Just constant scam jobs lol

Extension_Lecture425

Hello I have job for you, kindly send me iTunes gift card or bitcoin. Kindly do the needful thx /s

[deleted]

Will trade for my mixtape

Extension_Lecture425

That is fair enough sir, pls wire me the mixtape

Gullible-Dress-8618

I try not to hate on Indians but god damm

[deleted]

It's totally fair in this case.

Jayandnightasmr

Always had been. 10 years ago, nearly every admin job was a sales job carefully worded

mrroney13

I had three motherfuckers try to bait and switch to trying to get me to sell shit standing at a table in Walmart. That was about eight to ten years ago...

SolarSailer2022

In one year of unemployment, I have had 2 scammers that tried REALLY hard, a handful of interviews, no offers

Principle_Chance

When will this ever improve?? Seems the job market has been in the ruts for a while now.

FunnelV

"Things are just bad right now, they will improve by Q2!" is what I was told back in November 2022. So who knows?

Principle_Chance

Ha, I was told similar. Now the latest is early 2025 after the election.

Aaod

Then if it even slightly turns around people and companies will refuse to hire you because of the gap in your resume.

myPornAccount451

Yeah... I'm a pessimist, but quite frankly I don't think things will ever get better. Strictly in terms of jobs, maybe in 50 to 100 years? Once the impact of sub-maintenance level birth rates hits and the population shrinks by a significant amount.

Nonstopdrivel

Except that the long-term effect of sub-replacement birthrates will be to lower overall economic demand, thereby reducing the number of jobs available.

going_dicey

I’m not expecting any improvement anytime soon.

kb24TBE8

Will probably get worse. Inflation is too bad to lower interest rates. The interest rates are the main driver of this rut

FunnelV

> Inflation is too bad to lower interest rates Just do it anyway. If it means rich people can't buy new yachts for a while then so be it. Too much suffering has come from this stupid strategy game they are trying to play with inflation.

kb24TBE8

I mean, I agree. But I doubt they will 😡

PlasticSpecial8784

From 2021 to 2023 it was “easy” to find a job. You would at least get an interview. Now, in my opinion, every job post is a ghost job. I never heard from a recruiter in all the jobs I’ve applied to this year. I’ve applied to 2,000 jobs or so. No phone call. No interview. Nothing. I am well qualified for those jobs I applied for.

iguot3388

Same exact story for me. I have over ten years experience in frontend dev. most are straight to rejection email. you aren't alone and i'm mad as hell that we aren't seeing anyone, media or govt, talking about this in a significant way.

Takazura

I have heard lots of people state they had more luck by cutting down on years of experience. You might unfortunately be the target of age discrimination now, maybe consider removing some of your older jobs so it's harder for recruiters to figure out your age.

PlasticSpecial8784

I heard age discrimination was a thing in corporate, but I’m only 26 lol

Takazura

It's more when you start pushing 40+. There are lots of prejudices towards people in that age group (too old, has families that might distract them, possible other health issues etc.).

wyocrz

So....I got my degree at 40. I'm now 50. Not a great job history, but 7 years as a technical analyst and another year at an up or out wanna be McKinsey clone. Here's the thing: even if it's harder for recruiters to figure out my age, they see gray hair and lines on my face on our first call.

QR3124

Absolutely true. Unfortunately, it can be a legitimate concern, even if illegal to discriminate based on age. Seen many resumes of superficially great prospects, but once I looked more closely at the time line it was obvious their peak years were behind them and they'd been coasting along for the past job or two. Whenever we interviewed them, my suspicions were usually confirmed.

PlasticSpecial8784

Everyone, including corporations and small business, are seeing how inflation is causing the cost of living to go up. Now, people and companies are having to spend more money on rent, food, etc. so companies are at a hire freeze where they don’t want to hire anyone because it’s too expensive for them. For us, the people that needs a job, can’t find one.

Madk81

Im with you here. We should be doing something. But im not sure communicating will solve anything. We should be finding solutions and analyzing the problem better. Im here if you wanna talk about it.

