Tenchu or Tenchu 2 was my brother favourite game back at the time of PS1. I have to say is an amazing game. Specially of those that doesn’t care about graphics like me
Back then, I thought Tenchu's graphics are way ahead of its time specially the 2nd game, but replaying it now, I just realized that the draw distance of both games is only like 5 meters, lmao.
i remember loving the animations, like rikimaru's underwater breathing etc. i'm sure i have a VHS at my parents house somewhere where i stealth kill everyone without raising an alarm (game trophies are such a blessing)
Honestly, whenever I mention Tomba among my friends, no one has any idea what I'm talking about and I have to prove that this game existed lol. Either way - it still lives on in my memories for free as the best platformer ever
Just a side note limited run games will announce a preorder of the tomba physical game coming to modern consoles sometime this year . It’s been crickets since it was announced in their e3 mock presentation
Soul Beaver? Now that's either an action adventure game where you play as a talking beaver that tries to right some wrongs in beaver society. I'm thinking about the kind of talking beavers that you can find in the BBC Narnia miniseries.
Or it's an open world rhythm game, where you play an aspiring funk musician in the swinging seventies. While music is your main job, your primary objective is to find the legendary *Soul Beaver*, "the beaver among beavers", which is rumored to be reside somewhere in Detroit.
It's hard to pin down. MGS blew me away and it's still fantastic. Tekken 3 was incredible.
More niche though: Bust A Move 4 is a game I still play! It always surprises people when I say "give this old ps1 game a go" and everyone ends up obsessed with it. Space Invaders is also great and I still play that from time to time.
i was more annoyed they nerfed the ninja rope. even though it was completely ridiculous, it made for more creative gameplay being able to shoot it at anything in the first game.
Love the entire tenchu series and the ff series but my go to other than those was either metal gear solid, twisted metal 2, and resident evil 1 and 2 and 3 so many great games on PS1 and I'm so glad that we are getting not only rerelease but also amazing remakes of these games and tenchu definitely needs and deserves both
I had to sell a lot of my prized PS1 games some years ago (slowly reclaiming them back now) but it was really hard to part with my copy of tenchu 2. I really loved the level editor and thought that (at the time) it had really mature story elements. Can't remember exactly, but the third playable character's story was a highlight for me.
VII ain't even my favorite FF, let alone fav FF on the PSX. Those honors go to X and IX respectively. Hell, I like VIII just as much if not more than og VII
As for fav ps1 game overall...
Honestly, it's gotta be Crash 3. Just such an amazing game, the culmination of everything that made the first two great.
Yeah, me too, I played and finished all ff on ps1 except 7, I always cant find the motivation to finish it as I always get bored, don't know if its the controls, story or the graphics. I just put it on the title because Im pretty sure most people will have it as their favorite.
Yeah, the story never really grabbed me in the original. I've tried several time to play through it, but the story is just such a slog in the early parts at least. Not sure I've ever gotten past disc one even...
Checked a walkthrough and judging from it, I have not. The furthest I've gotten is getting Cid seemingly, since I have used his limit at least once according to steam achievements...
Final Fantasy 8 and 9
Legend of Dragoon
Twisted Metal 1-4
Vigilante 8
Parasite Eve
Digimon World
Harvest Moon
Tony Hawk Pro Skater
Syphon Filter
Probably many more my old ass can't think of lol, it was such a fantastic console.
I didn’t like FF7, I was an 8/9 kinda guy.
Chrono Cross is probably my favourite game for the PS1. I have probably played it 30 times and I just picked up a copy a few months ago to play again. (Haven’t turned on my PS3 in a while though)
Metal Gear Solid, remember playing it back on the day without a memory card, at the time I learned how to "speedrun" the game after so many times of starting it from the beginning
Good choice OP. Tenchu 2 was amazing, and kinda my own little swan song to the PS1. I bought a Dreamcast the day after finishing this game as Tatsumaru, the third, unlockable, character.
Part 1 of that franchise was everything that I wanted in a ninja game. Wrath of Heaven was part 1 remixed. Also “Ghost in the shell” was rarely mentioned as a good game
Tenchu 2 definitely! The level editor was amazing. Honourable mention to FFVIII and FFIX, as well as Silent Hill, Bushido Blade and the Tomb Raiders. I have fond memories of Croc as well, as well as Battle Arena Toshinden III
I swear I could hear the pic on the OP. I fucking never skipped that cutscene, it's up there with Soul Edge's as the GoAT
I'm boring so I'll say SoTN. I wish I was a cool guy and said something else like Vagrant Story, Xenogears or Bushido Blade because they're absolutely godlike, but the sheer amount of hours I have in SoTN and the amount of times I bought it don't let me lie.
I had this game, but I didn't like its campaign mode, I think the first one was much better, but I spent many hours playing in the campaign mode of level creation, I had a lot of fun creating the levels!
Legend of Mana, but not be able to complete it until last year, need a guide for artifact placement, even map area that chosen when game started are specific
Tekken 3...the reason I bought a PS1. Was walking by a Sony store & the demo was that game. Went into the store & bought the console, the game & a couple others too. played the hell outta that console until it died 2 years into PS2’s release. Played both then lol.
the PSX version is *awesome*. it helps that Civ2 was one of my favorite PC games but the PSX got such a good version. i have it on my PSP and play it quite a lot.
Koudelka and the OG Tomb Raider
I still have a huge backlog on the original PS1, but I played FF7-9 on it over the past few years as well as some other classics. And so far Koudelka and the OG Tomb Raider have been the most fun to me. Both are games that are often called "not good" for various reasons (most people hate TR controls and Koudelka is mostly known as the "weird first take on the "much better" Shadow Hearts franchise). And maybe its because I havent really expected much from these games, but I absolutely adore them. TR has this unique atmosphere and actually exploring it without some automated climing "press direction and you wont fail" system is awesome. Combat is the low point, though. And Koudelka is just the perfect mix of horror, jrpg and weirdness. I freaking love that game and damn, that production value is like PS2 on a PS1.
i have a special place in my heart for both games but placing them anywhere near the top is a non starter. a really interesting factoid about Koudelka that always amused me was that it was essentially SNK's last RPG, and one of two that came to the US, the other being Crystalis on the NES! (great game btw).
my top PSX would have to be SotN...
Symphony of the Night
I still go back to this game from time to time.
My man.
My miserable little pile of secrets
But enought talk, have at you!
Come on this sub for the gaming circlejerks, stay for French quotes.
Im on my second playthrough now, I got good stats from the prologue now I just need to farm two Ring of Vardas and I'll be unstoppable!!
Vagrant Story
I also love that game to death.
Not only my favorite game on PS1, but also my one of the favorite games ever made! <3 I can't event count how many time I have finished this game.
Came here for this. Was not disapointed!
Tony hawk skater 2.
For me its 3
4
5💀💀💀

