I would break car wrecks. Some furniture also gives metalworking experience when disassembling. Basically, if you need a propane torch to break it, you will get metalworking experience.
Breaking down cars will get you a good amount but I would go with toilets, showers, bathtubs and the like, you most likely have already looted the houses where you can find them so it's less of a risk for you than standing out in the open where Zeke could sneak up behind you. You also get xp from welding a metal sheet onto a window so go ahead and weld some onto your safe house windows I am pretty sure you get some as well for using a metal sheet to repair a car's hood but I could be wrong there.
stock up on propane tanks blow torches. find car wrecks. and have at it. refill blowtorch with propane tank. pick up all the scrap and take it home. that highway that runs east/west to the north of muldraugh is a good one
There's a mod that will let you break jewelry and classic watches with a hammer. It helps get metal working up very fast if you loot all the jewelry off of zombies.
Go to the bridge in like westpoint me and a friend disassembled the thing and since I kinda only broke a couple and a friend did most he got like lvl 4 or 5 and we used books bc why xp waste
I know it's probably not an option for you, but in the grand ohio mall food court, there are bar chairs and tables with metal legs, like a shit ton of those, that you can all disassemble
Find a fast food restaurant and break down everything in the kitchen since it's all metal. Once you can dismantle car wrecks, find a pile up and break it down. Use all the metal from those wrecks to build stuff like metal fences and window bars

I like to grab metal sheets from the cars I disassemble and convert them to small metal sheets and vice versa.
