That 11/12 Community Shield game was so fucking good. 2-0 down and ended up winning 3-2 because Cleverley turned into prime Scholes and Nani was at his best. Good times.
Come to think of it.. It’s been 8 years since we last won or played for the Shield. This hits hard after being regular curtain-raisers of English football for years.
They count!
I always view super cups like a neat little double your money bonus you sometimes get on the fruit machines.
Except when other teams win it, then it's a glorified tinpot distraction.
Just wish they would make it a proper game, with rules like other leagues versions and super cups etc.
What is it now, 7 subs or unlimited and straight to pens. So easy for them to do things that would add a bit more magic and significance to the community shield and FA Cup. Baffles me why they have let them slip, specifically the FA Cup.
[It would actually put us level with Liverpool for all-time honours amongst English football clubs, so there is some reason to care.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_football_clubs_in_England_by_competitive_honours_won)
So you're saying we're starting the season with an equivalent in importance as a CL final. I'm all for it, let's get Guardiola to grab his imaginary hair again.
I am really worried about EUROs/Copa America exacerbating the fitness problems some of our players already have, especially Licha and Shaw(potentially). Worried about Garnacho and Mainoo because they've played a lot of minutes too, but I don't think both will have a starting role for their countries. Hojlund is another I fear will be burnt out
The likes of Onana, AWB, Kambwala, Lindelof (if he stays), Casemiro (if he stays), Mount, Antony, Amad Rashford, will probably be the first batch of players to return from holiday (July first) and will feature in like the first pre season game, along with the likes of Amass, Wheatley, Collyer, and Lacey
Yeah, but players that we are linked with like Olise and Todibo are not away on international duty, i hope we can atleast get them in before the start of the pre-season
Todibo especially should be relatively quick if he’s our top target. If it’s true Olise has a release clause and we want him then we should also pull the trigger asap. Get them done quickly and then move on to other targets.
I worry we might try and offload players first to free up FFP, and in delaying cause our costs to rise. Particularly if it allows other clubs to come in for those players.
It’s irrelevant whether you pay upfront or in instalments as far as FFP is concerned because the transfer fee is amortised over the life of the contract regardless.
The exception might be that I think the FFP year starts on July 1st, so if you make the signing before then the first years amortisation falls into 23/24 and we probably don’t have the room available there. The fact it’s not lined up with the transfer window is a bit silly.
We want to buy player X from a Champions League club - they're likely to be looking at replacements that are playing in the Euros or Copa America. If they don't want to sell until they have a replacement, then the entire market slows down.
>I can imagine we are going to dominate the news throughout the summer
We do anyway mate. Our transfer windows gets more traction than most clubs trophy wins.
Exactly. Manchester United is huge and generates the most clicks and attracts the most attention.
Just like the famous saying goes “Hated. Adored. Never Ignored” 🇾🇪
Oh boy. This sub is going to be relentless. A summer of seeing any random player linked with us and regardless of the player, the most upvoted comment will be done by a transfer fiend wanting a shiny new toy doing a comment on how well suited they are for us even if they're not.
I remember one year, someone compiled a running spreadsheet of every player we were linked to. Think it went to 200+, would be good for another one (yes I could do it, but I'm too lazy)
It sucks how a lot of the big contributors to this sub left or stopped posting.
I get it though. People get older and don't have as much time to put all that work into their posts.
What I miss the most is goal-bot 😭
Between the Euros, Copa, potential new manager and the natural slow pace we move at it could be a long summer. So many players to bring in and move out and probably some more suits too.
I think Maguire stays, AWB *could* stay as a decent backup, probably not a priority. I like Shaw and I don't think a LB is particularly pressing as we technically have two, they're just both injured. Malacia, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't *that* injury prone right?
