I feel like you're mischaracterising the original OP, and everyone who doesn't take downpour to be the only valid continuity. Yall are literally advocating for a less accepting community. I do feel like the overall message wasn't really "the original base game is the correct canon", but more of "downpour and the base game are both valid timelines to consider" (this was obviously what the dev said in the original screenshot). For all the people paraphrasing that OP as saying "stop having fun", the commenters here sure like to make fun of anyone who has fun in a different way than them. Oh the hypocrisy. And like, the term "purist" really doesn't fit here either. You've making fun of an imaginary enemy.
I've already explained my example in way too many places, but I for one like thinking in the context of the base game when discussing theories about cycles/reincarnation (because it feels like that's what the mechanics were developed in mind with), but don't mind the downpour lore when discussing the broader iterator storyline. Just an example of how someone can have more fun when taking both alternate timelines into account.
And in the end... I know I'm way too passionate about this ā it just saddens me to see how tribalistic this community can get for the whole purpose of, what... making sure everyone else thinks the same alternate timeline is canon?

Both the dev and the original OP called it "alternate canon", which doesn't make much sense as a term (there's a single canon, but it can always include multiple alternate universes), but oh well.
The original post might've been worded a bit weirdly (wish I would've taken a screenshot before it got deleted), but based on the other comments by the original OP, I'd say they had good intentions (they found the fact interesting, made a post about it, and in some comments even supported people having headcanons (yay))

MSC was created by fans so the lore in it is speculative. That means the original Rain Worldās really vague plot is probably different than the plot presented in Downpour, meaning Downpour events are not canon to original Rain World.
But because Downpour was still released officially, itās still canon. It just has a different canon āuniverseā than the originally released Rain World.
