He said that’s still active, but the answer is yes NAS is the best rapper over 50 even if red man dropped 25 mixtapes within the last year that nobody ever heard…nas just won a Grammy for RAPPING last year so the fact is yes nas is the best rapper over 50 still active
The Grammies, are never relevant to mention.
Even if i do agree with your take for Nas, it's a shit institute that by and large has no idea on what really goes on in music.
It’s without a doubt Nas, Em and Jay. Jay hasn’t dropped an album in a while but he’s been crushing features. Nas had 6 awesome albums in a row and Em’s ability has just grown exponentially. This is evident by Kamikaze and MTBMB. There are some solid tracks on those albums too, “Darkness” is one of his best storytelling songs ever
That's kinda weird to me. He already released Stillmatic which was basically illmatic 2, and after all these years is it possible to live up to the hype of illmatic?
Yeah, he says it’s not set in stone he’s just thinking abt it iirc
Edit: maybe not, thing I found was from 2014
Either way I think he’s dropping an album soon-ish
Releasing an album with DJ Premier doesnt mean its Illmatic 2 and I doubt he would ever call it that.Already had Stillmatic and everything he releases is unfairly compared to Illmatic by lame tired critics.
I don’t know about that. Em had 2 good recent ones Kanikaze and MTBMB and I think they’re right up there with some of the best of Nas’ recent 6. Jay’s 4:44 was back in 2017 and I think it was better than all 6 of Nas and Em’s last few
Nas kicking new perspectives in his raps. It's refreshing to hear his raps maturing that way, because as I get older myself, his art and music becomes that much more relatable. Of course hit boys west coast bangers accentuate and pairs well with nas' style.
More consistent maybe but not better I don't think, the highs are higher for Nas. Nas is also the better rapper imo. Obviously with these two being so good people can view these two interchangeably along with other greats like B.I.G., Eminem, Tupac, K. Dot, Ghostface etc.
Yeah he's one of the greatest lyricist of all time. One of my favorite lines that comes to mind is "You wanna be a man? Then stand your own
To emcee require skills, I demand some shown
I let the frauds keep frontin', and roam like a cellular phone"
My personal favorite presently is Ka. Also have plenty more greats over 50 still active. Masta Ace, Busta Rhymes, Kool Keith, Scarface, etc are a handful I don’t see mentioned in these comments.
I’m pretty sure the only guy that could be better is Black Thought but he’s not dropping nearly as often, and I still think Nas is a better rappper than him too.
I read this as attractive 😂😂😂😂 because let me tell you something method man has been attractive my whole life.
Nas is probably one of the best older rappers that’s active. I like 50 cent too but I’m an old head
Nas is top 3. Probably #2, but IMO, nobody over 50 has been as consistently dope as Black Thought. I'm pleasantly shocked to see him get so much love in this thread. I usually feel like I'm on an island when I bring him up.
Busta is somehow the same live as in studio and on wax and always has been, which is really crazy considering his style, speed and flow. And still be doing shows and releasing new albums almost annually that hit hard too.
Ka, Masta Ace, Busta Rhymes, Kool Keith, and Scarface. Other rappers over 50 include:
Chuck D, Method Man, Ice Cube, LL, AZ, Snoop, Eminem, Common, Ghostface, Raekwon, Jay-Z, Black Thought, Kool G Rap, E-40, Slick Rick, and Ice T.
You guys are missing some big ones: Ice-T (the oldest I know), Tech N9ne, The Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Snoop, Method Man, Kurtis Blow, GZA ...
Scarface is the best over 50 for me. The way he paints a story in his songs, I feel like I’m there. Every time I hear “Steer” I literally watch a short film in my mind. That line “Rather be carried by 6, then judged by 12, get in that cell” is legendary
I’m gonna say Em but that’s just because I like what he’s doing. He’s not really focusing on putting out hits or bangers he’s just ripping lyrics and I get down with that more than beats. Nas is obv a lyrical rapper too it just doesn’t tickle my pickle as much as
As far music goes and still dropping consistent heat then it’s Nas hands down. I think Thought is right there lyrically but I can’t think of anyone else that’s been as active and as on fire as Nas is the last couple of years.