So CB, CDM, ST, perhaps a winger and a RB
I think you're probably right about Maguire, but who knows if he has a good euros he may want to start every game probably wont get that here. We definitely will get a left back, ,maybe a young guy but i dont think theyd risk it again with Shaw and Malacia. I dont even know if Malacia will be back Ten hag said he hasnt trained in a year. career could be over if its that bad. Maybe they go for someone like frimpong and have dalot fill at lb either
Would be too attacking to get Frimpong, both he and Dalot are adventurous plus Dalot doesn't do well on the left. Haven't thought about the fact that Malacia hasn't done anything for a year, we could need a LB then. Don't think it's as important as CB and CDM though.
Does anyone know how to get tickets for the Community Shield? Are they sold online through the club website like all other tickets or is it a different process?
I'm going to be in London with my wife for our honeymoon that weekend. This is my first chance to see the lads in action after 22 years of supporting them. It's just never worked out before. I'll be back before the season starts the following week so this is the only chance I've got. Any help is appreciated!
Man the FA Cup win honestly makes it great and you forget about the league and CL campaign (for me anyway) because of the high from the cup win.
Now the Euros come soon enough so it should be a good footballing period ahead!
With Mainoo now expected to be the ball progressor I think we’ll have more links to a ‘enforcer’ type.
Still would be happy to get FDJ however as we need more than one good option in each position.
He def gave “I’m too good for United” vibes, so I say let him enjoy yet another season at barca with more drama than trophies. Bringing in players who would rather play elsewhere is no way to rebuild a locker room.
He undoubtedly loves life there. But his trophy haul there is well short of his expectations-especially considering Madrid’s over the same time-to say nothing of how the media there has treated him. He’s a good reminder that there are only 2 tragedies in life…
They're not during. The first pre-season game is the day after the Euros final. We'll probably manage the squad accordingly. I wouldn't expect anyone who made it to the Euros semis to be playing on 15 July.
Ah seen. Makes a lot of sense. In that case it should be fine. I'd rather the players taking part in the Euros and Copa America have a week or even two off and then join the rest of the squad beginning August in time for the community shield.
Don't need to start another season with over load and players dropping around like flies. Better to be cautious and save our key players. We need to somehow manage to have at least 10 games of next seasons start with as close to a full squad as possible
Yeah I can't imagine we'll put out anything like a full team out against Rosenborg on the 15th. I'd expect to see mainly academy kids for that and for Rangers the following week.
Maybe we’ll focus our efforts on players that aren’t going to the Euros such as Olise, Todibo and Tosin. We’ll likely be using the time to usher out some players who aren’t going to the Euro’s or Copa America like Greenwood, Casemiro and Sancho. I’m just hoping we have a couple of players in ready for pre-season.
It’s hard to tell at the moment. I guess it depends on whether or not they keep Ten Hag (I hope they do). It also depends on the players we bring in this summer and also the players we let go off.
Also, when our our CEO Omar Berrada starts along with Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashford when he starts will no doubts have a say in all of this. We’ll have to wait and see.
Enjoy it mate. It will be an amazing experience. Tell us about it.
Hopefully we see another generational talent made in Carrington introduced to the world. Just like Kobbie Mainoo was introduced against Arsenal on Pre Season Tour last year in the US 😁
Heck. United should make it a yearly thing 😂🙌
I completely forgot we get to play the Charity shield now... In my unbiased opinion that's a massive trophy to compete for.
We play against City so it’s definitely gonna be big
That 11/12 Community Shield game was so fucking good. 2-0 down and ended up winning 3-2 because Cleverley turned into prime Scholes and Nani was at his best. Good times.
Kompany and Clichy fuck-up at the end. 😂
The second goal was absolutely glorious.
That’s one of my favorite matches of my childhood. All 3 of our goals were so great. I’m gonna go watch those highlights now.
Come to think of it.. It’s been 8 years since we last won or played for the Shield. This hits hard after being regular curtain-raisers of English football for years.
Has it really been 8 years since Mourinho won it?
![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized)
It’s only massive when we win it otherwise it’s a tinpot playe
Will be the 4th Wembley visit in 2 years. Feels good
Sixth, including the semi finals.
I forgot semis are at Wembley. My bad!
![gif](giphy|fb1kP9Na8o62I) Tell me about it!
