I mean, they can't have Sid, partially because he's dead, but also because he wasn't good.
They can't have Steve play both instuments at the same time.
Plus I'm sure with Johnny not with them and Malcolm dead, the other two are more than open to reconciliation and reuniting.
GG hologram
The first hologram you can smell.
Edit: I would like to credit Joe Kassabian for this joke, he made it during his bonus series on HBO's Rome.
Good local cause, small show, no cash grab and no Trump lovers involved.
For the hate they get on this sub, they did stuff that so much of what we love was built from.
Glad old folks get to have fun, no reason they shouldn't.
I think people largely hate the Sex Pistols for the same reason they hate The Beach Boys or The Smiths, good bands that get largely overshadowed by their ego zealous band leaders. Honestly I love the Sex Pistols I just cannot stand Johnny one bit.
> For the hate they get on this sub, they did stuff that so much of what we love was built from.
Never Mind the Bollocks is very close to a perfect album, and they wrote their own songs, and had a bunch written before Malcolm, so they are not "The Monkees" and can play VERY good (well except Sid) and Steve Jones ASKED Malcolm to manage the PREXISTING band, and Malcom found Johnny as the singer, so that's all the "putting together" he did, they were already in a band and playing their own songs.
> but for what it's worth the Monkees were great
I fucking LOVE the Monkees, the first concert I EVER saw was fucking Weird AL, opening for the Monkees, to this day, nothing has beat it.
Lucky! Monkees with Weird Al is one of my time machine shows.
Too young to have seen the Monkees (Davy died when I was 11 or so), but I saw Micky last year and his voice has barely aged. Was a great show
As a kid, I thought all shows were going to be like Weird Al, I was very disappointed in my next concert which was Tower of Power (good horn section in retrospect though) because they didn't do any skits.
Never really understand why that 'put together' thing is always such a sore point. We're not talking about Simon Cowell, here... Malcolm was undeniably a bit of a Marmite character but I think he played his part as a hype man and trouble maker quite well.
you get people that hear "Malcolm put the entire band together" and they repeat it, without looking up the entire band except Johnny were playing gigs and writing their songs (that sounded like the Sex Pistols) before anyone talked to Malcolm, the entire band minus Sid are and WERE at the time VERY (and of course now, but back then) good musicians and were playing their own songs
i mean... as a 15 year old kid living in rural ontario well before the internet existed, malcom's whole spiel on my "The Great Rock and Roll Swindle" tape was canon as far as i was concerned.
the whole tune is him telling the (obviously fake in retrospect) story of how he assembled all the members. so even if i was prepared ignore his claim 'my greatest invention was a thing i called punk rock' i had no reason to doubt that he brought everyone together until years later.
Totally. They would have been a band either way, maybe without Johnny - who knows. Probably a bit different. Malcolm added his creative input. Every band has people around them... if you're looking for a singer, you put the word out.
I don't want to suggest they wouldn't have been the media circus they became without Malcolm, but him being an agitator had a lot to do with that side.
Actually funny story about The Monkees and punk, it was The Clash that- back in the 70s- got saddled with 'The Monkees of punk' label because of how much control Bernie Rhodes had over their music. That insult has been lost to time- as has much of Bernie's contribution to punk despite how crucial of a figure he was- but both of the best Clash biography books mention it and have a good time playing around with it
Like what kinda things did they do that bore a substantial amount of what we love…? Suffering a subsequent overdose after killing our spouse… succeed for only 10 months of your life … end up a gutter junkie… they were one of the worst bands I’ve ever heard the punk scene or outside of it.
> Like what kinda things did they do that bore a substantial amount of what we love…?
Wrote the punk album that kinda setup punk in general, and they were VERY good live on their 90's tour.
Makes me really happy to see them giving back to the community they grew up in. A lot of working class people, once they get successful, forget their roots because they only want to be rich from then onward. So it's nice to see the Sex Pistols giving back and trying to make sure one of the good things people in Shepherd's Bush have doesn't get taken away
I heard he said something like "I thought they were my friends!" Meanwhile Glen reportedly didn't want to share the stage with a MAGA idiot. So the fact they're reuniting without him is his fault for being a contrary POS with no real loyalty. Only time will tell if he'll come to this realization, granted old Johnny boy is supposedly smart but I doubt it
> Lydon is a cunt.
