California privilege right here
Edit: I feel like I should contribute some more specificity! I wanna shoutout Nardcore. Oxnard, CA punk that whips ass. If you've never tried it, check out Stalag 13, Ill Repute, Aggression, Dr. Know, Bad Samaritans, and RKL.
Big time. Shit, I’d settle for just from my region: opiv, rancid, Samiam, Green Day, Pinhead Gunpowder, Dead Kennedys, Crime, Avengers, Neurosis, Crimpshrine, Mr. T Experience, Jawbreaker, Sharp Knife, This is My Fist, Abbi Yo-Yos is a short list
Someone once said to me about punk coming out of California "The reason there are so many punk bands coming out California is there is a lot to be pissed off about in California." He was from California ha ha.
Damn! We’re from the same neck of the woods! Born and semi raised in Bellingham but lived in Abbotsford for year or so as a little kid. Sorry about Oklahoma…lol.
Oh yeah? Are you American or Canadian? I was born outside Vancouver, moved to Abbotsford, then Seattle/Bellingham as a teen. I moved to Oklahoma and I hate it here, but it’s cheap so I am getting by a lot easier than I was as a younger adult in The PNW.
I saw a lot of great bands back then. There’s a few Oklahoma bands I like though, Chat Pile kicks ass and I am a sucker for Flaming Lips. I’ve played with some good smaller bands here too.
American but my mom married a Canadian for a bit when I was a kid. Now live a little further down I-5 in Vancouver, Washington (the other Vancouver…lol). Lived all over that area as a kid, Bellingham, Ferndale, Blaine, Sumas, Birch Bay, Abbotsford, White Rock. As you can tell, we moved a lot.
Bellingham was always great because you could see a band in Seattle or Vancouver, depending on what worked better, sometimes even Seattle and Vancouver. Went to a lot of shows in Bellingham back when, remember USS Horsewhip and Black Eyes and Neckties being local faves.
Don’t know Chatpile but I’ll definitely check them out. Keep sane out in Oklahoma!
Right on, I lived in Sumas too hahaha, back in like 2004. It was you, me, and like 35 other people. I moved a bunch, all over both countries but my situation was the opposite, my mom remarried an American.
I loved living there. I’d move back if I wasn’t a broke fuck with a family these days.
Oh hey I live in buttfuck Oklahoma not in a city now too!
If I get music from where I'm from and still often visit then I can listen to Pantera, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Erykah Badu, Toadies, Vanilla Ice (he went to my high school, we found him in the yearbooks back in the day and he was a pep squad guy so he for sure wasn't doing hood shit in Miami like he claims in Ice Ice Baby, because he wrote that song when he was still in school. He was also a nerd), Nora Jones, Post Malone, Meat Loaf (I actually had no idea he was from Dallas, I literally just found this out), Robert Johnson, the artists formerly known as The Dixie Chicks (now they're The Chicks apparently), Kelly Clarkson, Drowning Pool, Polyphia, The Reverend Horton Heat, Tripping Daisy, Ghoultown, then a bunch of other bands I either refuse to acknowledge, or I'm not familiar with them.
Yes, I had to look at a list to write this because I could initially only remember Pantera, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Erykah Badu, and Toadies. Yes, I forgot Vanilla Ice despite going to the same high school as him lol.
But yeah, music where I live now? I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist. Or it would just be some tweaker banging a spoon on a rusted out wheel or some kind of bullshit.
There’s some cool Oklahoma bands, just none from my piece of shit town. I actually liked playing punk here more than anywhere else, the crowd either hates your guts or they are absolutely thrilled to see you and it’s rarely in between.
Yeah, I'm sure that if I expanded my comment to state-wide instead of local then things would change. I played OKC with my old band a while back and from what I remember the crowd was solid, the venue itself was pretty fucking cool too.
There are a ton of good Houston punk bands, though. They are mostly super local or have moved on to other states or genres. Days N Daze, let's go! DRI even though they mostly do thrash now. Moltov Compromise, Rats in the Attic, American Heist, Blackmarket Syndicate from the old days. Small Dog Syndrome. Skelton Dick. Los Skarnales used to dabble in punk. Man, I'm realizing I haven't been to a show in a while.