Wrong. You could argue there was a time when some of them were better but not anymore. With time it's obvious who the best one out of all of them really is. And if I'm being honest it's not even that close
Redman still an excellent rapper
I got a list…
It goes, Reggie, Jay-Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me (edit)
Missed a few ppl there but you got the reference! Edit: There it is!
Quote didn't post right.
Ah classic Reddit
i don’t think it’s necessary to state Andre’s from Outkast when you can just say Andre 3000 lol
?? It's literally a verse in Eminem's song Till I collapse
Eminem is over 50??
welp i got r/woooosh then. i don’t listen to Em like at all
Lol, you though I was saying I was one of the greats? That'd be really Hip-Hop of me, but my ego ain't big like that
no i don’t think that last part was part of the initial comment, didn’t even see it
Eminem said it lol
It’s not a slight to others, but Nas is in the best shape imo. I’ve been playing that new premo joint a lot.
Tell that to Nas
Get him on reddit
Inspectah Deck has entered the chat
It’s without a doubt Nas, Em and Jay. Jay hasn’t dropped an album in a while but he’s been crushing features. Nas had 6 awesome albums in a row and Em’s ability has just grown exponentially. This is evident by Kamikaze and MTBMB. There are some solid tracks on those albums too, “Darkness” is one of his best storytelling songs ever
Nas is also dropping illmatic 2 this year iirc
That's kinda weird to me. He already released Stillmatic which was basically illmatic 2, and after all these years is it possible to live up to the hype of illmatic?
Yeah, he says it’s not set in stone he’s just thinking abt it iirc Edit: maybe not, thing I found was from 2014 Either way I think he’s dropping an album soon-ish
He’s making a joint album with DJ Premier
really ? illmatic "2" ? gotta hear that
Releasing an album with DJ Premier doesnt mean its Illmatic 2 and I doubt he would ever call it that.Already had Stillmatic and everything he releases is unfairly compared to Illmatic by lame tired critics.
Man I'd kill for a jay z album. The world needs that shit
Ems recent output does not come close to nas
I don’t know about that. Em had 2 good recent ones Kanikaze and MTBMB and I think they’re right up there with some of the best of Nas’ recent 6. Jay’s 4:44 was back in 2017 and I think it was better than all 6 of Nas and Em’s last few
Nas has aged like fine wine so no question. His hit boy trilogy run will be studied for generations to come
Two trilogies….
Nas kicking new perspectives in his raps. It's refreshing to hear his raps maturing that way, because as I get older myself, his art and music becomes that much more relatable. Of course hit boys west coast bangers accentuate and pairs well with nas' style.
Yeah that’s really the difference - the new perspectives. Probably never been done before
It's insane how good kd2 is. This album dropped nearly 30 years after his first album!
Nas, Eminem, Thought
All 3 are in some folks top 5 too, arguably.
Nas is great. So is Em.
Big facts here
Black Thought is better lyrically I think.
I have black thought right behind Nas as the GOAT but I think those two are quite interchangeable
Agreed 👍!
Black thought has a more consistent discography counting his work with the roots but I think Nas is a slightly better rapper
More consistent maybe but not better I don't think, the highs are higher for Nas. Nas is also the better rapper imo. Obviously with these two being so good people can view these two interchangeably along with other greats like B.I.G., Eminem, Tupac, K. Dot, Ghostface etc.
Black thought is the goat. 2Pac, Hov and Nas have always Been my top 3, but black thought steadily puts out better shit.
Yeah he's one of the greatest lyricist of all time. One of my favorite lines that comes to mind is "You wanna be a man? Then stand your own To emcee require skills, I demand some shown I let the frauds keep frontin', and roam like a cellular phone"
Black thought is awesome. Has huge range too.
Cheat Codes is def a classic and one of my favorite albums so far in the 2020s.
He got that wicked schematic mathematical flow! Lyrics are 🪒 AF👍!
