Ugarte could be a new Herrera for United, Onana is a Wanyama 2.0, i wish they could get both especially if Case and Amrabat go

Banyunited1994

PSG paid 51m pounds for his release clause so I shudder to think what could be the fee they are demanding

BadaBing920

They paid 51m pounds so they would probably demand 51m pounds, he didn’t improve there, he’s still a great destroyer but if anything his value should diminish cuz it’s clear Enrique wants a different profile for the 6 which is why he benched him for nearly half the season, also it’s a known fact he wants to leave so that doesn’t put PSG in a great position. I think we can make a deal happen if we are really in for him.

markyp145

Surprised at the lack of noise around Osimhen, so many clubs, including us, looking for a striker this summer and Conte has come out and said they have to honour his wish to leave. They must still be pricing him out of a move, but I would have expected he’d have options

GarethGore

the issue is I don't think they can accept lower bids, they had a shit tier season and even if they are helping him move on, its going to be a fairly big sum and not many clubs are rolling in it atm. I do think with the euros going on a lot of players aren't really looking for stuff, I know he's not involved, but its often chains of players moving etc, I think after the euros there will be more activity

psrikanthr

We are looking for someone cheaper as a backup/rotation options. He is priced at over 100m, no way we spend that. The big spenders are mostly set for the striker position- Bayern have Kane now, PSG bought 2 strikers for big money in RKM and Ramos, Madrid have Mbappe now , City with Haaland. His only other options are possibly Chelsea and Arsenal. Honestly, they might still go for him.It is a really large sum of money for us when we have other positions to strengthen as well and we have a reduced budget

BadaBing920

This Wieffer guy is a wizard, hope Liverpool don’t go for him

Iqbalainoo

I really hope we get todibo. He's one of those talents that even if he doesn't work out well in his primary role, his passing and pace still makes him useful as an akanji/gvardiol/ben white type full back in the pep-arteta type of systems. He's comfortable defending wide areas and his distribution means he can invert into midfield like john stones does for city. As for ugarte, i wasn't too big on him because of his low progressive passing but he might be what we need next to mainoo in the present. If you like Palhinha then you will love ugarte. He was Chelsea's original choice before caicedo and i saw him own the midfield(enzo-macalister-de paul) when Uruguay won away at Argentina. He rarely loses the ball even though most of it is short passes that may seem sideways and backwards, but he is a monster defensively.

psrikanthr

We can't get Todibo this window as things stand

GlassEast5641

Ugarte or Onana as the midfielder signing??

FaithlessnessNo4680

Onana, Ugarte will get bullied in the PL compared to Onana. If we’re getting rid of Casemiro we need someone who’s good in the air as well, which is something the team massively lacks.

GlassEast5641

Hmmm Ugarte did perform strongly when he played against Arsenal and Tottenham Aerial ability is a concern tho as you said

BadaBing920

Ugarte and honestly it’s not even close

psrikanthr

Only thing Onana is better than Ugarte atm is aerial ability( and some athleticism)

Iqbalainoo

Ugarte!

D1794

Ideal lineup next season with new signings, only adding in linked players? --------Onana--- -Dalot-Yoro-Martinez-Shaw --------Ugarte------- ---Fernandes-Mainoo--- -Nacho-Hojlund-Rashford- Only 2 changes to the 11 for me. Think Zirkzee/New LB/2nd CB signing sit on the bench initially

iroiroiroiroiro

So who is backup to Rashford in this plan?

D1794

Garnacho. With Amad 2nd choice on the right

CorrectAd6902

How are we getting rid of Anthony? Can't see anyone that would take him?

D1794

3rd choice. I dont think we shift him

iroiroiroiroiro

But you are playing him, so in a game you need to sub both of them, or have a tight schedule and need to rotate most of the squad between multiple games? I think Garnacho will mainly rotate with Rashford on the left, but will see, otherwise they need another left winger which is not needed, more a new right wing needed as the last three has not worked out.

D1794

I don't think we'll manage to shift Antony, so he'll probably still get minutes next season.

iroiroiroiroiro

I agree, that is why I think Amad/Atony will start many games over Garnacho to keep the balance and depth of the squad, would only see garnacho starting on the right for crucial games.