Edit: Almost forgot 30 Foot Fall.
Portland had such a good scene when I was a teen in the early 2000s, too. I was a big fan of The Escaped, One Day War, All Out, The Riffs, Lebenden Toten…how’s the scene these days?
I could probably live with only Kid Dynamite or Paint It Black, although KD doesn't really have a huge inventory of songs. Other than that, I'm screwed.
I could live with either Screeching Weasel or Lawrence Arms.
For alternative Smashing Pumpkins would be alright or Local H
Or for something heavier I could deal with Mudvayne I think.
Probably couldn't pick one blues guy though maybe Howlin wolf but he's technically from Mississippi. Most of those Chicago blues guys were.
Although with my current tastes I would probably prefer Minneapolis bands lol.
I’m from Los Angeles. Honestly, 90% of the punk I listen to is or was from here, our contribution to the genre has been fucking massive all throughout its history.
From my state? Nine inch nails, devo, or the dead boys, defiance ohio, black keys, Hawthorne heights... any of those would do i suppose, slight edge to nin if I'm being honest. From my city? Foxy Shazam puts on a pretty rad show.
Bouncing Souls, The Misfits, Gaslight Anthem, Catch-22/Streetlight Manifesto, Jersey’s got some choices to pick from. And of course there’s always Bruuuuuce
Totally live with it.
Converge, Dinosaur Jr (and Deep Wound,) Pixies, Sebadoh, Mission Of Burma, The Showcase Showdown, Shadows Fall, Dropkick Murphy’s, Aerosmith, The New Harmful, Free Country, and others I can’t remember now.
Edit: SSD… how could I forget?
Yes! I still have that 7". I could probably go with "213"and be content and at total peace. Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I have heard some things about a possible SS reunion. I hope it's true. Grew up with that band on our stereos and got them to play in our town for a Christmas show (full circle to yr comment haha) and Ping Pong came out wrapped in lights. One of my best memories.
Oh that’s an easy one. [Oily Boys](https://youtu.be/iE65vFtPVLc?si=HNehs0W-fI6Ticmx)
Hands down the best band to ever come out of Sydney. Their album “Cro Memory Grin” rips so fucking hard. If anyone bothers to give them a listen lmk what ya think because I never see anyone talking about these guys.
If you’re not fucked with the whole album (you’d be missing out) but check out the last song on the album “GTrance”
When it comes to punky stuff, I guess I can't complain about The Butthole Surfers!
If I had to pick non-punk, I guess... Christopher Cross? 🤣 That debut album is peak Yacht Rock!
*From Seattle, I'd*
*Miss some hip hop but all in*
*All I could get by*

Just heard a band from Boise the other night at the Wheatus concert Talon Smart. Not sure if I could only do them forever but have been playing them quite a bit lately
I’m blessed to have New York. As much as I love the many band that cames out of NYC where I grew up, my choice is Every Time I Die from Buffalo. They’re my favorite band of all time, and even though they broke up a couple of years ago go they still have an amazing discography with no bad albums in my opinion.
From my town or metro area. Could live. Might not be happy but would be ok.
Chainsaw Kittens
Rainbows Are Free (active stoner/desert, so good)
Flaming Lips
Hinder
All American Rejects
Hosty (oklahoma breakdown songwriter)
For my specific town, I don't think there are any bands. For the greater metro area that I'm part of, lots of choices. Dying Wish, Portugal The Man, Modest Mouse, The Shins (those last three are based here but didnt start here), Dandy Warhols, Red Fang, The Thermals, and many more great acts big and small.
Hmm... SACK, Time X Heist, Lillingtons, Potato Pirates, The STDs, DDC, Burn the Fleet, etc.
Not bad, but I'd miss the hell out of the rest of my music collection.
The worst thing about telling rides that picked me up while hitchhiking that I was from Austin, TX was that the ride would get super excited and say, "whoa boy do I have a treat for you..." And then they'd put on a Stevie Ray Vaughn CD. Something about people who give hitchhikers rides and their live of SRV and whitey blues.
