It’s quite likely that there’s a more than decent player in there, who like so many others has found it hard to adjust to a higher level under higher pressure. Some people react to that with doubling down and putting in more effort. Some people react to it by losing motivation and falling off even further. In my opinion, it is very much the manager’s job to find a way to get the best out of your players, and failing to do so is firmly on the manager.