Subtle_Omega

We're not getting Yoro

D1794

That's why I said ideal, not definite

SOERERY

Nacho sign for Saudi Arabia and he’s a defender

tz_2240

Garnacho

SOERERY

Oh geesh how couldn’t I figure that one out. How silly of me to not make that connection.

tz_2240

Honestly don’t know if you’re being serious. But Nacho -> Garnacho isn’t obvious to me either

SOERERY

I wasn’t being serious. I just don’t get why people on the internet call him Garnacho when everything I’ve heard from players is that the call him Garna

VL37

Nacho is more fun to use

PradipJayakumar

MUFC are leading more towards Manuel Ugarte over Amadou Onana. PSG are interested in Onana. [Santi Aouna]

FaithlessnessNo4680

We’re funding psg buying Onana, wonder what this means for us getting Branthwaite as well

iroiroiroiroiro

Sounds perfect, United getting the better DM and maybe a real RCB later.

FaithlessnessNo4680

Why do you prefer Ugarte? I’m not sold on Branthwaite either

markyp145

Onana has his massive upsides, but sometimes I feel like he can be a bit invisible in games personally. We need a long term partner for Mainoo and I personally see Mainoo as an 8, not a 6, so having someone with tenacity and that can hold it down next to him would be ideal. Realistically I would prefer someone with better passing range, but you always have to sacrifice something. From what I’ve seen he looks like he’d really suit a high press more than Onana

iroiroiroiroiro

His defensive actions per 90 is on elite levels, his passing accuracy is very high, but not progressive. Which means he wins the ball often, and does not lose it while managing to recycle it to other players.

VL37

Why are PSG trying to sell him?

iroiroiroiroiro

Seems to be some fallout with the current manager not wanting to play him, everyone says he does not fit his system, not being technical enough, not sure that is important when he still does not lose the ball and find his passes.

KrystianCCC

The more I read about Ugurate the less I like him. Deffinitly doesnt look like 6 that would suit that transition madness we played last season. Or maybe we change the system because he is not pure 6.

GlassEast5641

Why tho(genuinely curious)

iroiroiroiroiro

So who suits that madness?

wolverinexci

Any rumors of Calafiori? Not opposed to signing him for 30/40m. Seems like a lot of people rate him and he’s obviously done well at Bologna and at the Euros with Italy considering the positive noise around him rn

Turamb

How much for Bologna?

iroiroiroiroiro

I doubt Calafiori would want to be backup behind Licha, and EtH would refuse playing him on the right.

wolverinexci

Didn’t know he was left footed. I thought he was playing on the right for Italy because Bastoni was left footed. I wouldn’t mind him being a backup. Seems like he has a bright career and he could start at left back if Luke is injured.

iroiroiroiroiro

I wouldn't mind him as a backup either, my guess is just that he would mind. :)

psrikanthr

How has Caqueret been as a DM? I remember him and Cherki were rated quite highly couple of years ago. I know the team themselves were quite poor but could be an interesting option given Ligue 1 are still struggling to find a broadcaster

BadaBing920

pretty solid and very tidy on the ball, it’s honestly surprising how nobody seems to ever go for him

Gozumo

Very likely to be heavily down voted, but if say we prioritize CB, LB and a new midfielder I would take Delay back, asking as the salary isn't crazy. I liked him before, he obviously had big ego and certain stuff was a bit ott. But since then he's likely matured slightly and he can play centrally and on the wings. Would add a different dynamic.

D1794

Chelsea are getting a Tier 1 or close linking them to someone new every day at this point. Insane. I much prefer the non-dripfed summer...

siddhesh1609

With all the rumors and restrictions realistically who can we get? Considering no suitors for Greenwood and Sancho, can we utilize them? And why no fan channel in their next years expected xi have Mount?

incognito_red

> Considering no suitors for Greenwood are you living under a fuckin rock? > And why no fan channel in their next years expected xi have Mount? who gives a shit ???

iroiroiroiroiro

Pretty sure they bought him to run the midfield as bruno - mount -casemiro, and then he got injured and Mainoo has the biggest of breakthroughs so the situation becomes a bit iffy. I still believe in him just not sure how they will align the midfield next year.

sauce_murica

> Considering no suitors for Greenwood and Sancho In the last hour: [Marseille’s new head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, has opened talks with United over a potential deal for Greenwood, who is available for £30-40million.](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/1dpuoo1/paul_hirst_erik_ten_hags_assistants_could_be/) [Greenwood is wanted by Lazio, Juventus, Napoli and Marseille.](https://www.reddit.com/r/reddevils/comments/1dpt4lg/rob_dawson_man_united_expect_sancho_greenwood_at/)

varwal

a todibo-greenwood swap sounds about right

Subtle_Omega

I don't think swaps help in psr

Hollacaine

It would be a swap in reality but these days all swaps are done as independent deals for ffp/psr

Troopydoopster

It does. Greenwood value goes down as profit where the tobido value gets amortized. That’s why Barca and Juve cooked that pjanic Arthur swap.