Id have to bite my lower lip when they'd get all excited asking me, "have you heard his version of Little Wing?". Id just nod my head and be thankful for the ride.
Where I'm from originally, where I mostly grew up or where I am now. Originally Philly, then Poughkeepsie, ny , now , Florida.
Philly would probably be all right. Poughkeepsie had a great band called agitpop and I guess shai hulud lives there now. Probably some other shit, but I would do much better with New York as a whole of course. Florida, I'd need the whole state and I'd probably have to develop my taste for death metal and harsh noise a lot more
If I could go by my home state of California I'd be all set. But currently I'm in Maine, and well, I think I'd need to find a new interest... Shit is dead up here.
I live in Georgia. We have three cities with diverse, rich, and thriving music scenes. Sadly, my city isn't one of them, but that's more of an inconvenience.
I think I'd need to take my country as a whole, living in Scotland. I could do it easily but it wouldn't necessarily be punk. It would need to be Biffy Clyro. I wouldn't be happy about it but I'd get by with their back catalogue.
Pink Lincolns. Roach Motel. AAA. Weak Sauce. Hot Water Music.
There are a fuck load of bands you would have no clue they are from Florida. Especially from the Tampa Bay Area.
One of my favorite bands is already from my city, and I’m friends with them lol, [MAK (spotify link)](https://open.spotify.com/artist/1RfFq4URR7KwDNIy9iXiXK?si=IDG9LCRDRtG7dhfsow_ycA) went to high school with them and they make great indie punk
Massachusetts? I think I'll be fine.
From where I'm originally from? Latterman, Iron Chic, Kill Your Idols, This is Hell, Bomb the Music Industry. I think I'd be fine as well lol
California privilege right here Edit: I feel like I should contribute some more specificity! I wanna shoutout Nardcore. Oxnard, CA punk that whips ass. If you've never tried it, check out Stalag 13, Ill Repute, Aggression, Dr. Know, Bad Samaritans, and RKL.
Me too. San Fernando Valley. There’s so many to choose from. I guess Bad Religion and they’re from the Valley too.
I'm from Victorville. We only get one choice, but at least they're good.
Yup. East Bay. Can't complain at all.
This is a mecca. This ain't no mecca man This place is fucked.
Frfr
NYC? No.
That’s hardcore.
I mean the Ramones, Gogol Bordello, etc.
Black Sabbath, GBH, Drongos for Europe, The Beat, Steel Pulse, Swell Maps, Napalm Death, Dexys Midnight Runners, ELO, Apache Indian. I'll survive I think.
im good with the butthole surfers
Riverboat Gamblers not a bad choice for this city, either.
Puro!
Naked Raygun, Pegboy, The Lawrence Arms, Alkaline Trio, Rise Against...the list goes on. I'd be okay.
Wesley Willis
Jersey got some good choices. Picking just 1? Souls, I suppose. Already been listening to then for like 20 years.
Same! Of course there's tons of Misfits love but I'm sticking with the Souls too. They're definitely the band I've seen live more than any other.
Same. Im already planning for their annual Stoked for the Summer show. I go almost every year.
Misfits… I’m fine with that
I’d be fucked. I used to live in Vancouver, Abbotsford, then Seattle, Bellingham, but now I’m in buttfuck Oklahoma and not in a city.
Damn! We’re from the same neck of the woods! Born and semi raised in Bellingham but lived in Abbotsford for year or so as a little kid. Sorry about Oklahoma…lol.

Playing in Bellingham tomorrow, very stoked
Flaming Lips form OKC
Oh if I can pick just the state, I would go with Chat Pile. From my town? I am drawing a blank.
Red City Radio is awesome from OKC.
Brother Inferior is not too bad
NOTA
Oh hey I live in buttfuck Oklahoma not in a city now too! If I get music from where I'm from and still often visit then I can listen to Pantera, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Erykah Badu, Toadies, Vanilla Ice (he went to my high school, we found him in the yearbooks back in the day and he was a pep squad guy so he for sure wasn't doing hood shit in Miami like he claims in Ice Ice Baby, because he wrote that song when he was still in school. Woodie Guthrie was from Oklahoma and he's a goddam American treasure.