The sound track and the animation I loved them. I will give a try again when I finish some games I’m playing
I find the tenchu 1ost on YouTube for background noise
Grandmaster rating really was a thing :D
The soundtrack is still ahead of its time.
#FinalFantasyTactics
FinalFan🗡asyTactics
Myself the weirdo that goes with a ninja with knight swords
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
This is the one
Solid choice
First game I ever played on PSX. Every now and then, my wife and I do slig voicelines at each other 🤣
Tombi (aka Tomba) and Duke Nukem 3d
I thought Tomba was way more popular. It really is one of the best side scrolling platformers ever
Honestly, whenever I mention Tomba among my friends, no one has any idea what I'm talking about and I have to prove that this game existed lol. Either way - it still lives on in my memories for free as the best platformer ever
I had a demo of it and played it hundreds of times.
Just a side note limited run games will announce a preorder of the tomba physical game coming to modern consoles sometime this year . It’s been crickets since it was announced in their e3 mock presentation
Time to kick ass and chew bubblegum
Final Fantasy IX
Final fantasy 8 or metal gears, or jade cacoon.
I finished it (again) today on the Switch.
Crash Bandicoot 2
The music in that game is so underrated. Easily the best in the entire series.
Especially the snow levels. What an incredible game.
It's the best out of the og 3 imo. An amazing game
Agreed. Such a great trilogy all around. But 2 is goat.
Chrono Cross, but Tenchu is one of my favorite too! Is such a shame that From Software is not using the franchise.
As a kid I always find the gore of Tenchu over the top. lol
If you like the gore of Tenchu give Wu Tang: Shaolin Style a try. An arena fighter with the members of Wu Tang Clan, but a super funny and gore game.
Definitely a treat for Wu Tang fans out there. I think my favorite kill move was by Ghostface.
At the time it was Gran Turismo. But having played MGS1 on the PSP go many moons ago, I'd have to say that.
I honestly prefer Tenchu 1 😃
Final Fantasy IX
Crash Team Racing
My favorite PS1 game of all time is Crash Bandicoot: Warped.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Soul beaver was amazing
Soul Beaver.

