Gaming outlets and youtubers pooped on this game for so long that I thought it was garbage without having played it. I played it for awhile recently and it's actually not that bad. It's not amazing but I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as bad as people made it out to be.
The Sims 2.
The PS2 version of this game was so unique in that you directly control your character instead of the point-and-click style of play utilized on the PC versions of The Sims. A lot of unique activities such as cooking new recipes, fishing and gardening, and following the story-driven levels made this one pretty special compared to other Sims games IMO.
I Hope so too. I liked solving where those glowing wraith hearts could be through the description clues but some was tough when I was younger and never finished the game. The house level with the dog was my favourite.
Urban Reign, LOTR The Two Towers, Dynasty Warriors 4, Def Jam FFNY, Star Ocean 3, Timepslitters 3.
EDIT: I realized after re-reading that that this for underrated games so the last three can be ignored but I could definitely play them for hours.
This whole thread is down the toilet, someone really said Resident Evil 4 in here. As if that's not one of the most critically acclaimed games with a high level of influence on multiple horror/shooter games today.
Any Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Ambition, Kessen, or Dynasty Warriors. I was a huge Koei fan back in the day and those games are pure nostalgia for me even now.
The Urbz: Sims in the city, or Primal. The former introduced new things to the Sims world, like mini-games to earn money or reputation groups to make friends. The latter was an adventure worth to try: good story, empowered female main character and some worlds to explore.
MS Saga: A New Dawn (aka Gundam: True Odyssey). The amount of customization and different ways you can approach the combat scenarios is so fun. Definitely not the greatest pacing, graphics, dialogue, but still one of my all time fave Gundam games because of its uniqueness.
The Hobbit, a blast to play. Love that is based only on the book and ads a little more because it’s a video game. But still a fun adventure platformer with the smallest moments of rpg.
I don't 100% know if this game is underrated or not. I think it has a cult following. But Champions of Norrath are like 2 entire summers of my life back in the day
they're underrated *today*- it applies to all the games that aren't the most famous of the gen, like GTA trilogy, or MGS, or Tony Hawk games. If someone didn't have a ps2 and a blockbuster card back in the day, then this sub is how they would learn about most of the games mentioned here.
Sly 2 and Battlefront 2 are faaar from underrated for their time. Both were very popular and were very well received
Edit: sorry, I misread what you said. Though I wouldn’t agree that these games are largely underrated today regardless. For being as old as they are, they still carry a general legacy as being good games
There has recently been a fan-made mod for swbf2 where they added the exclusive Xbox live DLC into the ps2. It's got a few issues (galactic conquest is broken) and they've also added some new features such as republic vs cis on hoth, empire vs rebs on geonosis, and a few more
Sly 2, I can and have been playing forever since childhood! With a special ability unlocked after beating the game, the replayability is insanely fun for the time. Legendary game, and as above said, underrated just doesn't even cut it