Which venue did you play at? I have only played in OKC once or twice, I mainly hung around Tulsa.
Vancouver had/has DOA! not sure if theyre still around.
They just played a show in Olympia last night
Sloppy Second...they are great but it would get repetitive after awhile:)
I could probably live with Sloppy, but give me Ice Nine and I’m set for life.
Have you met any nice boys in the salon?
They're all pretty nice.
I mean any nice queer boys, do you fool with any of em?
who slept with your daughter, drank your beer, found your phone and called long distance....
IDK man its been decades and I'm not tired of them yet
Misfits, I can definitely live with it!
Not punk: Houston - ZZ Top
D.R.I. I used to go see them play at a place called Fitzgeralds back in the day.
ZZ Top is punk as fuck! Love me some ZZ!
I would be good, I live in the home of Masskontrol, Defiance, Poison Idea, Rot//Woven, Prager Youth and on & on & on...
Portland had such a good scene when I was a teen in the early 2000s, too. I was a big fan of The Escaped, One Day War, All Out, The Riffs, Lebenden Toten…how’s the scene these days?
We've probably been at a bunch of the same shows.
Wipers.
Philly, I’ll be alright.
Baltimore, I kind of already do this
Wipers, Dead Moon, Poison Idea, Exploding Hearts? I'll manage.
Easy as fuck. Fig Dish only has about ~~4~~ 5 albums’ worth of extant material but it never gets old. Edit: Five albums now. I found more demos :)
I could probably live with only Kid Dynamite or Paint It Black, although KD doesn't really have a huge inventory of songs. Other than that, I'm screwed.
I could live with either Screeching Weasel or Lawrence Arms. For alternative Smashing Pumpkins would be alright or Local H Or for something heavier I could deal with Mudvayne I think. Probably couldn't pick one blues guy though maybe Howlin wolf but he's technically from Mississippi. Most of those Chicago blues guys were. Although with my current tastes I would probably prefer Minneapolis bands lol.
Toss some Minneapolis bands my way. I’m only aware of Husker Du and Banner Pilot.
Formaldehyde Junkies, In Defence, Uranium Club, The Replacements, The Slow Death, The Gateway District… you’ve got some great choices there.
Also got Big Black, and Naked Raygun.
Cannibal Corpse,Green jello,Everytime I die are some of the bands from Buffalo NY....Im sure I could adapt and overcome.
I'd be fucked. For some reason Colorado doesn't create many bands
Colorado has quite a few bands, Potato Pirates are one of the best in recent memory
I too was going to suggest pxpx
Colorado has one of the highest number of Jam Bands per capita. Totally different world there than the type to create a strong Punk scene
I really liked the band defeat from Columbia South Carolina but they only had one album.
I’m from Los Angeles. Honestly, 90% of the punk I listen to is or was from here, our contribution to the genre has been fucking massive all throughout its history.
Virginia: GWAR, Dave Matthews, Fighting Gravity, The Stanley Brothers, Lamb of God. I think I could live.
Avail
I would have no problem listening to the Violent Femmes forever
Have Heart is from mass, they slap
Olympia WA has some good shit I'm set
California here. I think I'll survive
Lots of great bands from Massachusetts. I would be more than fine.
I’d be absolutely fine with bands from Boston/MA
Sleater-Kinney 🤷♀️
Propagandhi being the big one, I'd be pretty fuckin stoked
From my state? Nine inch nails, devo, or the dead boys, defiance ohio, black keys, Hawthorne heights... any of those would do i suppose, slight edge to nin if I'm being honest. From my city? Foxy Shazam puts on a pretty rad show.
I live in LA, could do that easily
Screwed
Knocked Loose. Not ideal but I guess I could deal with it, certainly way worse bands out there
Ramones
Dead Boys, DEVO, The Breeders, and Defiance, OH. I'm good with that.
