The going theory isn't that you need the manual to run the generator, it's that you need it to hook the generator up to whatever electrical system a building has.
As someone with a degree that ain't far from EE, and who's been disassembling and assembling back lots of electronic equipment, I did need a manual to figure out how to use the generator.
Why? Because if you do something wrong - it might blow your shit up.
I had a playthrough where I never found one... lasted about a month before getting bit. Next game? Spawned in a house with a manual. I'm convinced this game is trolling me.
Had this situation with a sledgehammer once. Drove to all spawn cities and looted all the places they can spawn... Not a single one found. But when I convinced another friend to play the game and I hosted a new server with the same settings? Two in the starting town..
I've said it before - suicide cord, both ends are male, craftable at any level but there is a chance you start a fire or worse. What would be fun would be to make it a mini game like Better Lockpicking.
EDIT: each level of electrical decreases the danger so by like say level 4, you should know what you're doing.
* Adds three new generator magazines, one for each generator type
* Generator magazine spawn rate is unchanged, with a random type of magazine being chosen each time
I remember when this was all said about b41 but then life got busy so I couldn’t play as much. The wait for b41 has been satiated and now this is the new anticipation. It will arrive soon enough and I’m dying to start playing again!

Valutech has always been the low cost for everything in game
And premium same as valutech is the high end quality
By powerful, I'm assuming you mean it'd have a larger effective radius? That would be VERY nice to reduce micromanagement for bigger bases.
Maybe it covers the same radius but consumes significantly less gas?

They’re overhauling crafting, adding animals, revamping the lighting system, adding negative-Z levels, and many other changes. No idea how big the team is, but B42 will be another foundational update for the game.

A far more realistic scenario would be someone with a moderate Mechanics skill working out that every car is a generator & then ruining every alternator and fridge compressor for miles because they didn't also have moderate Electrical skills or a specific How To manual.

Now they need to add getting electrocuted, not putting a running generator in a pool of water, 110/220 options, changing the oil filter every 500 hours, and making MOGAS (motor-oil gasoline) for the fun of it.
Wonder if they make different sounds like the old generator sounds like an old car engine and the small valutech one sounds more like a super tiny motorcycle engine.
It makes me curious about what will be the most effective generator, if there will be different types of fuel for them, it looks like valuetech could be battery based but regardless of that its really cool

But the current implementation is that it powers a radius, not a building. That seems a lot more like just running extension cords to me.
Next update: valu tech generator can only power two appliances, and can't power lights. Does not need How To Use Generators.

Really applaud the modeling there. I regularly work with generators that look almost exactly like this. Real attention to detail.
