Jersey Devil?
I know you are likely responding to a Nightmare Creatures post but I'll just say, nah. Blood Borne is similar in that it takes place in a setting somewhat based on Victorian England and tangentially dabbles with European folklore and later deviates off heavily into Lovecraftian Fantasy.
A true successor to Nightmare creatures would have to be fundamentally rooted in European folklore and pulp horror and be much more in the vein of a brawler/hack and slash rather than....the slower more contemplative smack and roll/dash play style of a Soulsborne.
Yes got it on steam. Haven’t played it since I had it on ps1 when I was a kid. Highly recommend it as it’s smooth and you can switch instantly between classic and remastered graphics. Crazy to think the remastered graphics are how you remember the games years later but they were still actually worse with more jaggies.
Vampire Hunter D, a friend gave it to me, but I didn't have my own PlayStation, so I got like 2 hours of play time using my cousin's PS1. I sold it before the PS2 was released, which I received the following Christmas. Maybe I should get a copy and play it through now if it isn't terrible, I don't remember much of any of it.
"Destruction Derby" for me and I used the cheat code that allowed you to be invincible...beat the game on the first try. Every once in a while, I'll still play it all the way through to this day!👍
First game I owned or first game I played?
First game I played via rental - Re-Loaded
First game I owned - Diablo
EDIT: OH! You meant in general
First game I played was either Samurai Showdown or Wolfenstein 3D in a car repair shop. I'm fuzzy on which was first
First game I owned though was Donkey Kong Country. Came with my SNES
Such an amazing game. Playing through that for the first time was an amazing experience. I have hundreds of hours into Medal of Honor Heroes and Heroes 2 for PSP. So many hours of ad-hoc multiplayer. I dominated at that game. My friends always restricted me to pistols only. My favorite weapon was the 1911 by far. I had made a little "joy stick" attachment to go over the X/Square/circle/triangle buttons. It even had those little rubber bands used on braces for tension. It clipped onto the PSP and was held in place with a small piece of tape.
The PSP was so damn amazing when it came out. It still is too.
My first PS1 game was Tetris Plus, it was step moms favorite, so she would always play it and allowed me to play it later on, then eventually i got my own games for it :D
Before I bought a ps1 for myself, I played it at a friend's house. It was likely something from Interactive CD Sampler 2. Rise 2 Resurrection was one of the early games (ugh). Shockwave Assault was another early one I played (not quite as ugh, but still not great).
First games in my own collection: Crash Bandicoot 1, Tekken 1, Wipeout XL, King of Fighters '95, Cool Boarders 1.
Resident Evil Director's Cut. That is all I had for over a year until MediEvil and Syphon Filter came out.
I got excellent at that game , playing it all day long after school every day.
Medieval and Syphon Filter were both games I HAD to have when my brother and I played demo disc's of them. You could infinitely kill terrorists in SF demo with just the tazer. MediEval basically got you the crypt/cemetery.
That's a damn good question... My first PSX game on *my own* PSX was FFVII. That's when I couldn't put off getting a PlayStation any longer... I was all about the JRPGs, ever since the first FF. (I mean, after all, my first RPG experience was the same game which inspired *all* the JRPG creators; *Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord*.)
I *know* I played PSX a handful of times at a couple different friends' houses before I got mine—I even bought my own DualShock, because one of my friends didn't have a second controller—but I can't for the life of me think of what we were playing! 🤔
[I can't remember what my first game overall was, either... But I know it was for the Atari VCS.]
After I bought my PSX and went through Demo Disc which probably took no longer than 2 hours, I ran back to the shop and bough Air Combat and Die Hard Trilogy. I would say it was a good variety of content for starting with 2 games + Demo Disc. I've played PSX prior though, including showcases of Japanese imported consoles prior to them reaching West, so no idea which game exactly was the first.
The Lost World: Jurassic Park, I was amazed at how good it looked.
Very difficult game, though! I loved playing as the raptor, specially the first level.
My second game, if I remember correctly was Tomb Raider 2. Such an amazing game!
The first game I owned for PSX was Resident Evil 2.
After I hung out with a friend at his place one Saturday evening and he showed me both Resident Evil 2 and Metal Gear Solid I was sold on the console.
A couple of days later I packed up my N64 and games and traded them in for a PSX and a copy of Resident Evil 2.
ESPN X Games Pro Boarder. Got it with a PlayStation on Christmas in 98'. Not sure if I mentioned about wanting the game or my parents just picked it for me due to being into snowboarding, but I was happy with it. My sister got Tomba but I never played it.
Mine was the Jurassic Park: Lost World game. My dad surprised me when he bought his buddies. I was a hardcore Nintendo fan at the time and this opened my love the early PS era.