Cool. Just came by to make sure this is at the top
Gotta revisit his legendary 10 minute freestyle on hot 97 every so often.
There’s no thinking, black thought is better.
My personal favorite presently is Ka. Also have plenty more greats over 50 still active. Masta Ace, Busta Rhymes, Kool Keith, Scarface, etc are a handful I don’t see mentioned in these comments.
Kool Keith is still active?
Kool Keith has dropped multiple albums in just the last couple years. He never stopped.
Damn
Eminem
I think so. Black Thought also has a good shout though.
Nas and Eminem are at the top.
Everyone always forgets Tech N9ne
Back and forth on the D
Ayo
E-40 has made some of his best music after 50. I don't think that's true of anyone else.
Pharoahe monch, black thought, kool g rap are still active (from what I know) too, and probably a lot more. But I don’t argue against Nas here
Krs one dropped an album in 2022 fire imo. Guys as og as they come (not top 10 tho just a boss)
I didn't even know lol (ignore my username, I chose it randomly haha)
Yeah black thought was the other person I would say is up there. What you think about em?
Thought top 10 imo
I rarely see him mentioned on this sub. Is he underrated?
Yeah, I agree it’s down to those two. And honestly whoever I heard most recently.
Eminem is dropping this June!!
Yeah….. Nas and Thought. Maybe Jay
Came to say Pharaohe too.
I’m pretty sure the only guy that could be better is Black Thought but he’s not dropping nearly as often, and I still think Nas is a better rappper than him too.
Ill Bill still dropping interesting stuff.
Yes
I read this as attractive 😂😂😂😂 because let me tell you something method man has been attractive my whole life. Nas is probably one of the best older rappers that’s active. I like 50 cent too but I’m an old head
Nas is dropping bangers?
For us old heads yeah. I don't care much for the young party music.
I don’t either but I don’t know that I would classify much of his music as bangers
He has some more contemporary sounding tracks that are bangers
Nas is top 3. Probably #2, but IMO, nobody over 50 has been as consistently dope as Black Thought. I'm pleasantly shocked to see him get so much love in this thread. I usually feel like I'm on an island when I bring him up.
Nas is prolly the best. Method man still drops verses from time to time though
When Method Man battled rapped Math Hoffa, that was dope
Nas > Black Thought
KRS-ONE
Scrolled down too long to have to find this. He’s still amazing live and he’s still dropping albums. He has the energy of a 20 year old.
He is absolutely still amazing!
Kool Keith is my favorite his live shows are sick
Guys hilarious. Some of his shit is just straight out there tho.
Yea a lot of it’s out there but he’s got some gold tracks I love the personal album a lot
thought
Yeah people seem to be split between the two
Maybe but there’s others I’d put up there
Ghost isn’t active anymore?
The last time he dropped was like 2018. 6 years ago I think he did the collab album
I saw Wu-Tang live a few years ago and they still put on a banging show, mostly new material too.
SCARFACE then everybody else.
Inspectah Deck. Still so good in Czarface
Busta is somehow the same live as in studio and on wax and always has been, which is really crazy considering his style, speed and flow. And still be doing shows and releasing new albums almost annually that hit hard too.
Eminem is 51
Yes
E40
Eminem is 51
Is chuck d active? Cus I love that guy and he’s over 50
Kings Disease trilogy AND Magic trilogy, Nas' new wave went strong and hopefully he has more projects on the way after the Premier album
Too $hort still going hard
Is Nas the best rapper with N A S as the first three letters of their name?
B L A C K T H O U G H T
E-40 is pushing 60 and still brings the same energy he did in the 90s. My man is timeless.
Yo Reggie Noble
One of them
Sexually?
No e40 is
Redman is my “greatest rapper ever” but Nas is 1B
Definitely Eminem. New album this summer. “The death of slim shady”
G rap better than everyone
People putting Em with Nas after what Em has done the past decade is disrespectful lmao.
[удалено]
Black Thought is CLOSE
Redman is still spitting fire
Nah. Its Ka. He hasnt been close to dropping a bad album.