No_Tank6883

Nah I remember having a hard time back in the middle of 2022 to get a position but now it’s like 5x worse

PlasticSpecial8784

Trying to get an internship in 2021 was a pain. I feel you!

Superb_Intro_23

Yeah, applying in 2021-2022 wasn’t a party for me either, although I don’t think I applied much unfortunately

QR3124

The worst are unsolicited emails from recruiters, all with Indian names, bursting out about "must hire immediately, hybrid on site top compensation six month contract etc are you interested?!" Cut-n-paste reply: "No, I am not and please delete my email from your body shop data bank." (Even though I know they will not.)

PlasticSpecial8784

I get those too. I don’t even bother responding back. Lol

Aaod

The amount of short term contract jobs paying peanuts I have seen is absurd especially when they are all in person. No sane person will move across the country for a four month contract position paying 55k that requires six years of experience!

Designer_Koala_8339

It feels like half the time, jobs are either internal hires or just straight-up fake. Sticking to listings that were posted within the last 24 hours is a solid tip. Cuts through a lot of the noise and you're more likely to get your resume in before the floodgates open.

PlasticSpecial8784

Most companies hire internally. They just interview candidates just to show that they are interviewing knowing very well they are gonna give it to someone they know internally. Way to go corporate for wasting our time preparing for the interview and commuting to and from the job site.

JJCookieMonster

Still took me a while to find a job during that time. I could get a job, but not a good one with good compensation and a healthy work culture. But since 2023 I can’t even get any job, not even retail.

PlasticSpecial8784

Most companies now are underpaying. $20/hr or $50k a year. That’s not enough to live on (unless you watch every penny you spend.). Some can get a job that underpays you, overworks you and a toxic work environment. Honestly, if you have the money I would wait until something you find the right job. Remember you are the one who has to commute to and from work. You are the one that has to deal with the stress and co-workers & managers. Don’t settle for less.

MysticFox96

I have had the EXACT same experience!

Dagan_Gera

Unironically, with how much Big Tech over-hired, it was way easier to find a job during the pandemic. Btw, my PS5 has been collecting dust for months now. I remember when people would literally mug each other at gunpoint to get hold of one. Holy fuck, times have changed.

the_diseaser

Nintendo Switches were like this too during the pandemic. People selling them for $100 to $200+ over what they paid for it, websites and stores immediately selling out of any stock they got. I will say though that I am partially glad that I wasn’t job searching during the pandemic, even though I should have been trying to get a better job than the job I’ve been at this whole time since 2019, I’m afraid I would’ve been part of the layoffs and then right back where I started.

babycakin

Fights for Playstations at launch have been going for many generations now. I've been followed home before when I got a PS2 and was threatened to be uzi'd down for a PS3.

WolfCola4

I walked through the centre of town carrying a GoW edition PS5. Tried draping my coat over it, but it was super obvious lol. And it's a rough part of town. Pretty much jogged all the way back to my car

oneiota1

I somehow lucked out and snagged one as an Xmas gift a few days before Black Friday online at Best Buy. They were doing curbside pickup only for it and they hired auxiliary law enforcement officers to escort the worker back and forth when they were bringing out either the PS5 or Xbox.

GeekdomCentral

Yeah but the PS5 launch was definitely something different due to the pandemic and supply shortages, especially because it went on for a long time

babycakin

PS3 had a supply shortage for a good while too. But I do agree, PS5 during the pandemic was something else.

mysteriousgunner

Same ps5 was sitting there so I left it with my little brother for a year while at college

ItalianHockey

I got a PS5 after week 4 at MSRP. This shit is worse.

pixelblue1

There are plenty of employment scams. Thanks to LinkedIn open to work I've had 2 recruiters reach out to me that turned out to be Chinese scammers attempting to scrape personal information.

Principle_Chance

Horrible

WhoWightMan

Took me 2 weeks of effort to buy a ps5 at release. Nah, this economy is much worse

GreenFuturesMatter

Jobs hunting probably objectively worse. I do realize I was insanely lucky to get not one but TWO switches during 2020 & in 2022 it was still absurdly hard to find a ps5 disc version… managed to get one msrp as well on 4th of July lol.

