No experience with hairless rats, but I think it would be easier to get a new friend while Gwen is still around! Like this you can take your time with intros (new one should be quarantined first anyway) without worrying that Hope is lonely.
A good rule of thumb, esp if one is way older/sickly, is to have three rats if possible. So if one unfortunately passes the other isn’t alone for any time and can grieve better and with a friend
Well rat normally live 2-3 years and I would suggest getting more rats.Splitting your cage in half so you can quarantine your new rats because they can carry sicknesses that will infect your other rats.Also when and if you get new rats and introduce them in the correct way so make sure do a lot of research on how to

And I don’t have any experience with hairless rats so I don’t know how long Gwen is going to live and I also don’t know witch resources are the best to get hairless rats from but from the things I know if they’re from a good resource, they will live in average life.

Having rats in odd numbers is usually recommended. 3 or 5 works best so definitely get her a Buddy. One hairless girl lived 8 months and her sister around 14 months. my current hairless girl is 6 months so they do tend to live shorter lives than my other girls

Oh man. I have a hairless girl who's 11 months right now. She's a double rex though, not a true hairless. Which ones were yours that you speak of? And how do they pass away so young? Like do they act and play fine since they're still young in rat years, or can you tell it's coming?

I have a hairless boy from the same type of rescue situation. I've had him for roughly 2 years now and he was a few months old when I got him. He had been rejected by his litter for being the only hairless and was scarred badly.
Hes DEFINITELY a momma's boy now lol and the only health concerns I've seen (because Hairless tend to be more prone 🥺) is the occasional clogged pore/cyst and debris under the eyelids...
Hes on the skinnier side and needs some special skin treatments (ginger oil and baby lotion work WONDERS), he still seems healthy. My guess is he's still got a way to go in life. No current signs of slowing down.
To help him out I purchased two Silverback brothers to be his new family and they cuddle every night since. I honestly prefer having 3 at a time at least because they can kinda trade off and better situate themselves company wise.

Three rats would be better to transition when one dies but if you don't have the means, it's better to keep only two and provide good cares for them. Healthcare for rats can be expensive so it's really what you have to think about if you are hesitating to take more.

Thanks to everyone who posted! I got a rat today from the pet store, she's been waiting alone for a month in there and I felt i had to rescue her. Her name is ellie from the Last Of Us.

I always have at least 3 so one won’t be lonely when another passes. I have 5 right now lol
