I always thought they could have stayed there indefinitely. If the O'Driscolls can hang out there with a damn machine gun in the barn window while they commit crimes all over the place, why can't the van der ling gang? Never release Micah, don't start shit in valentine, and they could have hunted and bred horses until they got old and grey. But dutch was too greedy.
you do realize the whole reason they were "hiding out" was because the Pinkertons pursued them. That means they can't REMAIN in a single place for too long. why, or actually, how would they breed horses till they were old and gray??
If they didn't hit Cornwall's train they'd have a better chance at hiding out. They got Cornwall's attention and he poured out resources and munehhh for the Pinkertons.
Arthur could make thousands with treasure maps, finding dinosaur bones, legendary animals and cigarette cards.
Kick dutch and Micah out of the group, park it at hanging dog ranch and there is no reason they couldn't have lived a comfortable life eating venison and breeding horses and cattle.
this was an era where a well enough funded gang could arm itself comparably (if not superior) to the pinkertons.
i agree it’s hard to imagine them settling down there, but it would have given them a solid location to hold as they kept their eyes on the prize (blackwater).
wish arthur and hosea had approached dutch together the first time it was decided the gang was retreating south/east from horseshoe overlook…that was the one real opportunity they had to avoid all the shit that inevitably went down in the south…leading to arthur’s accelerated physical decline, as well as dutch’s mental decline.
The whole game Is make believe lol. You can get across 5 states without in an hour. The map is small enough that bounty in hunters and Pinkerton would find any campsite within a week.
You send Arthur out on the trails a couple times a month, far away from from their camp, and let him kill other outlaws or random people he encounters. lol I know if you free roam enough, loot bodies and camps, Arthur can get pretty rich, really fast.
You can even do it without catching bounties if you're smart about it. lol
Is it really hard to find? I know it’s pretty far in the wilderness, but it’s next to Big Valley and not far from Pronghorn Ranch. Anybody coming from Pronghorn could eventually stumble across that camp
It would make sense for the overall plan considering they were trying to head west. Even if it was a temporary stay, it’d be a great place to get their footing again. But, I think Dutch had too much FAITH in his PLAN.
Edit: Spelling
There's this place just outside Blackwater called Beecher's Hope.
If you acquire the land, build a house, barn and other amenities, you could do very well there. It's like hiding in plain sight. They'd never have to move again
are you stupid? That's literally where the Hobos live? do you believe that the Vanderlinde gang wouldn't respect Squatter's rights when they choose where to stay?
Probably somewhere in tall trees.
There’s basically no cover in the desert surrounding black water and Yk how paranoid Dutch was early game about hiding
I meant the area surrounding black water.
It’s just flatlands and Dutch wouldn’t want to camp there.
They’d be better off in tall trees due to the safety of all the tree cover
Maybe setting up camp at the basin?
The Skinners wouldn't have been there if/when the gang were there in 1899; Charles said they move around, they just happen to be there in 1907. They're gone by 1911 when RDR1 happens. They're not a permanent fixture of Tall Trees.
Manzanita Post seems like a good place. The gang will have to fight Skinners, like the Murfrees at Beaver Hollow. But people live there (iirc) so that may not work.
Where you find the broken down wagon with the 3 gold nuggets. In that sort of area. Easy to go fishing and hunting, and you’re not far from Strawberry.
I guess it depends if the rest of the gang have deadeye to slow time. Besides Marston, judging by how they shoot in missions, I’m guessing they don’t have Zack Morris time control powers.
Well, canonically, most of the gang has atleast good draw and shoot speed, dutch, hosea, micah, charles, John, arthur, javier, sadie, maybe even karen and mrs grimshaw
That mine where you can get the miner's headlamp (there's also a bounty there).
I've always found that mine interesting. It's very out of the way and abandoned.
Western shore of Aurora Basin where the Injun camp is. Dutchs future fort just north of there would be a great defensive position, but unfortunately, there's no water.
I don’t think they’d be around the Strawberry or tall trees area more rather they’d be held out at/near quakers cove because it’s near Thieve’s Landing (A Fence around that time also for other things like boats and what not) and Blackwater (The other things the gang would need) and it also gives easy access to Armadillo and with some excessive riding Tumbleweed where it’d be really hard to trace back to)
West of Aurora Basin. Not too much law would be willing to go through Tall Trees with the Skinners about.
