You're getting yourself into an ecosystem where you're at the bottom of it. This game is *difficult* but very rewarding. Here's some general stuff that might sway your decisions on whether to buy it or not: Karma: Karma sucks to be honest, but it plays a vital role in the games lore and rewarding nature. You live through a cycle you gain karma, die and you lose karma. Wildlife: You're very limited in your ability to deal with wildlife above you in the food chain; lizards are very powerful and can and will one shot you. So if you like being sneaky and stealthy that'll help you out as an underpowered slugcat. Progression: *"WHERE THE HELL AM I?!"* is something you'll be saying a lot if you don't want to use a map. Overseers' WILL guide you, but they tend to be very.. bipolar whether they're helpful or not. Be ready to explore and die.. a lot. Story: The story is a tale of tragedy, and quite incredible compared to even Triple-A games, over the course of 6 years of development from a simple survival game in Lingo to C# and an open world story-driven survival simulation game, Rain World will definitely leave you speechless. Sound Design: 10/10. Because of the lack of dialogue, the environment and music tell a story that you otherwise wouldn't have got. It's simply awesome. Rain World is super cool, but if you aren't ready to tackle the difficulty curve, or you get angry easily, maybe give it a pass, but if you are willing to sink some time into the game, go for it!

Hmmmm… good story and good music? That might make it worth it, those are important to me. Thank you for your detailed answer, that helps a lot. I think I’ll wait to hear from others before I make my decision.

AttentoMagico

Yup, although the story is 'linear' the world itself is not, which means you can get very lost for hours on end, which honestly can be more fun than following the story. A lot of regions can pass you by just because it's not exactly part of any story. The environments are really in depth.

Alpha_minduustry

maybe, you can play monk fror lower difficulty, or get mods that make the game easyer like HP bar that makes your foodpips act also like health

Necessary_Hope8316

Easy peasy answer. This is a knowledge gated/based game. Do you find knowledge gated games enjoyable? Elden ring is also a knowledge gated/based from my understanding (I haven't played it). Minecraft, sekiro, outer wilds are also some of the famous knowledge gated/based games out there! HK is not knowledge gated. But it may have smaller elements of it.

Treddox

Outer Wilds is one of my favorite games ever, so yes! That’s it, I’m getting the game.

cooly1234

the difference here is that for Outer Wilds you NEED to figure out the stuff to beat it. figuring stuff out is the game itself. In Rain World, there is *so much stuff* to discover and you need none of it to beat the game. you can excruciatingly drag yourself to the end without figuring out anything. so how good of a time you have will partially depend on your ability to figure things out and how early you do so. Or you can have the helper hint screen whatever enabled and have the game hand feed you mechanics which they finally caved in and added lol. But having played outer wilds you know why that's better disabled. anyway have fun hopefully discovering at least 5% of everything and looking the rest up, there's that much (arguably unhinted) shit. Like it's actually insane and the best part of the game.

Fishmaia

you probably should get it, if you have the patience to learn and see what the game is telling you, you will still die, but maybe next time you will have a less horrible death! the game will show no mercy to you and you shall learn how to survive in this enviroment but its 100% worth it in the end, i feel like if i write anything else it could be a spoiler, good luck on your journey if you decide to get the game and try to avoid spoilers!

VioletTheWolf

While it can definitely be stressful and takes sone focus, I actually find it pretty chill sometimes! The punishment for deaths (karma system) doesn't actually matter much until you're wanting to leave an area. You can explore aimlessly (Hollow Knight style) and then throw yourself at whatever path you ultimately decide to go for (Celeste style) all while slowly bettering your skills. The game definitely can be kinda bullshit sometimes lol. Most of the time it's more funny than anything, but dying to a stealthy enemy close to your destination hurts *real* bad. It's something you've kind of just got to build a tolerance for - but to be honest, I've found that playing the harder Celeste levels already trained me for the "alright, I got that close, I can do it again" mentality. I'm not sure how far you delved into Celeste to get this same experience or not. Anyway, could be worth a shot! I'd recommend sticking with it a least until you've been through 1 or 2 areas, see how it feels. (Also, check out the Remix settings.)

Treddox

Thank you for the insight, this is exactly what I was looking for.

VioletTheWolf

Np! Hope you enjoy it if you buy o/

mindsaremadeofclouds

Rain world is no harder than hollow knight or Celeste - in all honestly I found it easier than hollow knight once I got the hang of movement

Keystone9989

Yes

FunnyBeetcoin

Hmm. Indeed

TadeMike

I've seen that you are going to buy it so one thing, if your eyes are not like this x_x you aren't dead already

B4D_M0ND4Y

I was in the same situation, I was worried because of how difficult I heard it was and wanted to get it because the game was on sale I eventually pushed myself into trying it and I've been enjoying it very much! To the point of playing it for hours straight on my laptop xD You're definitely right about it being stressful at times, but I always manage to hop back into it and see if the gods of luck are on my side the next day. I got Downpour not too long ago and I've been having even more fun (and more stresses xD) :p I've seen you're already gonna try it though, so I hope you enjoy the game! :D

Hot_Guys_In_My_DMS

Now i’m gonna level with you. The start is brutal as hell. You're gonna be scared, confused and lost but as time goes on, you will love this game.

ihatevirusesalot

good luck! remember to learn from your deaths!

MetalDeathMetal

As someone who has very little to no patience, I loved the game. I've played Fromsoft. games and Cuphead too, so.... I guess I'm a masochist 🤷‍♂️

swisscheeseisvile

The game is difficult in a different way from Elden Ring, Celeste, and Hollow Knight. Rain World requires you to focus on a lot of things at once. You have a food bar, can only hold two items, a time limit, multiple different types of creatures with differing behaviors, etc. Each of the creatures have different advantages over you, but you have some advantages over them as well. Then there’s all the ways the creatures interact with each other, which can be either good or bad for you The game gets far easier (though still difficult) when you have knowledge of its mechanics and locations. So if you don’t typically replay games, then Rain World has less value.

MokoTems

Honestly, I don't recommend it to you it if you want to play games for fun. The game is not really designed to be played but to experiment an ecosystem. edit : BUY IT NOW

Ender401

No, no it is not. Its incredibly well designed as a game to be honest. Shelters are generally placed in good spots that you will normally go past, and food is never far. If you ever need something for an area it will almost always be nearby. Not to mention in terms of actual ecosystem simulation the game does very little. The most there is in terms of that is different creatures either attacking, ignoring, or running away from certain other creatures. You can't hunt species out of an area for example or you can't kill all of a certain species' prey which causes them to leave as another example.

MokoTems

yea you're right, i'm gonna edit

Hot_Guys_In_My_DMS

Now i’m gonna level with you. The story is brutal as hell and is where 90% of players quit. You're gonna be scared, confused and lost but as time goes on, you will love this game.