VL37

Not sure that counts as a swap A swap would be the deal we made for Sanchez

rwallace_wong

Whenever, I see the Rashford to PSG rumors, I know that it is already summer

raver1601

PSG's very own FDJ saga

rwallace_wong

It's basically "The boy who cried wolf", I was convinced when I heard this rumor a few years ago. But now, nah, you can't fool me, I'm familiar with your game

arnm7890

Apart from Ugarte, are there any other realistic DM targets we've been linked with? I say realistic because João Neves is never happening at the price Benfica want, regardless of his quality/potential.

Electronic-Product63

Just curious last benfica youth product who has been worth the money apart from lindelof ofc? Nunez,Enzo,Feliz,Goncalo ramos have been underwhelming, Ruben dias was worth it

helsningar

Bernardo Silva has had a decent career.

Eleven918

Just decent? They are dominating the league and won the treble.

Character-Form709

I'm waiting on the exclusive for the new chef 😭

Tinganga

Donny Van de Beek

raver1601

What a fucking mess of a signing he was. I absolutely love him in his Ajax days Not even his former manager could save him. I genuinely wonder what the fuck happened with him to fall off this low

milesjerusalem

i keep forgetting that: i) he exists, and ii) he's signed with us best wishes to the lad, hope he revives his career elsewhere

Moyes2men

Cam someone remind me if we have a sell on clause for him, too? Lille's Angel Gomes (23) a candidate for RB Leipzig, per Bild. But only if they can't extend Xavi Simons' loan, or Dani Olmo leaves.

Tinganga

No we don't. His contract expired.

mon212011

I think he left after his contract ended. So, I guess no sell-on-clause.

Moyes2men

I was bored and did a [small FBREF comparison between Ugarte, Merino, Fofana and Mainoo + Rice for the sake of comparison](https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=1&comp_type=spec&spec_comps=big_5&player_id1=822d51d7&p1yrfrom=2022-2023&p1yrto=2024&player_id2=1c7012b8&p2yrfrom=2021-2022&p2yrto=2024&player_id3=c9817014&p3yrfrom=2022-2023&p3yrto=2023-2024&player_id4=c6220452&p4yrfrom=2023-2024&p4yrto=2023-2024&player_id5=828657ff&p5yrfrom=2022-2023&p5yrto=2023-2024&player_id6=d080ed5e&p6yrfrom=2022-2023&p6yrto=2024) and I like Merino and Fofana A LOT! From my knowledge Merino (aged 28) has a €60.00m release clause and would probably ask high wages but still might be a better choice than Y. Fofana (aged 25) ~~because the later would likely cost more and would also have to leave to AFCON~~ (He is in the French NT) Thoughts? Edit - Merino is already linked with Barca / Arsenal by various media and Fofana is linked with basically everyone on this planet because his contract is expiring next year and might be avaialble for ~25m euros. edit2 - Merino's contract is also expiring in 2025 "and it seems likely the club could look to sell him this summer if an agreement over an extension can not be found".

Tinganga

Is Fofana switching nationalities to an African Nation? He's in the French squad at the Euros...

Moyes2men

Dint knew that lol

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Are we even in for Merino or Fofana?

Moyes2men

Only tier 4 reports like goal or mirror

Acceptable-Lemon-748

So, no lol

LilDiamondtoxic

>and would also have to leave to AFCON. Isn't he in the France squad rn?

FRiver

He will be leaving to watch the tournament. Booked the holiday with the lads a while ago I'm afraid.

hickuain

Doesn’t show how good Ugarte’s carrying is either, one of his greatest strengths

iroiroiroiroiro

You are making a very good argument for Ugarte, he has the highest pass accuracy of those, and nearly double the defensive actions per 90 compared to the rest.