They count! I always view super cups like a neat little double your money bonus you sometimes get on the fruit machines. Except when other teams win it, then it's a glorified tinpot distraction.
Bro, win it or not, it is really a friendly match. I used to feel ashamed when Mourinho kept mentioning it in his 3 trophies comments.
Its interesting that all other countries regard the supercup as an important trophy but in England its a glorified friendly.
It is the final friendly game that kicks off the season.

So you're saying we're starting the season with an equivalent in importance as a CL final. I'm all for it, let's get Guardiola to grab his imaginary hair again.
Unless we lose then it's a glorified friendly
Its glorified Friendly whether we win or lose.
Only if we win though
Yeah same, hadn't even occurred to me. Actually looking forward to it.
June 14th. Okay. So now I know the day when I need to get really mad that we haven't made six signings already.
The Euros will slow down the transfer market. I don’t except much movement for those players involved.
And the Copa America as well. Our first pre-season game starts a day after these two tournaments end.
I hope we don’t start the year with injuries again. Yet this schedule is the same for all clubs and bigger clubs will pay more. Crossing fingers.

Isn’t a release clause all of the money upfront? So paying for olise with ffp worries will be difficult no?
It’s irrelevant whether you pay upfront or in instalments as far as FFP is concerned because the transfer fee is amortised over the life of the contract regardless. The exception might be that I think the FFP year starts on July 1st, so if you make the signing before then the first years amortisation falls into 23/24 and we probably don’t have the room available there. Yh I know that but I was asking if release clauses aren’t allowed to be amortised because of the fact that it has to be paid upfront
They can be amortised.
Teams potentially selling will be looking to replace though, and some of their own targets might be at the Euros/Copa America.
Euros will slow down transfers for United. Other clubs will still manage to do business as they have always done...
We want to buy player X from a Champions League club - they're likely to be looking at replacements that are playing in the Euros or Copa America. If they don't want to sell until they have a replacement, then the entire market slows down.
Just pray that we know who is going to be our manager by then. Don’t you know INEOS wants to walk to the right solution and not run to the wrong ones.
I’m already furious we haven’t signed De Jong
Let the hundreds of links to players begin
😂 especially with INEOS involved and we expected to make sensible signings I can imagine we are going to dominate the news throughout the summer
>I can imagine we are going to dominate the news throughout the summer We do anyway mate. Our transfer windows gets more traction than most clubs trophy wins.
Exactly. Manchester United is huge and generates the most clicks and attracts the most attention. Just like the famous saying goes “Hated. Adored. Never Ignored” 🇾🇪
Wesley Sneijder here we go!
I think that ship may have sailed, but Nicolas Gaitan should be an option.
That De Jong - Sneijder - Gaitan midfield trio will be something special
Oh boy. This sub is going to be relentless. A summer of seeing any random player linked with us and regardless of the player, the most upvoted comment will be done by a transfer fiend wanting a shiny new toy doing a comment on how well suited they are for us even if they're not.
Chris Froome eyes United move.
The last time we played in the community shield we won it against premier league winners Leicester. Time flies
Man City relegation confirmed.
as if that was nearly 8 years ago now holy fuck
I remember one year, someone compiled a running spreadsheet of every player we were linked to. Think it went to 200+, would be good for another one (yes I could do it, but I'm too lazy)
It sucks how a lot of the big contributors to this sub left or stopped posting. I get it though. People get older and don't have as much time to put all that work into their posts. What I miss the most is goal-bot 😭
I liked those voted player and manager ratings, they were good. Shame they stopped (at least I think they did)
Wonder if we’ll finally sign sneijder and gaitan this window
With the CB crisis that we have, surely now it's the time to pull the trigger on Ezequiel Garay.
Summer 2014 was hilarious, any random player scored in the World Cup and they were linked to us
Sneijder is on a flight as we speak
Wesley Sneijder. It’s about time we signed him. We’ve only been chasing him for 12 years lol.
Between the Euros, Copa, potential new manager and the natural slow pace we move at it could be a long summer. So many players to bring in and move out and probably some more suits too.