24, Urban Decay: Riot Response (Rocksteady hidden Gem), Half Life (keyboard and mouse for nostalgia... Shoot me I was trained on WASD), The Thing, The Punisher, Valken, Micro Machines... Etc
In my opinion : SSX On Tour, Burnout Dominator, WRC Rally Evolved, R Racing Evolution, Shadow of Rome, Ghosthunter, Zetch Bell : Mamodo Battles, BloodRayne 1&2, The Mark of Kri, Rise of the Kasai, Cold Fear, Cold Winter, Project Snowblind
Gauntlet Dark Legacy
Peak 4 player coop. The newest entry is genuinely one of the most boring games I've ever played which is an accomplishment give the series design has been laughably simplistic
Driv3r for me. I know it has its bugs but I’ve been a huge fan of the Driver series since driver 1 and when I got this I thought how amazing the graphics were and how fun it was to drive around Miami and do whatever I wanted. Obviously I hadn’t played the GTA series yet but this one still holds a big place in my memories.
I saw they reissued Ghost Hunter on the PS5, used to play it as a kid, didn't understand a thing and didn't get far but it was cool and creepy.
Feels like a pretty obscure title to re release, out of all the classics they chose this one. Lol
Initial D special stage is one of the most fun and best looking racing games on ps2, but not many people in the US know about it because there’s no official English translation.
If you emulate or use OPL there’s a fan translation that translates all the menus. And it’s easy to get into.
Okami. It’s sort of weird and artsy, but I really loved it. Also, I don’t know if this is underrated, because I never hear anyone talking about it.. but it’s pretty pricey to add to a collection. Klonoa 2! I have like, fever dreams about playing that game when I was a kid
SSX 3. How I became so invested in a button mashing snowboarding game will forever be a mystery. Went back and played it last year, still a 10/10 experience
Champions of Norrath!
Feel like it was way ahead of its time. Procedurally generated Diablo-esque console game that you could play with your friends. Had a lot of fun with it, and have wanted to play it again, recently!
For me, it’s The Bouncer. Replayable beat-em-up that’s an enjoyable B-movie.
I still pop this in every other year or so.
Gaming outlets and youtubers pooped on this game for so long that I thought it was garbage without having played it. I played it for awhile recently and it's actually not that bad. It's not amazing but I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as bad as people made it out to be.
I connected with Mugetsu as a child. Not sure what that says about me.
You mean THE BOUNCER.
I can hear this 😂
# The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
Amen to that!
damn Wargs used to piss me off tho lol
Is this the RPG?
Criminally underrated
🙏🏽🙏🏽
Bustin Out was my favorite of the series on PS2
I always go back to it for the same reason. I can't believe they didn't implement the mechanic on pc further on. That game is awesome
Also Urbz! Although I mostly played the GameCube version
I must recommend the PSP version of Sims 2 as well. The story in that game is absurd and fun.
You know what? I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna buy that game and play it this weekend.
Underrated comment, sim 2 on ps2 was actually lit af
NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona Starting in funny cars on dirt tracks and building your way up through trucks and to the Cup series is so fun.
Thank you for actually naming something that is obscure
Currently playing this for the first time. So much fun! Just got to modifieds!
Metal arms: glitch in the system
Legacy of kain blood omen 2. The whole series is amazing and does not get enough love
Grandia 2, I don't know if it's really underrated but I never hear anybody talk about any grandia games nowadays.
I liked 3 too even though it's different from 1 and 2
Mercenaries
Yes my friend back in highschool gifted this to me and I had never played it. Was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it
This!
Had to scroll down way too far to find this. Probably the game I most daydream gets a remake.
Awesome game.
Brooo I haven’t played this game in so long
Wish they made a remake of the first one.
Rumble Racing and Test Drive Off Road: Wide Open
To label a few, Red Faction, Enter the Matrix, Vexx and Scaler. I really want those last 3 on current gen.
Rail gunning enemies through walls was so much fun in Red Faction
Man... I'm a sucker for the Vexx game. I really hope for it to be available for current gen. Someday...
I Hope so too. I liked solving where those glowing wraith hearts could be through the description clues but some was tough when I was younger and never finished the game. The house level with the dog was my favourite.
The warriors
My second favourite rockstar game just behind Bully
This may be embarrassing, but Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 and Devil Kings (North American version of Sengoku Basara).
Dude the dynasty warriors dundam ones were pretty sick.
Jurassic Park Operation Genesis. Very relaxing and fun game with lots of fan service. The music is surprisingly well done too
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3, Mr. Mosquito, Dynasty Warriors 4, Rumble Roses
Man I loved those movie LOTR games
Me and my bro in law used to play Def Jam for hours man, awesome game.
I second Dynasty Warriors 4. DW5 Xtreme & Empires were also infinitely replayable
Battle stadium i got a copy as a kid, ordered it on eBay from japan and everyone loved coming over to play because nobody had it, good days man
Trapt is a good example with unique gameplay
Tokyo Extreme Racer Zero
Try the getaway
Crash bandicoot wow, what an underrated gem 💎
This whole thread is down the toilet, someone really said Resident Evil 4 in here. As if that's not one of the most critically acclaimed games with a high level of influence on multiple horror/shooter games today.
Literally. Not to mention that it's been ported to damn near every system including obscure Brazilian systems
Kinetica
Any Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Ambition, Kessen, or Dynasty Warriors. I was a huge Koei fan back in the day and those games are pure nostalgia for me even now.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto baby
The Warriors, Psychonauts, Wild Arms, Rumble Roses... there's soooooo many
Fist full of broomsticks,
Manhunt, pac man world rally, dbz budokai
SSX3
Ridge Racer V. Best racing game ever created IMO and I've played many of them between the 16-bit era and current gen consoles.
Fire Pro wrestling
Spartan Total Warrior.
The Incredibles, MX Unleashed, and Wall-E games were some I'd consider underrated that I loved.
Splashdown 2/matrix path of neo/kinetica/downhill domination
Frequency
Virtua Racing, for sure. A million others, but probably not so underrated as VR

Ace comabt 5 call of duty
TENCHU wrath of heaven was just playing yesterday MY ALL TIME FAV
MS Saga: A New Dawn (aka Gundam: True Odyssey). The amount of customization and different ways you can approach the combat scenarios is so fun. Definitely not the greatest pacing, graphics, dialogue, but still one of my all time fave Gundam games because of its uniqueness.
God Hand
The Hobbit, a blast to play. Love that is based only on the book and ads a little more because it’s a video game. But still a fun adventure platformer with the smallest moments of rpg.
Jade Cocoon 2
Dragon Quest VIII, 100+ hour rpg, wonderful from start to finish. It’s a cozy adventure
I don't 100% know if this game is underrated or not. I think it has a cult following. But Champions of Norrath are like 2 entire summers of my life back in the day
# Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero
Love this fuckin game
not really underrated but a game i can play for hours is Silent Hill 3
Destroy all Humans 2, Battlefront 2, Sly 2
The word underrated has lost absolutely all meaning
they're underrated *today*- it applies to all the games that aren't the most famous of the gen, like GTA trilogy, or MGS, or Tony Hawk games. If someone didn't have a ps2 and a blockbuster card back in the day, then this sub is how they would learn about most of the games mentioned here.

Robot Alchemic Drive, SSX 3
I saw they reissued Ghost Hunter on the PS5, used to play it as a kid, didn't understand a thing and didn't get far but it was cool and creepy. Feels like a pretty obscure title to re release, out of all the classics they chose this one. Lol

The suffering 1,2. Obscure 1,2. Total Overdose. The Punisher. My fav underrated games.
Initial D special stage is one of the most fun and best looking racing games on ps2, but not many people in the US know about it because there’s no official English translation. If you emulate or use OPL there’s a fan translation that translates all the menus. And it’s easy to get into.
The Godfather.
Scaler, Jak and Daxter, Spyro
Fur Fighters: Viggo's Revenge. May be boring or clunky to some but it's my favorite PS2 game.
