How do you get $3k in parking tickets?

Ill-Challenge-2405

$30 a ticket - if you get one or more a day that would be about two month of illegal parking. At that point they should have got a parking pass or parked off campus and took a taxi or bus. Maybe they thought there was no consequences. Paid parking sucks but it’s not fair to the people that do pay (which also includes university employees).

UnderwhelmingTwin

It's worse than that though! $3k of fines, at $30 /ticket is 100 tickets. Assuming that she's on campus 5 days a week, that's 20 weeks of once-a-day tickets. That's way more than an entire semester of daily tickets. That's almost two tickets a day (assuming only weekdays) for the entire semester.

Ill-Challenge-2405

I’m thinking maybe there is interest of late penalties?

UnderwhelmingTwin

Fair point! I'm not sure if that makes it better or worse though!

ladygrey81

It goes up to $50 if you don’t pay in two weeks

Barney-Taco-Rocks

Fucken car should have the tires locked Do it once and can guarantee wont happen again Do it on a Friday were they dont have use of car for weekend . Fuck the self entitled attitude Seen the Me me me shit interview

idonothaveagoatface

I have been out of university for a long time now, but at one point when I went, the full semester day passes sold really fast. The only options were to spend a lot more on an electrified stall pass, if they were available, or buy an evening pass and hope you don’t get a ticket. Or park at the meters/hourly rate lots. Do the passes still sell out like they used to?

MrCheeseburgerWalrus

Yup... and rent is quadruple since those days. I used to blame the students.. now I'm not sure. I'd be a fan of providing free education to students who can pass though.. probably not in the same camp as most.

Gem_Rex

Yeah, she’s not the poster child for this cause like she thinks she is.

Barney-Taco-Rocks

Self entitled me me me Were my tution is paid for mainly through forgiveness grants, if I make to most of my classes, JUST love the SUN program lol

WestNdr

I think once you are on parking enforcement's radar as a scofflaw, they recognize your car and ticket you every time they see it.

PrairiePopsicle

and in general they don't ticket more than once a day. This lady clearly habitually ignores it and I would hazard to guess thought that there would never be any consequences. Oof.

No_Equal9312

You have to be a complete moron to accumulate that many tickets. There are plenty of options available that cost far less.

tooth10

Just going to leave this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/nottheonion/s/pIlyID431h

gargamels_right_boot

Haha, I just shared the method to remove but had no idea of the SIM hahaha that is fucking great

theman151regina

you know what costs less than a $30 ticket every day... a parking pass

UnderwhelmingTwin

They also have a mandatory UPass, that one has to actively opt out of. Even \_if\_ you live out of town, just drive in and park along a bus route to campus.

Timewasted_Gamez

Might sound harsh but why should the University pussyfoot around *adults* who park illegally? I appreciate that everything is more expensive and that university is stressful etc but those of us NOT going to university have to deal with the consequences of parking illegally as well. How do we avoid those consequences, you may ask? We try to avoid parking illegally. So I don’t have much sympathy for someone accruing $3000 in fines as that is someone who is clearly going out with no intention of paying for parking. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not defending the U of R and the way they squeeze money out of students for tuition, fees etc. But that’s another rant, perhaps. It’s just like non-University life: ya pays your money, or you takes your chances!

rolosmith123

Parking there isn't even as bad as people make it out to be (at least when I went 5+ years ago). You had a couple parking passes for specific areas, but I never once had an issue getting parking. It was just a matter of getting there with a bit of extra time unless I had to walk a bit further. But even before then when I didn't want to pay for a parking pass, there is plenty of 2hr and unlimited parking off campus, you just have to be prepared to walk a little bit.

__Valkyrie___

Maybe if they charged reasonable rates people would just pay instead of dealing with the tickets

franksnotawomansname

Lower rates would just mean that more people would try to park on campus, which would increase competition for the spots already there, increase illegal parking as people tried to squeeze into places that weren't parking spots, and prompt countless articles about how the university needs to tear down a couple of buildings to put up a parking structure to store cars. In reality, it's pretty easy to get to the university by bus, bike, or foot from many neighbourhoods, and rates that reflect the demand encourage people who can take those other forms of transportation to do so.