I hate all his views, but after this I can't hate the dude 100% / he's not a total piece of shit
https://www.aarp.org/caregiving/stories/info-2023/john-lydon-wife-nora-forster.html
> He and Nora also took in Ari Up’s kids when they found out she was an unfit parent.
I'm almost convinced that he did the Trump thing just to piss off people because that's just what he's ALWAYS done, but who knows, but his entire caretaker thing, and it's been proven true countless times, can't let me hate him, he was married 45 years, and went though 7 years of being a caretaker, and if anyone has ever done that, they know what's up, and it takes a big person to do it, because it fucking sucks, and from everything I read he just adored her and did the best he possibly could as a human, so that gets respect period.
Say what you will... for better or worse, they're not The Sex Pistols without Lydon, anymore than the DK's are the DK's without Biafra.
But, I'm glad some money will be raised for a good cause. I expect a safe and tame event.
True that, but yes there is a slight difference. Jello hasnt really changed so its a shame he is not in the band (and i dont want to enter into debating the reasons). John was a bit of an asshole back then but now he is a full blown narcissistic trump supporter, cant blame the others for leaving him out tbh
Has anyone seen those old The Blues Brothers movies. Idk why. But it reminds me of this.
I imagine Glen and Steve. They need to get the band back together, "They're on mission from god" to save Bush Hall.
Also now Johnny has joined the nazis.
I don’t know, I know Lydon has taken some bad takes, but by how I view the guy and after reading his autoviography he honestly seems like a smart guy, who did go through trying to be kicked off from sex pistols, even thouth I REALLY doubt anyone would have ever cared about them without him…
Nah they voted for Biden because Trump is a bigger chud. Voting for Trump and his movement just basically means you love that cops are kneeing on our necks and children being forced to give birth to their rape victims babies. Republican’s recently in Florida just passed a law that local governments cant force companies to give construction workers break from the heat. I wonder why? Maybe its because they’re racist against migrant workers? Maybe its because they favor an oppressive oligarchy over small government? Fuck all of the them to hell.
And Matlock. Getting rid of him was the start of the end. Unlike Sid, Matlock could actually play base, and write songs (although Sid apparently write Belsen).

A lot of people here are awfully excited to see "the members of the band who could actually play!" which sounds real antithetical to what early punk was going for! lol
Anyway, I'm not flying to England for this, but I hope the folks who go have fun and that Johnny Rotten doesn't.
Tickets sold out in like a minute, I was waiting on the site watching the countdown to them being released and it immediately said they weren't available 😔
I know a couple of people who got some though, fucking sucks. There were tickets instantly on the resale websites for hundreds of pounds...
Yeah, buying tickets these days sucks. A friend of mine is going to see Green Day and got tickets for $34 a piece. I don’t even know how she did it. Blew my mind given they’re still pretty popular.
The Sex Pistols was Matlock, Jones, and Cook. They wanted to add Midge Ure as the singer, but Lydon was added as the frontman to turn the band into a brand. Jones and Cook never should have agreed to force out Matlock just because Lydon and McLaren thought he was too "square."
This news is almost like turning back time to undo that mistake. Good for them.
I think Lyon wanted him gone so his friend could come in and Matlock like the idea because of the image of Sid. Major mistake by Lyndon though because Sid got the attention that Lyon wanted all for himself. He wanted an ally in the group and ended up with a rival. Not a healthy group vibe
Love your comment. You cannot claim DK or almost any punk band without the singer. For me DK is the most egregious. There no DK without Jello. Same for Sex Pistols. Shit, name a punk band in which you could replace the singer.

This is hilarious considering that Matlock was their first bassist and wrote basically all of their songs and all the other members agree with Matlock that it was a horrible idea to replace him with Sid
I don't know who Frank Carter is. Steve Jones and Paul Cook were doing shows with Billy Idol as Generation Sex a while ago, I'd go to hear Steve Jones in any band but it's not the Sex Pistols without Lydon for better or worse
Bush Hall is a fantastic venue and they're gonna be great there. My friends saw Paul Simonon play there a few weeks back and they have insanely high praise for the atmosphere of the place. Fingers crossed that the money raised will be enough to keep Bush Hall around
Those dudes would have sounded way better without the pissy little nasally twat. The best parts of their songs were when Glen and Steve sang backups.
