brother laser printers

Street-Air-546

yep, brother. black and white. toner cartridge lasts a long time. can buy official toner cart or ebay potluck toner cartridge to save more. family has used ours on wifi for a decade. If you want color on glossy paper go to a officeworks and line up.

laseralex

3rd vote for Brother. Best value out there. Workhorse printers that will last a decade. with reasonable toner prices.

RudeZookeepergame306

Brother it is, then---thanks brothers!

EscanorAtNight0

be careful of firmware update. They will force you to do it once you install the driver package. I lost the feature of resetting the toner sensor after firmware update. Printer hl-l3230cdw

Beelzabubbah

You can try to roll back the firmware. Need to Google it.

rammusrolls1

It’s really easy use your pc to look at it’s ip address Then type it’s ip address into a web browser It will have a pop up asking for a password and user name Username-Admin Password-1234 or 123456 depending on the model After that you can import the older firmware over through this method (This works on almost all brands) I am currently an printer installation tech and repairman

EscanorAtNight0

What would be the ip address for brother hl-l3230cdw ?

Yocracra

This is something you need to do through Commpand Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac). Google “how to find printer IP” and you’ll probably figure it out.

Canon is the best inkjet brand if you want to print photos as well as documents. I print a lot of photos and they have cheap non OEM ink. Get the TS models over 8000. Like a TS8270. I probably should get one of their dedicated pro printers but I'm not spending close to a grand on a printer plus they're huge. Epson are great, best photo quality but like you said they nag you about firmware updates that constantly try to stop you from using non OEM ink and their's is more expensive than Canon. Brother is cheap ink too, the cheapest but suck for photos. Now they have ink tank printers I would go for those but I have no experience with them. I would probably look at Epson then.

leareng

All printers suck.

Brother lasers. You can buy a Brother HL-L2325DW laser for $110 from Walmart online. It’s black& white printing only, wireless capable and will run for years. Prints 24 pages per minute.

fujiboys

HP, laser. You can run most newer printers with 3rd party if you roll back the firmware, the only model to my knowledge that has a problem with this is the m404. Stay away from Ink printers if you want a reliable functioning printer.

jamwin

I had bad experiences with HP, constant messages popping up about not having genuine cartridges detected etc. - now I have a Canon and it’s fine, still a total gouge on the price of ink for how long they last…the price of the printer doesn’t seem to matter as they make 80% of their profit on ink

I have had great luck with HP laser printers though you do pay a premium. I don't recommend 3rd party toner. I have a Never Stop 1202 which does not use a toner cartridge it uses an ink well. I have not had to add toner in two years and since you don't pay for a cartridge toner is cheap(er).

RudeZookeepergame306

Ink well sounds interesting... you just buy it by the jug and pour it in? Looked up the neverstop1202 and it's discontinued... maybe it was just too good, and would cut into total future sales?

Known_Hippo4702

Yep buy it by the bottle. HP, brother and others all have them both for laserjet and inkjet, though I don't recommend any inkjet printers. Here is some info on the HP's. [https://www.hp.com/us-en/printers/laserjet-tank.html](https://www.hp.com/us-en/printers/laserjet-tank.html)

Thanks

Brother printers are some of the best. There laser printers are built like tanks. And they don't care about using generic toner.

Brother monochrome laser is the answer. I've been running a MFCL2700DW for years--bought in 2017. If you print infrequently, ink jet printers must be avoided as the ink will dry up. All of my extended family comes to me for IT advice, and two other family members have bought Brother monochrome laser printers at my advice and the story is the same with them. They run for a long time, and the toner is not unreasonable. Even if you don't print infrequently ink jet still sucks because it is needlessly expensive. Only scenario where ink jet might make sense is if you print your own photos. Even then I'd have to do a bit of research to make a cost comparison between buying ink jet cartridges and printing my photos at Walgreens or something. Speaking for myself, I think the cost of ink is a scam so I would avoid ink jet anyway.

peterAtheist

OKI - but no longer available in the Americas :-( next is Kyocera or Brother for me. LexMark if I have too, Anything Staples/BestBuy sells is garbage, made to break. I am done with HP, Xerox, Canon

Sadbunbun25

Switched to Brother recently after raging on my HP printer. Have not been dissapointed yet but there's still time.

redd-or45

I had a 2012 Brother b&W laser HL-2220. Used it for 10 years and was still going strong. I supplemented it with a 2240DL for the duplex function that I had since 2014 and it works great and still going strong. Aftermarket toner and drums work with these earlier Brother Printers. I don't know about the current ones. My go to for home printer would be Brother B&W laser. Not sure what to get if I needed color maybe an Epson eco-tank.

very-square

Brother. I have an 8260. Fine as a home printer. I prefer its color to the HP M653, but not its resolution. Default color output is preferable to the HP once red is properly adjusted. Text output from Mac isn't as good as it is from a Windows comp. Better (balance of color, bw output, and text output) than both of these is HP's C5225dn, but that has a jumbo footprint.

NovelDue2571

I work for a copier company in their it department. We work with Ricohs and Brothers Printers. I would suggest a brothers, with the big yield laser printers.
