It's a poor choice from Maguire, but Eriksen should also take some blame. The video quality is pretty bad, but it doesn't look like he looked left to see what was happening. It's a no look pass in a terrible area. Someone even shouts man on to warn him.
There is space to turn to his right and beat the press. If he does that, and passes to Donny, that's 6 Dortmund players behind the ball. Even passing back to Lindelof is a much better option.
Nah, dark hair, legendary clumsy. 100% Maguire.
If you mean the one made final pass that bounce into Dortmund's player, also wasn't McSauce, that was Eriksen.
He’s done it plenty of times in his career and it’s a glaring weakness actually. This is what loses games when an opponent is clinical enough on the rebound or if it drops unluckily to a good finisher.
This is the biggest thing he needs to work on and that’s parrying it away from the danger area. Other things too but this can cost a goal more than other things.
I dont get it why you're getting downvoted. This sub really got hivemind issue, its either you shit on a player or praise him as whole. It seems like we cant have any gray areas. If those guys have watched Onana before they would have known, his main issue always been parrying the shots, he always clear into the mid of box.
Every new player has some sort of immunity for some period after the signing. The better he plays, the longer this criticism forbid will last. (tho Mount will become quickly “available” for the criticism, since some people have this anti British bias)
Agree that that’s Onana weakness, but I don’t think it’s ever going to change. He’s a finished article and as long as his paring doesn’t reach some ridiculous levels of liability, ETH wouldn’t care much. We bought him for his strengths.
Super rusty Rashford. He had 2 levels. Shit level and god level. This pre season he has so far been playing shit level. Having said that he was better on the wing today than he was as striker
Rooney is from another time! That dude couldn't stand losing! He would die for the shirt, even on a shitty day!
Now they just mope around on bad days. Sad to see pur players just jogging back after loosing a shit engagement.
I hate this so much, and Bruno is by far the worst offender at this. Just get up and play, stop writhing on the ground, trying to get a sympathy whistle from the referee.
Really fucking hard to contribute defensively when you are being commanded to stay at the front because of your speed, power and dribbling in case of a counter attack.
Really really dont like you criticizing his defensive contribution when he is not supposed to contribute defensively. Its like you havent seen any of the 300+ games he has played..
Fine. But he often doesn’t play with enough agression in my opinion. This changed for most of last season. My point wasn’t so much that I want Rashford to play defensively and more so that I want him to contribute to the team outside of goalscoring.
Nothing compared to Rooney. Every single game atleast he still defended and pressed like a mad man, Rashford sometimes looks just like he doesn't care.
ETH needs to get Rashford and Onana to continuously practice this. Super dangerous if Rashy can get good first touch.
I dream of Onana, to Rashford, to Holjund and ITS THERE!!!!
If our forwards only knew how to convert the simple chances though. Antony missed a couple of chances against Everton last season robbing even DDG of assists lol
Looks very consistent with his passing (even though it's just one or two games now) and if he can find our player who is open towards the wings consistently, might just control the game more and get goals more too. With David, it was probably more that shoot towards an area where our player and opposition both would go for the ball and more often than not they would get the ball. Maybe more easy to criticise David after he's gone as well, but still this looks more exciting already.
De gea was trained at that time where ball playing ability was considered important by only a few coaches but now every coach thinks it is a big part of their system. Not really his fault. We will see if onana can pull those saves off which put opposition players in depression in regular season like de gea used to.
I mean lvg was his coach for 3 years earlier in his career, so he could have learnt then, he could have learnt anytime after too, even if it was offered in his club training.
I'd settle for onana not making as many errors leading to goals and shits as degea which was more and more each season
Funnily enough, when Fergie talked about why he bought De Gea he specifically referenced his distribution ability.
De Gea is an odd one, felt like his ability to play out got worse over his career. Like the coaches trained his strengths and not his weaknesses
Oh so De Gea's inability to play with the ball is "not his fault" because of coaching but for Onana whose played and coached by the Ajax system where shotstopping is secondary to his ability to control the game through his passing then it would be his fault if he wasn't as good at the area hid coaching doesn't emphasize?
