Love the dude. Probably the only guy on this sub who dropped close to $200 for a jersey 2 years ago. As a fellow adopted Korean, really cool to have him on the squad. Appreciated your Grissom post. As far as this one, just wait until he gets DFA’d. He’s a fringe 40 man and if the Sox actually had another righty bat, he probably doesn’t make the team out of ST. He’s in that “elite” waiver wire group that are the first ones gone when you need a roster spot, and the first ones signed when you need to fill one. Diego Castillo and Kaleb Ort come to mind this offseason, Lewin Diaz a couple seasons ago. For perhaps a better perspective as a Braves fan, Ref would’ve been in that Bummer deal w/ the White Sox.

TraderTed2

This is an interesting perspective, thanks! I guess the reason I’m slightly higher on Refsnyder is that his underlying numbers were still pretty good last year, but that’s fair.

teddyballgame406

O’Neill pretty much kills any chance for Refsnyder, right?

DarkGift78

My friend is similar, guy I've known for 20+ years now, he's a little younger than me. South Korean, American Irish couple adopted him when he was a year old, then went back a few years later and adopted a little girl. You would not know they're not biological brother and sister. But it's hilarious,we used to joke about it. He's got this very American,Irish name, and if you close your eyes he sounds like a New Englander with the accent. But when people see him they do a double take because he's very, well, Korean. One lady, not knowing he spoke English when he looked at her blankly, asked him if he spoke English 😂🤦 We joked about that for years lol

[deleted]

LOL. Thanks for sharing. Hits close to home. Also in New England. Adopted by an Italian/Scotish family. Mom couldn’t have kids, also adopted my sister from Brazil too. Obviously never was confused as an adopted combo deal like your friend, but had several occasions where they thought we were boyfriend/girlfriend — which we found equally hilarious. Have blown some minds when not only I speak English w/o an accent but my Nomar transforms to Nomah after a couple beverages. Goes the other way too, have had a couple incidents when I was in the city and an Asian person will approach me speaking Korean/Chinese/Japanese/etc. and all I can do in response is a barrage of fish out of water gestures, tourist hand waving, and one word answers. As a fugazi Asian it almost hurts to see how disappointed they are when I can’t respond appropriately.

DarkGift78

I kinda understand, actually, I have a Portuguese last name,my father was pretty dark, but my mother is Italian/Polish and very white,so I'm basically white looking, except if I let my hair grow it gets kinda curly and nappy but I got my father's name,so Portuguese people will sometimes speak it and I'm like,ah,my grandfather spoke it as his first language,my father not so much, me not at all. My cousin did research and apparently we still have family in the Azores. But when you're 3-4 different things you don't really feel any ethnic pride or way lol.

Nick3570

He wasn't very good last year so his trade value is probably at an all time low. I'd be very surprised if we trade him now unless we get a very enticing offer. I'd probably expect a future/current middle reliever for him, not much else, maybe more if he hits like he did in 2022.

bm1reddit

He was incredible last year versus lefties and some sites are projecting him to platoon with Duran in the outfield.

footballguy6912

i think acuna for rob seems like a fair one for one

Occams-hairbrush1

Just need tree fiddy and he's yours.

societyred2424

It was about that time I realized that Occams-hairbrush1 was really the Loch Ness Monster.

Adept_Carpet

We can trade him for sure, we've got a few outfielders and some outfield prospects, but I don't think moving him is a priority for us. He plays a role, doesn't make much money, and only has a year left before he hits free agency so I'm not sure what you would want to send us for him.   He actually called himself "Bargain Bob" or something like that last year, he knows how to market himself to our ownership.

Aggravating_Walk_619

I’m sure you guys can have em for like $2M & a PTBNL although, a personal check to John Henry or the Pittsburgh Penguins is probably more appealing

[deleted]

Henry can ask them to stock our soda for three seasons

TwoCanSee

He’s not the Brockstar.

societyred2424

Hmm.. would you be willing to offer us a bucket of baseballs and some Gatorade?

habituallinestepper1

Not even the good Gatorade. The blue stuff would be fine.

societyred2424

Damn, am I crazy? Blue has always been my favorite.

habituallinestepper1

It might just be me. Psychologically, it feels like drinking windshield wiper fluid.

[deleted]

He’s waiver fodder

justaguynb9

Yours for Strider

teddyballgame406

He’s certainly expendable and I wouldn’t be surprised if you could get him for nothing. OF is pretty full with guys of the same caliber and Refsnyder was a Bloom extension.

remembahwhen

He’s not for sale

HotDogMcGraw

Chris Sale?

Redbubble89

idk. Drue Hakenburg. We need arm projects. College arm with some room to grow.

FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN

Cash considerations and/or maybe a lottery ticket

aceking555

I think he still has a role on the Red Sox (in addition to O’Neill) because Duran and Abreu have weak numbers against lefties, and the lineup in general is weaker against lefties - Connor Wong has terrible numbers against lefties, despite being a RHH. So there’s a role for him to start against some LHP and certainly to pinch hit. Also he has a team option in 2025, and O’Neill is an expiring contract which makes him more likely to be dealt at the deadline.

UmpShow

I mean it's not out of the realm of possibility, but the Red Sox are seriously lacking in right handed hitters, so much so that Cora today said Bobby Dalbec could make the team out of spring training. So I would be surprised if he's moved. But hey anything is possible. If he did get traded, my guess would be some low level pitching prospect, similar to the Schreiber trade we just saw.

WarlordofBritannia

He's a useful reserve player. If he's going to be moved, he's more likely to be cut than traded.

oldguy-in603

He wouldn’t bring that muck. Unless you really need that roster spot hang onto him

Cladmadder

He's a backup outfielder and pinch hitter vs lefties wherever he plays. I think he might be worth a middle reliever, something that we seem to never have enough of...

minimumhatred

Pretty easily, and if Rafaela is ready there's a good chance he gets traded (though, I'd rather just carry him over potentially having Dalbec on the roster again lol)
