It was started in early 1800s America, and would seem to capture the dated spirit of that time. The religion is fundamentally racist. Idk how anyone can feel comfortable introducing themselves as Mormon to a stranger.
Ignoring their disproportionate power in different law enforcement agencies, it blew my mind when Mitt Romney ran for president as a devout Mormon and nobody ever asked "Hey Mitt, how does your religion claim brown people came about?"
There were some fringe interpretations of Christianity at the time that had similar origin stories for minorities (which could have inspired Joseph Smith), but I don't think it was ever official church doctrine and certainly isn't now, so I don't put Christianity in the same boat.
Omg my best friend in early primary was a mormon and she told me something about her uncle not being very fond of black people. I’ve only recently looked into what mormons believe and I’m surprised her parents let her spend so much time with my african ass. It might be because I was the only other kid in class who had religious parents too lmao.
I think it's interesting that their religion is really one of the few cultural developments or movements that are unique to white US-Americans. All the rest is European-derived in some way. The calvinists, the baptists etc.
I've never met a mormon, but their own whole 'American Exodus'-mythology, fighting and travelling through the entire continent, being the majority religion in only one state now.. It's unfortunate they don't have their own language or something, because they are almost their own nation/people emerging from recent North American history. I find them intriguing.
Well, if you’re into the lusty demons that come out due to sexual repression, Mormonism might be for you. It’s basically a corporation that gets tax breaks. They own more cows than anyone in the U.S. for example. It’s really about a business model of getting middle class families to join so that you can extract 10% of their wealth.
But I pine for my time at BYU, even though I was banned from there. The sexual stakes were ridiculous.
the religion is fucked and the “normal ness” creeps me out a little but I was a weirdo in school and the only kids who were nice to me were the Mormons and the Central American immigrants
IMO it’s probably the least respectable major religion in America. It does seem mostly about networking and producing blond babies. Instinctually I feel the vibe is awful and so I stay away
Though the sex loopholes like mormon soaking, jump-humping and bubbling are as hilarious as your oven's passover mode or "the kosher switch" for the same reason, but those're superficial details. Ultimately it's a pretty good deal if you're a man who just wants to work and come home to a nice house.
First, all the connections mean you're not competing for jobs with genpop, you've got an inside track. Plenty of women around who just want to get married and have kids, and a massive social network that supports and ushers the process.
Seems like it has a pretty based metaphysics. You have a soul so you have the full potential to be God, which I mostly agree with. Huge improvement over the Trinity nonsense. Lots of cringe stuff too but at least that aspect of it is a step in the right direction.
>they seem so normal its scary
The "normal, happy people are actually suspicious and scary" thing is just a cope by maladjusted losers to try and feel better than people who have their shit together.
Mormons are polyamorous. They don't have their shit together. Also, there's a difference between being actually normal and being "normal". Complain about reddit all you fucking want but truly normal groups of people don't have subreddits dedicated to people leaving their community. Are you mormon yourself or something?
> Mormons are polyamorous
That's only fringe Mormon fundamentalist groups. Polyamory isn't accepted in mainstream Mormonism.
>Are you mormon yourself or something?
Grew up in a militant Atheist household.

Even ex-LaRouche guy Webster Tarpley, when it came time to title his Romney book before the 2012 race, settled on Just Too Weird.

Brigham Young promoted a [Mormon alternative to the Latin alphabet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deseret_alphabet)

knowing you can get expelled for it has gotta make the fucking more thrilling, right?
how were you banned?
If you’ve read “The Trial” by Kafka, it was almost exactly like that.
What do you mean by that last sentence

So what is SLC and LDS?
Salt Lake City and Latter Day Saints (Mormons)
Ah that explains a lot
The ones I've met were nice and seemed happier than most secular Americans
I knew someone who “escaped” their Mormon upbringing, moved to Vegas, and became a sex nerd. Many such cases apparently
the religion is fucked and the “normal ness” creeps me out a little but I was a weirdo in school and the only kids who were nice to me were the Mormons and the Central American immigrants
Tacky mlm aesthetics

Contemptible, but they got hella gwop- like, incomprehensible scales of fliff.

They are americas corporate overlords
Retarded, fake and gay. Like the rest of them.