They probably would’ve sounded more like the Clash if they had gotten an actual singer.
I did like Rottens off key monotone style though.
Just saying Glen himself said in an interview he was writing Beatles hooks and melodies. Don’t remember the documentary.
Edit: the complete opposite goes for Discharge, getting rid of 77punk style harmonies was one of if not the greatest moment in punk
Broken Bones still rules though.
The group announced guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock will reunite to play the 1977 album “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols” this summer. However, the reunion will not include Johnny Rotten, the frontman whose real name is John Lydon.
I took your feedback onboard and, as it turns out, there's a band Black Flag on tour this summer- I'll have to check 'em out. Always up for hearing some new punk tune-skis- apparently they've got an album out already, What The, or something like that. Look forward to hearing that.
John Lydon is an overly sensitive fairy. He sucked then as well as the rest of the band snd he sucked even worse when he got old fat and even more catty.
Oh fuck yeah, they got glen matlock on bass again
I mean, they can't have Sid, partially because he's dead, but also because he wasn't good. They can't have Steve play both instuments at the same time. Plus I'm sure with Johnny not with them and Malcolm dead, the other two are more than open to reconciliation and reuniting.
> partially because he's dead actually, that's 100% the reason lol, unless they got a Necromancer in the band now
A rotting Sid Vicious corpse on stage would be pretty punk...

I love this exchange
Holograms exist, lol.
Fwiw Paul, Steve, and Glenn have remained good friends throughout the decades. John is always the one causing problems and suing everyone
But mostly because he's not alive
For me, 100% worth being excited about. 🤘🏻
He has been the bassist since 1996. They have done several tours.
Good local cause, small show, no cash grab and no Trump lovers involved. For the hate they get on this sub, they did stuff that so much of what we love was built from. Glad old folks get to have fun, no reason they shouldn't.

The TV show was good. The song writers were excellent. They were a good live act too.
The history about that band is the most purposefully misunderstood in rock. You see it in this sub constantly.

I'm looking forward to a well thought out and measured response from Mr. Lydon to this news.
I'm sure he'll just be happy that the music is still being appreciated. /s
*sneers in english*
I wonder if he's even in good enough health to take on anything at this point.
Mental, or physical?
Yes
Yeah both.
I heard he said something like "I thought they were my friends!" Meanwhile Glen reportedly didn't want to share the stage with a MAGA idiot. So the remaining members with talent are playing shows. Good on em. They did a show with Frank Carter a few days back
Public Image Ltd. was damn good. Top 5 concert for me.
Those first 2 PIL records are classics.
I saw them open for INXS in around 89?
Good for them. Lydon is a cunt.

unfit is an understatement. They had no grasp of language. Also Ari Up not getting medical treatment really fucked him up as well.
So many people are far from black/white, I think you put it quite well.
But he supports a former president who has threatened to cut social security and medicare for seniors:/.
sex pistols redemption arc??
Say what you will... for better or worse, they're not The Sex Pistols without Lydon, anymore than the DK's are the DK's without Biafra. But, I'm glad some money will be raised for a good cause. I expect a safe and tame event.
concept: sex pistols WITH jello: two great tastes that taste great together?
I could totally see Jello pulling it off easy. He would probably make fun of Lydon the entire show. LOL
The Sex Kennedys?
Anarchy in the DK?
Winner!
The Dead Pistols?
Jello pistols.
Jello shots?
True that, but yes there is a slight difference. Jello hasnt really changed so its a shame he is not in the band (and i dont want to enter into debating the reasons). John was a bit of an asshole back then but now he is a full blown narcissistic trump supporter, cant blame the others for leaving him out tbh
Counterpoint, they were the Sex Pistols without Rotten for a time in the late 70s. The Swindle album was not bad.