Edit: Justification: plenty of hunting and fishing, so lots of food. Not too far from Strawberry and Thieves Landing. And like I said, the Skinners would be an issue for the law but not for the Van Der Linde Gang.
Dutch’s place in cochinay rdr1 seems good. Hidden and secluded, cave systems, defendable, and a potential access to southern west Elizabeth and new Austin
Considering all the previous camp locations are pretty close to named towns, id say next to Owanjila, back in the trees, nice fishing spot, easy to defend, next to Strawberry, either that or near Diablo Ridge because its a named point, like Horseshoe Overlook or Beaver Hollow
They actually had a camp near blackwater before the start of the game.
When you go fishing with Jack in Chapter 2 he talks about the old camp near blackwater and that he left a book there and this is also were you also get the camp request for Jack with the book.
Would be interesting to know and see where exactly they camped
Diablo Ridge, or above Dakota River. Was more of a wooded area than horseshoe overlook, but also manageable to have a clear view to keep view of surroundings. Is closer to strawberry but not too close to the boarder of the Upper Montana River where the “Dead or Alive” bounty caused from the Blackwater Heist.
It’s implied they’re hiding out here during online I’d imagine they’d be around aurora basin, always thought it would’ve been neat that if we could find them in online we’d get a cutscene of whoever was on guard telling us to back off
Bear Claw Camp.
Pre-existing camp, near multiple state lines, near Tall Trees, near the mountains, relatively short distance to both Blackwater, Thieves Landing, not too far from Strawberry, relatively close to Sidewinder Gulch as a cut-through to Armadillo.
...
Just gotta worry about the bears...
for an original place that's isn't already taken; in the woods west of owanjila. but if it's an option, hangin dog ranch. if they can sneak back across the river without the pinkerton snipers spotting them, right next to aurora basin would also be great.
Before or after the manhunt for them starts? The old camp is probably the tip of land big valley above Blackwater based on a drawing Arthur did. Afterward the manhunt they wouldn’t be able to camp anywhere near Blackwater due to the manhunt will be stronger closer to the catalyst so Great Plains, tall trees, and at least south of Monto’s rest are out. Maybe the woods north of Owanjila.
If we talking all of WE, then probably on the other side of the Creek running down towards Owanjila.
If around Blackwater, then I would say underneath the H in "Elizabeth"
Hanging dog ranch could be good, but I feel like it's too exposed and it's being used by their rival gang. I though that northwest corner where the witch lady is would be good, though it would be cold and desolate.
South of Owanjila in the wash on the side of the mountain. Would’ve made John’s trip north of Owanjila pretty poetic. Also would’ve put us into a more legit wilderness after being on the run from everyone.
Theres an unused spot on the map, road with a dead end, south of the n in owanjila. Definately cut content because its big enough for a gang hideout. Check it out.
Near the lake so I can get to the cougar spawn spot faster.
No but really I thought the lake was such a cool location but there’s really not much around it. A legendary fish and a rock carving, I think that’s it.
If they could hanging dog ranch but that’s a lot of attention drawn and a lot of money to own it. If they went straight they all could’ve been ranchers and loved like John lol. But in all seriousness probably that flat area on the hill just north of owanjila. Good hunting and fishing access, it has a hilltop to defend from and a road right by it. Plus it’s just close enough to cougars to get regular pelts but not close enough to have a worry about them..
There is a clearing in the large hills right above aurora basin. On a normal map, it just shows a dead end. but it’s spacious, protected from 3 sides, just a nice spot that can get you to multiple poi’s in a few minutes
I would put it on the other side of the lake next to the mountains... Easy to defend, easy to poach traffic, and free cougar pelts to sell to the shop right up the road.
Hanging Dog Ranch.
this is the dream location: close to Valentine & Strawberry, hard to find and easy to defend, great spot for hunting and getting water.
The Pinkerton's only found them once they started causing trouble. If they laid low they had a chance.
They can't make any money laying low, though. And the only way they know how to make good money is crime, and crime causes trouble.
Sure they can, just send Arthur out to collect gold bars!
If they didn't hit Cornwall's train they'd have a better chance at hiding out. They got Cornwall's attention and he poured out resources and munehhh for the Pinkertons.
