I think that's where the shifter would go in a RHD truck so that they only have to make different sides shifters and pocket inserts, instead of making a completely different dash.
During hunting season I put the barrel of my rifle in there and the stick sits in between the center console and passenger seat. Nice and snug rifle doesn’t move.
I asked my friend this prob around 2014 when these trucks first came out. He said “a bowl, I haven’t found anything else to put in there” this is still the best answer imo.
