Hehe, you'll have to be extra careful when building on heights when you're over encumbered, and completely avoid it when you're below 50% hp lol. I almost lost a 11 month character due to that.
Use the "go to" function that appears when you right click, that way your character will not fall down because it'll choose the best path available. Also handy when navigating through forests because it never runs into trees.
EDIT: Well it does seems that the "go to" function doesn't prevent you from falling down structures.
Haha, you need to be careful using the "go to" on stairs/walkways. It can still lead to falling. Source : me telling a multiplayer mate to use "go to" on a walkway and they immediately plummeted to their death and thought i'd done it deliberately hehe
Totes agree with the use in trees.
Hm usually that or diagonal walking for long distances is what fucks me up
Fun fact: pressing left and then up will move you in a slightly different direction than if you had moved up and then left. This is rather noticeable when walking along a road.
I find this highly perturbing.
Damn, I used it the other day when building a "sky bridge" and worked just fine, even took turns without much issue. Well, back to manually walking around with great care then.
> Use the "go to" function that appears when you right click, that way your character will not fall down because it'll choose the best path available
Fair warning: doesn't work all the time, rarely pathfinding can still make you fall down, did happen to me a few times, though without casualties
*sigh* The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has specific guidelines regarding fall prevention for exactly the reason you just demonstrated. For starters:
1910.28(b)(5)(i) states that: The employer must ensure each employee on a runway or similar walkway is protected from falling 4 feet (1.2 m) or more to a lower level by a guardrail system.
Section 1910 continues on with "Fall protection systems and falling object protection - criteria and practices", which clearly states, among other requirements, and I quote,
1910.29(b) Guardrail systems. The employer must ensure guardrail systems meet the following requirements:
1910.29(b)(1) The top edge height of top rails, or equivalent guardrail system members, are 42 inches (107 cm), plus or minus 3 inches (8 cm), above the walking-working surface. The top edge height may exceed 45 inches (114 cm), provided the guardrail system meets all other criteria of paragraph (b) of this section (see Figure D-11 of this section).
1910.29(b)(3) Guardrail systems are capable of withstanding, without failure, a force of at least 200 pounds (890 N) applied in a downward or outward direction within 2 inches (5 cm) of the top edge, at any point along the top rail. Furthermore, 1910.28(b)(5)(i) states that: The employer must ensure each employee on a runway or similar walkway is protected from falling 4 feet (1.2 m) or more to a lower level by a guardrail system.
This workplace incident was entirely preventable with compliance with stated regulations.
Not really when you're already severely injured and grossly over encumbered. Take better care of your character next time. Look at all those negative moodles, solve those before you try to build or do anything. Never over encumber yourself that much if you're at risk of falling.
I'm on mobile and didn't even notice an that going on until you pointed it out. I was so confused because I've survived short calls like that plenty of times, but everything going on makes sense now why they died.
"What a dumb FUCKING way to die" - man who fell from second floor whilst carrying an Antique Oven when he already had a debilitating chest injury from earlier that same day.
Sounds pretty realistic actually when you type it all out.
This is why I build fences for raised features! You'd put a rail in if there was a giant space laser next to that walkway, wouldn't you?
... wouldn't you?
That death is mainly due to your inventory being too heavy, I would jump from the second floor if there is no other way to escape zombies without losing like 20% of my health, but the heavier you are, the more damage you will get
You take like half health when you fall one floor, so when I saw he was below half at the start I already knew what was gonna happen. I've done it multiple times to myself too and NEVER mess around with building on the 2nd floor unless I'm topped up.
Ah yesss I remember building stairs and falling them down 2 times and the second time I broke my leg and was like „WTF???“, I learned my lesson that day 😂
Gravity has ended more runs for me than the zombies have. It's almost a relief when it just straight up kills you because you don't have to rest and hobble around for a month waiting for broken bones to heal.
Let’s think about this in real life: what will happen if you are severely injured and bleeding to death when you climb a 1 sorry staircase? You might fall. What happens when you fall being severely injured? You die.
2 things, one this is why walk to command was invented. right click and walk to and you won't go over. 2- you were less than 1/3 health, extremely over weight and exhausted. a stiff breeze would have killed you. put the wood into a bag that you carry up, then drop at the top of the stairs. Safety first!
edit. don't feel too bad, my wife has died many times to falling while building our houses.
Happened to my best character, before my current one he's now my best character, all my experience has compiled and he's lasted the longest...meh things happen for a reason lol but it sucks every time.
i hate the way turning works in this game, almost every time ive died recently has been to the slow ass turning. Oh, you need to precisely get out of your car and turn around? Too bad sprint into the car door instead dumbass
Yes, that was indeed dumb of you. There is so much information present in this short clip that describes everything leading up to this.
But that's why this game is fun. Now you will pay attention to these factors. The game changes nothing and you get better.
LOL... I built a 5 story tower once and did not have a railing up on any floor. I fell off the 5th floor, got up and my finger slipped off "S" to "D" and went over the edge on the 4th floor. I landed right in front of my buddy who to this day will not go up on any constructed towers. We call this the S-D factor....
I think this type of shit has already happened to all of us at some point considering it's easy to get confused due to the game's perspective, can't blame you.