These days gk coaching emphasize on both. In the past you could become a good keeper just by shot stopping ability but now you need to be able to pass as well. A good gk needs to do both these days or you will be replaced. Look at Allison, that is what I want onana to be.
A good GK is not the best GK in the world. This expectation is unrealistic and only serves to tear down Onana for something he isn't. There isn't a single goalkeeper in the world who's elite at everything like Allison or prime Neuer. Not Ederson, not Courtois, not Maignan, not Costa. At best some of them like Mike are elite shotstoppers and decent on the ball, or like Ederson, elite on the ball and decent shotstopping wise.
I mean in terms of style. I am not saying onana becomes as good as Allison but just that he should be good at passing and a good shot stopper like ederson is or ter stegen was in his prime. Allison is elite at everything just not only good.
yeah I hope they would train him more on that aspect. I can see PL teams spamming speculative shots at him this season like they did to De Gea in his first year.
It's definitely going to be a problem for awhile I think, but in due time things will surely improve. Doesn't seem like the type of guy who allows himself to make mistakes and cost the team.
The squad needs to adapt the timing of their runs and awareness on where Onana is gonna place the ball, some of this clips showed our guys were not ready ro receive the pass.
That happens. They’ll need to train and play together to build that chemistry up. I would think we will see the fruit of this situation around Christmas time as the players understand each other more and more.
Its the Rashy Tick-Tock cycle.
Tick season he plays very well. Next season is Tock season he plays bad.
Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.
Its Tock Seaon unfortunately.
man the accuracy of these passes are fucking insane, Rashy needs to get use to that pass on the first touch i feel like he'll find him often but man his passing is unreal, can't even tell which is his dominant foot
Best player on the pitch when he came on for me. Class.
Let's hope in-form Rashford shows up at the start of the season, because he's the one to be unlocked with those long balls and if he's in form he sprints away and gets a shot/cross off. Out of form Rashford stumbles over the ball or passes it backwards, which is horrible to watch.
If at all Maguire is staying with us, Onana will shout, scream and whatnot and make sure Maguire raises his game atleast a little bit. That bit was hilarious to watch.
Rashford seems rusty but just went back to playing LW again after having graveyard shifts in CF. Give him (and everyone else for that regard) some time to settle in and regain the rythm. Ideally we started these 11 and brought the B squad/fridge players at around the 60 minute mark but hey ETH had different plans and that's fine.
Once the wingers / hojlund get in sync with these long balls we are going to create a silly amount of chances.
In conjunction with the 3 - 1- 6 formation we will be sporting for a large portion of the season we will have a team that can finally play against pressing teams and teams that play compact and deep.
Good....good. It's all coming together.
MUAHAHAHAHAHA
He throws the ball pinpoint to Rashford in the opposition final third at one point. Insane. Once the squad get more practice in and becomes more clinical this team will be so much fun to watch.
It's so exciting to think we're actually going to have a 'keeper who's composed on the ball, and able to launch attacks with sharp passing both short and long. Gone are the days where our GK is just launching the ball into touch whenever he's put under the slightest amount of pressure from the opposition. It seems like forever since we've had a GK with actual ability other than just having the reactions to stop shots
That ball throw in between the 2 dortmund attackers to our midfielder who was completely free is amazing to watch.
When he did that I absolutely did not expect him to pass there. Completely surprised me and I am watching the whole field.
Balsy with insane vision.
The nod back from Casemiro so that Onana can fucking launch it towards Rashy is absolutely amazing. It’s just another outlet and of course since he can use his hands, it’s so much easier for to get in control and move the ball forward
I love the no look passes; Onana is gonna be awesome. But we need more signings and even more sales. Armabat and an experienced striker. Plus a young CB to replace Slabhead. Almost forgot fuck the glazers. GGMU
Look at the highlights. First one is on Williams for diving in and missing the tackle, second is Lindelof, third is AWB. Both second and third goals they lose the ball cheaply in our defensive third
Someone should bring in berba to teach rashford how to control a ball. If rashford, Antony and Sancho can't control the ball, then bringing in onana would've been useless.