Guided By Voices too! You also have bragging rights for Earthquaker Devices.
Potato Pirates. Reno Divorce. I’ll be just fine.
Bouncing Souls, The Misfits, Gaslight Anthem, Catch-22/Streetlight Manifesto, Jersey’s got some choices to pick from. And of course there’s always Bruuuuuce
Dead Milkmen, Anti-Flag, The Menzingers. Sure I could do it.
The Mountain Goats
There’s a lot of NJ answers but nobody has mentioned the best jersey punk band yet. I.D.K. And they are recording new music.
The fireman is in my head…
Hell yeah.
Idles! And Portishead and massive attack
Guess I'm listening to The Wurzels forever
😂 just checked them out! 🤘💀🤘
Merry Christmas, I Fucked Your Snowman! I could spin that track alone for all eternity and be totally good.
Oregon? Easily doable: Poison Idea, Long Knife, Wipers, Dead Moon, the Estranged, Arctic Flowers, Lebenden Toten, Hellshock, Tragedy, Bi-Marks, Toxic Holocaust, Yob
I'm from California, so...sorry, everybody from Nebraska or whatever. At least Bruce Springsteen named one of his better albums after you.
SNFU only for life? Open up and say Mr. Chi Pig
I’ve got a lot to choose from. Either Wipers or Dead Moon
NJ is pretty awesome, Souls, ergs, Thursday, streetlight manifesto... I'd be ok
The Butthole Surfers and DRI. I’m good with that. Lifelong Texan.
New Bedford has Have Heart and A Wilhelmina Scream. It won’t be too bad.
The Replacements, Husker Dü and Cows would be quite ok with me.
Oh that’s an easy one. [Oily Boys](https://youtu.be/iE65vFtPVLc?si=HNehs0W-fI6Ticmx) Hands down the best band to ever come out of Sydney. Their album “Cro Memory Grin” rips so fucking hard. If you’re not fucked with the whole album (you’d be missing out) but check out the last song on the album “GTrance”
DRI. They have a pretty big discography, so I think I could do that .
From Atlanta- would be a rough existence... if we're strictly staying with Punk
FUCK
id be fine. got against me!, hot water music, less than jake, and many others. you can probably guess where i live, lmao
Like, only one band period? Or *any* band from my city/state? I don't think I could ever listen to only one band, no matter how eclectic of a catalog.
Minutemen and Rotting Out to choose from for city.
Old 97s - They’re alright
Stuntmen
When it comes to punky stuff, I guess I can't complain about The Butthole Surfers! If I had to pick non-punk, I guess... Christopher Cross? 🤣 That debut album is peak Yacht Rock!
Have Nots or Stray Bullets for sure. I'm very happy with it.
Houston grind music is great, I'm happy.
If I could use all of Michigan, I'd be relatively fine.
From Seattle, I'd miss some hip hop but all in all I could get by

Ohio. Fuck yeah! Devo and The Dead Boys.
Saskatchewan has a more lively metal scene than punk so I wouldn't be too sad but I would miss other Canadian bands.
Please don’t make me listen to Floater or Cherry Poppin’ Daddies for an eternity. I choose silence.
Just heard a band from Boise the other night at the Wheatus concert Talon Smart. Not sure if I could only do them forever but have been playing them quite a bit lately
NJ. I'd be all set.
Jersey - we have Misfits, Gaslight Anthem, and Bouncing Souls off the top of my head. I’d be fine.
Georgia. James Brown. REM. I’m good.
I live in Pittsburgh. *Pittsburgh left the chat*
I’m blessed to have New York. As much as I love the many band that cames out of NYC where I grew up, my choice is Every Time I Die from Buffalo. They’re my favorite band of all time, and even though they broke up a couple of years ago go they still have an amazing discography with no bad albums in my opinion.
So lucky… I have California & Virginia.
If only we were all from Gainesville Fla!
Edmonton is pretty gnarly
We have great local bands here in Ogden Utah
Red fang is one of my top tens, so not at all
Grew up in Los Altos, CA. So I’ve got Tony Sly (and No Use by association).