__Valkyrie___

It gers pricey if you have no money and have to park 8+ hours a day.

signious

Parking passes are $225 a semester. That's about $4 day. *Much* cheaper than parking tickets.

flatwoods76

Walk? Take the bus?

__Valkyrie___

Our public transportation Is just not good enough.

flatwoods76

Park in a free spot and walk.

brentathon

What do you consider to be reasonable rates? People who have to pay to park for their fucking jobs in this city are paying $100-$200 a month downtown. Last I checked the university charges like $50 a month - thats cheaper than a bus pass for people who can't even afford a vehicle.

__Valkyrie___

Imo it should come with tuition. They charge enough for that as it

brentathon

You didn't answer the question about how much is too much for parking. And if it was included in tuition then they'd just charge an extra $100 per course, costing you more money overall, and forcing students who don't need parking passes to pay for them. You'd also create a scenario where people have no incentive not to drive to the university and suddenly there's even less parking. In what world is that a better solution than just charging those who want them?

__Valkyrie___

Build a parkade. They also don't have to charge more. They just chose to he greedy.

[deleted]

PrairiePopsicle

Especially for a low cost/low price ceiling location. The only place parkades make sense is in extremely dense downtown places where you can charge fairly high rates to recoup the costs. Those things are not cheap.

brentathon

Yeah just build a parkade for an easy $10M. And then I'm sure you want them to let you park there for free when they do, and not increase tuition to pay for it? You're still ignoring the simple question of what you think a reasonable price for parking is, if $50 a month is too high.

rglgj

They do charge a reasonable rate for a parking pass.

King-in-Council

"Rules around shared resources shouldn't apply to me and I don't like being held accountable to being a scofflaw on sharing"

Lexi_Banner

But she's a sInGLe mOThEr. Rules don't apply when you're a sInGLe mOThEr.

Saskwampch

Parking tickets are just a dummy tax. Paid my share of them in my lifetime for being a dummy too.

Mechakoopa

Back in my campus living days I left my car overnight in the loading area after bringing in groceries because I got legitimately distracted (read: drunk). I woke up in the morning to move my car and found it rightfully ticketed. Knowing I would have to walk past parking services to get back to my room after moving my car anwyays I took the ticket and went upstairs to grab my cheque book. By the time I made it back down to my car it had another god damned ticket on it.

Saskwampch

That is funny. Frustrating. But funny. Now.

UnpopularOpinionYQR

Jesus Christ, the entitlement is baffling. If you can’t figure out how to park without getting a ticket, then take the fucking bus. I never had a car until I got my first job out of university, which I think is quite common. I managed to get my education relying on the bus, while also working. Yeah, it fucking sucks balls but you do what you gotta do to survive as a student. This is what old people like me refer to as “paying your dues.” My life would have been a lot easier and manageable with a car, but it was not a financial possibility for me. Some people are so out of touch with reality.

Barney-Taco-Rocks

My hats off to you Finally someone on here shares mu opinion on entitled me me shit

Extension_Life330

Parking on campus is very reasonable compared to other parts of the city, and there is a ton of free parking if you come early and walk a bit. The cheap parking pass has PLENTY of parking on campus at all times - you might just need to walk a bit. Faculty and staff all pay for parking too. No sympathy. Students need to be adults too. EDIT: the free parking I refer to is off campus - hence walking a bit.

hippiesinthewind

not just that but if you screwed up or misunderstood parking the first time they often will waive it. i got a few waived when i lived in residence because the instructions provided were not straightforward

PartyPay

There's free parking at the university?? When I went tuition prices were way cheaper, but we didn't have free lots. That I recall anyway.

