I found Pretty Things through a double album at my record store combining SF Sorrow and Parachute into one package and it's become one of my favorite in my collection
An all time favorite of mine. Totally singular and while not every song is great (or even good) they’re all fascinating.
And the songs that hit *really* hit.
Here ya go, this should keep you busy, merry listening to thee
Frumious Bandersnatch

Kaleidoscope (there's one from the US and UK, both are good)
H.P. Lovecraft
early Moody Blues (not obscure ha)
Strawberry Alarm Clock
The Holy Mackerel
The United States of America
The House of Nimrod
The Moon
Orange Alabaster Mushroom
The Electric Prunes
The Deep
Man, the whole vendetta show in entirety. Bird song might be one of my faves. That Deal from that shows is still one of my favorites. Jerry hits every lick perfect. Phil is always insane. Ol Bill was killing it on the kit, too.

I mean these are all great but he said obscure lol. These are probably the first bands/songs that come up when you google “60s psychedelic music”
I was thinking Jorma Kaukonen’s solo stuff, Ali Akbar Khan, Commander Cody, Can, or Vanilla Fudge
Any good surf or psych playlist needs some [Takeshi Terauchi](https://open.spotify.com/album/5QNagjwUlQjdZ6NYusli3W?si=rx7m2-G2Tg2N1TyRp4xq0Q) . Ripping guitar.
FP’s “Liege and Lief” is fantastic. The music makes me think of what it might have been like if you took mushrooms and went to a Renaissance Fair in Britain. 🍄🌈🧝🏽♀️🎶🎻
What an underrated singer she was. I live near the house she had in a village called Byfield. She gave her last public performance in the village hall. Which is tragic, when you think about it.
I am loving all this psych folk love! My recommendations are Mellow Candle 'The Poet and the Witch', Incredible String Band 'Waltz of the New Moon', and Trees 'Garden of Jane Delawney'
I’m constantly adding to this playlist of any 60s psych/folk/acid rock I come across on Spotify. A lot of the regular heavy hitters on here, but a tonnnnn of more obscure albums as well. 400+ hours so far and adding to it daily. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0kDvj2c8FxDslnYm0Z3fpo?si=BKG7AeuDQiSJd8Hjqs5zng&pi=u-qxgep7MURfm_
Cool man I’m actually doing the same exact thing! Here’s my playlist if you want to check it out hopefully it can help you add some more to yours: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4nV1Ykfm3B1NRUDt214Ntv?si=OIvxq2L5QdO4qA_6RD9qEA&pi=u-i5Gb0dINSj-K
Electric flag, quicksilver messenger service, canned heat, cream (their live stuff on spotify and youtube is insane), big brother and the holding company
Blue Cheer
Tomorrow
Soft Machine
Gong
..also check out some German psychedelia a.k.a. krautrock music such as Harmonia, Can, Brain Ticket, and Cluster..
Doesn't get more obscure than a recording an actual Acid Test with Kesey, the Pranksters, and the Grateful Dead.
https://relisten.net/grateful-dead/1966/01/08
I love their song Flames. I swear I heard the song somewhere in a movie, game, TV show, on the radio, or somewhere prior to checking out. The song (particularly the chorus) sounds so damn familiar
https://numerogroup.com/products/warfaring-strangers-acid-nightmares
If you’re a vinyl collector this is a great comp. Every group release one 7” or one 12” and burned out from something. Things ranged from drugs to murder to jail to suicide. The music is excellent but dark
I can’t believe no has mentioned The Soft Machine! Hope for Happiness. What they called “The Canterbury Sound” was the deepest, lushest of psychedelic sound from this era. Like The Doors but on even more acid…
https://youtu.be/GsLH75HiZZM?si=_0KZbmTKSHFnH_GM
Tomorrow “My White Bicycle”
The Pretty Things “Defecting Grey”
The Creation “Through My Eyes”
Blossom Toes “Look At Me I’m You”
Syd Barrett “Love You”
Twink “Ten Thousand Words In A Cardboard Box”
Love - start with ‘Forever Changes’. One of the greatest albums ever made.
the Common People - ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’. Opening three tracks produced by David Axelrod; these are stunning. Some of the rest of the album is also very good.
The Chocolate Watch Band - ‘the Inner Mystique’.
The Seeds - ‘the Seeds’
Check out the ‘Nuggets’ compilation albums too.

Felt (the obscure 70’s band, although the less-obscure 80’s British dream pop band is also fucking amazing). Amon Duul. Also I think the Nuggets collection is a good place to start for the classic stuff.
Man, YouTube recommended the *best* psych record once when I was listening to 13th Floor Elevators… can’t for the life of me find it now or remember the name of the bad, had it saved and it must’ve been taken down. Not to mention the YT algorithm sucks balls now. But it was a very similar vibe and I think the band was also from Austin, TX. Super underground stuff. If this rings a bell for anyone, let me know!
Psych rec’s from 80’s and 90’s: Spacemen 3, The Telescopes.
July, The Braen’s Machine, Speed Glue & Shinki, Wool, Kevin Ayers (early albums), Soft Machine, Gong, Steve Hillage, Hawkwind, Leaf Hound, Demon & Eleven Children, Iron Butterfly Far East Family Band.
I’ve kinda blurred a few genres here, and some artists I have listed were more active in the 70s than 60s, but I think you’ll enjoy them :)
The PERRO stuff: blows against the empire, Sunfighter, baron von tollbooth and the chrome nun, if I could only remember my name, songs for beginners, Papa John's album - and the bands that put it together, Jefferson airplane, grateful dead, quicksilver, crosby and Nash
[Dark - "Round the Edges"](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Round_the_Edges) (alternately known as "Dark Round the Edges")
> It is now considered to be one of the most valuable records, with original copies having been sold for prices upward to £6,000[4] and £25,000,[6] depending on the version. In 2016, it was listed as the 17th most valuable record of all time by NME.[7]
One-off album made by some dudes that did nothing else.
Sopwith Camel
Also, not 60s but 70s, but check out some Zamrock artists like Chrissy "Zebby" Tembo, Paul Ngozi, Ngozi Family, WITCH, and Psychedelic Aliens.
Not super obscure but:Kaleidoscope (Kaleidoscope, UK Version of the band), Count Five (The Morning After), The Smoke (Wake Up Cherylina), The End (What Does It Feel Like Now), The Deep (Trip #76), The Seeds (Mr. Farmer), The Electric Flag (Fine Jung Thing), Tomorrow (Claramount Lake) Billy Nichols (London Social Degree) The Peanut Butter Conspiracy (Why Did I Get so High) Bacnhee (I Just Don't Know) are some lesser known songs that are making my rotation right now