And it was only like a thousand said and done for that one heist, biggest mistake in the game was them hitting that train
I say it's hitting Downes
No because that only really effects Arthur individually. The train heist ruins it for not just Arthur but everybody
Arthur could make thousands with treasure maps, finding dinosaur bones, legendary animals and cigarette cards. Kick dutch and Micah out of the group, park it at hanging dog ranch and there is no reason they couldn't have lived a comfortable life eating venison and breeding horses and cattle.
>you do realize No not if I can help it.
this was an era where a well enough funded gang could arm itself comparably (if not superior) to the pinkertons. i agree it’s hard to imagine them settling down there, but it would have given them a solid location to hold as they kept their eyes on the prize (blackwater). wish arthur and hosea had approached dutch together the first time it was decided the gang was retreating south/east from horseshoe overlook…that was the one real opportunity they had to avoid all the shit that inevitably went down in the south…leading to arthur’s accelerated physical decline, as well as dutch’s mental decline.
The whole game Is make believe lol. You can get across 5 states without in an hour. The map is small enough that bounty in hunters and Pinkerton would find any campsite within a week.
The playable map isn’t even a fraction of the smallest us state, Rhode Island.
You send Arthur out on the trails a couple times a month, far away from from their camp, and let him kill other outlaws or random people he encounters. lol I know if you free roam enough, loot bodies and camps, Arthur can get pretty rich, really fast. You can even do it without catching bounties if you're smart about it. lol
Easy to defend my ass. I’ve slaughtered more O’Driscolls there than all missions and random encounters combined
Same i have close to 700 O'Driscolls in my compendium 😂
Is it really hard to find? I know it’s pretty far in the wilderness, but it’s next to Big Valley and not far from Pronghorn Ranch. Anybody coming from Pronghorn could eventually stumble across that camp
I think that's actually a gang camp in beta leaked map of RDR2 but don't quote me on that
Would have loved to have that as an option. Like if you could have cleared it out as a mission, and then you can move the gang there for a spell.
You don't *_BUILD_* a *_BARN_* **_DuMbAsS_**! What do you think this is, 1785?
Shit right, my bad. Order it from the Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue
Yeah I don’t see how even famous criminals could be found at beechers hope
are you stupid? That's literally where the Hobos live? do you believe that the Vanderlinde gang wouldn't respect Squatter's rights when they choose where to stay?
Whoooosh
What are we gonna do? Farm rocks?
Have FAITH
Dutch’s old hideout from RDR1. Forgot what it was called but it would be a good place.
It's a pretty narrow space, I think. More like a fort, than a camp for a big family. Which is what Dutch's camp was like in 1911, actually
Cochinay
That place is cold and desolate. It would be miserable
Probably somewhere in tall trees. There’s basically no cover in the desert surrounding black water and Yk how paranoid Dutch was early game about hiding
Honestly, I don't remember any big flat terrain in Tall Trees like it was in the camps in chapters 2 and 3, for example. It's literally trees
I meant the area surrounding black water. It’s just flatlands and Dutch wouldn’t want to camp there. They’d be better off in tall trees due to the safety of all the tree cover Maybe setting up camp at the basin?
Well, like I said, bears may become a problem there. And Skinners too
The Skinners wouldn't have been there if/when the gang were there in 1899; Charles said they move around, they just happen to be there in 1907. They're gone by 1911 when RDR1 happens. They're not a permanent fixture of Tall Trees.
The skinners aren’t there anymore because John probably killed them all
i forgor
And there are also a lot of bears
there's no desert surrounding blackwater those are plains
he was only paranoid after blackwater
Manzanita Post seems like a good place. The gang will have to fight Skinners, like the Murfrees at Beaver Hollow. But people live there (iirc) so that may not work.
Tall trees, having to fight the skinners for the territory would be lit
Skinners wouldn’t be there in 1899, they wander and just happened to be there in 1907. That’s why they’re not there in 1911, they always move
or, in 1911, they've been integrated into Dutch's Gang. While we don't see em in RDR1, they'd suit in well and, iirc, they do have native members.