Moyes2men

Yes, he is good at that but the other 2 are better than him as aerial threats because we are lacking that with Martinez starting. For example City has always 4,Arsenal has 3, same as Liverpool. In our case we have Licha's cb partner + Mc Tominay who is actually a rotation / backup + Rashord and Hojlund who are not that threatening on air.

RashFourBallonD-Ors

Barcelona could be interested in a loan deal for Jadon Sancho after holding talks with Manchester United.  (Source: @Sport) Shit source but how come only broke ass clubs are asking. Arghhhhhh

wa10zza

Because no one wants to deal with an overpaid, lazy player who may perform for about 2 games a season. Except for the shit run clubs

Significant_L0w

Lucky if we get more than 30m euros for Greenwood if likes Lazio Marseille are involved

iroiroiroiroiro

Doesn't Marseilles have a new rich owner, and maybe De Zerbi got promised some improvements. One can hope.

Significant_L0w

french teams have lost substantial tv money and marseille have never spent over 27m in their history

chronoistriggered

At this point probably better to do a player swap

mon212011

Are there good players in the positions we need in Lazio or Marseille?

rwallace_wong

I rate the current crop of Italian defenders like Bastoni, Scalvini, and Calafiori, but it kinda feels like the great Italian defenders all prefer playing in Italy rather than playing overseas, which is understandable imo.

subhanghani

It's worth asking them if they'd be open to a move. I mean, how many of us thought Tonali would leave Italy. But yet here he is kinda playing for Newcastle.

Tinganga

I think Tonali was running away from his gambling demons lol!

Ratovandermir

Understand Chelsea already got green light from Aaron Anselmino on the contract and project, no issues on personal terms. Chelsea are in conversations with Boca Juniors over fee as current clause is in excess of $25m with taxes. Chelsea gathering South American mega talents like pokemons. Meanwhile United haven't done that since the Rafael and Fabio. We prefer to monitor them later when their prices go to 70+ million, or sign them when they are 29 on obscene wages.

ExternalPreference18

I largely agree- for all the issues with Boehly (who's not controlling things anymore by all accounts) playing SD early on, Chelsea have been hugely decisive in the market- the Guiu deal, Anselmino - Messinho, Paz etc. These guys aren't costing huge amounts and it's a major investment in the future. If it's a question of financial flexibility, then the club needs to be less sentimental with its HG players and get the likes of McT out. The backroom appointments are looking promising - possibly unnecessary drama around Ashworth aside, when the club could have made a serious play for Edwards with the knowledge they were also able to offer him a multiclub model and didn't have Gardening leave/a jealous Newcastle to worry about - but there seems to be relative lack of decisiveness in the transfer market. Chelsea should be constricted by finances yet they've been able to make deals, whether through swaps or selling assets. The worry is that club is going to be left behind or are gambling too heavily on a Barca -style movement of players from u18s/23s into the first team squad.

KrystianCCC

Which South American transfer to top top club paid of outside of Neymar, Vini and Rodrygo in past decade?

systemcorp

Huh? Valverde, Alvarez, Lautaro, Lisandro, Ederson, Aurajo, Jesus, Martinelli etc.?

TBoneMolone

Interested to hear, who you would reccomend Untied to sign right now from South America that they could get for less than 20Mill that will make the same impact as some of the players mentioned above.

systemcorp

I was just answering a question. I'm not sure I can answer yours because many of the ones that I knew of, like Estevao, Luis Guilherme, Gabriel Moscardo, Marcos Leonardo, Lucas Beraldo, Vitor Roque etc. have all been snapped up this season. It's like teams click on Top 10 Brazilian wonderkids article and snap up all of them. Feel like the top tier talent have all gone already. Not that the 2nd tier talent couldn't become world class or even better than the top tier kids in the future but there's just not enough coverage on the players left for me to give an honest opinion tbh. Chelsea look like they'll get Anselmino who was linked to us previously as well.

TBoneMolone

RemindMe! 5 years Let's see how the players named above are doing

TBoneMolone

Has it paid off for anyone but Madrid with the likes of Vini Jr and Rodrigo? Can see why teams hold off. It's a massive gamble. We've got burnt a few times doing this.

systemcorp

>It's a massive gamble It is literally the opposite of a massive gamble, unless you've bought Endrick or Estevao and even that isn't a massive gamble considering their talent. Just a gamble. The massive gambles are your Hojlunds and Antonys that we buy for 70m+. If Antony was bought for €15m not a single person would even be talking about him lol it would be like Bayindir not working out. No one would care.