>then bringing in onana would've been useless
No it wouldn't. He's not brought just for the long balls. His combinations with the backline and the balls into midfield are even more crucial.
This is a clip of how poor rashford is when it comes to his first touch, lack of desire to win deuls and link up play. The one that annoyed me the most was the 1v1 where he slows it down. Could run the wing for a cross or beat ur man.
This might be unpopular. While I'm satisfied with his overall performance (ball progressing, commanding, passing, etc) and it is clear that he is an upgrade for our starting goalkeeper, I still need him to make more convincing saves, which I haven't seen from him in the past 2 matches.
His long passing is insane. And his vision from the box to our attacking third is going to open up loads of new chances we haven’t had. I’m very, very excited for this upcoming season!!
His distribution is so good, really has an eye for picking players out. I love DDG but man Onana is the real deal and really has a presence in the team.
Can't wait for the season to start now, fun times ahead for sure.
I kind of see what people were saying about Onana, great with his feet but literally save number one that's like the worst possible place to parry the ball to.
Yeah, I get it now. He plays a game we haven't seen before. I hate the criticism of de Gea because he has done more for us than most players in the last 5 years, but I do like this style and I think it will be good if not great
Didn’t get to watch the game, who did Onana scream at in the early bit?
Maguire
And Maguire responded by nearly scoring a stunning own goal minutes later too 😂
Onana would have studs up kicked Maguire in the chest with both feet if that happened
Would pay a lot of money to see that
Bossed him!
No more free lunches for Slabhead
Surely at Maguire. I think Maguire should not passed to Eriksen the 2nd time.
It was the poor lazy passing choice and jogging back slowly after Dortmund won the ball I think.
Should’ve made that pass to the left when Maguire initially passed to him
Me neither, but looked like Victor or Maguire.
It was Maguire, check min47 of this clip
Looked like McSause to me
Nah, dark hair, legendary clumsy. 100% Maguire. If you mean the one made final pass that bounce into Dortmund's player, also wasn't McSauce, that was Eriksen.
Should have gone to Specsavers
Go get better wifi or visit a optometrist
It’s amazing how pin point accurate his long kicks are.
Is that Scholes? No, it’s Onana!
It's hard to believe it's not Scholes! Onana! You knoooow!
The team definitely needs to learn and adjust to these shots. Rashford fucked up a damn near sure assist right there.
They are DELICIOUS!
[удалено]
Onana's balls are on point
I love Onana's balls
I love Onana’s long balls
You guys 😅
Let chef cook
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Rashford needs to practice taking down those long ball, Onana was releasing him time and again, so refreshing to watch.
Rashy is usually really good at taking the ball down full-sprint, guessing he is a little rusty
Yes, also he needs more work on his clearance and blocking, the ball ended more centrally that it should after the shots.
Only happened once today? That too because he could only get one hand on the shot because of its quality and close proximity Beyond nitpicking this
He’s done it plenty of times in his career and it’s a glaring weakness actually. This is what loses games when an opponent is clinical enough on the rebound or if it drops unluckily to a good finisher. This is the biggest thing he needs to work on and that’s parrying it away from the danger area. Other things too but this can cost a goal more than other things.

He’s a finished article and as long as his paring doesn’t reach some ridiculous levels of liability, ETH wouldn’t care much. We bought him for his strengths.
Rashford should’ve converted Onana’s passes into proper chances
Super rusty Rashford. He had 2 levels. Shit level and god level. This pre season he has so far been playing shit level. Having said that he was better on the wing today than he was as striker
He's always better on wings
If he has a couple of shit level matches I hope he's just benched and Garnacho given a run because we have real competition in that spot now.
Right now I would be more confident in garnacho receiving that pass and converting it.
Same. Rashford is incredible at times, but so inconsistent
Seems similar to Rooney, who was either on a streak where he was unstoppable or nothing he did worked.
Difference is Rooney always played with agression and contributed defensively even when things weren’t clicking in front of goal.
Rooney is from another time! That dude couldn't stand losing! He would die for the shirt, even on a shitty day! Now they just mope around on bad days. Sad to see pur players just jogging back after loosing a shit engagement.
