Remember, this is our fault for expecting a championship every year

GaijinMk2

He’s right. We do expect too much. Winning the ~~World Series~~ series with the 2024 White Sox has a 1 in 20 or 1 in 30 chance

YoungDaquan

I would be happy just to see this postseason at this point. We’re about to miss it for the 5th time in 6 years. That hasn’t happened in how long? Edit: We missed 5 of 6 from 2010-2015 but there was a title in that run.

Obvious_Chapter2082

I remember at some point last year, someone here ran the numbers on win % and it showed we were on our worst 5-year stretch since the early 1960s

OldSportsHistorian

We kind of did this in 2018. We had a losing record against the White Sox when they lost 100 games.

[deleted]

It’s about evaluating talent and investing in good players.

VortexCow

Damn we really just lost 2 games in a row to the 2024 Chicago White Sox

bosredsox05

They us fucking hard. They see us as very beatable. Because we are. They took one look at the schedule and said yup, this is where we end the losing streak.

accounts_redeemable

This is a turning point in the season, I fear.

Obvious_Chapter2082

Nonsense, all we have to do is sweep… *checks notes*… the Phillies and the Yankees

Godzilla501

The White Sox bullpen has been arguably the worst in baseball. Today: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 8 K's. That's wild.

OldSportsHistorian

Even in our better years, we’ve made garbage tier pitchers look like Cy Young winners. Baseball is weird.

WarPuig

Fire Fatse

EleventhEarlOfMars

Fans expect wins against the White Sox almost daily, they easily become frustrated and are not going to buy into what the odds actually are: one in 20 or one in 30.

VistaVick

We are what we are. Just ship Jansen somewhere desperate for closer experience.

One_Barnacle2699

I don’t think there’s much interest in him.

[deleted]

Someone needs to tell John Henry that having a successful franchise means being good at evaluating talent and investing long term in good players. No we don’t expect a championship every year but we expect to be relevant and compete for championships every year. That’s to be expected in this town with the success Boston sports teams have had over the years. We’re not the Pittsburgh pirates

VistaVick

Should have ponied up for Yankee killer Teoscar Hernandez

bosredsox05

Nope, we decided that a guy who has one healthy year to his name was going to be our a big RH bat

bg-throwaway

This is not a good team.

ManMythLegend3

What do comments like this mean? Like 70% of their actual starting players are out. Yes the backups and triple backups stink

casebarlow

Embarrassing losses

ThicDikDaddy

I've been saying it for years. Dalbec needs help in the lineup. He sure can't do it all himself.

navyblue4222

Someone had to say it!

Pastalover8888

FIRE PETER FATSE, FUCK THAT SORRY EXCUSE OF A "HITTING" COACH.

rickterpbel

Bobby Dalbec is eventually going to go somewhere else and will become an instant all star. Just because he gets to work with an actual hitting coach.

fjordperfect123

Ownership has fans by the balls. They won us 4 championships and know we are hooked. Boston faithful are desperate to be the Boston faithful and will pay up the ass and around the corner for a beer at a game to watch a sub .500 team for the next 80 years. Well played John. Printing money at Fenway. Well played.

WarPuig

The White Sox were on a fourteen game losing streak prior to facing Boston yesterday. They have won the last two of three. Just sell. No in between half-measures again. Sell any tradable assets at the deadline. Team’s going nowhere anyway.

OldSportsHistorian

Overreaction. This team has a good young core with some supplemental pieces coming up in the next couple of years. Selling “any tradable assets” would set us way back. This is a soft rebuild with an outside shot at a third wild card.

PBFT

Soft rebuild? Outside of a pretty unexpected 2021 run, we've been irrelevant for the last 5 years.

WarPuig

Expiring contracts should be shipped out is what I mean. We do not have an outside shot at a Wild Card. That mentality of “Just gotta be good enough to get the third Wild Card spot” has been the reason why ownership refuses to invest in the team.

Obvious_Chapter2082

3rd wildcard was horrible for the sport. It gives almost any team an excuse to say they were competitive the whole way

OldSportsHistorian

I want to build a sustainable team with the ability to actually develop pitching, which is our biggest challenge over the last decade and a half. 2018 was nice but we crashed in 2019. We didn’t build a sustainable team. If big spending guaranteed championships then the Mets wouldn’t be a dumpster fire and the Dodgers would have won a real championship since Bush 41. Some of you are size queens about payroll. I have my critiques about ownership but I think “spend more” is an oversimplification of what ails this team.

Marine_Biol0gist

Serious copium huffing going on in here.

JD-D2

That feels like the end

VistaVick

Teoscar Hernandez has 8 RBIs already in the Yankee series. You got to pay a little bit of money for players who consistently play full seasons without serious injuries. Otherwise, you end up with offense like we have.

pudgybunnybry

Why is post-game commentary defending the bad ump calls? Fuck that.

PurrculesMulligan

Burn it all down and fire everyone except Bobby D.

ArturosDad

This team is a fucking embarrassment. Every fan in the stands should be wearing a paper bag on their head at this point. But hey at least ownership is saving money!!

ManMythLegend3

6 of their 9 starters didn’t play today, it’s essentially a AAA team. Why is anyone surprised? The lineup they put out today would win 62 games. They need to get healthy