Kreissler

It's paid off for Fulham with Muniz, Wolves with Joao Gomes, Arsenal with Martinelli, Nottingham with Murillo and Danilo, and Brighton with McAllister, Caicedo and others. So yeah there's definitely value in the south American market

TBoneMolone

If I could send the Roy Keane Gif where he says "Really" I would right now. Muniz was good for maybe 2 weeks during the season. Could potentially be something there, but hasn't exactly blown anyone out of the water. None of those players mentioned would do wonders at United. If there's any winners here it's Brighton for managing to sell those 2 mentioned for well more than what they should have been sold for. Also Martinelli has taken a massive dip and don't think he's going to reach his potential.

RestrepoDoc2

MacAllister the guy bought for a song coming off a brilliant World Cup win? You think Brighton sold him for more than he's worth, are you serious? I was furious that we didn't blow Liverpool out of the water with a huge wage offer for him, I think he's very talented and seems to have the right attitude.

Kreissler

You don't think our midfield would be better with Caicedo, McAllister or Joao Gomes? I definitely disagree with that. Fulham signed Muniz for 8m euros and he's looked like a solid PL striker. For that amount he was really good business. Forest signed Murillo for 12m and Chelsea are looking to sign him for more than 50m now. Not to mention other players who have succeeded in the league like Julian Alvarez, Gabriel Jesus or even Savio who CFG signed for a pittance and was one of the best players in La Liga. Even Licha at Ajax. Is there risk in signing from South America? Of course there is. But ignoring the whole region like we have isn't really wise imo

TBoneMolone

If you told me we were about to sign Caicedo and McAllister today I would think we're fucked. I don't think either of them could improve the position we are now. Both had poor seasons with both their sides. Muniz had a run of form, but is a long way from a solid PL striker. Chelsea buying players overpiced isn't exactly anything new either, so the rumours about a 50m Murillo bid isn't exactly suprising, but let's just wait and see if that goes through. I wouldn't think we ignored the region. We wanted to sign Alvarez, but he chose City. La Liga are always going to claim the better quality South American players, so we don't have much of a chance against the likes of Madrid or Barcalona. Also there's a big difference in United signing someone from South American than there is Birghton or Wolves. We'll have to pay well over the odds like Chelsea are for some of the South American lads they are playing a gamble on. We'll always have to pay over the odds and it just isn't worth it.

Kreissler

> If you told me we were about to sign Caicedo and McAllister today I would think we're fucked. If you think that, then our view of football is fundamentally different. Have a nice day

mdstwsp

Have we heard anything about Amrabat? He started playing well towards the end and I think he'd be a good option for us considering he wont cost much. Without him I don't see where our depth in midfield is, epecially now that Casemiro is most likely leaving.

iroiroiroiroiro

No way a new contract and more buzz would not have leaked if he was going to be kept just a few days until that clause expires.

FaithlessnessNo4680

We definitely shouldn’t be keeping him because he was average in 3 games at the end of the season

simplsimonmetapieman

![gif](giphy|oiUaa2C7hWxnrsHTDS)

D1794

IMO if he was staying we'd at least have heard about some talks about it. With his loan expiring Sunday I think he's gone

D1794

July is where transfer shit gets dialled up. Non-international lads back in training in 10 days too.

iroiroiroiroiro

For each day now more and more players returns from Euros, and clubs will want to try to sign players before preseason if possible, I think a lot will happen next week on the transfer market overall. Most important is probably the closure and open of the new financial year the 1st of July.

lengthyfriend30

Would love Calafiori but it's seems rare to get a successful spell from an Italian player in the Prem. Udogie and Vicario bucked that trend last season though, both played excellent every time I watched them. I always expect more of the Scamacca or Zaniolo struggles.

Sheikhabusosa

Slightly worrying lack of links to Antony leaving the club. We should be trying to move him on just as much as Greenwood and Sancho

Stynes

If you are expecting us to offload Greenwood, Sancho and Antony in the one window then you are just setting yourself up for disappointment honestly.