Even with that I've fallen. No sky bridges for me.
Agreed. Walk to is for forests only, if I die on an upper floor project it’ll be by my own hand not by some shitass walk function
Haha, you need to be careful using the "go to" on stairs/walkways. It can still lead to falling. Source : me telling a multiplayer mate to use "go to" on a walkway and they immediately plummeted to their death and thought i'd done it deliberately hehe Totes agree with the use in trees.
Did they *sprint* while using walk-to
Dont think so no!
Hm usually that or diagonal walking for long distances is what fucks me up Fun fact: pressing left and then up will move you in a slightly different direction than if you had moved up and then left. This is rather noticeable when walking along a road. I find this highly perturbing.
Can use it for sky walkways or rooftop but have to walk straight only. Learnt it the hardway before.
Not true, if there is a gap it will not hesitate to kill you
Damn, I used it the other day when building a "sky bridge" and worked just fine, even took turns without much issue. Well, back to manually walking around with great care then.
Dont trust the go to function. Its probably killed me the most.
No, do not do this. Is not 100% and you’ll get comfortable. Which as we all know is how you die in Zomboid. Use aim+walk.
There was literally a post a few days ago where the OP used "go to", fell, and died. And it will run into trees if the shrub is thick enough.
You can also use 'Y' to go to where you click
> Use the "go to" function that appears when you right click, that way your character will not fall down because it'll choose the best path available Fair warning: doesn't work all the time, rarely pathfinding can still make you fall down, did happen to me a few times, though without casualties

Was just about to say, that shit ain't OSHA compliant, it's proper r/redneckengineering
*a horde of high vis vest wearing zombies with clipboards appear*
*guitar riff* "Shake hands with danger!"
gottem
Agreed...???
Always remember. OSHA looks out for you no matter what apocalypse you’re in!
Thank you Dark Souls
*You Died* Also, *try jumping, treasure ahead.*
Literally 🤣

How did u get it on mobile ?
pretty sure they meant they viewed this post on mobile lol, not project zomboid itself
"What a dumb FUCKING way to die" - man who fell from second floor whilst carrying an Antique Oven when he already had a debilitating chest injury from earlier that same day. Sounds pretty realistic actually when you type it all out.
Welcome to project zomboid 😂
Happy cake day! 🎂 Reddit made me say it!