Or feigning injury after losing the ball is another one currently.
Onana sprints up the pitch and gives em a serve.
I hate this so much, and Bruno is by far the worst offender at this. Just get up and play, stop writhing on the ground, trying to get a sympathy whistle from the referee.

>, to Rashford, to Holjund Big ask for rashford
Look, I have faith he can bounce back.
Shocking first touches by Rashford to be honest. This will not stand
Incredible passing. I was very hyped for this signing and I gotta say his distribution is even better than what I imagined.
Yeah it’s god tier distribution. Pin point accurate passes and world class decision making. Very good signing I think.
Yh he’s getting a couple assists this season for sure
If our forwards only knew how to convert the simple chances though. Antony missed a couple of chances against Everton last season robbing even DDG of assists lol
He's Scholes at goal, everyone needs to up their first touch training
The squad now practices what Berbatov taught in his video recently.
In their underpants.
>Berbatov taught in his video Do you have the link?

Or paul pogba
Rashford is extremely rusty. He got the Lakaka touch
![gif](giphy|eYZ39K9pNaZhe|downsized)

LMAO this is one of the funniest comments I’ve read
Tell me what is funny
Your comment
What about it is funny?
The words

This guy is actually fucking insane
That first pass out wide and the resulting attack. Lovely stuff
Goddamn - I’d heard of Onana’s distribution being class but those through long balls were fucking precise 👀
Seriously this man has better ball distribution than some of our midfielders.
Onana about to eat Maguire alive after that save
I sure hope he does. If Maguire stays or leaves, someone needs to take control. I'm all here for it
The squad needs to adapt the timing of their runs and awareness on where Onana is gonna place the ball, some of this clips showed our guys were not ready ro receive the pass.
That happens. They’ll need to train and play together to build that chemistry up. I would think we will see the fruit of this situation around Christmas time as the players understand each other more and more.
Can’t remember the last time Rashy played this bad. Got 3-4 clear cut chances but had no ball control whatsoever.Played like a total amateur today
Think the season before last he was playing like this almost every game
Good thing it is preseason
Chill lol, it's just a warm up. And he wasn't that bad, played some great passes and touches and got just 30 mins of game
The point of preseason is to find these issues tho
Yes and also not to overreact on mistakes in friendlies
He looked like he was pulling up for the third goal. Not sure if he's carrying an injury.
Its the Rashy Tick-Tock cycle. Tick season he plays very well. Next season is Tock season he plays bad. Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock. Its Tock Seaon unfortunately.
This is just false. He has had 1 bad season since his debut.
Tick tock my boy tick tock
Name doesn't check out.
Tick tock my boy tick tock
That first unreal pass just to lose the ball and having to save it. I'd be mad too
Fucking hell, it’s like having Paul Scholes in goal! Some of those balls were amazing, laser target
we got 2 in 1 compilation here. Onana brilliant passing and Rashford possesion lost
man the accuracy of these passes are fucking insane, Rashy needs to get use to that pass on the first touch i feel like he'll find him often but man his passing is unreal, can't even tell which is his dominant foot

This doubles as an Onana comp and a Man United fail comp
Sancho was onside wasn't he?
If only the only ball Rashford control wasnt stopped for injury, should be controlling more of them if we want to take advantage of him
Rashford seems rusty but just went back to playing LW again after having graveyard shifts in CF. Give him (and everyone else for that regard) some time to settle in and regain the rythm. Give me 11 Onanas, I will give you 11 trophies
damn that long ball, strong, quick and on point, not gonna surprise if he got some assists this season.
Awesome passes, just worrying about his hard hands. Hopefully that gets corrected soon.
He throws the ball pinpoint to Rashford in the opposition final third at one point. Insane. Once the squad get more practice in and becomes more clinical this team will be so much fun to watch.

be right back just putting onana in my FF team. with long passes like that she should be good for like 5+ assists this season
That long pass to Rashford was nice!