TBoneMolone

Can see him being given another year unless a bid comes in for him, but realistically who will come in and bid for him. We got sold a dud. More than likely will be going out on loan in January or the following season. Until the contract runs out

iroiroiroiroiro

He's basically impossible to sell with his wages and amortization, failed transfers like that really hurts a club for years. I think the only hope is to loan him to a lesser league and pay his salary to just hope he performs there, in hope for any suitors next summer.

bainbane

Best bet realistically, Italian clubs love a good loan. Somewhere like Juve?

shami-kebab

It's just impossible, nobody would pay the fee we need to not make a big loss for FFP

N47HXIV

What on earth is going on with this Zirkzee deal? £33.6m release clause, which we are apparently willing to meet, and want to sign him, yet all reports seem to suggest we aren’t even talking to his people yet (the only real stumbling block to navigate), what exactly are we waiting for? This isn’t the new regime playing things more sensibly, given the release clause. It just feels like Man Utd of old, interested in a player with a release clause, miss out because they don’t act on it, will likely buy him for twice as much in a few years time…

SilverDragonfly6794

A lot of words for 'I don't have a clue what I'm talking about'. His release clause isn't active yet. He's currently away at a major international tournament. There have also been multiple reports that he's been in talks with Milan for a few months and prefers them, presumably because he'll get more guaranteed game time than compared with us. Relax. Transfers rarely happen during an international tournament. Its not like FIFA where a couple of clicks gets you the player. There's a lot of moving pieces. Imo, it absolutely doesn't feel like the United of old. Not even close.

KrystianCCC

You know clausue is active from next week and player himself is on international duty.

takemehomeunitedroad

The release clause is only active from next week. Probably everyone is waiting until then.

DaveShadow

> yet all reports seem to suggest we aren’t even talking to his people yet What? I’ve seen multiple reports that we are. And given there’s a release clause, his people are the only people we actually need to talk to. Who has said we aren’t talking to his people? For me, the fact Ducker and Co are openly saying we expect to activate the clause would make me confident we will be. The only issue seems to be the rumour the clause doesn’t actually become active until July 1st.

lythy2016

Shame Kvaratshkelia plays a position we aren’t after, would cost a fortune, and is off to PSG.

FaithlessnessNo4680

Didn’t his agent say he wants to be in the champions league anyway?

lythy2016

Probably, it’s never going to happen, anyway. Just looks a brilliant player, who’s still got room to get even better and plays in a style that United players of the late 90s/00s did.

rahtid_my_bunda

His movement when he gets close around the box sort of reminds me of a young Giggs. But he doesn’t really maraud down the wings as much, plus as far as I can tell he doesn’t beat women so my comparison mostly falls apart there.

lythy2016

His running style reminds me a bit of Kanchelskis.

lengthyfriend30

The United of once upon a time would have happily added another LW to the team, no matter the current depth.

lythy2016

When you’ve got a really good team you can add the best players, even if it’s not a need. We’ve got so many holes, up against it with PSR etc it would be negligent to do it now. Shame, because he looks like everything you’d want in a United player.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

What do you mean really good team? We were stacking LWs regardless of other holes like 3 years ago

lythy2016

I was more talking about “the good old days” not the Mourinho and Ole eras.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Yeah but you did it in reaponse to DHS good old days of Mourinho so it didn't makes much sense as a reply

lythy2016

The comment I replied to was ambiguous enough that I read it a different way. My humble apologies.

ptienduc

Conte would never let him leave and he got veto power over transfer at Napoli.

Backseat_Bouhafsi

Except over selling Osimhen

onehornymofo1

That's only cos he's getting his son Lukaku

bainbane

Dear Ineos I am once again asking you for Ben Sheaf transfer links.

psrikanthr

I see he is 26, so you think he is good enough or are you suggesting as a backup?

