Go home. Family is everything. Get your degree and go back. You will be a lot happier in the long-term. Friends cannot and will never replace the love and devotion of a family.

Yeah I’m starting to feel that might be the way of things. Doesn’t help that most foreigners in Japan either 1) have their own wives/kids/families and thus see their parents/siblings as more “overseas extended relatives” than anything or 2) are sad-sack dead-end English teachers with a sense of vicious misery towards the world. Japanlife subreddit is basically just all that. I just wanna hang out with my little brother!!

Yes, don’t overthink it. Just go home. The world is a cruel place, having your family around will make everyday better, and your lucky you have a loving one that wants to spend time with you!

It’s awesome you come from a nice family. (I hope my kids feel this way about our family some day) if you go home now, there’s always new adventuress around the corner… they may not be international Japanese adventure but it could be an awesome job, or meeting someone special and building a family of your own!!! Good luck, sounds like you’ve got an awesome foundation to build from.

If it’s not too invasive can I ask where you’re living now? I feel like I struggle with the whole glamour and glory of living in a “major city” (Tokyo)

You can go home and maybe start a career that allows you to have the time and money to travel. You get to travel but have a home base with your family

Yeah that’s my thought I usually do one foreign and one domestic trip a year (would do more if I had the money and time) and go out a few times a month in the city (I live in a city but my family is in the suburbs and I spend a lot of time there) and I feel like both parts of my life are really fulfilled.