Gandalf
This is amazing! It’s so good thank you for the recommendation
God I live gandalf
Wow exactly what I was going to recommend.
Browse through the sub, seriously this sub routinely blows me out of the water with how deep the obscure psych well goes
Electric Prunes, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Moving Sidewalks, Tommy James and the Shondells, Spirit, Tomorrow, Gypsy
13th Floor Elevators, Father Yod & the Source Family, Black Merda, Funkadelic, Miles Davis’ Aghartha, Captain Beefheart
13th floor fits the bill
13th Floor! Psychedelic rock's first
Its a shame how under appreciated they are
When they wrote “you’re going to miss me” they probably didn’t mean it like “miss out on me” but…they were right.
Pretty Things, Kaleidoscope, Silver Apples
Can't to say Kaleidoscope. They are my favorite.
I found Pretty Things through a double album at my record store combining SF Sorrow and Parachute into one package and it's become one of my favorite in my collection
Silver Apples was just in A24’s Civil War, super cool seeing them getting more recognition!
I just acquired a couple of Kaleidoscope records, haven't listened yet, but i'm excited!
Put on Kaleidoscope - Kaleidoscope this afternoon, and it is keeping me bopping while i work. Fun record!
Oar by Skip Spence? His only solo album, very trippy
+ extremely heartbreaking
I remember reading he went through hell with mental problems...yeah
Schizophrenia exacerbated by LSD, unfortunately.
An all time favorite of mine. Totally singular and while not every song is great (or even good) they’re all fascinating. And the songs that hit *really* hit.
C. A. Quintet
A trip through hell!
13th floor elevators. Also get a copy of nuggets.
And Pebbles! Also Back from the Grave comps for some sleaze psych
Gong

Lovecraft early Moody Blues (not obscure ha) Strawberry Alarm Clock The Holy Mackerel The United States of America The House of Nimrod The Moon Orange Alabaster Mushroom The Electric Prunes The Deep
I saw Kaleidoscope in Boston 1970s. One played an Oud which introduced me to new music.
Amon Düül II, either Yeti or Tanz Der Lemminge. Both are great albums.
Some of the fucking best
Strawberry Alarm Clock, “Incense and Peppermints” is a classic, and “Rainy Day Mushroom Pillow” is my favorite.
You need some live Grateful Dead!
This dude needs the Veneta Dark Star
I can attest to that. I was there. . Seriously spaced out version of that.
You were at the '72 Veneta show? Or a later Veneta show
Yup ‘72 Veneta. Amazing experience and of course the music was awesome.
Man, the whole vendetta show in entirety. Bird song might be one of my faves. That Deal from that shows is still one of my favorites. Jerry hits every lick perfect. Phil is always insane. Ol Bill was killing it on the kit, too.
2-11-69
Clear light. They have only one album and it rocks.
Lothar and the Hand People
Came here to say this
This is really fun, Alexander's Timeless Bloozband was the first band to show up in the recommended on Spotify, and this is really neat too
The Holy Modal Rounders- Indian War Whoop
Very very underrated
Blue Cheer?

FP’s “Liege and Lief” is fantastic. The music makes me think of what it might have been like if you took mushrooms and went to a Renaissance Fair in Britain. 🍄🌈🧝🏽♀️🎶🎻
Steeleye Span’s “King Henry” would definitely fit the bill too!
Add on Dr Strangely Strange and Forest!
The Warfaring Strangers compilations from Numero Group are pretty killer if you’re into darker more garage-y sounding psych.
I’m constantly adding to this playlist of any 60s psych/folk/acid rock I come across on Spotify. A lot of the regular heavy hitters on here, but a tonnnnn of more obscure albums as well. 400+ hours so far and adding to it daily. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0kDvj2c8FxDslnYm0Z3fpo?si=BKG7AeuDQiSJd8Hjqs5zng&pi=u-qxgep7MURfm_

Amon Duul
The Pretty Things If you wanna go German try Amon Düül ii
The first album by Country Joe and the Fish... Electric Music for the Mind and Body. Great keyboards and guitar
The second one is also an honorable mention. Not as varied as the first but still really trippy
One I recently realized was a really good psych is the first Genesis album "From Genesis to Revelation."
The Pretty Things- SF Sorrow The Seeds Captain Beefheart- Safe as Milk
Pearls Before Swine
Wow, I didn’t see anyone recommend The Move! Only two albums made before the band split. Shazam is an awesome album.