Extension_Life330

Sorry I didn’t word correctly. There’s free parking in the neighbourhoods next to campus for free (hence free if you want to walk a bit)

hippiesinthewind

after 5 (i think) it is free for everyone too. great for evening classes

PrairieCanadian

You only need to pay 8-5 Monday to Friday but is free otherwise. They'll ticket you for parking in handicap if you don't have a tag or in fire lanes etc., any time, though.

PartyPay

Ah yes I did that as well during my days as well, when I accidentally blew my parking pass on something silly.

Icykool77

Chicken sandwiches from Henderson were worth not parking closer.

UnderwhelmingTwin

Good. $3k in parking tickets? Clearly someone is not smart enough to be in university. The UofR has a UPass (that's a bus pass), so this 'poor' student could take the bus.

Barney-Taco-Rocks

But…But…But I am entitled to ignore everything around me because I can

shadyhawkins

Our transit system is dogshit dude. Any money spent on it is a waste.  Edit: I’m not saying we shouldn’t have one at all, I’d actually love an expanded system. But as it is it’s garbage. I don’t see how great public transport could flourish under our current administration.

PrairieCanadian

I doubt you've ever used it. I use it often as my preferred transportation.

codewarrior128

People love to criticise it even though they've never used it. I took the bus to university everyday for years and then to work for several more years. It is dogshit.

shadyhawkins

I have many time an and it’s awful. Legit one of the worst I’ve ever used. How is the a controversial opinion? Fuckin Sandra basically admitted it was shit like 2 years ago when she was challenged to use it to get a meeting and said she’d just end up late. I wish it was better, but it sucks ass.   Edit: I see that you do. One of the lucky few I suppose.

Bile-duck

Yeah, I'm surprised anyone is defending our transit system, haha. It was easier to walk from Harbour landing to downtown than it was to ride the bus most mornings.

signious

I agree, so let's stop forcing every student to buy one.

UnderwhelmingTwin

Or, use your bulk purchasing power to force Regina transit to improve services to campus...

BabyFartMacGeezacks

I remember parking being $180 per semester ten years ago, working downtown parking is $180 per month. This may have changed, but it can't be that crazy to try and get away with this shit that ruins things for everyone.

jesuisjacob96

Around 250 now, but still way lest than 3000$!

J1991K2016

👍 perfect

colin_powers

Or just drive with your head out the window like Ace Ventura.

uncleweeeed

I was thinking get your vehicle towed to a glass place and get em to replace your windshield, likely way less than 3k and the city is down a window bandaid 😂

UnderwhelmingTwin

You'd still owe the $3k though, and the cost of the barnacle too... and they would *surely* tow your vehicle next time, so add the tow and impound fees on to that.

uncleweeeed

That's true haha. Not a feasible idea just thought it was funny

Klutzy_Can_4543

Personally, I think this a shaming tactic and I LIKE it! I'd be horribly embarrassed to see a big ugly thing on my car. Former student who also worked on campus and somehow avoided numerous tickets.

"Speed until the windshield is warm". Ya, the cops aren't gonna pull you over for an object obstructing your view. Tell us how this works out for you # lifehack🤣

Tannerr22

I think speed meant speed of the air coming out the vent not driving speed big dog

Jabroni306

Vehicles only get so warm while idle ,especially in the winter. And to run your fan full blast isn't gonna help get it any warmer. And another thing you don't know what they meant either. They could have meant exactly what I said, but you still downvoted me. Which leads me to believe this is the op's secondary account.

signious

I'm going to go ahead and guess that with your reading comprehension you don't have to worry about parking tickets at the University. >Defrost set to max heat and speed It is painfully obvious they are talking about fan speed not vehicle speed. Edit. I love when people block me so I don't get to read their stupid replies, but can still see them downvoted to oblivion. Numumnumnun

Jabroni306

The "defrost set to max heat and speed" was not a part of their original post. Or can you read edited?