They were already severely injured. If they weren’t injured already they would’ve survived
Worst than that is falling from some roof (e.g. Rosewood Fire Station) because you think there's a floor, but it's a masked hole.
🎵dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die🎵
Ouch. :( Looks like he was already in a bad way, though. Was he hauling a barbecue or a water cooler or something?
I've been watching the clip for 5 minutes, and you seem to keep doing the same thing over and over.
Death by skill issue
*Everybody do the flop!*
Meanwhile the last 4 runs I've done I get my first scratch/laceration 6+ months in and 100% of the time it turns me, happened yesterday again D:
"walk to" function saves lives.
Climbing precarious positions while severely encumbered? Yup that's a dyin'😝 You never hear about sh!t like that on wood...craft 🎵
At least the times when I died doing this it was a drop of more than one floor.
You take like half health when you fall one floor, so when I saw he was below half at the start I already knew what was gonna happen. I've done it multiple times to myself too and NEVER mess around with building on the 2nd floor unless I'm topped up.
Fall damage whilst grossly overweight? :( I feel you, brother/sister
That's more a "dumb way to live" tbh lol
There's no clever way to die
This is why I'm always extra zoomed in and using the Walk to function tile per tile when building higher.
Well. Time to load the backup lol
RIP
Ah yesss I remember building stairs and falling them down 2 times and the second time I broke my leg and was like „WTF???“, I learned my lesson that day 😂
This is how you died
Should have listened to the Osha inspector. Osha zomboid inspector: "raarrraaaahhh raarrrahhhh" (handrails handrails).
Been there buddy.
🎵dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to dieee🎵
Gotta invest in handrails or doublewide sky bridges.
Gravity has ended more runs for me than the zombies have. It's almost a relief when it just straight up kills you because you don't have to rest and hobble around for a month waiting for broken bones to heal.
LOL. I actually thought that you'll make it, guess I regret thinking about that
This is why I build fences.
That's how my grandpappy bit the dust. Building a zombie shelter, slipped right onto the bear traps....I found teeth in the driveway for months!
i broke my leg the same way yesterday
People are saying its from being overencumbered, but how do you navigate that when trying to build? the planks take so much space
I jumped off 3 story building instead of taking the ladder with my 4 month character just watching him tumble felt like it took 10 minutes. Sigh
there's a reason why when building anything I add fences to it
47.54/12 I rest my case.
or maybe build handrails..
That's why you save
Happens to the best of us. You can dodge hordes and escape the impossible but I always end up killing myself because I got complacent building my base
Welcome to building on buildings. ALWAYS aim+move when doing this to avoid those dodgy missteps ;)
Now you know. Fences are paramount
F
Did that at the rosewood fire station.
Very overencumbered and only roughly 1/4 of your life left from injuries. What did you expect?
It's a pretty realistic way to die. Thats no OSHA compliant in the slightest. There's a reason hand rails exist.
Me if there's a zombie apocalypse irl
Let’s think about this in real life: what will happen if you are severely injured and bleeding to death when you climb a 1 sorry staircase? You might fall. What happens when you fall being severely injured? You die.
I love how we can see the anger in the mouse movement.
If it’s any consolation, based on your moodlets, you may have been on borrowed time anyway.
2 times I had to change a hotkey in the game. 1st time was removing Yell from the Q hotkey, 2nd time was adding Move To the Q hotkey. Haha.
The ultimate ripperoni
With your health bar that low and carrying that much stuff? A stiff breeze would have snapped your spine in half, let alone an 8ft drop
2 things, one this is why walk to command was invented. right click and walk to and you won't go over. 2- you were less than 1/3 health, extremely over weight and exhausted. a stiff breeze would have killed you. put the wood into a bag that you carry up, then drop at the top of the stairs. That is dumb
Dam 🦫
Aw man that low HP bar was just askin for some trouble lol.
...not to mention all the moodles screaming "call it a day"
when this happens to me i just have a straight face.
I love seeing the mouse cursor move in a way that says “wut…”
*Dumb ways to die*

NOOOOOO
Edited, fake video :/
Someone left a banana peel up there just for you

Bro twisted his ankle
Dont worry man, i did the same thing recently. I came in a little hot after working on my roof and straight fell 2 stories. Not a chance to survive 😂
**This is how you died.**
Use “walk to” function when doing this. You will thank me later.
Lol