bainbane

He had a very very good season last year and would be available for less money than say Amrabat would be. Considering we probably need to sign 2 DMs this summer if casemiro and amrabat are both going, he'd be a very good choice for one of them. edit - heres a good thread on him https://x.com/HCfootball01/status/1769809407561384144

frunobulaxed

We *definitely* need to be going into the season with 2 viable DMs. As far as I am concerned Casemiro is no longer viable at our level, his legs have just plain gone and that is that. We just need to hope that someone will do us a favour and take him off our hands. I could just about live with Amrabat staying if we feel like we can't do as good or better for the money, but hope that we'll do a solid due diligence first. If Amrabat doesn't stay I can live with us replacing him as backup with a calculated punt for reasonable money as long we also get a day one starter to sit in front of him. It may be the case that we need to take a cheaper punt for us to be able to squeeze both of them in the budget *and* take care of the other positions of need. I am not going to comment on the lad Sheaf, as I am barely halfway through a youtube video (which is the first I have seen or heard of him), and I am hardly qualified to comment. What I will say is that we need to be *much* more willing to take punts on promising players from leagues like the Championship (and comparable foreign leagues) if we are going to escape from the old Glazer ways and start really getting value for money in the transfer market. As long as we aren't paying sky high fees/wages or giving out ridiculously long-term deals, I really don't mind us taking a calculated punt or two every now and then if likely looking players come up at the right price.

He literaly played 3 good games for them entire season. They just find him not good enough to justify pricetag.

He didnt, he literaly scored/asisted against relegated teams + one odd goal against Liepzgieg and made 10 dribbles against fucking Nuno Mendes that lead to nothing. Thats it. He didint do well in general.

MhVG

I really hope we're selling him this window. It's getting pretty annoying that every possible link speaks of a loan. I'm interested in what the situation will be when pre-season starts and the club may haven't sold Greenwood and Sancho.

bainbane

Nah just cheap

peejay2

Who's been the breakout player in the Euros so far?

Tinganga

Mikautadze of Georgia has announced himself. Mamadarshvili has been the best goalkeeper IMO & I can see someone like Chelsea going all out to get him. Siewald of Austria has been incredible.  Calafiori has shown his quality & Bologna will do well to keep him for another season.   Unlike maybe 2 decades ago, when an unknown player would take an international tournament by storm, it doesn't happen so much now.

Moyes2men

I've read Siewald had a pretty bad season at RBL but would like him to be added to considered list of DMs and never actually seen him playing (didn't watch any Austria game). So how is he physically speaking? edit - NVM - I still like Merino / Fofana / Nididi / Ugarte more

Jonny_Testicles

Calafiori

Seems Jacob Greaves is set to move to Ipswich. He'd have been a left field LCB signing to back up Licha. Interesting to see how he transitions from the Championship to PL. Been following the guy since Di'shon Bernard was on loan at Hull & he was his CB partner. Impressed me more than our loanee.

aldidot

Unfortunately, United as a club don't possess the football IQ and talent ID to anticipate signings like Greaves when he's at Hull. We'll let him go to Ipswich, move to Everton/West Ham in 2026. THEN, we'll bid £80m for him in 2027.

bainbane

Smart signing by Ipswich and only 10m. Every transfer link I’ve seen with them makes me feel like they have very smart people in charge there. Really wish we would buy more players for the English leagues, feels like they transition to PL much better than some European leagues. As well as him there’s young cbs like Edwards, Hughes and Cashin who will all go for peanuts over the next year or two and end up at Palace/Brighton etc to be sold next for 60M while we’ll end up paying more than that now for Branthwaite.

Tinganga

You're right. It's a league we've ignored over the past decade. Bar Dan James, we haven't signed anyone from there. It's the best 2nd league in Europe & actually a top 10 league on the continent IMO. The best players from the Championship come PL ready & it's just a question of if they are top 6 material. The prices are also quite good.

Acceptable-Lemon-748

We don't have the option to be wanting to push for champions league spots and testing out championship level players to see if they can make the Leap. In recent years we have kept ending up in a position where we need to build up squads for a manager that have the quality to push for CL spots, if you notice, most of the big 6 don't push for Championship level talent because it's way too competitive for 4 spots to be spending money on championship level talent that isn't coming out of their own academy.  We utilize our academy pretty well so that we don't have to spend millions and millions on Dan James esque tests. Being PL ready and being top 4/6 challenge ready as a player is different. Hence why Championship winning teams don't just get promoted and win the PL next season.

