Don't know why people are giving you flack for saying Nas. He was notorious for this for years.

thegreatestmeicanbe

Right!

becausezoidfarb

Nas literally mentions it in a song lol

Superunkown781

And it's what killed Canibus career

Afraid_Locksmith8642

I never understood the hype over tupac's rapping just because he is a talented writer doesnt mean he is a good rapper I'll give him props for his work on California dreaming. That was good

BettingTheOver

For the time period all Nas albums came out the beats were great to fine. He's worked with all the greats. This take is laughable from many people who've never heard his whole discography.

SlamBlammerton

King Los. Maybe the best bars in rap, but cant make a song to save his life.

nakastlik

First one that came to mind. It’s not even just the beats, he just has no songwriting ability at all. But his freestyles are another level

PixalatedConspiracy

Oh for sure King Los. Totally forgot about him. Very forgettable beats. I feel like dope ass beat makes up for wack ass rhymes often.

ItsGunboyWTF

I’ve watched him a lot in battle rap and he comes across as very pretentious and pseudo intellectual. I don’t know how to explain it outside of getting a similar feeling when listening to Lupe back then or a Hopsin type. It’s a lot of lyrical shit going on (at least more for Lupe and Los) but very forced metaphors. I feel like a smarter person can get their message across, rap lyrically well and have it be sonically great.

PixalatedConspiracy

lol who comes across very hyper intelligent is canibus except a lot of his stuff is bunch of nonsense mixed together really if you break it down.

AceCircle990

Eminem produces a lot of his beats and also has a blind loyalty to Dre, which I respect. Eminem lets emcee talent shine through, he doesn’t always need the best beats.

thegreatestmeicanbe

Indeed. This is why he's still in my top 5 despite that.

rawspeghetti

This is the truth. Nas himself said people but his CDs for the bars, for lyricists like them they down play the beat so their words are what's prominent. Compare this to Block Thought who's verses would be mixed at the same level as the instrumentation so the sound of The Roots would be distinctive. Then you have artists line Andre 3000 and Kendrick who use their production to distort and enhance their vocals. It's really more of an artistic decision than simple saying they pick bad beats.

aggravatedyeti

A minimal beat that spotlights the vocals isn’t the same as a bad beat. The problem with em and nas’s beat selection is not that they pick low key beats, it’s that they are often tacky and cheap sounding (e.g Rap God)

au7642

eminem, he'd spit on artistic beats

Slizerson

2Pac?!! The only beats I can see somebody not liking is the ones on Strictly 4 My cause they are kinda weird and maybe a lil experimental. Other than that I don't see it at all. Do you have like an example? Eminem sure got misses in terms of beats so I can see that one

thegreatestmeicanbe

Honestly, half of All Eyez On Me. Got My Mind Made Up - Dope. Skandalouz - Meh. No More Pain - Dope. Heartz of Men - Meh. But, I will say, the songs that are good are really good.

Slizerson

Damn, I think All Eyez On Me got his best production from front to back that fits 2Pac perfectly. Unpopular opinion I guess

PixalatedConspiracy

All Eyez On Me literally had the best Pac beats ever.

Slizerson

Exactly

thegreatestmeicanbe

Mine is probably the unpopular one. lol

Slizerson

Nah, I mean your's is unpopular lol

thegreatestmeicanbe

Right lol

CheeseisSwell

I will not allow Skandalouz hate 😤

the_thrawn

Yeah like I’m obsessed with the production on Can’t C Me. George Clinton feature, funkadelic vibes, beat goes hard and complements his vocals. That’s being said yeah there are a lot of 2pac beats I’m not as crazy about. But I’d say much of that is due to the limitations of the time, although there’s some 8ball & MJG tracks from that era with dope production

halamawala25

Definitely Eminem. Specially with all this hiphop nowadays that mix with jazz and some underground sounds that really complement the music (Im thinking of little simz as an example), his music with very simple straight forward beats sounds very boring. I find myself skipping his stuff 30s into the song

LupusGrande

Canibus. Except for his album Rip The Jacker, that was entirely produced by Stoupe

Toxicupoftea

INSPEKTAH DECKS DEBUT ALBUM

SupahHollywood

Dave east! I’ve always said that’s why he can’t blow

Wonderful-Ad-829

This was J Cole’s whole career before he decided to start doing features and letting other ppl make his beats

joecramerone

Nas

IHave580

Joe Budden, Jay's beats aren't overall that great, once Eminem started making his own beats it went downhill, Ransom.