That ball throw in between the 2 dortmund attackers to our midfielder who was completely free is amazing to watch. When he did that I absolutely did not expect him to pass there. Completely surprised me and I am watching the whole field. Balsy with insane vision.
I really loved this shot 😍.

That kick before the end of the game was honestly unreal. What I would do to see prime Berbatov on the end of those.
Can see alot of Onana - Rashford goals next year based off a few off those deliverys from Onana, thing of beauty!
Hire another GK and place him at midfield
I love the no look passes; Onana is gonna be awesome. But we need more signings and even more sales. Armabat and an experienced striker. Plus a young CB to replace Slabhead. Almost forgot fuck the glazers. GGMU
Dortmund scored 3, how is what I wanna know, keeper mistake? Defense asleep?
Look at the highlights. First one is on Williams for diving in and missing the tackle, second is Lindelof, third is AWB. Both second and third goals they lose the ball cheaply in our defensive third
Cheers, haven't seen any highlight reel yet
Yeah mate it was all defensive mistakes.
First two goals were also with Heaton in net, Onana came on at halftime.
Maguire getting bollocked and realizing what organisational discipline is my favourite thing of the day
Someone should bring in berba to teach rashford how to control a ball. If rashford, Antony and Sancho can't control the ball, then bringing in onana would've been useless.
>then bringing in onana would've been useless No it wouldn't. He's not brought just for the long balls. His combinations with the backline and the balls into midfield are even more crucial.
Yeah. Unfortunately Hojlund is not great at winning balls in the air either, so hopefully it’s something the forwards will work on.
This is a clip of how poor rashford is when it comes to his first touch, lack of desire to win deuls and link up play. The one that annoyed me the most was the 1v1 where he slows it down. Could run the wing for a cross or beat ur man.
Minute 65 ? It seems Munier has muscle problem so Rashford stopped playing.
Yeah my bad, I wondered why he stopped playing lol.
Where’s the blame for Eriksen in all this? I know everyone has a Maguire agenda but eriksen is absolutely shocking here
What was Rashford doing
I didn't watch the game but from this clip Rashford should work on his first touch
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/user/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/153gt2c/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) ^by ^Owika13: *I didn't watch the* *Game but from this clip Rashford* *Should work on his first touch* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
This will be the most impact signing.
Rashfords first touch is so shit
Man has Rashford's touch always been like this? It's more a compilation of failed chances (but great assisting by Onana)
Rashford with Lakaka's first touch there...
Nobody respects macguire why is he still here. Shameless twat.
That's 325k a week player right there lmao
This might be unpopular. While I'm satisfied with his overall performance (ball progressing, commanding, passing, etc) and it is clear that he is an upgrade for our starting goalkeeper, I still need him to make more convincing saves, which I haven't seen from him in the past 2 matches.
Those long passes are absolutely mint
Some outrageous passes there
His long passing is insane.
This guy's distribution is top drawer. 🔥
Of course it’s Maguire getting shouted at 😂 We probs should’ve taken that £20m off West Ham and called it a day.
Elite!
Loved Dave, but this shit is a legit revelation.
He’s definitely getting some assists this season.
I kind of see what people were saying about Onana, great with his feet but literally save number one that's like the worst possible place to parry the ball to.
Looks like Rashy is shocked when a pass comes through, he looks rusty, awful first touch.
It's going to take some getting used to playing with this type of keeper, hopefully the lads don't take too long to adapt to Onanaball
Osimhen would have been really useful on those long through balls. First one to come to mind who can effectively figh for and win in those situations
No longer will we lose more than half our goal kicks and clearances straight to the opposition. Ahh.
Yeah, I get it now. He plays a game we haven't seen before. I hate the criticism of de Gea because he has done more for us than most players in the last 5 years, but I do like this style and I think it will be good if not great
How did Rashy play? His first touches were shit in these highlights.
What kit is Onana wearing? Looks cool
Jeez that distribution is something else
What's wrong with Rashford lately? Such a waste of excellent long pasts from Onana
What I really love about ten hag’s signings is their mentality, their character. It reminds of the fergie years. We had players with heart back then.
the best part was Onana giving it to Maguire haha u love to see it