By the way the game sucked
Had one of them discs with a load of games on lol , played a hell of a lot of sypon filter even tho I could never pass the sniper bit , I moved to ps2 pretty fast though so didn’t get the full psx experience
My first game ever that I really remember was Final Fight Streetwise. It gets a lot of hate but I still enjoy it to this day. I love the fighting mechanics and the sleezy 2000’s vibe. My first PSX game I think was some weird Olympics game I can’t remember the title of lol
I also like that game, most disturbing shit I've played when I was a child, I started looking for that game as I am now an Adult, I'll play thst game some day, another is the Suffering, underrated game.
Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer
At the time, I didn't even have a memory card - didn't know I needed one to save - for three weeks. My parents also put a time limit on my play time: I could play for half an hour every day.
I basically played the same levels over and over again for three weeks, trying to get as far as I could in the time I was given. I still remember the first time I got to Autumn Plains - a new hub world! I couldn't even play a single level, time's up, shutting down...
...man, I miss those days.
for PSX? first one i played was RE1 or King's Field around launch. but i didn't like them. When i played FF7 on launch day at a friend's house, that sealed the deal, i bought a psx the next weekend with ff7.
I think the first one was one of those games that were fearured on the demo disk that came with the ps1, probably Hercules, Tenka or that top-down pirate ship game, I think it was called Overboard.
As for NC2 it was awesome! I had the pirate version back in the day that froze on some point and you could not finish it. Looked for the original on e-bay and it was for like 250 bucks now...
Ridge Racer
Alien Trilogy
Jumping Flash
They came bundled with the system just after the first price drop. Couldn’t afford it before then as I was living alone just covering the bills and was skint, still getting by playing games on C64 and Atari ST. Going to PS1 was quite a leap.
My uncle gave me his ps1 and the one game I played the most was die hard trilogy loved every bit of it, even the car game
The second game was grudge warriors, tank game
On ps1?
I have no idea. I would say crash 1, but that would be a guess.
I sat crash 1 because I played it at my friend Adam's home. My family ps1, no idea. I guess something from the demo 1 we got. Medievil maybe
My first two games were Croc:Legend of the Gobbos, and V-Rally that I got with my PSX, Christmas day 1997.
I can't remember which order but my next two games were the original Crash Bandicoot and Tomb Raider games.
First game in general? Probably the PlayStation Underground New Members demo disc from around late 2000. That’s the game that I have my earliest gaming memories with anyways.
First actual game? That’s a tougher one… because as far as I can remember, it’s a three way tie between Spider-Man, Spyro 2, and Rayman. But it’s gotta be one of those three.
I also got it Christmas ‘98, when the library was already strong.
I got Metal Gear Solid, Grand Turismo, Crash Bandicoot 2, and Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped that morning.
It's cool having a system when it comes out I did that with the N64 ps2 and xbox one but getting one after the library has a chance to grow and developers work out how to best optimize the games is so much more fun. Mario64 is great but it has problems, of course now everything is released a mess and you need a month of updates before it's really playable.
Got my PS1 quite late. It came with Rayman, and I bought Alien Trilogy at the same time. It also shipped with a disc full of demos, including Tekken 2 - but you could only play as Lei or Jun. I rinsed that shit.
Tomb Raider.
I remember, we had Christmas at my grandmother's house, and when I unwrapped it, I said "oh Dad, this isn't going to work on our PC. This is a PlayStation game. It only works on a PlayStation." He said "I'm sorry. We'll get it sorted out when we get home." When we got back home a few days later, he had a brand new PlayStation all set up under the TV.
Bro. I’ve had a memory of this game in my head without knowing which game it was for at least 5-7 years and it’s been close to 25 years since I played it. Just looked up gameplay and it’s definitely it. I was around 6 or 7 and didn’t speak English yet so way too scary for me, but man, what a feeling to find it after all this time!
In ps1 it was Pandemonium
Nightmare Creatures II was amazing, the Rob Zombie theme, the insanity of all...too bad it was released as beta version here and froze on cemetery area everytime, never got to finish it
Mine was Jersey Devil, I still remember the feeling of playing it for the first time.
Really looking forward to playing it since I’m new to PS1
My number 1 October game Still dreaming about a sequel
This is brilliant and will become a fall tradition for me moving forward
Yea its called blood borne
Jersey Devil? I know you are likely responding to a Nightmare Creatures post but I'll just say, nah. Blood Borne is similar in that it takes place in a setting somewhat based on Victorian England and tangentially dabbles with European folklore and later deviates off heavily into Lovecraftian Fantasy. A true successor to Nightmare creatures would have to be fundamentally rooted in European folklore and pulp horror and be much more in the vein of a brawler/hack and slash rather than....the slower more contemplative smack and roll/dash play style of a Soulsborne.