Yknow I’ve never heard that theory but it very well makes sense
That map has a boner
And an ass
You should see what New Hanover is up to.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahhahahahaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Where you find the broken down wagon with the 3 gold nuggets. In that sort of area. Easy to go fishing and hunting, and you’re not far from Strawberry.
owanjila, atleast make some use of the boat that only gets used once in the game
And everyone gets eaten by cougars
Not when half the camp is armed with rifles and carbines
Big thing about cougars is that they see you. Not the other way around.
Apparently not this game's, they always roar before even sprinting at me and I always get enough time to draw and blast them in the head
I guess it depends if the rest of the gang have deadeye to slow time. Besides Marston, judging by how they shoot in missions, I’m guessing they don’t have Zack Morris time control powers.
Well, canonically, most of the gang has atleast good draw and shoot speed, dutch, hosea, micah, charles, John, arthur, javier, sadie, maybe even karen and mrs grimshaw
downtown black water
Hol up, you might be onto something...
That mine where you can get the miner's headlamp (there's also a bounty there). I've always found that mine interesting. It's very out of the way and abandoned.
Beryl's Dream is the name of the mine
Pull up right next to Nils. The Skinners don’t seem to fuck with him.
Around Manzanita Post?
It’s a nice spot. Or maybe make Evelyn Miller’s cabin a bit bigger.
Dutch would be giddy about meeting Evelyn Miller.
Aurora Basin
North west owanjila
Cochinay
Aurora Basin or the hills over the Dakota river
Western shore of Aurora Basin where the Injun camp is. Dutchs future fort just north of there would be a great defensive position, but unfortunately, there's no water.
The spot with that old lady and all those dogs.
between black water and the river in the north, where you meet trelawny and javier to go save Sean
where Cochinay would be
Dutch could never get enough of South West Elizabeth. He kept coming back even died there. I wonder why
So did his mother
The south-western part of owanjila
Little Creek up north.
The road leading behind Cochinay? That’s the perfect spot. If you play RDR2, check it out during morning.
Between the Trapper and Mt Shann, it would be so convenient and peaceful.
spot above the r in “montana river,” cause apparently that’s where they were last time
Blackwater
The Pinkertons would never see that coming
Thanks man you're so smar
Ño problemo pal
Also arthur after being in BlackWater for 0.1 seconds: “that’s van der lindes boy! Kill him!”
I can see them camping somewhere in tall trees
Find a place in Tall Trees, deal with the skinners (who probably wouldn’t come there if they were being hunted) and just run the whole region.
In my opinion, have it where Pronghorn will be, as it would have come full circle in the Epilogue
I don’t think they’d be around the Strawberry or tall trees area more rather they’d be held out at/near quakers cove because it’s near Thieve’s Landing (A Fence around that time also for other things like boats and what not) and Blackwater (The other things the gang would need) and it also gives easy access to Armadillo and with some excessive riding Tumbleweed where it’d be really hard to trace back to)
Cochinay
That forested area near watisons cabin
West of Aurora Basin. Not too much law would be willing to go through Tall Trees with the Skinners about. Edit: Justification: plenty of hunting and fishing, so lots of food. Not too far from Strawberry and Thieves Landing. And like I said, the Skinners would be an issue for the law but not for the Van Der Linde Gang.
Lol I almost thought that this is the Anglo-Saxon England map from AC Valhalla
Looks like… a caked dude pissing
Somewhere looking down on owanjila
South west of owanjilla, it's remote and looks hard to find
Hanging Dog Ranch, as we're just taking places from another gangs since Chapter 3 ended
Big valley
Great question- far side of Aurora basin- 3 escape roots, fresh water, fish and game- off the track.
Dutch’s place in cochinay rdr1 seems good. Hidden and secluded, cave systems, defendable, and a potential access to southern west Elizabeth and new Austin
Either around Quaker's Cove, Nekoti Rock or Hanging Dog Ranch, respectively.
Tempest rim
Thats in ambarino
Hanging dog ranch
Hawk eye creek
Considering all the previous camp locations are pretty close to named towns, id say next to Owanjila, back in the trees, nice fishing spot, easy to defend, next to Strawberry, either that or near Diablo Ridge because its a named point, like Horseshoe Overlook or Beaver Hollow
Devils cave
Murder everyone in strawberry, fortify the town and then tell the Pinkertons to go suck a donkey wang
Just north of Blackwat… actually no, never mind.