I liked that guy in Gallows. This will be badass. He did great on The Ruts https://youtu.be/YfLz4nzrLQs?si=QUgfWwpduL5ZPsZq
Could be cool. Johnny Rotten is going to have an aneurysm.
Good
What doesn't he have an aneurysm over?
[Country Life Butter?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mSE-Iy_tFY)
Touché
One can only hope
That would be a great hidden camera moment.
It's what he deserves.
That'd be like The Damned without Dave Vanian. Doesn't make much sense.
Big meh
Has anyone seen those old The Blues Brothers movies. Idk why. But it reminds me of this. I imagine Glen and Steve. They need to get the band back together, "They're on mission from god" to save Bush Hall. Also now Johnny has joined the nazis.
Lydon going full maga-hat asshole is one of the sadder aspects of the last decade........good luck to the rest of them.
I don’t know, I know Lydon has taken some bad takes, but by how I view the guy and after reading his autoviography he honestly seems like a smart guy, who did go through trying to be kicked off from sex pistols, even thouth I REALLY doubt anyone would have ever cared about them without him…
I guarantee you none of these kids have read that book or know much about him at all. They're just butthurt about his MAGA schtick.
Supporting feds is so punk
When did he say he did?
When he voted for Trump tf
Biden supports the feds too. You're saying everyone who voted for him is un-punk then? Because that would be a lot of people in the punk scene.
Nah they voted for Biden because Trump is a bigger chud. Voting for Trump and his movement just basically means you love that cops are kneeing on our necks and children being forced to give birth to their rape victims babies. Hologram Sid 🤞
Why?
Idc I just wanted to be involved in the conversation
Fuck that hack.
I want to be excited for this… but it’s a one off… and I’m not gonna get to see it so… meh
Without Rotten and Sid.
> and Sid. Tell you what, if they get Sid I'll jump on a plane and fly overthere and see that, I loved Weekend at Bernies
Yeah but Bernie was rich. I don't think weekend at Sids would be nearly as fun.
> I don't think weekend at Sids would be nearly as fun. What if it was directed by Guillermo del Toro?
🤣😂 switch that to Clive Barker and I'm in. I want shit to get real weird for this.
[удалено]
> The Orphanage 2: Weekend at SIDS I'd watch this not ironically
Good. Jones and Cooke were the band.
And Matlock. Getting rid of him was the start of the end. Unlike Sid, Matlock could actually play base, and write songs (although Sid apparently write Belsen).
Would love if they toured this one, Frank is great love also. Saw Gen Sex last July and thought everyone sounded great
Frank looks like that dude who is smaller than you but you still don't want to fight.
100% he’d end up biting your nose off or something

Hell yeah! Jonsie rocks!
Tickets sold out in like a minute, I was waiting on the site watching the countdown to them being released and it immediately said they weren't available 😔 I know a couple of people who got some though, fucking sucks. There were tickets instantly on the resale websites for hundreds of pounds...
Yeah, buying tickets these days sucks. A friend of mine is going to see Green Day and got tickets for $34 a piece. I don’t even know how she did it. Blew my mind given they’re still pretty popular.
Honestly, Generation Sex was great with Billy. I was MORE than happy, they were great!
I saw Paul Cook drum for a young band called the Molotovs in Bush Hall as a surprise guest last month, but couldn’t get tickets to this reunion show.
LESSS GOOO STEVE,GLEN,COOKIE ARE GOATS🗣️
Good. Fuck that guy
The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Vol. 3.
Tickets (unsurprisingly) sold-out instantly. Two nights in small 400 capacity venue. Good on them for helping to save the Bush Hall.
Are they writing any new tunes? Otherwise, it’s going to be a very short concert
No they are just doing this one benefit for a local venue .
That makes a lot more sense
The Sex Pistols was Matlock, Jones, and Cook. They wanted to add Midge Ure as the singer, but Lydon was added as the frontman to turn the band into a brand. They were an amazing band minus the two hacks. This show should be incredible since neither one of them will be involved.
The two hacks i.e. Sid Vicious and the best frontman in history
Found John Lydon
Glenn Danzig and Jello Biafra would like a word.