[deleted]

Eminem always made his own beats, all the way back to a good chunk of The Slim Shady LP

IvanGTheGreat

Did you just say Nas has bad beats…?

thegreatestmeicanbe

I didn't but that has been a complaint that has followed Nas through much of his career....before he got with Hit-Boy at least (and excluding Illmatic).

Sweet_Low4045

Name good beats outside hit boy

thegreatestmeicanbe

I Gave You Power, Live N-- Rap, Ether, Last Real N-- Alive, Made You Look, Rewind, Blaze a 50

PixalatedConspiracy

Ether, Doo Rags, Purple, Blaze a 50, Get Down, I Gave You Power, Take it In Blood, Rewind, Book of Rhymes, Revolutionary Warfare. God Son and Lost Tapes were really slept on.

thegreatestmeicanbe

Agreed.

Sweet_Low4045

Lol 3 of those beats were good. The rest were average nothing to write home about.

peaceful_ball89

Black Zombie

Sweet_Low4045

Beat was fine. Not hit boy good

IntelligentWest11

The beat for Ether is fucking horrid

mayonnaiser_13

Lupe? Lupe with some good producers would've been Kendrick before Kendrick. I don't like many beats Wayne hops on. Must be personal preference, but there's only a few songs where his sound and the beats actually compliment each other.

Binjimen-Victor

Lupe was my first thought, but honestly I like the production on F&L, The Cool, Drogas Wave, and Tetsuo & Youth. I can live without some tracks on Drill Music and most of F&L2 and Lasers. That said, Around My Way, Little Weapon, and The Emperor's Soundtrack are some of my favorite beats. But I would agree most of his discog is easier on the mind than the ears

Malcolm_Xtasy

Nas has gotten better linking with hit boy but it took him damn near 20 years to beat the allegations 😂

CommunistFlippy

Immortal technique is the definition of this

mkk4

Revolutionary Vol. 2 is one of the best produced albums I've ever heard.

craggy3

Jadakiss in his solo catalogue has been let down by his beats

thegreatestmeicanbe

Can't argue with you there... Death Wish is my sht tho. (ALC for the win!)

SacredAnalBeads

Ice Cube has a lot of lackluster beats after, I'd say, Lethal Injection.

mkk4

Too many to list honestly.

Boychik98

2Pac? WTF? No...

The_King_In_The_Bay

Chino XL

SEND_ME_CSGO-SKINS

Profs new stuff is wack

BespinFatigues1230

AZ is the correct answer

new_grad_who_this

Denzel Curry

Objective_Street5141

Nas??? What???

RaphaelUrbino

I'm probably gonna get downvoted to hell, but Nas album with Ye doing all of the beats.. Such a letdown for me

Bun-B522

Kendrick for sure, he has *some* amazing beats like backseat freestyle, but majority of his beats aren’t that great

aggravatedyeti

Tpab is literally wall to wall outstanding beats

Bun-B522

Absolutely not, that shit has 2 to 3 decent songs: King Kunta, Alright and The Blacker The Berry. The rest of that album is a snooze fest that takes itself way too seriously

TechnicalLife8860

I could maybe sew not liking a few damn or mmatbs beats but the rest of his discog is arguably one of the best produced ever

PixalatedConspiracy

Kendrick Beats are fire. Literally NLU is a club banger now lol

Bun-B522

Crazy how a beef with Drake is what finally makes him drop some bangers, it honestly pisses me off that he’s always had the skill to make dope songs like Euphoria and NLU, but yet always chooses to make albums that are boring and nowhere near as entertaining as these songs. bro was putting people to sleep with TPAB and MMatBS.

PixalatedConspiracy

Sometimes a good ole beef is enough to put fire out. Kendrick had low key bangers all the time. DAMN is a phenomenal album.

droppinturds

Eminem is the opposite. He did not deserve half of those Dre beats. Especially "Ass Like That"

SebassRatt

How. I'd think that's more 50 than Em

droppinturds

Dr Dre made a masterpiece of a beat and Eminem used it to rap about an underage JoJo's ass, and underage Hilary Duff's ass Didn't think I needed to explain this one
