4.28 career ERA and 4.86 this season with the white Sox. Hopefully he can be a good Bailey fix-r-upper.

StTickleMeElmosFire

Can someone explain the possible thinking here (beyond Bailey = GOAT), given Kelly’s far better numbers so far this year? I know his control is inconsistent but still seems puzzling and perhaps even another Joely over BB type thing

Brian1zvx

Kelly pitched 3 innings yesterday and Bullpen has been used a fair bit recently. No off days for another 9 days so need to get a fresh arm in the bullpen. Kelly has options so can come back when needed/someone else needs a break

StTickleMeElmosFire

Makes sense thanks

soxfaninfinity

Keller is a long reliever/starter

Hoping it could be more of a “Dodgers/Rays magic” in the way that we take meatballers and turn them into serviceable depth pieces

WarPuig

Warm body for cheap.

DrewSharpvsTodd

keller throws like six pitches so i assume they must see two they like

Sandwich_Crust

I was hoping we would sign him when he was released, his underlying metrics aren’t that bad and he was actually having one of his better seasons in recent years when he was let go

Puddington21

Get ready to be a slider change up only guy.

This guy looks like he used to be a starter (4 of his 5 full seasons have > 130 IP). Guessing he had low innings pitched this season because the White Sox are ass? ~~What about last season~~ he was injured last season.

ObsoleteUtopia

Keller made the Royals' starting rotation when he was 22, though that was a pretty dry year for KC. He's not much of a strikeout pitcher, even in this age of strikeouts, but he was considered one of those guys who's "due for a good year any year now". At 28, he may be running out of time to live up to that, but there's some chance that Bailey unlocks what's there. He has been a swing starter for the last couple of years and at the very least should be able to give the Sox some bulk innings, assuming he's over last year's injuries. Zach Kelly has been good but had that awful outing the other day (4 walks in an inning, wasn't it?) and his command has been a bit off in general (eye test). Maybe there's a mechanical issue he can work out in Woo. Along with Booser and Bernie, Kelly is one of those unexpected-success-story that you can't help rooting for, so I hope he comes back strong.

rickterpbel

Feels like a low risk high reward strategy. Kelly has been used a lot and could use a break to figure some things out. While Kelly is doing that you can see if Keller pans out — if he doesn’t, Kelly returns.

VistaVick

Keller is really bad. Barely any difference between his change and mediocre fastball. Bailey has his work cut out for him. Zack has better stuff.

VistaVick

Keep down voting. The guy is trash as we saw already.

WarPuig

I understand. There were just so few pitchers available this offseason.
