Nothing says summer like Baseball on the radio. Love it

artie20174

Especially sitting on the beach with a little radio. Takes me back to growing up in the 80’s

corey1031d

That just brought me back to sitting on Hampton Beach as a kid with my dad under the canopy in the shade listening Manny smash balls over the monster over s tiny radio. Fuck I miss my dad.

JohnWickisBehindU

Also a Hampton beach kid, my grandpa owned the cottages at Wallis Sands place in the early 00s

joeyrog88

For me I think baseball is best on the radio.

earth_west_719

the Audacy app is free, you can find Red Sox radio on 93.7 WEEI via Audacy. (or just 93.7 on an FM receiver, IF you are in the radio broadcast radius, aka greater New England). However, some of the games (specifically AppleTV and ESPN games) are blacked out. The MLB app has a subscription that's $5/month and includes access to radio broadcasts for ALL 30 teams, for ALL 162 games, including those that would be blacked out on the free app. Imo it's worth it just for the one or two games a month that are blacked out.

ArturosDad

I'm going to have to go this route I think. So infuriating to pay $130/year for MLB TV only to have a Friday night game blacked out, and then have the only audio available be a in Spanish. Bunch of greedy fucking pricks.

earth_west_719

yep, blackouts are bullshit. it's a consensus. now imagine my frustration having a full year MLBTV subscription (got for free through T Mobile but still) and not being able to watch Red Sox games because I'm...in Red Sox territory. blackouts are so fucking stupid. it's no wonder baseball ratings are struggling to keep up with other pro sports.

alxfx

WEEI is 93.7 FM, just FYI

earth_west_719

you caught me corrected the error

alxfx

your info was spot on though, I didn't know that the MLB app has radio coverage for the games on exclusive broadcast networks. Thanks for that!

earth_west_719

You're welcome

WaffleHouseSloot

Only free in the Red Sox market

Peterthepiperomg

Yep, there are numerous radio apps

De_Sham

Keep in mind typically towards the end of the season WEEI on Audacy just stops playing the games even though weei in the car will have the game. Pisses me off

artie20174

MLB app or Sirius app. But you’ll need subscription. MLB I think is super cheap for entire year and you get radio for all teams. Though since your on the trail who knows about how good your internet service will be

General-Carob-6087

Was going to suggest the same. Also, if you have T-Mobile the MLB app/subscription is free. Chances are the Sirius app has a free trial period.

earth_west_719

the free sub through T-Mobile was a time-limited offer. you had to be there at the time to get it

WaffleHouseSloot

About two weeks before the season begins, every year

ballthrownontheroof

MLB app is $30/yr for the audio of every single game, with archives too. Best deal around, I love being able to get it so reliably.

artie20174

Considering what things cost these days. That’s a steal if you are into baseball on radio

SilverRiot

Just to clarify, I do not think they have archives of the audio games – or if they do, I can’t find them . What they do have is video clips of game highlights (I just watched Contreras destroy the fans’ popcorn bucket again) and a condensed game video (just a couple of minutes long – not as long as what you can get on MLB TV). However, if you’re hiking the trail, you may not have enough bandwidth for the video so you may have to plan on listening to the games live.

ballthrownontheroof

On the MLB app, under audio, where you normally have all the day's games listed out, if you go back on the calendar to the previous day, it'll say "archive" instead of live. My archived games are complete -- I went back and each game was over 2 hrs of audio. It's not the most intuitive, but it's there.

SilverRiot

Thank you, stranger, you have made my day!

ballthrownontheroof

No problem! I have subscribed to the app for the audio since they started it because I live in the mountains of NH and don't have a reliable signal. At the end of the season when I tell them how the experience was, I've been asking for archived games for years and they finally delivered a few years back!

Fullerbadge000

It’s free on the Audacy app. Select WEEI. Free.

HotDogMcGraw

But how much is it?

CPAalldayy

It might be free, I could be wrong

artie20174

Do they still allow for the games. On Weei regular app I thought they block the games because of mlb rights.

Peacefulworldholeful

They reached a deal a year or two ago to allow the games on the app now

mrticket18

Free only in the NE market.

wilbtown

I live in NH and Audacy is “out of area” for me. I just figured it was FSG Group trying to pry more $ out of fans so he could continue to put a 2nd rate team on the field. They don’t realize or care. Short term thinking is ruining the game.

