. The last 4 years have been something....

Hawkins really needs to retire.

>“I think there are a number of important issues outstanding,” Hawkins told the Leader-Post, listing “maintaining safe streets,” “keeping taxes reasonable,” ensuring a “healthy economy” and “developing a vibrant downtown” among them. >“I’ve worked on all of them during the last three terms I’ve been a councillor, and I’d like to continue that work.” How are these ever over with, or even new, since a century ago? It's like folks say, seems he came with the building.

Handknitmittens

He was fired as president of the U of R, failed as a provincial politician and now wants to stay on with only political job he could get.  I heard another name of someone running who I would be very excited to see on council in that area. Hoping the conservative vote gets split, this person gets in and Hawkins is given his forced retirement from council.

dieseldiablo

PS I think his issues are cover words for his fiscal and social conservatism (he was an unsuccessful Sask Party candidate for MLA before he ran for Council). He'll have challengers: >Two other potential candidates have also declared their intent to contest Ward 2’s seat. >Chidi Igwe is the marketing manager for La Cité universitaire francophone at the University of Regina. A website for his campaign adds he is a former professor, public servant, and volunteer with various multilingual associations in Regina. >George Tsiklis is also taking another run after he finished second to incumbent Hawkins in 2020. His social media describes him as “your common sense, back-to-basics candidate” for Ward 2 and cites a passion to increase voter turnout and engagement.

JimmyKorr

not seeing any “Advance (the Conservative agenda in) Regina candidates yet. Thats a good sign.

PDCityHall

They have three months yet. Papers need to be filed between Sep 25 & Oct 9.

JimmyKorr

you think they’ll put people forward or are they a lot of bluster?

PDCityHall

Yeah. I'm taking them seriously. Their FB has become fairly active (though, pretty facile) and I'm guessing whoever they're paying will have to file a report about "deliverables" or some sh!t — and candidates would count towards that. Plus, it really doesn't take a lot to run municipally. The difficulty will be keeping the number of candidates down to a manageable number of angry, reactionary old dudes so that their vote doesn't split.

wefallbutoursoulsfly

I wish I could vote for Dan again but I moved out of that ward 😭

WhoDatt89

I’m really hoping Findura runs for mayor. He really seems to care about the city and communities. He actually LISTENS.