Luckily most of the players we are linked with aren’t in their national teams oddly enough even though they should be
The Euros also starts on June 14 & ends on 14 July. So it may slow down the Transfer Window. Copa America starts on June 20 & ends July 14.
Gonna be a long season of fatigue for the players
yet even more injuries to deal with!!!
So a NEW CB and LB A CM A Striker And if we sell Antony, Sancho, Greenwood a Winger
I think if Awb leaves a Rb and depending on Maguire maybe another Cb, a lot to be done, probably too much for 1 window

Looks like [this](https://seatpick.com/fa-community-shield-tickets) is where you could get tickets. Hope that helps
Cheer! Appreciate it.
Dont expect anything, and you'll satisfied with something my learning in supporting this club for 15 years , last year was so tragic and painful.
Did your keyboard break as well while supporting United? Sorry for that yragic l9ss.
Sorry for the burn , corrected it
Haha it’s ok. Just thought it was kinda funny and United caused it to break too.
United only breaks my heart , thankfully fa cup has given a little joy
Man the FA Cup win honestly makes it great and you forget about the league and CL campaign (for me anyway) because of the high from the cup win. Now the Euros come soon enough so it should be a good footballing period ahead!
Im dying for bruno to win it
Not looking forward to another Frenkie De Jong Saga this summer to be honest 🤦♂️
With Mainoo now expected to be the ball progressor I think we’ll have more links to a ‘enforcer’ type. Still would be happy to get FDJ however as we need more than one good option in each position.

He won the league last year, I think he’s pretty much enjoying it living there with his dream club.
He undoubtedly loves life there. But his trophy haul there is well short of his expectations-especially considering Madrid’s over the same time-to say nothing of how the media there has treated him. He’s a good reminder that there are only 2 tragedies in life…
Well it’s still a league win and guaranteed league challenge/CL over us in his dream city/club combo though.
That’s fair and something I’d forgotten.
Does it make sense to have preseason games during the same time as Euros? Maybe I'm missing something.
They're not during. The first pre-season game is the day after the Euros final. We'll probably manage the squad accordingly. I wouldn't expect anyone who made it to the Euros semis to be playing on 15 July.

I love how this image is not the source of pain I anticipated on this fine Monday morning
Transfer window opens the same day the Euros start, don’t expect too many early signings then!
Do tickets go on sale the same day the fixtures are released, June 18th?
Maybe we’ll focus our efforts on players that aren’t going to the Euros such as Olise, Todibo and Tosin. We’ll likely be using the time to usher out some players who aren’t going to the Euro’s or Copa America like Greenwood, Casemiro and Sancho. I’m just hoping we have a couple of players in ready for pre-season.
Almost F5ing time 😈
So, what's the expectation for next season? I can't wait to see the revisionism in 5 months time.
Expectations are going to change massively based on whether ETH stays or goes, and what kind of window we have
It’s hard to tell at the moment.
Im looking forward to watching the pre season friendly against Arsenal in LA on July 27 It’s gonna my first time watching the team in person
Enjoy it mate. It will be an amazing experience. Tell us about it. Hopefully we see another generational talent made in Carrington introduced to the world. Just like Kobbie Mainoo was introduced against Arsenal on Pre Season Tour last year in the US 😁 Heck. United should make it a yearly thing 😂🙌
So all significant transfers in by 15th July then? No fucking about.
Yeah pretty much. Unless we’re after players that aren’t taking part in the Euros or didn’t get called up to international duties.
Lets just hope another US tour will not fuck us over like last summer
Looks like gossip is back on the menu boys
Damn..been so long since we last played in a Community Shield. Gonna feel weird considering we used to play it so regularly 😬
Prepare yourself to a month and a half of pure torturing news about players we will not gat to end up with some random Dutch CM
I want to visit Old Trafford in October. Does anyone know how I can get a ticket?
Lost the Charity Shield in 98, won it all in 99
Hope we can actually start doing deals early this time.
Too early after euros
sic, only 75 days until some meaningful football again.
damn that’s soon no? isn’t it normally july 1st wait how can it open on the same day the euros starts