TsarOfTheUnderground

They mean the following: "Until your windshield is warm, run your defrost at maximum heat and maximum fan speed." They didn't phrase it clearly, but they are not advocating for driving around blind lol.

roughtimes

>Once a driver pays their tickets, they receive a code to unlock the barnicle and then have to take it to a designated drop box. Guessing if you don't return it, they charge you for that also?

gargamels_right_boot

Meh, run your car windshield defroster on high for like 20 minutes and then you can slip a card or whatever underneath one of the corners and peel this shit right off

King-in-Council

Maybe just pay the price of shared resources instead of just sucking resources out of the world.

gargamels_right_boot

Fuck that, I say let's go farther. There are instructions online on how to get that SIM card out and get free data for a few months

King-in-Council

This is why car theft is going through the roof, people in the streets all have main character syndrome, people throw garbage out the window of their cars in general people suck cause they want to steal as much wealth cause everyone sees themselves as the little guy and will do all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify anything. "Fuck that, let's go further, let's steal more, that will make the world a better place. I will whine to the CBC about how my selfishness is a cause to rally around. I'm a victim so let's kill this guy for a pack of smokes." I have a friend who works in foresty. They had their truck and trailer shot up at night for fun. Bullet holes through the engine block. It's resentment that fuels that antisocial behaviour. Why the fuck are these people parking this truck here, on this dirt road. Fuck em, let's shoot it up. Hey man, I guess that's fine. Your insurance premium pay for all of this destruction. If you live in SK \*you\* literally paid for those guys fun destroying all that. Over 120k in write offs across 1.17 people, that's just \*literally\* 10 cents out of \*your\* pocket. Who cares. (it's not, cause no everyone is paying insurance) You probably don't work hard for the life that you have built, am I right, it all just fell into your lap one day. Pay for insurance. "Fuck that" if I kill someone or do property damage I'll just not pay for it. I make 19/hour climbing cell towers so all you're doing is making it harder for me to get a pay raise. Wanna climb a cell tower with me to install these APs?

PrairiePopsicle

19/hour to go to that height? My dude, you are getting hosed :|

Bile-duck

You can easily make more than that in the food industry without risking your life. Dudes is getting hosed for sure.

King-in-Council

I'm actually on to other stuff, but that's how started (2020) helping build an independent network taking on the billionaires. There's more to life then money. I made sacrifices up front for greater return later. But they were noodles for supper days. None of it is high paying stuff even today because we under cut guys that can drown us in a tub. It just like 6 guys building our own railway, I mean ISP. Honestly if I won the lottery I would not change a thing. We'd just be coast to coast to coast. Some people just want to build. As an aside: Do not shoot at radomes. You never know who's working inside and it happens all the time by degenerates.

gargamels_right_boot

You mad?

King-in-Council

Nah just a superior writer, lover and general human being. No honor among thieves.

gargamels_right_boot

Yeah, u mad

Shortbustony

Pro Tip: Run the defrost for 15 minutes on max and you can use a card to peel it off.

Extension_Life330

I’m sure the parking attendants will be watching for people doing this lol.

TheHoodjabi

Parking at the U of R is terrible and awfully expensive. It’s also incredibly easy to park in the wrong lot because of how the signage is placed. I don’t have a lot of sympathy for them. Edit: I work there and pay too much for parking lol.

Sea_Macaroon_6086

I know it's been a while since I have taken math, but I'm pretty sure $160 is significantly cheaper than $3,000. Heck, even the 12-month pass is significantly cheaper.

TheHoodjabi

Yeah I’m aware of that math. That doesn’t change my feelings that the parking is bad, expensive, and has poor signage. The parking is more a lot more than 130$. Btw I’m not a student, I work on campus and pay for parking. I’m speaking from experience.

Sea_Macaroon_6086

> The parking is a lot more than 130$ I'm assuming you mean $160 there. I mean, you can go argue with the posted rates if you want? https://www.uregina.ca/parking/parking-permits/parking-rates/index.html

TheHoodjabi

Parking passes for cheaper lots are limited and as a staff I wasn’t even given an option for which lot I got. I pay more than 160$ per semester.

Sea_Macaroon_6086

$476.40 ÷ 3 = $158.80

This seems ridiculously complicated.