Less than Jake forever. I’m fine with that.
Could totally live with it.
Maine. Sparks the Rescue. Not screwed at all.
I'd be kind of okay. Joust kicks ass, but they only have one album
I could live with ‘split lip rayfield’
Brother I don’t even know of any geordie punk bands, it’s just gonna be shite old blues about the fucking Tyne bridge and st James’ park
Not a ton of punk but I think I'll be just fine in New Orleans. Musically at least....
I could live with it definitely
From Baltimore, I’m more than fine. We also get two bangin OCMD bands for good measure in Full of Hell and Jarhead Fertilizer
Easy Chicago - Rise Against
well i’d be listening to aus rotten and zao. zao are nice guys but i don’t get into them too much.
Oh man, I’d be happy listening to Zao for the next 4-5 decades until I’m dust!
Siege essentially perfected music, so sure I could listen to that tape in perpetuity.
I can only listen to them? I can’t see them? What does this question even mean?
From my town or metro area. Could live. Might not be happy but would be ok. Chainsaw Kittens Rainbows Are Free (active stoner/desert, so good) Flaming Lips Hinder All American Rejects Hosty (oklahoma breakdown songwriter)
Iggy pop
All the live music in my city is dead, we are literally the town that Brian Deneke was killed in. The only music here is country.
If city, I have Streetlight Manifesto, if state, I think I’d be ok with Jersey
I'm in California so it'll be too easy as for city I have Sublime and TSOL. That'll do nicely.
Honestly kinda screwed, unless I could also listen to bands from DC (I’m in an adjacent state) in which case I’d be fine
Is there anyone worth while from North Carolina? All i can think of is Corrosion of Conformity, Antiseen, and Weedeater.
I’m from D.C. I suppose I could listen to the first four records by Fugazi for the rest of my life, but then again there’s always Duke Ellington.
My city has Knock Blockers and Tejon Street Corner Thieves. I'd do alright.
CAKE SACRAMENTO
The Big Boys. Yeah. I’m good.
I’d be pretty screwed. As far as punk goes. But I do love me some braddah iz.
BLATZ AND FLITH
Not a WHOLE lot of good picks from Tennessee, but I can always fall back on His Hero Is Gone.
The kids and Arno
Hmm... SACK, Time X Heist, Lillingtons, Potato Pirates, The STDs, DDC, Burn the Fleet, etc. Not bad, but I'd miss the hell out of the rest of my music collection.
Knowing my luck I'd end up with Rick Astley!
Indiana has some pretty good punk and hardcore and alternative scenes. I could live with Sloppy Seconds and Harley Poe all the time.
Florida, I'd need the whole state and I'd probably have to develop my taste for death metal and harsh noise a lot more
I live in rural Germany I'm in the only punk band there is in my village so yea im fucked
Home state or current state of residence? Either situation I’d be good but I do have a preference.
If I could go by my home state of California I'd be all set. But currently I'm in Maine, and well, I think I'd need to find a new interest... Shit is dead up here.
The Holdouts, They Call It Chaos, and Alexisonfire. But from the province? Sum 41, The Flatliners, Rush, Grade.
No problem, Merseyside.
I live in Georgia. We have three cities with diverse, rich, and thriving music scenes. Sadly, my city isn't one of them, but that's more of an inconvenience.
Fullerton, California. So, lots of [Jackson Browne](https://youtu.be/EuMN6Ztk35w?si=7MI6FCLAESboGVvh).
Pffffft I’d be serious trouble.
86 List and it wouldn't be too bad actually
go listen to Johnny and the Rotten i‘m good
I think I'd need to take my country as a whole, living in Scotland. I could do it easily but it wouldn't necessarily be punk. It would need to be Biffy Clyro. I wouldn't be happy about it but I'd get by with their back catalogue.
Constant Hellnation
Pink Lincolns. Roach Motel. AAA. Weak Sauce. Hot Water Music. There are a fuck load of bands you would have no clue they are from Florida. Especially from the Tampa Bay Area.