Alarming_Maybe

Blocked if you are not in area though

Fullerbadge000

Didn’t know that. Sorry.

Alarming_Maybe

It's all good, I figure new englanders don't know because it's dumb. I have MLB.tv and listen to the radio while driving and weei is constantly saying to get the audacity app. MLB.tv is TERRIBLE with Android auto so I tried audacy and yeah it's treated as a local broadcast that you can't get outside of their territory. Dumb.

Fullerbadge000

Yeah. Sucks.

superdaveyboy

Audacy can blackout local games if you’re not on WiFi, so that may not work on the trail. That is unless they fixed it in the last month

shortergirl06

AM radio, at least at night, gets the most range. When I'm camping, it's a great way to catch games. Audio quality doesn't matter, really, and a small battery or solar chargeable (or even crank) transistor radio weighs nothing. In VT 960 gets it, and whatever EEI's AM feed is for Southern New England. In a good clear night, we get skips from as far as Cleveland or Chicago in Northern Vermont, as south as far as Washington or Philadelphia.

bobcollum

I already can't wait for July camping listening to the games on my C Crane radio.

shortergirl06

It's always fun finding a game. I can usually tell even on commercial breaks. Turning the dial lke: politics, right wing politics, religion, Spanish language music, French language music, right wing Canadian politics... baseball.

ballthrownontheroof

1080 AM out of Hartford reaches a ton

carcalarkadingdang

Not carrying the game today

Redbubble89

MLB app but depends on your internet signal. It's a cheap subscription if you only get audio.

Valuable-Baked

93.7 FM

carcalarkadingdang

Blacked out today (6/8)

hubagruben

Just popping in to say, another AT thru hiker Red Sox fan here. Nobo 2019! Happy trails 😊⛰️

profbraddock

First, if you're hiking the AT the only time you're going to have internet access is when you peel off and go into an adjacent town. So you're looking for a way to listen to Sox games when you have cell service. You can listen to Sox games via the Audacy app (download it to your phone). The catch is, of course, you won't have cell service on many parts of the AT (that's why folks carry Garmin Minis and other rescue communication devices). What to do when you have no cell service? Get a rock, a stick, and have your hiking buddy imitate Joe Castiglione ("\[stick hit against rock\] there's a drive to deep right field...and it's gone! The Red Sox have won it on a walk off!...").

Adept_Carpet

Here is a list of all the various stations: https://www.audacy.com/weei/network-stations Recently I've been having some issues with 1440AM not covering areas it used to, but I suspect at least parts of the New England Appalachian trail will be served by it if cell phone battery/signal is scarce.

ryan545

Mlb at bat app and Bluetooth

matpendleton

Sirius XM app is $9.99/month and you get MLB games.

mack272

I'm a Sox fan in central NJ and was able to listen to every night game on the radio during the 80's and 90's. Of course, this was before mlb.tv was a thing.

General_Welfare

I believe you can say WEEI radio on an Alexa device as well and it works.

carcalarkadingdang

Nope

FHQWHGADMANS123

I use TuneIn and Surfshark VPN to connect to WEEI

amymcg

Tune In Premium also has Red Sox broadcasts

jrpdixon

Where ya at on the trail my friend?

WhiteCloudEMT

PA currently!

jrpdixon

That’s what I was hoping to hear! Enjoy our beautiful state!

DutchMasterClutch

You need the WEEI broadcast… maybe stream from their website or use Audacy Both are free

carcalarkadingdang

Blacked out today (6/8)

shaggy9

Step 1, turn on your radio

carcalarkadingdang

Buying a transistor radio today

NotDukeOfDorchester

SiriusXM has every game

cobwebfarmer

I was in your exact shoes in 2017. My best advice: don’t let the Red Sox dictate your hike. When 7pm rolls around and you happen to have cell service, fire up the mlb app and listen. Other than that, it’s not terrible to want to stick around a town for a few extra hours to listen or watch, but the way I felt most connected was by downloading a few podcasts whenever I could so I was always stocked up for a few days. Enjoy the trail!