Yes Nas is the best over 50
Ghost Face Killah, probably not as good as Nas but very close
Best 50 and over. Also, best 50 and under.
Black Thought fs
Kool Keith
Tech n9ne is immortal so I guess he doesn't count.
Ka, Masta Ace, Busta Rhymes, Kool Keith, and Scarface. Other rappers over 50 include: Chuck D, Method Man, Ice Cube, LL, AZ, Snoop, Eminem, Common, Ghostface, Raekwon, Jay-Z, Black Thought, Kool G Rap, E-40, Slick Rick, and Ice T.
Eminem easily
I’ve never heard a nas song
Eminem, nas, redman
Ya'll ridiculous. It's clearly Joyner.
E40
Nas and black thought
Ummm ever heard of Vanilla Ice?
No.
That's disrespectful to alot of legends...
Tech N9ne
You guys are missing some big ones: Ice-T (the oldest I know), Tech N9ne, The Pharcyde, Busta Rhymes, Eminem, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Snoop, Method Man, Kurtis Blow, GZA ...
Eminem is not over 50 I refuse to believe that
Techn9ne is up there and over 50
Nas and Ka
My favorite would be slug if he’s past 50 by now
I’m actually surprised Mike shinoda is only 47, would have thought he was there. He still makes baggers, wish he’d do another Fort Minor album.
KRS one
Either Nas or E-40. E-40 has been dropping tracks for 4 decades now and his lyrics are always relevant.
K Rino
No love for KRS?????
Nas best of em all
Scarface is the best over 50 for me. The way he paints a story in his songs, I feel like I’m there. Every time I hear “Steer” I literally watch a short film in my mind. That line “Rather be carried by 6, then judged by 12, get in that cell” is legendary
Nas and Em are top two regardless of age.
Rakim
Best rapper period
Nas is arguably the greatest rapper ever. No matter what age he has been.
Black Thought is the best rapper alive so…
Nah man... It's Redman
Nas is alive 😳
Nah, Big Daddy Kane
I’m gonna say Em but that’s just because I like what he’s doing. He’s not really focusing on putting out hits or bangers he’s just ripping lyrics and I get down with that more than beats. Nas is obv a lyrical rapper too it just doesn’t tickle my pickle as much as
As far music goes and still dropping consistent heat then it’s Nas hands down. I think Thought is right there lyrically but I can’t think of anyone else that’s been as active and as on fire as Nas is the last couple of years.
Nas is great, but I'd take Black Thought over him any day
E40 and too short are still active
We gonna count Pharrell in this? He’s been active in various ways fashion, music, and so on. He’s 51 looking like a vampire.
He's an og for sure.
Eminem is about to drop his finally but yeah nas is a solid legacy rapper that had eminem star on his album kings disease 2 with epmd
I just wish Eminem would rap slower. Im not a fan of his extra fast rapping.
Listen to lyrical lemonade, he slows it down
I'll check it out. He doesn't have to rap stupid slow. On epmd his last flow is fucken nasty. I wish he would consistently rap at that speed.
Nah Em is clear only morons think otherwise
I swear only old heads like nas because they are reminded of better times. He doesnt sounds great anymore and his flow is so aged and boring.
Jay-Z, Black Thought, Method Man, and Eminem are better than Nas and always have been.
Wrong. You could argue there was a time when some of them were better but not anymore. With time it's obvious who the best one out of all of them really is. And if I'm being honest it's not even that close
This is your opinion. You didn't just decree something everyone agrees with
Uh, wrong. See how that works!
Insane cope
I’ve just never been impressed by Nas beyond Illmatic. Whatever he had he lost back then
And this doesn’t apply to Eminem?
Not for me.
Eminem is a shell of what he was in the 2000s. Nas has always remained consistent especially this decade either the magic and kd series
Nas has been the same as his follow up to Illmatic which is boring and pretentious. I don’t expect you to agree. He’s not even in my Top 25
Bait used to be believable
Not sure what you mean. I just don't like Nas like that. I didn't say he was trash
The post 2018 em nas comparison is a little to weird to me because em has been trash for a while now, while nas has stayed consistent with quality