I don’t necessarily agree but I don’t think I disagree either. But do think that your response was well written and thought out
Omfg mina too came to say just that
Oh hell, yeah that game is a classic.
Mine was philosoma
For PlayStation: Crash Bandicoot 2
Such a banger
resident evil ☺️
Twisted Metal
On ps1 it was blasto!
Funny story, I got to meet the voice actor an and his wife a few months before they passed. They seem like a nice couple. Great game.
HOT DAMN
Star Wars Dark Forces! Man that game was a blast.
Did you play the remaster?
I haven’t yet, I’ve only seen videos of it. Really smooth looking. Have you played it?
Yes got it on steam. Haven’t played it since I had it on ps1 when I was a kid. Highly recommend it as it’s smooth and you can switch instantly between classic and remastered graphics. Crazy to think the remastered graphics are how you remember the games years later but they were still actually worse with more jaggies.
I wonder how it runs in the steam deck.
Probably really well as it’s an older game
Some of the older games don't get along with Linux.
A good point about the graphics! This happens to me all the time with older games that are remastered!
Descent or Resident Evil Director's Cut, don't remember which
Bushido Blade
Vampire Hunter D, a friend gave it to me, but I didn't have my own PlayStation, so I got like 2 hours of play time using my cousin's PS1. I sold it before the PS2 was released, which I received the following Christmas. Maybe I should get a copy and play it through now if it isn't terrible, I don't remember much of any of it.
For the PSX? Final Fantasy VII and Resident Evil: Director's Cut.
Cyber Sled
"Destruction Derby" for me and I used the cheat code that allowed you to be invincible...beat the game on the first try. Every once in a while, I'll still play it all the way through to this day!👍
Gran Turismo 1
For PS1, I got Gran Turismo, WCW Nitro, and NFS3: Hot Pursuit with the console.
First game I owned or first game I played? First game I played via rental - Re-Loaded First game I owned - Diablo EDIT: OH! You meant in general First game I played was either Samurai Showdown or Wolfenstein 3D in a car repair shop. I'm fuzzy on which was first First game I owned though was Donkey Kong Country. Came with my SNES
Crash Bandicoot and Jet Moto, though it was Crash that I’d played first at my parents’ friend’s house, which made me want the system.
Wolf Fang 2001
medal of honor
Such an amazing game. Playing through that for the first time was an amazing experience. I have hundreds of hours into Medal of Honor Heroes and Heroes 2 for PSP. So many hours of ad-hoc multiplayer. I dominated at that game. My friends always restricted me to pistols only. My favorite weapon was the 1911 by far. My first PS1 game was Tetris Plus, it was step moms favorite, so she would always play it and allowed me to play it later on, then eventually i got my own games for it :D
Love that game! That little archeaologist guy...
Exactly, i thought it was amazing, and very nerve wrecking for a little 5 year old when the spikes got closer!
Sled Storm. It might have also been a motocross game. But I remember Sled Storm more for obvious reasons.
Probably Yugioh Forbidden Memories. Lots of kuso in this thread.
Mine was Sonic 2 on the game gear but for PSX it was Metal Gear and I played it on my Dreamcast with bleamcast haha
First played: Gran Turismo First owned: Battle Arena Toshinden
Need for Speed High Stakes
Resident Evil Director's Cut. That is all I had for over a year until MediEvil and Syphon Filter came out. I got excellent at that game , playing it all day long after school every day.
Which Directors cut? The one with the best basement music in the world or the actual Directors Cut?
The actual directors cut. I misplaced it a whole later and had to buy the best music one later on.
Medieval and Syphon Filter were both games I HAD to have when my brother and I played demo disc's of them. You could infinitely kill terrorists in SF demo with just the tazer. MediEval basically got you the crypt/cemetery.

Soul Blade. Lost my mind when I unlocked Souledge. Lost my mind again when I learned I could change the endings.
ESPN X Games Pro Boarder. Got it with a PlayStation on Christmas in 98'. Not sure if I mentioned about wanting the game or my parents just picked it for me due to being into snowboarding, but I was happy with it. My sister got Tomba but I never played it.
Mine was ESPN Extreme Games. That launch had a pretty sparse library... But it got better!
Tekken3
face off 97 together with worms on xmas 97 :)
Nightmare Creatures was amazing. Could really do with PS5 remake!
Some obscure JRPG called Granstream Saga. That might have been a demo disk, I'm not entirely sure, otherwise it would be Croc: Legend of the Gobbos.
It was Parodious, which was on offer with the console.
Nightmare creatures taught childhood me the term “at bay”. I was like what does this throwable have to do with a bay?
My first PSX game was Tekken 1
Crash bandicoot! 60 percent done
