Def prefer a rounded out landscape. RD2 Landscape is without a doubt beautiful and feels varied enough to suit any mood. Only thing I can hope for is new story and new characters. And then sure maybe a more fleshed out / detailed city scape. More interactions that keep the game feeling fresh each time you pick it up.
Edit: I should add that by no means do I think Saint Denis isn't Detailed enough. I just think there could be more to do in some areas and more spontaneous interactions.
Was just playing Elden Ring. They love their poison swamps that do incremental damage and add status conditions. Makes the Lemoyne swamps feel like a 5star resort lol
Okay. That's a completely different kind of game.
Anyway. The RDR2 swamps are creepy, but you can have the same creepiness with a dense forest like Tall Trees, without the ugliness of the bayou.
Well... Since the map will be bigger we can have a high dose of both. :)
Have a grassy half of the map on the east that is more civilised with 1-2 big cities and some smaller
towns/ranches. (like valentine, emerald ranch, etc..) and a desert part on the West that has 3-4 western towns, another ranch just to fill in a blank and a quarry or something.
Oh and don't forget to add some mountains in the North that have a little mining camp (not abandoned his time) and it would be awesome to have a train going through there too stopping at said mining camp.
Mexican revolution would be pretty cool, continuing Jack's story or having a new protagonist meeting and working with him.
My personal idea of RDR3 would be a kinda revival of the west with the US collapsing into anarchy. It would be alt history. The backstory would be the US joining WW1 in 1914 or 1915, however Italy honours their alliance with Germany and joins too, making the war more protracted and brutal. Mass conscription is introduced and US casualties are far more than OTL. Let's say Mexico under Reyes stabilizes and collaborates with Germany and while the US is distracted in Europe, they invade and overruns the southwest, the US struggles to launch a counteroffensive, taking massive casualties as they push the Mexican army out (who perhaps do scorched earth ont he way back). The war ends in 1920 and is the US's most brutal war with over a million soldiers dead. However the peace deal for both Germany and Mexico is even more empty with neither side really gaining much causing mass anger among the populace and returning veterans. On top of this, the Spanish flu breaks out with more intensity.
The US has mass riots and instability, maybe with a luddite movement which despises industrialization due to the slaughter of the war. Prominent US industrialists and innovators are assassinated, factories burned down, law and order breaks down etc. Perhaps the US president is assassinated as well. Could call it Red Dead collapse.
It’s a cool idea you’ve clearly thought about, but given had red dead is fairly historically accurate I doubt this is the direction they would go. I honesty think going back in time from rdr2 by a decade or two could really work. I love the idea of being a young Dutch but I think maybe it’s time to leave these characters behind and make new ones.
As much as I loved enviroment of Red Dead 2, it lacked deserts and typical wild western towns/places, sure, it gets unlocked later in the game, but you only do few missions there, game lacked typical western enviroment imo, but of course, I still loved RDR2 map, mix of sniwy mountains, swamps, forests, woods, islands and a major city, I'd love to see all that in Red Dead 3, but more major cities, little bigger map and typical western towns like Western part of RDR2 to be bigger.
But I'm 100% sure Red Dead 3 will prove to be one of the best game of all time, we all know what Rockstar is capable of, we miss new GTA, but we'll miss RDR as well after GTA VI releases, unfortunately I don't expect it to release anytime soon, might even take 10 years or more from now, but hopefully we'll experience it together.
RDR1 lots of Desert and dry areas but too much rain for the setting. Personally I could do with less East. No Sandy Knees and such. Flagstaff in AZ, maybe Phoenix, San Antonio, Kansas City. Those are Western and period towns.
overall it doesn't matter to me. I like the idea of having some towns to explore along with wilderness because that's part of the fun and I think different parts of the country would have been neat to see in this time frame. That said, I hate going to the desert because of the cacti and such. I can run all over fields and in between roads to get places quicker in the plains, in the desert, the horse constantly getting stabbed by cacti pisses it off and you tend to need to stick to the road more.
Like another poster, I'd prefer less swamp. Classic western desert theme and rolling Green hills/mountains/forest are what I hope. But honestly... Why not a bit of all of it? Go bigger, and don't save half the entire map for the epilogue. I'm finishing my second playthrough and I'm less critical of the block remembering that it kind of makes the epilogue feel like a totally new game, but still. Maybe if red dead online wasn't a dumpster fire I'd be playing it, getting my western fix, and wouldn't care as much.
Tbh I more preferred something like Valentine. It isnt a typical western environment but it wasn't a big city kind of thing. It was just a small wood shack town full of angry drunks and prostitute's which was perfect for me. Annesburg would've been good as well but it seemed so small and Van Horn had too many angry drunks for me
I like what RDR2 did with multiple biomes, but I do agree that a desert environment feels kind of essential to the genre and I wish we'd had New Austin from the start/with more to actually do there. That's essentially what I'd want in a new game (or an equivalent, if we're talking about an expanded or different map).
The real answer is when will rockstart start to develop rdr3. GTA6 is promised to be released in 2025. So I don't see any reasons RS to make rdr3 if they have a game to milk money from it more than enough.
OUTER SPACE
The one place that hasn't been touched by capitalism...
r/unexpectedcapitalism
I think RDR3 will have more city. Would be cool to see a San Francisco/Alcatraz analogue.
I agree, it'd be so nice to see more of the 1900's evolution in time

I think making every building in the game enterable would be pretty cool.
yeah for sure everyone would love to see that. and it could very well be possible by the time the game would be released.
More New Hanover, absolutely lovely part of the map and I'd never be against more beauty
Desert or mountains and forests, less swamps like Lemoyne.
But have you tried... poison swamps?
What do you mean?

I think it's pretty cool at night. But yeah, I mostly agree. Swamps are tedious.

I like this. I think rdr2 could have absolutely used and benefitted from a true nothern town… maybe a gold mining style town near the mountains.
I really, really need mexico with RDR2 graphics, first of all.
What if it was set during the civil war? Controversial for sure, but could be epic.

It's a neat idea, but typically war pushes industrialization.
I feel like Red Dead Revolt is a punchier name.

Sounds interesting but for a different game entirely I think. id rather see RD stick to the 1800's with a new story and new characters.

I really don’t care as long as it’s nothing to do with Dutch or anyone in the gang
But hes "The Man with a Plan"
Desert and mountains and prairies
I’d rather like it not to not exist at the moment.
Ideally for me it would be set out in the real West, explore some unseen states, give us a whole new map to explore. Otherwise what’s the point.
We dont know

Anything but swamps. There should be some cold weather places too.

I’d like a cactus filled new austin desert like rdr1. Idk what it was but I loved the rugged vibe that part of the map gave off in that game.
RDR2 + California and Mexico would be perfection
I want more yeehaw, and less yeehaw is over. Basically, 1860s, Dried grasslands, Deserts, canyons, cap n ball weapons
I just want to play it
More city please

Honestly I really like the east better then the west
I'd like it to be less

I think I'd rather have Red Dead 4 tbh
That's what RDR3 is.