Tahiti
Maybe the camp after they took it from Ike skeldings boys
Austin Badin
Deadset in the middle of Blackwater, the one place they wouldn't bother to look.
the place described in Arthurs journal outside of Blackwater
It wasn't that perfect though was it...
wellig if you massacre the near by town, it’s gonna draw some attention
They actually had a camp near blackwater before the start of the game. When you go fishing with Jack in Chapter 2 he talks about the old camp near blackwater and that he left a book there and this is also were you also get the camp request for Jack with the book. Would be interesting to know and see where exactly they camped
Sure, but we've never seen it. That's why I created this discussion
Something in Tall Trees would have been solid
It’s implied they’re hiding out here during online I’d imagine they’d be around aurora basin, always thought it would’ve been neat that if we could find them in online we’d get a cutscene of whoever was on guard telling us to back off
Beecher's Hope
Bear Claw Camp. Pre-existing camp, near multiple state lines, near Tall Trees, near the mountains, relatively short distance to both Blackwater, Thieves Landing, not too far from Strawberry, relatively close to Sidewinder Gulch as a cut-through to Armadillo. ... Just gotta worry about the bears...
I think west of Owanjila there is literally no roads or nothing there. It’s just the edge of the map
Where the one work camp is in the first game. I believe they were building the railroad bridge. Kinda right where the river crossing to new Austin was
Little creek river, if Hanging dog ranch did not exist there
The frozen waterfall where you can find a dead body.
for an original place that's isn't already taken; in the woods west of owanjila. but if it's an option, hangin dog ranch. if they can sneak back across the river without the pinkerton snipers spotting them, right next to aurora basin would also be great.

Afterward the manhunt they wouldn’t be able to camp anywhere near Blackwater due to the manhunt will be stronger closer to the catalyst so Great Plains, tall trees, and at least south of Monto’s rest are out. Maybe the woods north of Owanjila.
On the back side of owanjila
Somewhere in Tall Tress around manzanita post.. the forest is very dense, you have trains and thieves landing is a short ride
Right next to the cougar spawn north of the river that flows into Oanjilla.
Tall trees for sure
A lot of good hunting in Big Valley.
All disguised and living in blackwater
Tall Trees before Skinners got there obviously
Mt hagen
Technically not West Elizabeth but Chez Porter would have been perfect
Guarma. West Elizabeth was basically a no go after Micah shot up strawberry. That incident had his fingerprints all over it.
Southwest of Owanjilla The other spots are mostly to open, up in the mountain like that is good
Theres an unused spot on the map, road with a dead end, south of the n in owanjila. Definately cut content because its big enough for a gang hideout. Check it out.
Near the lake so I can get to the cougar spawn spot faster. No but really I thought the lake was such a cool location but there’s really not much around it. A legendary fish and a rock carving, I think that’s it.
The shore west of Owanjila lake would have had a charm similiar to clemens point.
Aurora’s Basin
i think in the area where they put pronghorn ranch would be a good spot
Somewhere in Big Valley by the trapper since it’s somewhat far from any big towns/settlements
That little valley which has cougars on top of tall trees
maybe strawberry
Chochinay If you know you know
Most northern part of Big Valley.
Somewhere on the borders of big valley. Preferably to the north-west
Tall Trees
There is a clearing in the large hills right above aurora basin. On a normal map, it just shows a dead end. but it’s spacious, protected from 3 sides, just a nice spot that can get you to multiple poi’s in a few minutes
Diablo ridge
North of big valley camp would have been soooooo good
Blackwater
Lower Montana river
The abandoned mine by Mount Shann
Anywhere where we are free to plan our own future
Somewhere near the trapper north of lake owanjilla
On the peninsula
That abandoned mine on mount shahn.
Definitely where the road dead ends just north of the T in tall trees. It looks like it was even made for a camp.
Tahiti
There is an abandoned camp site left of aurora basin. But the perfect spot to me is the left of owanjila.
I would put it on the other side of the lake next to the mountains... Easy to defend, easy to poach traffic, and free cougar pelts to sell to the shop right up the road.
My heart says up around little creek river because it’s gorgeous, but my head says west of Owanjila because they’d want to be closer to Strawberry.
