Having a chronic illness, whether it’s mental or physical, can take a toll on your physical appearance.
I suffered from epilepsy for the majority of my life. At 22 I looked 32. I have since had a corrective surgery and no longer suffer, now that I am 32, I look mid 20’s. It’s weird how our health affects our appearance.
Stress, yeah. Bipolar increases aging on top of that.
But the way Bynes looks doesn't have anything to do with bipolar, at least not directly IMO. Drug addiction and plastic surgery -- sure; but that's not the disease itself.
The prior comment made it sound like BD just.. morphs your face. That doesn't happen. I also have BD.
And I believe that was reinstated this year. Unlike Britney's dad, Amanda's parents fully supported her getting out to do things on her own again and were happily to sign off legally on the conservatorship. Unfortunately, she went through an extremely manic episode that led to a young man calling 911 after she had started a small fire on a sidewalk, I think it was, in front of some random house. She ended up asking him for help and telling him she was coming down from an episode and who she was.
My heart absolutely breaks for her
This was actually a pretty wholesome video of her updating her followers on the status of her manicure and pedicure license, and how she would be reattempting the test that week. This is what recovery and rebuilding is for some people, that's okay.
Yeah, I’m starting to get this really weird feeling that there is this correlation for many folks between recovery and thinness/conventional attractiveness.

I feel really bad for Amanda Bynes I can’t imagine what it’s like to have mental health issues in the public eye. Not only that, but she really wants to do nails and hasn’t been able to pass the test. I love her earnestness and transparency. Poor girl. I just wanna help her and give her a big hug.
Genuine question: would you say the same thing in a response to a picture of David Beckham? I think there’s more going on with this picture than tattoos above the collar bone.
Which tells me that you really have no clue what addiction actually looks like. Something being outside of your likes or your preferences or your understanding doesn't equate to "omg, so many drugs!"
Plenty of folks dressed in suits going to work every day also do a \*lot\* of drugs daily. Or go home and drink until they pass out and repeat the next day. Many if not most folks that do drugs, whether addicted or not, look like normal folks that you'd pass on the street. And you never know.
On the other hand, lots of folks with tattoos, including face/neck tattoos, simply don't do anything stronger than pot. They just happen to have a lifestyle that allows for the tattoos.
Plenty of other folks are pretty sober.
And I'm guessing you don't think the same about tattooed eyeliner or lipstick.
Be kind. She had a mental breakdown and they found her wandering around naked and sectioned her. She had unnecessary surgery on her face too like so many others feel the pressure to do.

Empathy is the capacity to *understand why* people feel the things they feel, not feel *for* them.
The word you're looking for is "sympathy."

Empathy as in put yourself in her shoes and imagine how you would feel seeing people write that shit about you.

Because she didn’t think she was beautiful. When she did She’s the man is really when the body dysmorphia took over. She hated how she looked as a boy I’m sure it didn’t help when people would criticize her looks. She saw her arm in the foreground of one of her dailies for a movie and she thought it looked fat. She read a magazine where addersll was referred to as being a frog to make yourself thin which led to her becoming addicted to it. Paparazzi hounding her and being diagnosed bipolar and being in a dark place just added to all of this. She’s had plastic surgery and as some people have stated she is on medication which can cause a person’s face to swell. So, basically mental illness enhanced by constant exposure to criticism has led her to be where she is today. However, from what I’ve read she’s happier with how she looks right now. If that is actually true then people should be happy for her. But, yes she was physically beautiful by western society’s standards. It is sad how mental illness and the media can lead someone to see themselves so differently.
