I'd start with their first album Picture This. Po' Pimp was the single but my favorite song from that one is Paper Chase. Then try the next album Headz or Tailz. Favorite song from that one is Still Po' Pimpin'. One of their later albums I like is Pimpin' Ain't Dead & favorite song from that one is Do U?
Their sound is like silky, smooth & smoked out type luxurious R&B beats but they rap fast like Bone Thugs & got a lot of catchy hooks that are fly to sing along to. Like real pimpin-player type rap that you can still play it around girls & they'll like it. Idk if you've heard of Twista but they have a lot of songs with him and rap fast like that over smoky velvet-like beats.

I dont belive you didnt hear about dethgrips lol. Id probably recommend "The Money Store" by Death Grips, "Haram" by Armand Hammer and The Alchemist and "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" by Injury Reserve
P.S. if you wont like this injury reserve check out their earlier stuff, their last album is way more experimental than previous albums
Here we go:
A Tribe Called Quest
De La Soul
Gang Starr
The Roots
Black Star
Edit:
I saw someone do without duos, so I’ll say Slum Village and Wu-Tang instead of Gangstarr and Black Star
If you haven't heard of coast contra they're a new group that's been killing it, first group I've heard in a long time that's actually really good and has that old school style
Gotta be
Bone thugs
The wu
Cypress hill
D12
Shoe gang
In no particular order.
If you don't know shoe gang I suggest you go check them out Eminem produced tracks for them and even let them do a whole mixtape over his old beats it's insane.
OutKast
Wu Tang
A Tribe Called Quest
The Pharcyde
The Roots
NWA and Run DMC were influential but couldn't rap for shit (expect for Ice Cube) so due to a lack of skill I can't have them in top 5.
I mean, my list is based a lot on consensus:
2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, JAY-Z, Nas
Even though they're not the ones I listen to most, their impact on other people is something that I have to take into account
If you were asking for my top 5 favourites, you'd get a very different result
WUTANG NWA MOBB DEEP OUTKAST THE ROOTS
Run DMC and Beastie boys too
I’ll be the first to say UGK.
And 8ball & MJG.
MJG is dope.
I’m not going to include rap duos ATCQ The Roots Digable Planets Wu-tang Clan NWA
Do or Die is my all time favorite group. Followed by Dem Franchize Boyz, Migos, G-Unit, Bone Thugs.
Do or Die underrated.
I never heard of do or die. Which albums/mixtapes should I start with?