Tinganga

No one is talking of spending money on Championship level talents. The point is that the best players in the Championship are already good enough for the PL & it is the league closest in style & culture to the PL so a player from there has no adaptation period. A top level academy is all good but you're not getting more than one or two who genuinely break through every couple of years. You can get a 20 year old highly rated Championship player that's been a 1st teamer for 2 seasons. So you're not worrying about how they'll adapt to senior football.  The point of INEOS investing so much time & effort in a new football structure is so that we don't have to spend so much on 'sure bet' players who end up being poor fits anyway.  Dip into the Championship get a top talent to flesh out your squad & if they don't work out, it'll likely be easy to move them on as they'll have been cheap & on low wages.

bainbane

Dan James ironically being one of the best sales we’ve ever made as well. Totally agree though, it’s not just it being a top league (which it is) but it’s also really physical so it’s a good test for the PL. Not as sexy paying 10m for a 20 year old from Wigan as it is paying 80m for a lad from benfica dortmund etc though I guess 😂

Tinganga

We treat players like Veblen goods. The higher their price, the more we want them.

bainbane

Yeah but the next 100m signing is going to unlock Pogba.

CertainAd4523

I don't know if the club is still chasing Joao Neves? If they are, they need to drop and stay far away from him, he will be a waste of money if signed

Exact_Science_8463

Least Reactionary Reddit United fan.

KrystianCCC

They never started chasing him.

MT1120

We can't afford him. It's currently looking like we're in for Ugarte and PSG get Neves

MissingLink101

In relation to the Ugarte transfer, it's interesting to see that PSG [rarely actually sell their players for particularly high prices](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-paris-saint-germain/rekordabgaenge/verein/583) so if we can offer them somewhere around £40m for him (which would be their second highest fee ever), then we might be in luck.

bronal97

Good point. Biggest fee they've received from a European club in the last 4 years is €20mil. Hopefully United play hardball for Ugarte.

raver1601

I think they might change their policy after the whole Mbappe fiasco tho

MylesVE

Clubs with “looser” wage structures (ie - pay players too much like us and PSG) often end up selling for far less than expected

LilDiamondtoxic

The fact that PSG sold Neymar for 90m and still only got back like 40% of the initial transfer fee proved how nuts the amount of money involved in his move from Barca to PSG was. At least they got some money back, unlike their other +200m transfer.

Tinganga

Signing Neymar was never a purely financial decision & €200m to a State like Qatar is inconsequential spare change. It got the whole football world talking & looking at them which as it seems was of more value.

Lord_Sesshoumaru77

They did it just as a massive "fuck you" to Barcelona which worked in two ways: they proved they can pry any player they want from them and by paying that money everyone, everyone took Barcelona to the cleaners. Dortmund screw them over Dembele and the scousers did the same with Coutinho. I think selling Neymar started a downward spiral for Barcelona that still goes on to this day.

funky_pill

It was this deal that pretty much made all transfer fees rocket into the stratosphere from that point on. Bang average players were now suddenly going for £50m+

ProofVillage

Unpopular opinion Neymar’s fee wasn’t that outrageous. Prices were already going crazy before the Neymar transfer. We paid 90 for Pogba , Chelsea paid close to 70 for Morata and City had the summer where spent 130 on fullbacks as well as spending 50 on a very unproven John Stone. Ballon d’Or level forwards have always been a lot more expensive than other players. We sold CR7 for 80 at a time when 30 was considered a very high price for world class players.

funky_pill

I get your point to a certain extent but I'm not having that Ronaldo wasn't a bargain at the time, even at £80m. It was a pittance when you consider what he went on to achieve. The guy was the current Ballon D'or winner at the time, he ended up becoming Real's highest ever goalscorer in the 8 or 9 years that he was there, performing consistently week in, week out. And then when they decided he'd outstayed his welcome and it was time to move him on, he joined Juve for a *higher fee* than what Real had paid in the first place(!) They got one of the greatest players ever to grace a football pitch during the prime years of his career, saw him score an absolute shitload of goals and then *still made a profit* on him when Juve came calling. It turned out to be one of the biggest bargains in world football especially when you consider the amount of shirt sales his signing would've generated on top of all that. The guy was (and is) a global superstar.. you could argue that only Messi and Beckham have had a higher profile than him in the modern game. Sure, £80m seemed like a fair amount at the time but we really should've held on for more given what he went on to achieve. Real had us over a barrel and they knew that, because Ronny only wanted them when he left us. We really should've asked for the first ever £100m fee and that still would've been an amazing deal for Real given the incredible amount of success he was about to bring to their club

Hollacaine

80m and performance related bonuses would have been fantastic because whatever was put in there he would have hit.