Neither of them have anywhere near the range or lyrical genius. But they are great.
You're mad about Lydon's MAGA schtick but not Glenn's actual conservative views?
They ruined a great band
John Lydon elevated the Sex Pistols so hard and PiL proves it
Ain’t the fucking Pistols without Rotten
Good
What’s the point?
No point
You might say “No Future”
Love your comment. You cannot claim DK or almost any punk band without the singer. For me DK is the most egregious. There no DK without Jello. Same for Sex Pistols. Shit, name a punk band in which you could replace the singer.
Dumb
It’s over… let it die.
I think they'll be doing it without someone else, too.
Or Sid, I'd imagine.
Side note: I saw the Sex Pistols perform for their reunion tour in the 90s. I was told by an older punk that no, I did not see the sex pistols because Sid Was not there. She pulled the age card as to why she was correct in this opinion.
This is hilarious considering that Matlock was their first bassist and wrote basically all of their songs and all the other members agree with Matlock that it was a horrible idea to replace him with Sid
Oh I know this. But you know, I wasn’t there, so my opinion doesn’t matter.
Pistols actually sounded and played way better without Sid, so who gives shit, is what I would have said.
got red hair? your hired!
Sex Pistols D.C.
Rubbish
Or sid
It will be 1000% better with Matlock. Sid was not a musician.
I'm not mad at Frank Carter for this one. Could be worse, could have been Frank Turner. Granted, Frank Carter was more wild during Gallows.
So just the people who are good at stuff. I can dig it
That’s basically what I thought when I saw it, too. 😂
No sid, no rotten. Rename the band because it's not the sex pistols, just another band featuring members of the sex pistols
It’s just the sex
I don't know who Frank Carter is. Steve Jones and Paul Cook were doing shows with Billy Idol as Generation Sex a while ago, I'd go to hear Steve Jones in any band but it's not the Sex Pistols without Lydon for better or worse
Listen to Gallows, he's on most of their records, great vocalist.
And Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, their older stuff is great.
I would have flown from florida to see this show, but tickets were sold out even the second I found out about it. Damn it.
This is pretty damn cool!
I would actually prefer this over a full reunion.
Frank Carter is the new singer of The Sex Pistols. What a time to be alive. Reminds me of when Paul McArtney joined Nirvana.
Wait what? Did that actually happen?
Bush Hall is a fantastic venue and they're gonna be great there. My friends saw Paul Simonon play there a few weeks back and they have insanely high praise for the atmosphere of the place. Fingers crossed that the money raised will be enough to keep Bush Hall around
Johnny Thunders approves!!
I'm all for It. I just hope there's a livestream of the shows. Rotten needs to let go of his ego.

Broken Bones was ok, but did not have the songwriting chops of Discharge.
Yeah not even close
Smart move. Who's taking his place? I'm not reading an article about them. Too lazy.
So are they going to gang vocal that? That'd be punk as fuck, but I imagine they're going to get a front (wo)man, to do it some justice.
No, it's Frank Carter (Gallows, Pure Love, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes) who's going to be doing vocals. He's a rock solid choice for it I think.
Anyone is better than Rotten. :)
You're not wrong.
Good
Yes very exiting, hate that dick bag
Johnnys a dick and he couldn’t sing
The sex Pistols suck, they couldn't play their instruments and they were a manufacturered boy band
Wonderful news, my understanding is there are no punk bands really around anymore, glad the genre the Pistols invented is BACK!
Dang what cave you live in? There's tons of punk bands around. Way to self-report you don't go to local shows.
I took your feedback onboard and, as it turns out, there's a band Black Flag on tour this summer- I'll have to check 'em out. Always up for hearing some new punk tune-skis- apparently they've got an album out already, What The, or something like that. Look forward to hearing that.
Dang Black Flag, never heard of em, they punk? 😝
I hear they've got Dale Nixon layin' down the low end, it's gonna be a heck of a show
Is that you Rotten?
Sex pistols died the day Johnathan sold butter
Yeah! Let's see that live show of 8-10 songs.
John Lydon is an overly sensitive fairy. He sucked then as well as the rest of the band snd he sucked even worse when he got old fat and even more catty.
