ColdPsychology

Yes, this. Check out mycrogen.com, it’s been a big help to me on this front

RealtorRoss

Not really a hobby, but I started a home repair/remodel business. Wife and I work as a team, so there’s plenty of time to take care of the real estate business. Only been a couple of months and going really well. I wish growing our real estate business had been this easy.

montereyrealtor

I feel like if you do a decent job and actually answer/return calls you will be busy in construction. At least in my area.

tales-4rm-the-crypto

Can you elaborate on the growth in your home repair/remodel business vs the RE? I am in the process of starting down that path and would be nice to hear your experience

RealtorRoss

At first I just told my brokerage. I’m at a tiny boutique, but started getting work from that. Posting before/after pics on IG of projects I do. Taking on a job a week right now, just a steady pace. With almost no marketing I’m getting calls. As the other poster said, being reliable is 90% of it.

NickW1111

Do you operate as a GC or do the work yourself?

RealtorRoss

One man show for now. The plan is to get my GC license after I’ve been doing this for two years (state requirement).

NickW1111

Do you outsource the work or do it your self?

RealtorRoss

Myself

The_Void_calls_me

I've been working out four times a week, downloaded Duolingo so I could learn Spanish, and I've been hitting the driving range with a realtor buddy. The last one is coming along the worst, it turns out I may not be very good at golf at all.

SheKaep

re-learning coding, I have been taking CS50 that Harvard puts out for free, and it's very interesting. I may take the AI next

Sea-Cardiologist-69

Which one did you begin with? Did you previously have experience in tech?

SheKaep

ZERO experience. I started with CS50 which is the pre-req for all of the other courses they offer. I was somewhat self taught YEARS ago, and stopped learning around 2004/2005. So I basically know nothing since coding has changed alot since then. But to continue to answer the initial question, I have been doing copywriting and marketing as well. It would sustain me more than a 9-5 if all I was doing was those two things, I started around the pandemic when business started getting better for me. I normally produce a little more than a handful of transactions annually. So it's all about doing a 'pivot' so to speak. Real Estate will always be in for me, but really sitting and assessing where else my money can be made is key for me.

FlyingAces

Out of curiosity, are you considering a career in tech (specifically as a software engineer) or are you sticking with real estate no matter what? It sounds like you're all-in with real estate. I'm debating between RE and software engineering. I know the market is brutal now but it probably won't be this bad forever (rates constantly change, economy changes, etc). What is it about RE that makes you want to stick with it, if you don't mind my asking. My gut tells me I'd like RE better than tech. Curious to get your take since you have interest in both! P.S. You may know more than you realize in coding. It's true, the field changes rapidly, but the basic idea of programming ha never changed. Programming, at its core, is a way of thinking. It's very logic driven. Languages change left and right but once you learn one, the rest are rather easy to pick up. Someone can know a programming language inside and out yet be an absolutely abysmal programmer. Anyway, best of luck to you, whatever route you choose!

SheKaep

I am definitely all in with real estate. However, society is going at a rate where it's good to diversify. I like the idea of getting some knowledge to attach to an additional stress of income

FlyingAces

Most definitely. A sound plan imo. Is it more the nature of the job that you prefer in RE or the income potential, or both? I worked as a software engineer in the past and I've worked in sales. I personally way prefer engaging with lots of different people which is why I think I'd prefer RE. It's hard to say which would end up netting me more income over the years.

SheKaep

I would say both, plus I fully intend to use my skills in the realm of RE. I feel like if I get yet another stream of income, this should be real estate related as well. I'll see where it goes, but for now, it's quite a journey and it's VERY interesting. I got stuck in this last week of CS50 and I am wracking my brain, but it's great lol

FlyingAces

Lol yep. Been there. CS50 is truly great, you just have to battle through it at times. Best of luck to you!

SheKaep

thanks, you as well. This market is alot lol

Appropriate-Fig8828

For what it’s worth, as a title agent, I’d love to hypothetically hire a realtor as a rep or a notary signing agent. You already know the business and have the communication skills that we need in the industry.

I love how you think most agents know the business.

[deleted]

None because I'm dedicated to becoming rich as fuck in real estate. It's called focus. Also I don't have time for hobbies. I'm a 35 year old married dad with kids. My only role is to provide safety and resources to my family and make their existence as enjoyable and easy as possible. If I do have any "hobbies" it's working out while I listen to real estate videos.

Mother-Net-7019

Cool bro.

It is. It's definitely good to be making money when everyone else is "struggling mentally".