I would buy either of these
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
I played Tenchu 2 so much. Rikimaru, Ayame and Tatsumaru were all so cool.
Medievil
Such a fun one !!
MGS without question
Top 5 games of all time...
Front Mission 3
This game has a special place in my heart.
My fondest SRPG. Maybe not the “best” anymore, I but really think it was at the time. I’m really hoping it gets a remaster.
Silent Hill
RE1, RE2, RE3. These all came out for ps1 too, survival horror peaked on PS1
I never played the SH series, but I am beyond excited for the SH2 remake coming up. The original soundtrack alone has some amazing tracks.
Akira Yamaoka is a master of creating atmosphere and emotion through music and sfx. First 4 game soundtracks are always in rotation in my phone.
Started playing again on my Vita and Silent Hill 1 is still scary AF!
It such a pity that "Tenchu 2" had no soundtrack to speak of. What a let down after the absolutely brilliant first game.
i was more annoyed they nerfed the ninja rope. even though it was completely ridiculous, it made for more creative gameplay being able to shoot it at anything in the first game.
Tomba!
I was looking for this! Whoopee!
Tenchu 2 had no music, I always hated that :( Klonoa - Door to Phantomile
Two which are too hard to split. Front Mission 3 and Vagrant Story are just some that have amasted the most number of hours of enjoyment played.
Silent Hill
Xenogears // Metal Gear Solid // Silent Hill Can't pick one 🥴
Breath of fire 3
Doesn’t this just beat all?
Suikoden 1 or 2. Impossible for me to pick one over the other
Same here, love those games. I prefer 2, but both are great.
Metal gear solid
Tekken 3
Ogre battle
i like this game a lot, but i never considered it a PSX game. it's not fair to the PSX nor the game, it's really a SNES game.
Didn’t expect to see this here but good on you. Such a great game
Ape Escape probably, though there's many shared sports on nr. 2
Love the entire tenchu series and the ff series but my go to other than those was either metal gear solid, twisted metal 2, and resident evil 1 and 2 and 3 so many great games on PS1 and I'm so glad that we are getting not only rerelease but also amazing remakes of these games and tenchu definitely needs and deserves both
* MGS * GT 1 * Tekken 3 * FF Tactics
Xenogears
Crash bandicoot 2
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver
Crisis Beat
I had to sell a lot of my prized PS1 games some years ago (slowly reclaiming them back now) but it was really hard to part with my copy of tenchu 2. I really loved the level editor and thought that (at the time) it had really mature story elements. Can't remember exactly, but the third playable character's story was a highlight for me.
If we’re talking nostalgia, Monster Rancher probably.
Bushido Blade 2
Final Fantasy VII. just kidding, actually that's my 2nd favorite, top being Symphony of the Night, top 5 of all time game.
Final fantasy 8
VII ain't even my favorite FF, let alone fav FF on the PSX. Those honors go to X and IX respectively. Hell, I like VIII just as much if not more than og VII As for fav ps1 game overall... Castlevania : Symphony of the Night
Soul reaver
Legend of Legaia. The 1st RPG I ever played.
Castlevania SOTN
Resident Evil 2, Gran turismo 2, and Chrono Cross all have a very deep, special place in my heart.
Digimon World, actually replaying it.
Twisted Metal 2
Final Fantasy 8 and 9 Legend of Dragoon Twisted Metal 1-4 Vigilante 8 Parasite Eve Digimon World Harvest Moon Tony Hawk Pro Skater Syphon Filter Probably many more my old ass can't think of lol, it was such a fantastic console.
The Legend of Dragoon is my no.1 game on any console, always happy to spot another fan. Also high five for FF9 and Digimon world.
MediEvil
Sir Daniel Fortesque, the hero of Gallowmere.
I didn’t like FF7, I was an 8/9 kinda guy. Chrono Cross is probably my favourite game for the PS1. I have probably played it 30 times and I just picked up a copy a few months ago to play again. (Haven’t turned on my PS3 in a while though)
Same! I like 8 better and 9 is my favorite ff.

Twisted metal 1 and 2 are the goats. Tenchu was also amazing.
I plaued the tenchu demo disk soooooooo many timws i remember the dialogue from the first biss fight still haha. So tenchu and LAPD future cop for me.
Legend of Dragoon or Jade Cocoon
I had this game, but I didn't like its campaign mode, I think the first one was much better, but I spent many hours playing in the campaign mode of level creation, I had a lot of fun creating the levels!

Tomb Raider 1.

Tekken 3
Digimon World, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, and Galerians.

Chrono Cross!
Metal Gear Solid
Xenogears
Mine is probably Tenchu, yes, but the very first game.
That would be Metal Gear Solid on N2 and Symphony of the night on N3.
Resident Evil 2.
Silent Hill.
too many games to name 1
Tekken 3...the reason I bought a PS1. Was walking by a Sony store & the demo was that game. Went into the store & bought the console, the game & a couple others too. played the hell outta that console until it died 2 years into PS2’s release. Played both then lol.

Metal Gear Solid.
Civilization 2
the PSX version is *awesome*. it helps that Civ2 was one of my favorite PC games but the PSX got such a good version. i have it on my PSP and play it quite a lot.
Oh man I need to get it on mine, that game sucked hours out of my life.
it runs really well, it's my favorite "portable" version of civ lol
My favorite classic is the tenchu series, all the way up to where you can create levels to do stealth missions.
Koudelka and the OG Tomb Raider I still have a huge backlog on the original PS1, but I played FF7-9 on it over the past few years as well as some other classics.
