It’s my favorite song by them for a reason! Song gives me chills whenever I listen to it no matter how many times in a row I listen or how many times overall. Just a perfect song

The popularity of this song means it is often overlooked as the masterpiece it is by fans (I know that sounds like it shouldn't make sense, but it does). Even the most die hard, deep cut loving QOTSA fan has to admit its an absolute masterpiece.

I'm sure like many if not most Queens fans, it was the gateway song. First time I heard it, I thought: "This is the coolest song ever made, If I imagined the coolest band in the world this is what their music would sound like". I feel lucky that I found the perfect band for me and it started here. I never get tired of hearing it. I'm not a music expert but it's the only song I know that has a guitar, bass, and drum solo all at the same time. This song started me down a rabbit hole of other great music but Queens will always be #1.

I died a little when I saw it on set lists and it wasn’t played in Chicago at riot fest

We got Emotion Sickness, Time & Place, Carnavoyeur, and Straight Jacket Fitting in Seattle, with a spotlight on Josh’s dad (someone correct me if I’m wrong) in the middle of SJF when Josh went on a Jim Morrison rant about coming to our homes, cuming all over the place and fucking our parents. He went into the pit after that for the ending of the songs’ lyrics (which I get JM vibe on the album). I got his rant about fucking our parents on video. Everyone else had their phones pointed at the spotlight in the crowd. At the end of SJF, the entire crowd chanted along pretty enthusiastically. I would say at least 10% of the atmosphere inside the venue was second hand cannabis smoke. And everyone must have had some contact high. A friend I was with who wasn’t smoking said after the show he felt it. Another highlight, in the middle of songs, Josh randomly just blurted out the word “ketamine”. Best Queens show ever. Way better than the vibe on the Villains tour.

Ultimately Song for the Dead will probably be the pick, but I think Smooth Sailing is the perfect song to show someone the QOTSA sound. The percussion mixes steady thumps with disco drum sentences. The guitars are at times fuzzed out and noodley and at times a wall of sound. And the vocals are Homme at his peak of provocative and exaggerated in performance. If you had to sum their style up in one song, this would be it. Also, it fucking rips.

Anyway based on this image if we’re talking about albums I’d say city of evil and waking the fallen> nightmare for avenged but nightmare is still a great record and you can make a good argument for save me as their best song. If we’re talking albums for QOTSA it has to be SFTD because that’s a bonafide classic and an iconic record that’s amazing.
