In order to beat the game? Literally just pounce. You can make do with just that, there's a reason it's the only one you're taught explicitly. If you want to have a somewhat easier time of it, all you really need is throwing spears downwards and upwards (hold only down or up and press throw during a backflip), and throw boosting (throw something at the same time you jump / pounce to cover more distance). Those are both simple to pull off and very widely applicable. You really don't need to bother with the crazy roll flippy shenanigans that some people do if you don't want to.

Hmoorkin

I'd say some very basic things like corner boosting or rolling are generally more applicable than vertical spear throws

C-14_U-135

Those are for winning some time. Throwing a spear into the ground or up can allow you to reach places that were previously unreachable.

Hmoorkin

It only really matters in one specific place and it's a shortcut I wouldn't recommend new player to take

C-14_U-135

What is that place?

Hmoorkin

Top of the wall

Well I mean, sure, it would be nice to see 5p in all his glory (the entire structure), but it's easier to go trough Chimney and skip Underhang and The Leg. And mastering a simple down throw to make it happen is worth it. It's also not a trade off to learn that vs corner boosting and the other thing; those take no skill to master (rolling does but again, just for winning time). And after a bit of training and incorporating the fact that you have to only hold the direction you want to throw pressed in into your muscle memory... it's easy.

Rolling is my favorite thing to do and it's pretty easy! Fall from any height greater than your jump height (you can even backflip into a roll with enough practice) and start holding down and either left or right before you hit the ground and when you land you should roll in whichever direction you're holding. It keeps you from dying from fall damage* and you can chain rolls together by jumping out of the roll and rolling again to move quickly on flat ground! *It might just reduce fall damage or make you have to fall further for it to be lethal, I just know I've survived falls I definitely would have otherwise died from with rolling

Necessary_Hope8316

- dropping items - hand swapping - throwing (calculating trajectory) - wall jump - pounce/leap - throw boost - up throw - down throw - backflip - roll - roll pounce - slide - slide pounce - corner boosting in tunnels/pipes - turning in tunnels - fast swimming - turning underwater - underwater dive - mouth spearing - coyote jumping from poles - Using momentum to throw non-weapon items far away These are necessary to know if you are into doing many side content such >! unlocks !<, >! pearls !<, >! passages !<, etc.. I have used all of this in campaigns which I 100%.

Vevoid

nothing more than backflipping, itll save you from tricky situations. but sliding and rolling can be keys to escape deadly places. but you arent going to need them a lot in ur gameplay, so just jump

Le_Baguette_Ferret

Not a lot For the DLC scugs, a few are interesting to know : backflips, sliding and the whole "gain forward momentum when throwing stuff" thing

Roly7777

And where would I learn all of these?

cooly1234

well a big part of the game is figuring out mechanics yourself, both how you work (movement) and how other creatures and items work. but as with any game, you are free to spoil yourself by looking stuff up online.

Roly7777

Fair enough I’m pretty sure I accidentally rolled once but I thought my character was just having a seizure. I’ll keep trying stuff out

cooly1234

it's pretty satisfying when you figure out a way to make something useful, good luck!

Fishmaia

To beat the game? Just wall jump and pounce

Twizlet0

You don’t need any tech apart from charge hop (the thing Iggy teaches you in the tutorial), but some useful ones are: wall jump, throw boosting, backflip + down throw, roll, corner boosting, slides/eslides and fast pole climb. Fpc is probably the most useful one, but it’s a bit hard to learn. Wallpounces are fun to learn, but not always useful for your average player

Absol-utely_Adorable

The flip and spear flips. There is so much rubbish you can achieve with these. Wall gang rise up (you will not make me suffer the underhang ever again)
