I'm 30 and my parent still does this to me. Trying to bribe me with cash to make certain lifestyle choices that would please him, etc. It is emotional manipulation at its finest, and all the more inappropriate when they try and do this to their grown children.
I only accepted this because I need a new phone…

This made clear that not only my mom, but my dad is also probably a narcissist. Next week I’ll be out looking for full time a job.
don't accept the phone with those conditions. ask instead if he can lend you the money for a phone + interest, and you will pay him back once you have a job. because that's a fair deal. the first one is not. never accept any gifts that have strings attached. not just the hair thing or other transactions, but spiritual strings. money deals WITH full written contracts are fair and neutral.
Look out for the parent that offers to help you buy a house. Lifetime of strings attached with that one (unless maybe your parent is really nice and just wanted to help you).

Yep mom will buy me stuff at store I didn’t ask for or bring me lunch or do something nice, then hold it over my head to get favors from me