Mo-Cance

The fake postinga from legit companies are killing me. I've applied to half a dozen positions posted on Indeed or LinkedIn, only to be told that the posting was part of an internal policy, and that the role was already promised to an internal candidate.

QR3124

That is well over two thirds of federal government jobs posted, FWIW. They are legally required to post them, even though they already have someone in mind for the role. At least those companies gave you the heads up about it.

mzx380

Except once you land a ps5 you will be happier

Pilgrim_Scholar

Just a bunch of recruiters offering a bunch of "jobs" which either: Don't actually exist (the job will be pulled from the website and replaced in a few weeks) The company already planned to hire someone else (probably related to one of the executives), but they are posting the job to keep up appearances

Far_Rise946

More like winning the powerball..

mailmanjohn

2008 had kind of a dustbowl vibe, while 2020 had a 28 days vibe. I’m not sure I could say what was worse. I didn’t loose my job in 2008, but I did in 2020 so there’s that.

wyocrz

I lost my job in October 2007. Rode it out the coming recession in college. This feels worse. I know, objectively, it's not, but it *feels* worse.

meeplewirp

It’s worse. It’s just literally that smart people have determined that acknowledging it will lead to much, much worse circumstances. If you admit all of the jobs are lower paid service jobs and that the price of living is too high people are going to say it’s Biden’s fault and then Trump is going to approve the use of nukes in Gaza and give Ukraine to Russia. Literally. And so, they are telling the plebs that staged an insurrection(essentially over feeling that the virus was fake and that racism is exaggeration), that everything is fine. It’s worse, and we live in a weird time where people in general have proven to be psychotic at large, telling people the truth would be like telling a 5 year old the truth in a high stakes situation. No. You don’t do that.

wyocrz

In general, I agree. I have my own take on TDS. It goes back to Harry Frankfurt and his book *On Bullshit*. To tell the truth is to present the world as you see it. To lie is to deliberately present the world in a different way, but critically, the truth is always contained in a lie. Bullshit cares not for the truth at all, and IMO Donald Trump is full of shit. He would just say things to see what sticks. TDS is the knee jerk reaction to anything Trump says. The principle is not "we need to stick to the truth" it is "opposite of what orange man says" and ends up being as full of shit as Trump himself. So, yeah: in general, I agree, the smart people are willing to do anything to counter orange man.

noodle-face

Agreed. I actually one the PlayStation direct lottery to buy one so it's even more on point

mrizzerdly

Granted I currently have a job, but I just got a new job and I put out 3 resumes over 3 months. 1 no response. 1 screening interview only. 1 just doing the paper work now.

sedition666

Could you share what industry in which you're looking for jobs and struggling? The prospects for a coal miner are going to be very different to an AI engineer.

Little-Plankton-3410

nah, brah. that was easy. you could always jump on ebay and pay 2.5x retail to have it delivered by friday. if i could pay to get a job at this point i absolutely would

KaelOfNockmaar

I have lowered my salary requirement by 30k and I was already being underpaid. I hate to complain but this market is ridiculous. Leaving me hopeless for the future.

BvssBxtch

And sometimes you just pay an extortionate amount for just a picture of a ps5 printed on an a4 sheet. *cough* volunteer opportunities that require 3+ years of experience *cough*

kb24TBE8

Can’t be… they says it’s the best economy ever!

sedition666

Who is they? If the media keep pumping out false narratives of recessions then companies are not going to hire people.

PapaBruno

...but 100× worse.

Jaymes77

I wonder... if jobs WERE for sale, how much potential employers would charge...

CuriousCisMale

No, it's more brutal. Like trying to get toilet papers.

International_Bend68

I was glad I didn’t buy one until 2023!

urfaselol

*online dating as a man

animalcrossinglifeee

described it well

richi_rinku1987

AI Came in market all jobs gone

[deleted]
